007 Chart Commentary - 11th March 2012
I've noticed that several Acts, who were big in the 1950's Singles Charts, have never had a UK Hit Album - in any Decade. These include Guy Mitchell, Al Martino, Rosemary Clooney, Eddie Fisher, & David Whitfield. But, an Act who was never truly huge in the 1950's Singles Charts - Slim Whitman - somehow remained popular enough to have a 6 Week No.1 Album in 1976, & a 4 Week No.1 Album in 1977. As well as a No.2 Album later in 1977. Yet, he only had one huge 1950's Hit - 'Rose Marie' - 11 Weeks at No.1 in 1955. Other than that, he only had 2 No.7 Singles, & a No.8 Single, as regards the Top 10.

Predict when Adele '21' will first drop from top 10?
'Back To Black' should really have 73 Top 10 Weeks:, 1) 60 Weeks from the 'Original' version. 2) 12 Weeks from the 'Deluxe' version 3) 1 Week when it was credited on the Double CD - 'Frank/Back To Black', which was a No.10 Hit in the W/E 6th August 2011 Chart. Which makes it the Album with the most Top 10 Weeks by a Female. (Excluding Film Soundtracks, & Stage Cast Albums) The Album with the most Top 10 Weeks, by a Male Solo Artist, are the 74 Weeks of Mike Oldfield's 'Tubular Bells'. (1973). The most by a 'Group' Album, (& by any Artist Album), are the 135 Weeks, of 'Bridge Over Troubled Water', the 1970 Simon & Garfunkel release. If you count them as a Duo, & not a Group, then the most by a Group, are the 65 Top 10 Weeks of 'Brothers In Arms' - Dire Straits. (1985).

"Classic" songs that had rubbish chart runs
Yes, the Singles from 'Rumours' were terrific, & not one had a decent UK Chart Run. I especially loved 'Go Your Own Way', the first Single off it. It only did this:, W/E 19th February 1977 - 50 - 40 - 38 - 42 W/E 28th May 2011 - Re-Entry - 62

The Top 10 Best Selling Albums of All-time
THE UK ALBUMS WITH THE MOST BPI PLATINUM AWARDS 1 Platinum Award = a Shipment, (to UK Stores), of 300,000 copies. The BPI did not start giving Awards until April 1973. That is why ‘Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’, by The Beatles, has no Awards, as it came out in 1967. 'The Dark Side Of The Moon', by Pink Floyd, (1973), should have 14 Awards. It has 9. It got the 9th on 15th April 2005. (To W/E 3rd March 2012) (The Date of the most recent Award is in the end Brackets) 1) 21 - ADELE (2011) - 15 Platinum Awards - (4,500,000) - (2nd March 2012) 2) (WHAT’S THE STORY) MORNING GLORY? - OASIS (1995) - 14 Platinum Awards - (4,200,000) - (24th September 2004) 3)=BROTHERS IN ARMS - DIRE STRAITS (1985) - 13 Platinum Awards - (3,900,000) - (31st October 1997) 3)=BAD - MICHAEL JACKSON (1987) - 13 Platinum Awards - (3,900,000) - (1st July 1992) 3)=ABBA GOLD : GREATEST HITS - ABBA (1992) - 13 Platinum Awards - (3,900,000) - (11th February 2005) 6)=THE IMMACULATE COLLECTION - MADONNA (1990) - 12 Platinum Awards - (3,600,000) - (10th January 2003) 6)=STARS - SIMPLY RED (1991) - 12 Platinum Awards - (3,600,000) - (1st June 1995) 8)=RUMOURS - FLEETWOOD MAC (1977) - 11 Platinum Awards - (3,300,000) - (8th July 2011) 8)=GREATEST HITS (ONE) - QUEEN (1981) - 11 Platinum Awards - (3,300,000) - (1st January 1992) 8)=THRILLER - MICHAEL JACKSON (1982) - 11 Platinum Awards - (3,300,000) - (1st July 1992) 11)=JAGGED LITTLE PILL - ALANIS MORISSETTE (1995) - 10 Platinum Awards - (3,000,000) - (25th October 2002) 11)=SPICE - SPICE GIRLS (1996) - 10 Platinum Awards - (3,000,000) - (1st August 1997) 11)=COME ON OVER - SHANIA TWAIN (1998) - 10 Platinum Awards - (3,000,000) - (14th April 2000) 11)=I’VE BEEN EXPECTING YOU - ROBBIE WILLIAMS (1998) - 10 Platinum Awards - (3,000,000) - (22nd October 2004) 11)=BACK TO BEDLAM - JAMES BLUNT (2005) - 10 Platinum Awards - (3,000,000) - (2nd February 2007)

The Top 10 Best Selling Albums of All-time
As regards UK Shipments, yesterday, The BPI gave Adele's '21' a 15th Platinum Award. It is now the UK's 'Most Certified Album'. However, if every huge Album got the UK Platinum Awards that it is entitled to, (for Shipments), then 'Greatest Hits', by Queen', should have about 19 or 20, 'Sgt Pepper....', by The Beatles, should have about 17, & 'Gold', by ABBA, should have 16 or 17 etc. LINK:, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-..._United_Kingdom

The Top 10 Best Selling Albums of All-time
'Dancing Queen', & 'Bohemian Rhapsody', are likely the UK's Best Selling Tracks. 'Dancing Queen' sold over 1,000,000 as a Single, 1,650,000 on 'Arrival', over a Million on 'Greatest Hits Vol.2', 700,000 on 'The Singles', almost 5 Million on 'Gold', around 900,000 to 1 Million on 'Now 23'. (1992). Plus, it has been on other ABBA Compilations - 230,000+ on 'The Definitive Collection', 160,000+ on 'Number Ones', 200,000+ on the Budget ABBA Album, 'The Collection', in the 1980's, (BPI Award given in 1990), & it has been on many Various Artist Compilations, too - including 'Now That's What I Call A Wedding', a No.4 Compilation in 2011. (And as a Song, it has also sold over 1,400,000 on the 'Mamma Mia!' Soundtrack, in 2008 to now, & 400,000+ UK Sales on the Original Cast Recording). I reckon that 'Bohemian Rhapsody', & 'Dancing Queen', are the only 2 Tracks to sell a cumulative 10 Million+ each, in the UK.

The Top 10 Best Selling Albums of All-time
Bre - 'Gold' has 449 UK Top 75 Weeks. The most by any Album.
-
The Top 10 Best Selling Albums of All-time
'Gold' is now on 647 Top 100 Weeks. (It is no use anyone going by the Chart Stats Site - it misses out 144 of its Top 100 Weeks). 'Greatest Hits', by Queen, is on 635 Top 100 Weeks. (Chart Stats misses out 139 of its Top 100 Weeks).
-
The Top 10 Best Selling Albums of All-time
If we remove 'Greatest Hits' Albums then '21' is the 6th Best Selling Studio Album, in the UK. If we make a Top 10 based on 'Hits' Albums only, then Queen, (1st - Greatest Hits (One), & 3rd - Greatest Hits II), & ABBA, (2nd - 'Gold', & 'Greatest Hits' - 7th), are the only 2 Acts, with 2 Albums, in that Top 10. 'Waterloo', 'SOS', 'Mamma Mia', & 'Fernando', are on both of those ABBA Albums, so with their Sales on those, & on Singles Disk, & on other ABBA Albums, those 4 Tracks must be the biggest selling Songs in UK Chart History. (Not to mention their Sales on Various Artists Compilations).
-
The Top 10 Best Selling Albums of All-time
So, 'Gold' is just 11,000 short of 5 Million UK Sales, & just 55,000 less than 'Sgt Pepper'. The 2 Queen Albums have around 566,000 Sales added, (each), from 'The Platinum Collection'.

The Suedehead Chart Commentary
Bre - That's what I said. I was saying that Ashanti also had 3 USA Top 10 Hits at the same time, but not as the lead Artist. That she was the 'Featured' Artist on 2 of them. Adele is the first Female Artist to achieve it entirely on her own. I don't see where what I said, & what you said, contradict each other.....I'm aware of how Billboard put it. I did not disagree with them - or you.

007 Chart Commentary - 26th Feb 2012
A) With both Gotye & Adele returning to No.1 in the same Week, it is only the 2nd time that the No.1 Single & Album have been Returns To No.1, in the same Week. The previous time was on W/E 9th January 2010, when Bad Romance, (Lady GaGa), returned to No.1 in the Singles Chart, & Sunny Side Up, by Paolo Nutini, returned to No.1 in the Album Chart. B) Somebody That I Use To Know is only the 38th No.1 Single to return to No.1, out of 1,189 No.1 Singles, since Mid November 1952. C) Adele's Album has now returned to No.1 for the 6th time. It is one of only 3 Artist Albums to go to No.1 at least 6 times. The other 2 are Talk On Corners, by The Corrs, which also went to No.1 on 6 occasions. (1998 to 1999 - 10 Weeks at No.1). The other is Bridge Over Troubled Water, by Simon & Garfunkel, which had 8 Runs at No.1, from 1970 to 1971, & 33 Weeks at No.1. D) With 21 Weeks at No.1, here in the UK, here are the Top 4 Female/Female Orientated Acts, with the Most No.1 Album Weeks, to date:, Here are the Female Acts or Acts with Female Singers with the most UK No.1 Album Weeks:, To W/E 3rd March 2012 1) ABBA - 57 No.1 Weeks - From 9 No.1 Albums (Agnetha & Frida sang lead on nearly all of their Songs) 2)=MADONNA - 29 No.1 Weeks - From 11 No.1 Albums 2)=THE CARPENTERS - 29 No.1 Weeks - From 3 No.1 Albums (Karen Carpenter sang lead on nearly all of their Songs) 4) ADELE - 22 Weeks at No.1 - From 2 No.1 Albums NOTE - Adele's 22 Weeks at No.1 means that she has just passed both Queen & Oasis, who each have 21 No.1 Album Weeks, from 9 & 8 No.1 Albums, respectively.

Suedehead2:, 1) 21 has sold more than 6 Million in the USA. I'm sure that I read that it was on about 7,300,000 USA Sales, the other day. 2) Adele is not the only Female Singer to have 3 USA Top 10 Singles at the same time. She is the first Solo Female to do it. Ashanti managed 3 at the same time, in 2002, but 2 of them were her as the 'Featured' Artist. (She managed it for 2 Weeks, I believe. I'm writing from memory - a Billboard Report, that I read yesterday). @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ A) With both Gotye & Adele returning to No.1 in the same Week, it is only the 2nd time that the No.1 Single & Album have been Returns To No.1, in the same Week. Brits
Remember, one of the biggest farces was when 'Could It Be Magic', (Take That), Won the 'Best British Single Award', in 1993. Not only did they not write it, but it was a Cover of a Barry Manilow Song, which was on his 'Barry Manilow' Album in 1973! He had a No.25 Hit with it in 1975. Donna Summer had a No.40 Hit with it in 1976. Then Take That do an up-tempo version in 1992, get to No.3 with it, & end up with The BRITS 'Best British Single' award in 1993! If that wasn't ridiculous, I don't know what is! We then had Robbie Willians getting the Award at the 2000 BRITS, for 'She's The One', which he released in 1999. It was actually a note for note copy of the World Party Song, off their 'Egyptology' Album, from 1997. I really do not think that Cover versions should be allowed in the Best Single Nominations. Only New Songs..... As to Capital FM - I don't particularly like One Direction, but they are only Boys, & it was just a mistake, when they thanked Radio 1. Capital FM is being vindictive in reacting as it has. Their entire Staff may as well be the same age as One Direction. Maybe they are! :)

Bre - The Album version was just credited to Kanye West. But, the Single version was credited to Kanye West Feat. Rihanna & Various Artists. I go by the Single/Radio credit, as that is what made the Singles Chart. However, ever since all of this 'Featuring' has been increasingly happening on Hits, it certainly confuses which Hit belongs to who. Drake is definitely not on 'All Of The Lights', no matter what any other source says. Hopefully that misconception will not end up in UK Chart Books, as he will then end up with 19 Top 75 Weeks, from a No.15 Hit, that he was not even on!

Adele's Chart Records
Rundmck - Adele's 21 No.1 Album Weeks are the most by any British Female. Easily beating the previous British Female to hold that Chart Record - Dido. Dido spent 7 Weeks at No.1 with 'No Angel', & 10 Weeks with 'Life for Rent' = 17 No.1 Album Weeks over all. Adele's 21 No.1 Album Weeks are also the 2nd most by any Solo Female - beaten only by Madonna, & her 29 Weeks. (Although Adele has 21 No.1 Weeks from 2 No.1 Albums, & Madonna got her 29 No.1 Weeks from 11 No.1 Albums). The OCC are regarding 'G.I. Blues' as a Film Soundtrack, which is why they are saying that '21',by Adele, (20 No.1 Weeks), has the most UK No.1 Weeks for a Solo Artist. The Elvis Presley Album spent 22 Weeks at No.1, in 1961.

The Suedehead Chart Commentary
fchd - Apparently, the Single version of 'All Of The Lights' - the one released to Radio, definitely credited both Kanye West & Rihanna as being on it. The Official Video for it also credited Rihanna. Here is what the last.fm Site says about the Track:, "All of the Lights” is a song from Kanye West’s fifth studio album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. The track features drop-ins from Rihanna, Alicia Keys, John Legend, The-Dream, Fergie, Kid Cudi, Elton John (on piano), Ryan Leslie, Charlie Wilson, Tony Williams and La Roux singer Elly Jackson. The song was written by Kanye West, Jeff Bhasker, Malik Jones, Warren Trotter and produced by Kanye West and Jeff Bkasker. The video edit included only Rihanna and Kid Cudi’s vocals, but Rihanna was the only credited featured artist. According to the All of the Lights Songfacts, Drake also recorded vocals for this track but was dropped from the final version. During an appearance on Shade 45’s morning show the rapper explained that despite not knowing why he was removed, he’s cool about it. Said Drake: “We make music differently. I make what comes to me and I hate changing it, whereas ‘Ye will change something 30 or 40 times to get it perfect. To each their own, and the change was to put all those people on it, and I wasn’t one of them. That’s completely OK.” @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Because of that source, & several others, I regard it as a Rihanna Hit. As does her Wikipedia Discography:, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rihanna_discography

The Suedehead Chart Commentary
SKOB - I'm going by Wikipedia as regards Rihanna being credited on 'All Of The Lights'. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_of_the_Lights Incidently, several sources also credit Drake on it. However, he wasn't on it. He was going to be on it. He may even have recorded vocals for it. But, he was not used on the final Single/Track. Even The OCC think he was on it.....
