Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit for Xmas #1?
The Military Wives Single is now the No.1 Best Selling Music 'Item' on Amazon.uk. It is outselling every Album on that Site. Never before have I seen a Single at No.1 in the Amazon Top 100. One that has got there on Pre-Orders, too. I think it is overly sentimental, but it looks like it will stroll to No.1 on Sunday 25th December - based on its Sales from Monday 19th to Saturday 24th. By the looks of things the Nirvana - and Wombles - Campaigns have no chance to have the No.1 Single on Christmas Day. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/bestsellers/music/ref=sv_m_h__3 It does not matter how many people dislike it. It is the people who do like it - and who will buy it - who will very likely get it to No.1 on Christmas Day.

Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit for Xmas #1?
THE CHRISTMAS NUMBER 1? This, (released on December 19th), Single could well be the Christmas No.1. 'Wherever You Are' - Military Wives with Gareth Malone. I cannot make my mind up, if I like it or not. I hate War, but, it is not glorifying War, it is telling Soldiers that they are missed & loved, & I see nothing wrong in that. It is the style/sound of it that I cannot get into. It is a bit too 'wet' for my taste. It makes Westlife sound like the Sex Pistols! Already, it is showing signs of being a huge Christmas Hit. It has made a massive Percentage gain, (in Pre-Sales), on the Amazon.uk Movers & Shakers List - which shows which Singles & Albums have risen the most in Sales, in the past 24 Hours. It has risen by 4200% - to be the 2nd Biggest Music Seller on Amazon! I've never seen a Single as high as No.2 in their Music Top 100 before - it is usually almost totally dominated by Albums:, MOVERS & SHAKERS:, http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/movers-and-shakers/music THE AMAZON TOP 100 - MUSIC BEST SELLERS It has jumped from No.86 to No.2! http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/bestsellers/mus...0325242-6559966 We will see what happens in the Christmas Day Chart - the plan is, (obviously), to try to get it to No.1 on Sunday 25th December, for Sales from Monday 19th to Saturday 24th.

'X-Factor' winner set to cover Damien Rice's 'Cannonball'?
'That's My Goal' was not a 'New' Song. It was just new to the Charts. It was a 2003 Westlife reject. Even they didn't want it. Let's face it - had 'That's My Goal' not been by the 'X Factor' Winner, Shayne Ward would have had a job to get it into the Top 40. It is weak as water. From December 2005:, "Sony BMG admitted to "Music Week" this week that "That's My Goal" has been hanging aroung the Sony/BMG offices for a while; "It's a song we've had for quite a while and it's a great pop song that stands up on its own merits," says Sony BMG imprint Syco's vice president Sonny Takhar, who is confident the record can make it to the top spot, but acknowledges nothing can be taken for granted". As a Pop Fan commented at the time:, "But is the world aware that this was a song that none other than Westlife rejected for a soundtrack to the Special Olympics in Ireland 2003 for sounding "too wet" !!???"

As Rihanna's Single is No.1 for a 6th Week, she has achieved the 'Double Top', - No.1 in both Charts, at the same time. It is the 3rd time that she's achieve it, & the 2nd time in 2011 - with 4 different Hits, too. (It is very rare to achieve it twice in a Calendar Year, but even more rare to achieve it via 2 different Singles, & 2 different Albums). (Adele - twice in 2011). Rihanna is the first Artist since 1979, to achieve the feat twice in a Calendar Year, with 2 different Singles & Albums. Gary Numan achieved it in 1979. However, he achieved it once as Tubeway Army, (his Group), & once as Gary Numan. Purists may say that Rihanna is the first credited Artist to achieve it since T. Regarding the Noel Gallagher's Album Positions, since it was at No.1. 1 - 2 - 4 - 8 - 16 They are the same as those of The Winner Takes it All, by ABBA, when that was falling from No.1, in 1980:, 1 - 1 - 2 - 4 - 8 - 16 The ABBA Single was at No.30, after that - which is a drop that the Noel Gallagher Album is unlikely to make. Another weird Chart coincidence happened with Amaia Montero's Cover of ABBA's Chiquitita, in Spain, between November 2010 & January 2011. Its Spanish Top 30 Positions were:, 13 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 1 - 2 - 8 - 28 Those first 2 Positions - and the last 2 - are exactly the same as ABBA's Super Trouper had, in our Top 30, between November 1980, & January 1981:, 13 - 2 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 4 - 5 - 5 - 8 - 28

Singles that have spent a year on chart
'My Way' by Frank Sinatra had 124 Chart Weeks. There were 2 in 1994:, 16/04/1994 - 45 - 58 'Release Me' by Engelbert Humpadinck, had a 57th Chart Week in 2004:, 12/06/2004 - 51 'Relax' by Frankie Goes To Hollywood, had 7 further Weeks in 1993. It was a Remix, but that is how the Single got 52 Chart Weeks in the 1980's - several Remixes were released to keep the Hit in the Charts. 02/10/1993 - 6-5-8-13-19-41-58 'Don't Stop Believin' should have 63 Chart Weeks. Its 4 Weeks from 1982 have not been added in:, 27/02/1982 - 72-62-63-71

007 Chart Commentary - 13th Nov 2011
Susan Boyle's popularity has actually nose-dived. Her first Album sold over 411,000 to enter at No.1. Her 2nd sold over 100,000 to enter at No.1. Her 3rd Album has sold less than 73,000 to enter at No.1. The further we get away from how she was 'discovered', the less people are interested in buying her Albums. I've even seen a lot of her Fans saying that her current Album is not very good value for money. It only has 10 Tracks, & the Title Track - 'Someone To Watch Over Me' - only lasts 1.17. Only part of that Song has been included - for some inexplicable reason. 1) RIHANNA (Back at No.1 in the Singles Chart) She becomes only the 2nd Solo Female to have 20, (or more), Weeks at No.1, in the Singles Chart. If one wants to be pedantic, we could say that she was not alone on 4 of her 6 No.1 Hits. Just as Madonna was with Justin Timberlake, on one of her 13 No.1's - 4 Minutes (4 Weeks - 2008). In which case, we can say that Madonna, & Rihanna are the only 2 credited Females with 20, (or more), Singles Weeks at No.1. A) MADONNA - 29 No.1 Weeks (13 No.1 Hits) (1985 - 2008) B) RIHANNA - 20 No.1 Weeks (6 No.1 Hits) (2007 - 2011) @@@ @@@ = 10 Weeks with Jay-Z, 1 Week with Jay-Z & Kanye West, 1 Week with Drake, & 4 Weeks with Calvin Harris @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ 2) SUSAN BOYLE - 3 NUMBER ONE ALBUMS With her Someone To Watch Over Me Album, entering at No.1, Susan becomes only the 2nd UK Solo Female to have as many as 3 No.1 Albums. Unchained Melody is one of Simon Cowell's favourite Songs. That's why he promoted the Robson & Jerome version, got Gareth Gates to cover it, got Il Divo to cover it, & now gets Susan Boyle to cover it. To me, that says it all, about Simon's imagination - he has none. 1) RIHANNA (Back at No.1 in the Singles Chart) She becomes only the 2nd Solo Female to have 20, (or more), Weeks at No.1, in the Singles Chart. Who has the record for longest residency in the Top 40?
Apart from having the longest Top 40 'Run' by a Female, (90 Weeks), Rihanna seems to have the 2nd longest Top 40 'Run' too - for a Female:, The 'Run' that puts her in 2nd place:, From W/E 26th May 2007 - 'Umbrella' (Feat. Jay-Z) - No.1 to W/E 3rd May 2008 - 'Don't Stop The Music' - No.37 = 50 Weeks The Singles Chart was a Top 12 from W/E 15th November 1952 to 25th September 1954, so Frankie Laine's consecutive Weeks were in the Top 12. The Chart was a Top 20 from W/E 2nd October 1954 to W/E 7th April 1956, so 51 Weeks of Bill Haley & The Comets 56 Weeks, were in the Top 30. The Chart was a Top 30 from W/E 14th April 1956 to W/E 5th March 1960, so Elvis Presley's 61 Weeks were in the Top 30 - as were Pat Boone's 71 Weeks. The Chart became a Top 50 on W/E 12th March 1960 - when the Record Retailer Chart was first used, instead of the New Musical Express Chart. The Everly Brothers had their 59 Weeks inside the Top 50 - but, I've only counted their consecutive Top 40 Weeks. 1) Frankie Laine's longest Chart Run was:, 52 Weeks (From W/E 4th April 1953 - I Believe - No.11 to W/E 27th March 1954 - Grenada - No.10 & Blowing Wild - No.12) 2) Bill Haley & The Comets longest Chart Run was:, 56 Weeks (From W/E 10th March 1956 - See You Later Alligator - No.9 to W/E 30th March 1957 - Don't Knock The Rock - No.21) 3) Elvis Presley's longest Chart Run was:, 61 Weeks (W/E 11th May 1957 - Too Much - No.13 to W/E 5th July 1958 - Wear My Ring Around Your Neck - No.28) NOTE - Elvis also had a 45 Week 'Run', in the 1950's:, 45 Weeks (From W/E 12th May 1956 - Heartbreak Hotel - No.15 to W/E 16th March 1957 - Mystery Train - No.25) 4) Pat Boone managed:, 71 Weeks (From W/E 6th July 1957 - Love Letters In The Sand - No.18 to W/E 8th November 1958 - If Dreams Came True - No.27) 5) The Everly Brothers managed:, 59 Weeks (From W/E 16th April 1960 - Cathy's Clown - No.22 to W/E 27th May 1961 - Walk Right Back/Ebony Eyes - No.32)

Who has the record for longest residency in the Top 40?
Lady GaGa's best Top 40 Run was:, 41 Weeks (From 10th January 2009 - Just Dance (Feat. Who has the record for longest residency in the Top 40?
According to my research, the Acts with the most Top 40 Weeks, in a row, are:, 1) Elvis Presley - 135 Weeks (From W/E 28th July 1960 - 'A Mess Of Blues' - No.19 to W/E 23rd February 1963 - 'Return To Sender' - No.33) 2) Cliff Richard - 125 Weeks (From W/E 9th May 1959 - 'Mean Streak' - No.14 to W/E 21st September 1961 - 'A Girl Like You' - No.32) 3) The Beatles - 102 Weeks (From W/E 1st December 1962 - 'Love Me Do' - No.32 to W/E 8th October 1964 - 'A Hard Day's Night' - No.28) THE SHADOWS However, since about 2004, the Guinness, (& Virgin), Books, & The OCC, have regarded Cliff Richard & The Shadows Hits, as also being Shadows Hits. As well as Cliff Richard & The Drifters Hits. If we do that, then The Shadows have the longest continuous Top 40 'Run'. The Shadows - 185 Weeks (From W/E 9th May 1959 - 'Mean Streak' - No.14 (Cliff Richard & The Drifters) to W/E 17th November 1962 - 'It'll Be Me' - No.35 (Cliff Richard & The Shadows)

Future UK million Sellers?
I don't mean to sound 'thick', but AcerBen, can you explain about the different 1994 to 1996 calculation methods, to me - so I can put the case to The OCC, & know what I'm talking about? Also - which method do you, (& other 'Chart Fans'), prefer?

Future UK million Sellers?
The OCC are re-looking at all UK Million Selling Singles. I asked them, (last Week), if there have been 107 or 109, & they told me that they can 'only' find 107. But, they are re-calculating them all - and they'll let us know their 'findings' later in 2011. Here is what they told me, in an E-mail:, "I believe that you are correct and Rihanna was the 107th million seller, however the data we have on million sellers is not that great, so we are redoing the work to calculate all historic million sellers. There will be a story published on this before the end of the year detailing all million selling singles." I'm asking them if we can have the Top 100 Best Selling UK Albums up-dated, too.

As Moves Like Jagger is on its 12th Top 5 Week in a row, I decided to check how many non-No.1's have spent that long, (or longer), in the Top 5. With consecutive Top 5 Weeks, I mean. There have been a few other non No.1's that have spent 12, or more Weeks, in the Top 5, but they were not consecutive. Such as this one:, The Happy Wanderer - Obernkirchen Children's Choir (1954) This spent 15 Weeks in the Top 5, but, they were split into 8 & 7 weeks, due to a No.6 Position. 5-3-2-2-2-2-2-4-6-3-4-5-4-4-4-5 Since November 1952 there have only been 4 Singles that achieved it in consecutive Weeks. The first 3 were all in the 1950's, & Moves Like Jagger is the first non-No.1 to achieve it since 1957! By an odd coincidence, last Week, The A Team, (Ed Sheeran), also became the first non-No.1 Hit, since 1957, to achieve something. That became only the 4th non-No.1 Hit, to enter the Charts in the Top 20, & to manage 20, (or more), consecutive Top 20 Weeks. The A Team's 20th Week, was at No.20. By an even bigger coincidence, Moves Like Jagger, & The A Team, are not only the only non-No.1's, since 1957, to achieve their Chart Feats, but the same 1957 Hit, was the last time those feats were managed! (Love Letters In The Sand - Pat Boone. It entered at No.18, & spent 21 consecutive Weeks in the Top 20. It also spent 12 consecutive Weeks in the Top 5). Huge albums this Christmas?
Susan Boyle is not as popular as she was in 2009 & 2010. Her 3rd Album will do no-where near as well as the first two. Westlife are also not as popular as they once were. I'd be surprised if their 'Hits' Album sells anything like the numbers of their previous biggest Albums. I don't see One Direction being able to keep up big Sales, for very long. Even if their Album reaches No.1.

No - I made a mistake. 'World's On Fire' - the May 2011 No.5 Live Album, by The Prodigy - definitely broke their Run of consecutive No.1 Albums.....(I've now indicated that their consecutive Run is over, in my earlier Post).

B) There were also none in the 1970's & 1980's. C) Had I started in November 1952, then the List would be a lot longer than 15 Hits. With a lot more 1950’s Hits qualifying to be added. This is because every Hit starts its Chart Run in the Top 20, if there is only a Top 10, Top 12, or Top 20, to Chart in.....And many big 1950’s Hits, tended to stay in the Top 10 etc. for quite a while.

Best selling albums of all time
The Total for 'ABBA Gold' is too low. By the end of 2010, it was on 4,890,000 UK Sales. (An OCC 'Contact' gave me that Total). It has sold consistently all Year - since the 4,890,000 Sale. (Low 2011 Sales, but consistent Sales).

The Suedehead Chart Commentary
As Noel Gallagher has his 9th UK No.1 Album, I decided to compile this List. (Do let me know if I've made any mistakes!). ARTISTS WHO’VE BEEN ON 9 OR MORE NUMBER 1 ALBUMS (Individual GROUP members only get counted if they’ve had had No.1 Albums outside that Group) NOTE - The Years given for the ‘Span’ of Number 1 Albums are when the Albums reached No.1 - and not necessarily the Year in which an Album was released 1) PAUL McCARTNEY - 22 (15 in The Beatles, (1963 - 2000) + 7 as Paul McCartney/Wings) 2)=JOHN LENNON - 18 (15 in The Beatles, (1963 - 2000), 1 as John Lennon & The Plastic Ono Band - (1971), 1 with Yoko Ono, (1981), & 1 Solo - 1982) 2)=GEORGE HARRISON - 18 (15 in The Beatles, (1963 - 2000), 1 Solo, (1971), 1 as George Harrison & Friends, (1972), & 1 as part of The Traveling Wilbury’s - 2007) 4) THE BEATLES - 15 (1963 - 2000) 5) ROBBIE WILLIAMS - 13 (4 in Take That, (1993 - 2010) + 9 Solo - 1998 - 2010) 6) PHIL COLLINS - 12 (6 in Genesis, (1980 - 1993) + 6 Solo - 1981 - 2010) 7)=ELVIS PRESLEY - 11 (1956 - 2007) 7)=MADONNA - 11 (10 Solo, (1985 - 2009) + 1 with the Evita OST - 1997) 9)=ROLLING STONES - 10 (1964 - 2010) (Counting Exile On Main Street - 1972 & 2010 - as ONE No.1) 9)=U2 - 10 (1983 - 2009) 11)=MICHAEL JACKSON - 9 (1983 - 2009 - Includes 1 as Michael Jackson Plus The Jackson Five) 11)=QUEEN - 9 (1975 - 1995) 11)=ABBA - 9 (1976 - 2008) (Counting the 5 Runs at No.1 of Gold’ as ONE No.1 (1992-1, 1999-3, 2008-1) 11)=RONAN KEATING - 9 (5 in Boyzone, (1999 - 2010) + 4 Solo - 2000 - 2009) 11)=NOEL GALLAGHER - 9 (8 in Oasis, (1994 - 2010) + 1 in Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds - 2011)

Libya - A "war" of hypocrisy and lies...
Guys - I hate these people as much as you do. But, they haven't finished yet - The Americans plan to use excuses to invade Syria, The Lebanon, Iran, & even Venezuela - as they hate the President there. We British follow wherever the USA leads. It is all hypocrisy. The West is friendly with a lot of these places - until the USA & NATO decide their Leaders 'have to go' - and then they come up with every excuse they can think of, why that Country has to be attacked. And - as usual - a lot of sheep-like people - with either short memories, or no knowledge of the World - fall for it all, & cheer on the attacks & invasions. The evil people, who orchestrate these Wars, will not rest until we have World War III..... We are treated like mindless Puppets, by these people. Unfortunately, a large percentage of Humanity, are quite happy to be Puppets - as they think that their Leaders can never be bad, manipulative, wrong, or just plain evil.....Sad really.....

Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit for Xmas #1?
Everyone keeps mentioning Christmas Singles that have been Hits over & over again. But, as I said in an earlier Post, this is a Christmas Song that has never been a Hit before. It is also an 'Instant Classic' - right from the string intro, to the 'Noel! Noel!' at the very end. To the Video - a Victorian Christmas - complete with snow. To the lead Singer's excellent voice. To the Choir. To the Chorus, & the Music..... It is the best Christmas Song that I've heard since 1987, ('Fairytale Of New York'), as far as I'm concerned. Having Rock Hits at No.1 at Christmas is just people trying to be clever - by thinking that you have to have the exact opposite of an 'X Factor' Ballad at No.1, for Christmas. As for the 'X Factor' Ballads, most of them are along the same lines/themes, 'They said I wouldn't make it, but look at me now!', 'I'm at the top of the World!'. 'Everyone look at me now!. 'I've made it!'. 'My dreams have all come true!'. 'This is my time - my moment!'. 'This was my journey, & now I've climbed to the top!' (Pass me the sick bag!). :puke2: MY FAVOURITE TIME OF YEAR - THE FLORIN STREET BAND (AN INSTANT CHRISTMAS CLASSIC)

Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit for Xmas #1?
It would be nice to see 'Fairytale Of New York' at No.1, too. However, it has been a Hit several times. I regard this Christmas Song as being just as good. I listened to it for the first time today. The Guy has an excellent voice. The Video is set in a Victorian Town, at Christmas. The Single has a lovely Chorus, & it has a lot of backing Singers. I've only heard it once, & it sounds like Christmas Classic, already, as far as I am concerned:, MY FAVOURITE TIME OF YEAR - THE FLORIN STREET BAND

Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit for Xmas #1?
These Anti X Factor Christmas Campaigns have now become very dull. It seems to be thought of as clever, to try to get someting that is not in the least 'Christmassy' to No.1, at Christmas. At least it would make more sense if it were an attempt to get Bing Crosby's 'White Christmas', to No.1. (Or, 'The Little Drummer Boy', by The Harry Simeone Chorale). But, it is all very silly, to try to get old Rock Songs to No.1, for Christmas. It is now just as boring as Simon Cowell's X Factor Ballads......

007 Chart Commentary
Loudjamesbond - Steps had 15 Top 10 Hits, (all consecutive), not 14. You are forgetting their 'Thank ABBA For The Music' Hit. It reached No.4, in 1999. It was credited to Steps, Tina Cousins, Cleopatra, Billie (Piper), & B*Witched. Steps have their 3rd No.1 Album, & first in 9 Years & 11 Months. it is their 8th No.1 Week, 25th Top 5 Week, & 52nd Top 10 Week. As Steps try to emulate ABBA so much, here are the same criteria for ABBA Albums. 9 No.1 Albums, 57 No.1 Weeks, 224 Top 10 Weeks, & 149 Top 5 Weeks. I look forward to seeing Steps catch up to - or over-take - ABBA. (Until The Twelth Of Never, & That's A Long, Long Time....).
