Silk City & Ellie Goulding - New Love
Not really, no. Or...the fact the previous Silk City song was called Electricity? The very same song that is played at the start of the music video? I have zero idea what you two have to gain by convincing yourselves that Ellie morphed one of her old tracks into her new feat. She even talked about the lyrics recently: “When I wrote the song, I was thinking about a time where I broke up with someone and I felt like I had truly become myself.” Note how that’s totally different from her talking about Electricity when she said it was “about a friend who had been cheated on quite cruelly for a couple of years”. So honestly, just stop clawing at conspiracy scraps because it shares one single word.

Silk City & Ellie Goulding - New Love
Snippets of Electricity exist out there and the lyrics and mood sound nothing like New Love.

Silk City & Ellie Goulding - New Love
No? Why would she feature on someone else’s track to release her own song when its lyrical subject sounds completely different from this? “Electricity is about a friend who had been cheated on quite cruelly for a couple of years.”

Burn writing credits?
Seems unrelated but okay.

Burn writing credits?
I’m just documenting the ways that jsweetxe believes that song credits are and aren’t earned and how Burn and LMLYD compares:

Silk City & Ellie Goulding - New Love
One song did more than fine? That’s not exactly high praise. She’s not had a successful original solo single in over 5 years now. Plus in these recent months she’s been consistently outside of the top 100. Before Brightest Blue’s release she was in the 60s.

Burn writing credits?
No, Leona recorded it first and there’s zero evidence saying otherwise. It was originally intended for her on the 2012 album Glassheart, but was scrapped. www dot irishexaminer dot com/lifestyle/arid-30616819.html If Ellie wasn’t big enough 6 years ago to wrangle her name onto a Max Martin song’s credits (despite being big enough to be...the singer on that and multiple film soundtracks before, including 2014’s Divergent) then how was she big enough to get her name onto a Ryan Tedder song’s credits in 2013?

Burn writing credits?
No, originally they thought of giving it to Demi before the film came along. “ Ali and Ilya really started that song and then Max and I came in. I thought it would be great for Demi and then we had the meeting with Fifty Shades Of Grey and Max said it would work well with the scene we'd watched. So he took it, tweaked it, I wrote the lyric and there it was. Tove Lo also wrote on it. And that's the other thing, and Max has really been the leader of it, there's no ego. Even though we have to give a little bit of percentage away, none of us really cares about credits or anything like that.”

Burn writing credits?
This sounds practically the same as Burn's situation, though? She wasn't the first singer considered. She didn't change anything lyric wise or really performance wise. So I find it weird how you can be like "That's how it is" and finish off your argument with "she just sang on it" as if that isn't the polar opposite of your previous argument of "A lot of people forget that a credit is given regardless of the work done on the song (well.. it should be) vocal arrangement is a big part of crafting a song, and although it isn't physically writing words on paper, it is contributing to the song using your own talents, therefore a credit is given.".

Burn writing credits?
If this is the case, then why wouldn’t she have done the same to earn writing credits on LMLYD? Do not all covers literally consist of an artist contributing to a song using their talents, therefore also deserving of a credit? I don’t buy your logic.

Burn writing credits?
That was an illegal upload, it wasn’t there before the official release and it wasn’t even owned or created by the person who put it on YouTube. reddit dot com/r/COPYRIGHT/comments/1kv5rw/my_friend_made_a_remix_of_a_song_someone/ “My friend made a remix of a song, someone downloaded it, sold it, and reported his track for copyright infringement. Seeking advice. So basically, I asked him for his story and here it is. "Well I made a remix of Ellie Gouldings new track Burn two days after it came out. Uploaded onto youtube and sloudcloud and for a month not much happened. People enjoyed my remix and stuff. One day, this guy called "Alienator" downloaded my remix (I had have it up for free download) and uploaded onto CD Baby. CD Baby distributed the remix onto iTunes, Amazon and Spotify. It hit top10 in UK in that week on iTunes and was taken down a few days after its upload. I've contacted CD Baby and they have taken it off because of copyright of the original vocal sample (That is why I didn't sell it, only up on youtube). Now UMG claimed that my remix on youtube is copyright because Alienator "made the original remix" and just recently been taken off youtube." . Unfortunately, his video was taken down so this is some other random channel that uploaded it. We live in Australia if that helps at all. Any advice offered would be great and appreciated! Thanks a lot! :)” Can you provide any instances of her or anyone involved in the song saying anything like that? Because this is the main thing I’ve seen mentioned about its creation on BBC’s website: www dot bbc dot co dot uk/news/entertainment-arts-19276047 "It's going really well out there. Nobody expected Lights to be anywhere near number one. It's really old, I wrote it way before my first album came out in a hotel in Brighton. It's been on a really crazy journey." "I mean I love it, obviously, I wrote it. You've got to love your own songs otherwise it defeats the object, but I can't explain it."

Silk City & Ellie Goulding - New Love
“ According to court documents, the woman, who NBC is not identifying, first met Wesley in the summer of 2014, when she was 17 and he was 36. Several years later, they began trading sexually explicit images and had an intimate relationship, the documents say. She said she trusted him not to share the pictures, according to a declaration included in the documents. Last month, after other women began sharing their experiences about Wesley on Twitter, the woman said she realized that he "preyed" on people like her, the documents say. She began posting about her history with Wesley, alleging that he recorded them having sex even though she told him not to. He later hired a private investigator "to scare me into not speaking out on the disgusting details I know about him," the documents say. A Twitter account with one follower and the handle "Jeanne Yang" responded to her tweets and others with a sexually explicit video of the woman that she said she had shared only with Wesley. "This was an act of revenge porn," the woman said in the declaration, adding that she became "an emotional wreck" afterward who was "shocked, embarrassed and ashamed."” nbcnews dot com/news/us-news/temporary-restraining-order-granted-against-diplo-revenge-porn-case-n1248184 twitter dot com/saintzvi/status/1320575904754618368/video/1 twitter dot com/ThatsSoShellyy/status/1321176917253353474

Isn’t Diplo the guy that shares revenge porn and sleeps with very young, impressionable women of colour all around the world? I’m surprised she continues to associate with such a person.

Will River become an Xmas classic?
Except it’d need to be pushed twice as hard as it’d now be old enough to be affected by the same chart rules that penalised Mariah and Wham. I doubt the nation is going to stream it as much as that’d need to push it to the top unless Amazon have 20 Christmas playlists with it on all of them.

Will River become an Xmas classic?
The difference is that Santa Tell Me is available on every platform; their playlists and every digital store for sale and has naturally earned its slow burn success and placement over these 6 years through additional nostalgia and it being more accepted in the Christmas music pantheon and now has almost 200 million YouTube views in that time for its video along (almost 100 million additional views on other lyric videos on the platform, too). River, despite only being available to listen and view for free on YouTube as an option globally has only managed 2.5 million views in 9 months. Not great when it’s either that, get an Amazon Music streaming subscription or buy it (a paltry 153 sales happened the week it got #1). It wasn’t chosen to get to number one by the public, being excluded from every other digital store and music streaming platform and will forever live as a prime example of corporations influencing the chart with blatant and calculated position manipulation. You’d think if the British population cared an iota about the song it would’ve given lift to the original version of one of its other covers, as that was available for streaming and buying on every platform but nope.
-
Will River become an Xmas classic?
No, it was a gimmick song that solely got to that position due to chart rules making older classics half as effective and Amazon using their playlists weighted in her favour to play her more often than anyone else in comparison. Out of all 9 of Amazon’s Christmas playlists last year, River was in 100% of them. You had a 66% chance of hearing River as one of the first 5 songs and 100% chance of hearing it by track 11 in all of them. So essentially whenever someone asked Alexa to play a Christmas song, they were practically guaranteed to bump her to the top.
