  1. Taylor Swift perhaps?? It's possible. Lana or Rihanna seems like a strong possibility though but us talking about these two a lot won't be much of a "surprise" by the time their album makes their sudden appearance. I was literally laughing with someone writing Christina Aguilera's latest release potentially being a "featuring" compilation like Moves Like Jagger, Say Something etc. However, she can make a surprise return since Your Body did redeem her (a bit) in both the song and the video. Carly Rae Jepsen, maybe?
  2. It used to be music video channels for me when they used to have text request for videos. Now, it's either on Youtube, Spotify/Deezer or forums like Buzzjack, Digital Spy or ChartsinFrance.
  3. The Mess flopped really badly. They are also doing horrendously on iTunes as well. Not that surprising, since Popstars declined heavily in the ratings for D8. I think it dropped more than 80% between the premiere and the finale!!! (over 1 million for ep. 1 and just passing 200k for the finale). The Mess' "song" is absolutely horrendous as well. I cannot believe "Au Top" was even allowed for a release!! It sounded like a very bad rejected demo song from The Saturdays. That's the most sugar-coated verdict I can give about this "song". Plus, none of the girls have any personality or charm. So, I didn't find it surprising that Maude from Les Anges 5 has marginally beaten them in sales and that song has been out for a while now. I wonder how Oslo will do in the charts this week. There's not much hope for them either since they are free falling heavily on iTunes as well. That being said, their song "Hold Me Down" is much better than "Au Top". It sounds unique and Oslo have that special quality. It looks like the newer acts from talent shows aren't able to deliver that magic that it used to.
  4. Great sales for Christophe Maé, but can't help feeling that seems a bit low for him, even if it's only his third week. I suppose when you start huge, the retention is hard to maintain. Daft Punk is doing really well and Jenifer still in the Top 10 albums???? I am wondering if David Guetta is doing well with his compilations. Then again, this is the artist who released Nothing But The Beat 2.0, which was not only a lazy re-issue and title, but a big pile of shit also. I used to love Guetta's older materials, even 2009's One Love. Violetta must be popular in France as well, since the soundtrack entered Top 20. It is a mammoth hit in South America, Spain and Italy, where it got great ratings for Disney and later Rai Gulp (Italy's version of CBBC). Empire of The Sun did good, I guess. Granted, since the French album sales aren't that promising below Top 20, I am assuming around 2000 sales??? Bruno Mars is doing well in singles as Treasure is in Top 10 now. Blurred Lines and Get Lucky are top two again!!!! WOW!!!!! The Wanted deservedly flopped with that "Walk Like Rihanna" crap and great to see Mika doing good again. Other than that, for a sales-based chart, the longevity in a lot of these singles are impressive and long. Overall, I think album sales seems a bit better than last year, but the single sales look relatively similar.
  5. Christophe Maé can still sell albums like a beast!!!! Over 100k in a week is really amazing not only for the French market, but European market overall. I am assuming Vanessa Paradis must have gone over platinum sales number now (I hope). Jenifer held well, especially how L'amour & Moi underperformed and only sold over Gold status. I have been noticing that cover albums are doing really well in France lately, which is both interesting and odd. I think the Generation Goldman success has pretty much made it a trend, I guess. Hallyday also is selling with his live album, another trend. French albums sales overall looks better than last year. Bearing in mind, I don't think there were much cover or live albums that were released then. Studio albums from Daft Punk, Zaz and Maitre Gims are still selling like hotcakes too. Emmanuel Moire also is stabilizing. As for Beady Eyes and KT Tunstall flopping, can't say I'm surprised. Did these two artists even promote at all? Also, félicitations for your blog being a year old!!! I enjoy your commentary on the French charts. Hopefully there will be more to come!  :cheer: :cheer:
  6. The Jen vs France Gall controversy was really heated last week. Who knew that the controversy was that big? That is rather a low sales for Hallyday, especially since his last live album did well and his last studio album opened much larger. Vanessa Paradis should be able to pull a 100k either next week or the week after. She should be happy that her Paris tour dates are completely sold out and some other dates as well. I suppose Zaz and her label should be delighted with the sales now after a rather disappointing start. Emmanuel Moire has sold over 50k and reached Gold status. This is perhaps his best selling album to date. Rihanna should see album increase this week since she performed at Stade de France in Paris to a full crowd of 80,000 people!!!! She posted the photos on Instagram and made news on Charts in France about it too. Blurred Lines may be the biggest 2013 single seller, as they finally reached number 1 in France and still selling at a healthy rate. Being also number 1 in the US, they can also set for a worldwide number 1 single of 2013!!!!! Miley should also have a massive promotion in France and she can possibly sell better than Party in the USA.
  7. Vanessa Paradis dominated in downloads that week!!! Despite numerous new entries this week, she is still hanging on to the Top 10 in iTunes. I'm not too concerned about the drop because Vanessa normally does well in album sales, in the long run. She will easily sail pass platinum (100k) and if the promotion is consistent, she can make 2x platinum (200k) later this year. Even though Love Song has sold less than Divinydylle's in opening week, again, I think that is a great number - primarily because of her strong download sales.
  8. I am relieved and happy that Vanessa Paradis is number 1 in albums chart. I am also happy that she sold 48k, which makes it one of the higher debut numbers this year. She is apparently number 2 in physicals, so the download sales must have helped her a lot. I know she was consistently at the top spot on iTunes until Sunday (Daft Punk was still in pre-order status). I wonder how the physical/download breakdown will be like? The download numbers must be huge! I can only assume she has sold between 7,500 to 10,000 copies in download, which is super impressive for an opening download week in France. I also think 48k is an impressive opening week number in combined sales, considering France's album sales climate. Do you know how much Divinidydlle sold on its first week? That album sold mega huge! Love Songs is number 5 on iTunes at the moment, so it is still showing strength. That is saying a lot considering Daft Punk, Fauve and Maître Gims are on opening week battles this week. Emmanuel Moire is also doing decently well for his latest album and that is quite low for Agatha. I know some albums have good retentions and even build week-on-week sales. The most recent example being Taylor Swift. She started out with small sales but she built on that. Aah, Sebastien Patrick. Haven't heard from him in a while. His new song is pretty good, in my opinion. Great sales also.
  9. I knew SNEP was bad, but GfK? Wow. This can explain why Billboard took over the Canadian charts. I will say this again (with a new statement). Nielsen should take over. Maybe they will have some missing sales data as well, just a theory. Hell, even IFPI can take charge again. What stopped them the first time? The singles chart is just as predicted, but who knows with consistent inaccuracies? As for the Albums, Seth Gueko sold just about the typical number one album sales in a week. The big surprise is that Emmanuel Moire slipped to number two (very little drop) and had a good retention from the opening week sales. Normally, second week sales would fall between 60-70%, so that number is mega impressive on many levels. No doubt this is thanks to his physical sales as he has fallen so much on iTunes. Come to think of it, are the album sales from only physicals or are they both combined this time? NRJ must be super happy that the French are still buying compilations. With the company having dozens of TV channels (including 4Music-esque channel NRJ12) and a very successful radio station, it's a wonder why, at least for TV channels, it has not caught on in the English market yet. By the way, welcome to Digital Spy again. I gave you a shout out, but under a different name. You know what it is ;) !
  10. SNEP is really the most laziest chart company. Another week where download sales are available but not the overall charts. I think either GfK or Nielsen should take over the charts. At least they are consistent, unlike SNEP. This might explain why certifications are only awarded once in France (typically around New Years). Even IFPI Europe certifies more than that (1m Europe Sales Platinum Award)! That being said, Emmanuel Moire did really well on albums chart. Danse Avec Les Stars must have helped him a lot, since his last album didn't do well and he got dropped by his former label. After DALS success, Mercury signed him on and now he posts his highest opening week sales to date! Good for him. Beau Malheur is a good song and glad to see it re-entering and to a new peak inside Top 20. Hugh Laurie also debuted good and it looks like there is life for him after House. Taylor Swift finally gets notice in France with I Knew You Were Trouble. This might be her best chart and sales performance in singles chart to date. 22 is definitely releasing in France but apparently NRJ hasn't got the clearance to play the song just yet (which I read last week). The label really shouldn't stall single releases as it will hurt the sales when the single does get released. Having said that, Swift will definitely sell past Gold sales (50k) and might just reach Platinum (100k) by the end of the year. Get Lucky is doing amazingly.
  11. No problem. B-) I love following the French charts and was addicted to them ever since 2007. I still found it fascinating that it took them that long to integrate both physical and download sales into one singles chart. When they finally integrated in 2011, I was more excited and happy to follow them. Prior to that, I mainly followed the digital charts for the French one. Even with the fusion/merge, interesting to see how CD sales still play a major part in albums chart, whereas digital sales dominate the singles. A bit of a shame that Euro Billboard chart had to close though, not that it held much significance anyways. I follow the countries' chart more. Thanks for your commentary and info every week too :) :) Back to the charts. Lara did quite well with her album sales. She has been promoting a lot for her album release and it showed. Sure, it's nowhere near legendary numbers, but at least still quite decent nonetheless. Would be interesting how her album sales hold for the next few weeks. I remember when Mylene Farmer released Monkey Me last year, some people deemed it a "flop" despite good numbers, mainly via large week-by-week sale drops. Les Enfoires will have no trouble being in the year's Top 10. As for singles, Maude did really well and the sales are even more impressive. Even though she is on "Anges", considering how she was never on other talent reality shows made it even more amazing. I know some people compared her time in "Anges" with Myriam Abel (French Idol 3 winner), who was on for two seasons and still cannot get a hit. Robin Thicke is also doing well and I am wondering if this is his most successful single commercially. Sure, the music video "controversy" helped a bit, but he is still doing well. Rihanna is doing fabulously and amazed that The Lumineers are still in the Top 10. Won't be surprised if they get a platinum status by end of this year.
  12. Holy crap! That is amazing. Imagine how much it could have sold if it was released on Monday!!!! When was the last time a single managed to sell over 25k in a week in France (since Daft Punk's 30k is a first)? When was the last time a single sold 30k overall in a week (most likely based solely on physicals)? Also interested in seeing Maude's sales as she managed to still be in the Top 10 in iTunes. At moments like these, it is sad to see that SNEP has dropped their sales numbers for singles certifications. Then again, how many singles were likely to sell at 150k copies for a year anyways? As for albums, I wonder if SNEP will ever have a 4x platinum certification for albums (ie. 400,000 copies)? I think M. Pokora is reaching that level.
  13. Thanks for the updates every week! Really appreciate it! So, another uneventful week at the charts this week as the Top 4 remains the same. That being said, I am really pleased that Macklemore and Pink have found success this year. Next week's chart could be interesting as Maude from the reality show "Les anges de la télérealite" released a single and it is doing surprisingly well on iTunes. It made news as it debuted at the top spot on iTunes. Whether or not if it holds remain to be seen, but it is still very impressive.
  14. Carla Bruni debuted decently, despite very mixed reviews on iTunes. Kinda surprising how many of her songs managed to chart in the singles chart. Rihanna, Taylor Swift and Jenifer may see an increase in sales next week as their albums were down to 5.99 until a few days ago. Then again, download sales for albums in France is only a fraction of how much physical album sells. Looks like Macklemore, Rihanna and Bruno Mars will be the 2013 champions of singles sales at this stage, even though we are only in April. They are still selling like hotcakes and they have been in the charts for quite a while. As for Maé, like I said last week, his album sales and tours should make up for the disappointing sales with Tombé sous le charme.
  15. Those are some awful sales. The Top 10 sales seems really low, when compared with last month. Also, what is it with comeback artists having low sales numbers? Emmanuel Moire, Vanessa Paradis and now Christophe Maé. Then again, Vanessa Paradis and Christophe Maé will do extremely well when their album comes out and their tour does fantastic also. As for Emmanuel Moire, we'll just have to wait and see.
  16. SNEP has once again lowered their sales mark for singles certification. Now it's 75,000 sales for Gold, 125,000 sales for Platinum and 250,000 sales for Diamond. This came to effect from Monday (18th). Hardly surprising since only around 10-15 singles released last year got Gold and two singles managed Platinum. The album certification remains the same. Although, I can't really grasp how the level goes from 3x Platinum (300,000) to Diamond (500,000). What about 4x Platinum (400,000)? Do all 3x Platinum albums sell or get shipped enough to reach Diamond status?
  17. Man, there is no stopping the Goldman group :D ! This week should see increasing sales from many artists who performed at NRJ Music Awards (another award show known for their hot messes - this year when Keen'v performed, the mic failed on him or something. He continued on with backing track apparently). Then again, won't be too surprised if Goldman group is number 1 again. Also, The Voice debuted with huge numbers for their premiere again, which should increase Jenifer (especially) and Garou's sales. But, that's for the week after, as the show aired on Saturday.
  18. SNEP is really a mess when it comes to singles chart, really. Either GfK/Nielsen should take over or SNEP should really get their act together. Oh, I also happen to see the certification list today on SNEP site. The album certifications are mostly there, but the singles certification only has the gold list!!! I know only two songs managed platinum status of 2012 releases, but it doesn't hurt to acknowledge them.
  19. 30 125 Hide And Seek - Imogen Heap (2005) :o :o :o :o 21 118 Unfinished Sympathy - Massive Attack Feat. Elizabeth Fraser (1998) :o :o :o :o 14 129 Quicksand - La Roux (2009) - I remember them releasing this before In For The Kill and they attempted to re-release Quicksand again after Bulletproof success. 13 109 Jizz In My Pants - The Lonely Island (2009)    - Obviously from Youtube hits, I guess. 12 124 Gone Clubbin' - 'n Sync (2002)    - Not surprised that flopped lol, it reminds me of JC Chazez (one of the N'Sync members) releasing All Day Long I Dream About Sex   . Heard it entered T200 on import sales. 12 111 Suga Suga - Baby Bash (2004) - This song was huge in Australia and New Zealand. 11 110 Move Ya Body - Nina Sky (2004) - same as above, especially in New Zealand 09 109 Can't Leave 'Em Alone - Ciara Feat. 50 Cent (2007) - I think I only heard this song once. I think the song Love, Sex and Magic (with Justin Timberlake) in 2009 reboosted her career. 09 111 I Wanna Go - Britney Spears (2011) - such a shame that it didn't enter T75, let alone T40. So much potential
  20. Wow! Mon Paradis? I knew it reached Diamond status, but that was a good surprise! I remember On S'attache being mega huge at the time (despite sales in France, let alone Europe were not that great. Granted, chart companies in many countries/territories were in their first few years of having download charts - merged with singles/albums chart or not). My favourite track from the album was Mon Paradis itself. He is still selling like crazy now. I am also starting to like M. Pokora a lot more now.
  21. That is manically insane!!! If she keeps selling at this rate, she can reach a million at some point this year!!!! Of course, album sales might go down to normal (and quiet) pacing by March/April, that being the top album selling typically 15-20k but can't see this album slowing down just yet. Speaking of which, aside from Adele's 21, which other artists in recent years managed to sell 1 million albums in France?
  22. My ranking goes like this: 1. Call My Name 2. Fight For This Love 3. Under The Sun 4. The Flood 5. 3 Words 6. Promise This 7. Parachute For A Million Lights, I REALLY hope she resumes this era (after the GA Tour) and make Sexy Den A Mutha and/or Screw You as single releases.
  23. Thanks  SNEP is really slow. Better late than never, I suppose. I'm even amazed that there are still physical copies of some singles, considering SNEP stopped doing the physical charts itself. The album sales have been very impressive lately. Not only in December, but there were some albums making really impressive debuts throughout the last few months (ie. Muse, Rihanna, Johnny Hallyday and so forth). Rihanna is selling like a beast there! I really hope NOW-like compilation won't overpopulate the Top 10 albums next year, especially from NRJ. I think we had one week where six of top 10 as a compilation and some from the same companies. One week was like - NRJ Zumba Party, NRJ Summer Hits, NRJ 100000000% Hits Only.
  24. Any reasons why the French charts have been delaying for the last few weeks and having not many sales data (esp. singles sales were noticeably absent for the last two weeks) as they used to earlier this year?
  25. buzz_person posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
I was more thinking about the week after. However, if I was to go by this week, James Arthur has a shot (as much as how much I hate the song :puke2: ). As for Psy, he will virtually get outsold by Will.i.am/Britney or Bruno Mars this week. These two songs have been gaining sales.
