    Steps have their 3rd No.1 Album, & first in 9 Years & 11 Months. it is their 8th No.1 Week, 25th Top 5 Week, & 52nd Top 10 Week. As Steps try to emulate ABBA so much, here are the same criteria for ABBA Albums. 9 No.1 Albums, 57 No.1 Weeks, 224 Top 10 Weeks, & 149 Top 5 Weeks. I look forward to seeing Steps catch up to - or over-take - ABBA. (Until The Twelth Of Never, & That's A Long, Long Time....).
  2. I've heard that the 2011 X Factor Charity Single will be their Cover of 'Wishing On A Star', the 1978 No.3 Hit, by Rose Royce. We will see. It is just a rumour, that I heard yesterday.
  3. 'Here In My Heart' entered the Sheet Music Chart on W/E 3rd October 1952. (W/E 4th October, if you start the Singles Chart from 15th November, rather than the 14th November). It did this in the 6 Sheet Music Charts prior to the Singles Chart starting:, 7 - 3 - 2 - 2 - 1 - 1 Assuming that it would have done a similar 'Run' had the Singles Chart started on 3rd, (or 4th), October, it would have had a Top 10 Singles Chart 'Run' of:, 7 - 3 - 2 - 2 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 6 - 3 - 6 - 6 - 5 - 8 - 9 Giving it 22 Top 10 Weeks - 11 at No.1. Rather than 9 No.1 Weeks, & 16 Top 10 Weeks. 'High Noon' by Frankie Laine, was always really cheated out of a true Peak Position. It only got to be a No.7 Hit, with the Singles Chart not starting until Mid November 1952. (Which annoys me, as I like that Song, & No.7 was never a true reflection of its 1952 Sales). It reached No.2 in the Sheet Music Chart, & would have reached a similar Position in the Singles Chart, had that started a few Months earlier. Its Sheet Music Positions - prior to the Singles Chart starting:, 1st August 1952 - 9 - 6 - 4 - 4 - 3 - 4 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 5 Then the Singles Chart started - as 'High Noon's Sales were fading away - which is why it only does this in the Singles Chart:, 14th November 1952 - 7 - 7 - 11 - 11 - 9 - 12 - 12 The orginal version of the Song - by Tex Ritter - would have been a Hit, too, had the Singles Chart started earlier. 'High Noon', by Tex Ritter, entered the Sheet Music Chart on W/E August 15th 1952, but, its final Week was W/E 3rd October.   6. 'You Belong To Me' was not in the Sheet Music Chart, prior to it being in the first Singles Chart, at No.2. As a contrast, 'Here In My Heart', (Al Martino), was in the Sheet Music Chart, prior to the first Singles Chart. (Mid November 1952). I've worked out, that it would have had 11 Weeks at No.1, (not 9), had the Singles Chart started 2 Weeks earlier. The Jo Stafford Hit would still have had the same Chart Run - as it would not have been in any earlier Charts.....

  10. 'The Day Before You Came' by ABBA. It only reached No.32, in 1982. I did not like it at the time. It seemed to be a 'Funeral Music' to my ears. However, I now love it, & it has gone down as one of ABBA's very best Singles. Even an 'NME' Journalist said it should have been a UK No.1, & they were not noted for liking ABBA. Blancmange's 1984 cover of it reached No.22. It is time that ABBA's version made the UK Top 10 - which would also give ABBA a 20th UK Top 10 Hit.

    Suedehead2 - As regards the consecutive No.1 Singles, by British Acts..... The reason why the 2011 'Run' has 'only' taken 3 Months, is because only one of those No.1's spent more than a Week at No.1. (The Wanted). Anyhow, I get 11 consecutive British Artist No.1's for the 1963 Run. I don't think it is right to only count Summer Holiday once. It went to No.1 twice, & that counts as 2 No.1's by British Acts. (The Song can only count as 1 No.1 - but, it is still 2 times by a British Act - during that Run). The January to July 1963 'Run' took longer, because most of those Hits spent longer at No.1. than the 2011 No.1's. Of the 10 different Songs that were in that 1963 Run, only 2 Shadows No.1's spent just 1 Week at No.1. The rest spent 2 to 7 Weeks at No.1. In the 2011 Run, only The Wanted managed 2 Weeks - the other 10 could not hold No.1 for more than 1 Week. (We'll see if Dappy can, but I doubt it). @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ THE LATEST UK ALBUM CHART..... In the latest Album Chart, Gold by ABBA, is at No.90, & gains the Chart Record for the Most Top 100 Weeks - 634 Weeks.   12. It is my understanding that Girls Aloud will be making a 'Come Back'. As will Steps. However, neither were very big outside of the UK & Ireland. (A few Top 10 Hits in other Countries, but not many). So, neither 'Come Back' will excite Europe etc. as much as an ABBA one would. (But, ABBA will never 'Come Back' - They are still on the 'Temporary break from ABBA', that they told their Fans about in late 1982!).
  13. I have to add this Thread, as I do not want this Boy to be forgotten. Nor the other people, who have taken their lives, due to being bullied. Nor for those, who are currently being bullied, to be forgotten. Have you heard of Jamey Rodemeyer? I watched a Video of his on YouTube, on Wednesday. He sent it to YouTube in May. He was 14. I was devestated to learn that he killed himself last Sunday. (18th). He was being bullied at School. He was a Lady GaGa Fan, & his death has caused a huge stir in the USA. Bullies would not leave him alone because he was Gay. They even sent him 'Death Threats'. In May, he felt better - hence his Video. By September, he could take no more. This is why intolerance is so wrong - be it be based on Race, Sexuality, Religion, or Gender. We are all people. some of the bullies may now be prosecuted for what they did to Jamey. The Police are involved.   14. As long as an Artist is credited on a No.1 Single, then it counts as theirs. So David Bowie can have 'Under Pressure', & 'Dancing In The Streets'. Mick Jagger can have 'Dancing In The Streets', but not his 8 No.1's with the Rolling Stones, as only the Group are credited. (Queen can have 'Under Pressure', too). That's how it works. Both Rihanna & Jay-Z can have 'Umbrella'. Paul McCartney can have any No.1's where his name is credited - such as 'Ebony & Ivory'. He can't have 'Mull Of Kintyre', as that was just credited to Wings. (Stevie Wonder can have 'Ebony & Ivory', too, of course). None of the individual Beatles can have their 17 Beatles No.1's, as only the Group were credited. Had the UK Singles Chart started in June 1952, (rather than November), then Vera Lynn would certainly have had 2 No.1's that Year, with these 2 Hits - 'Auf Wiederseh'n Sweetheart', & 'The Homing Waltz' - with the 2nd one replacing the first at No.1. She'd then have had her 3rd, (& final) UK No.1, in 1954 - 'My Son, My Son'.

    We need not just look at Acts who were in the first Singles Chart. An Act, who was in the Top 10 in 1960, would gain the 'Chart Span' Record, if they had a Top 10 Single, or Album, in 2020, or 2021. (That qualifies Elvis Presley, Cliff Richard, The Shadows, & so on). Just as The Beatles would take that Chart Record, if they had a Top 10 Single or Album, in, (say), February 2023. (1963 - 2023 = a 60 Year Top 10 Chart Span. The 'Please Please Me' Single, went into the Top 10, in February 1963). So, it isn't just Acts, who were in the first Singles Chart, who can take the Chart Span Record.

    Bre - Yes, Bing Crosby, or Nat 'King' Cole, would take the 'Chart Span' Record off Doris Day, if they had a UK Top 10 Compilation, in the future. Like Doris Day, & Frankie Laine, they were both in the very first UK Singles Chart, in Mid November 1952. As was Vera Lynn, who would also re-take that Chart Record, if she ever had another Top 10 Album. Suedehead - Even if Nat 'King' Cole, or Bing Crosby, were to have a Top 10 Album with 'unreleased material', they would only gain the 'Chart Span' Record. They would not be able to take away Doris's other Chart Record - the oldest living Artist to have a Top 10 UK Album. Vera Lynn remains the oldest living Artist to have a UK No.1 Album. Neither Nat, (died February 1965), nor Bing, (died October 1977), can ever take that Chart Record, from Doris or Vera..... That applies to the 'Chart Span' Record, too. Doris has the longest one by a living Artist. As such, no dead Artist can take that from her.

    Bre - the Chart Record, that Doris now holds, is the oldest person to have a Top 10 Studio Album. Therefore, neither a Bing Crosby, nor Nat 'King' Cole Compilation, can take that Chart Record away from Doris. Vera Lynn was older than Doris, when he had a No.1 Compilation, in September 2009. She was 92.5 Years old. Doris holds the Chart Record for having a Top 10 Studio Album.
  18. I never 'got' Dido. Her Music & voice are so bland, that she makes Karen Carpenter sound like Johnny Rotten! 'No Angel' is now on 3,063,000 UK Sales. With 'Life For Rent' on over 2,850,000. If you recall, her 3rd Album - 'Safe Trip Home' - performed terribly - entering at No.2, & falling to No.18, if I recall correctly! So, you can be huge with 1 or 2 Albums, & then people seem to lose interest in your 2nd or 3rd Album. We will see what Adele can achieve with Album 3 - be it called '22' or '23'......

  20. 'Gold' by ABBA, is now on over 4,950,000 UK Sales. (Globally 28.5 Million to 29 Million) 'Sgt Pepper...', by The Beatles, has sold over 5 Million UK copies. (Globally 32 Million) 'Greatest Hits' (One), by Queen, is on over 5,700,000 UK copies. (Globally 25 Million to 27 Million) Even if you remove the percentage Sales, that the Queen Album got from 'The Platinum Collection' (About 560,000 to 566,000), it is still the UK's Best Selling Album. We will see if Adele will outsell those 3 Albums, in the UK. It will be harder for her to do so Globally. '21' has sold about 10.5 Million Globally, but over 3 Million of those are from the UK.

    I don't know who the Top 5 oldest Artists, to have a Top 10 Studio Album, in the UK, are but:, FRANK SINATRA - THE PREVIOUS OLDEST He was 77 Years & 11 Months old, when he entered at No.5, with Duets, in the W/E 6th November 1993 Chart. He was born on December 12th 1915, & he died on May 14th 1998. It was a new Studio Album, of old Songs, that he recorded with various other Artists. SHIRLEY BASSEY - THE PREVIOUS OLDEST FEMALE Shirley Bassey seems to be the previous oldest Female to have a Top 10 Studio Album. She was born on 8th January 1937, & was 70 Years & 6 Months old, when she entered, (& Peaked),at No.6, with Get The Party Started, on W/E 7th July 2007. It was not recorded in 2007, as it was Remixes of 1980's & 1990's Tracks. However, Doris Day's Album is not contemporary, either. The Tracks were recorded Decades ago. Only the spoken intro on Happy Endings, was recorded in these times. And, the rest of that Track is sung by her late Son, Terry Melcher. (Died in 2004). DORIS DAY's AGE For some reason Doris may well have knocked 2 Years off her age! Several sources say that she was really born on April 3rd 1922. On Wikipedia, it says 1924. Doris says 1924. She's likely be upset, if you said 1922. So, it is best to keep it as 1924. But, it looks like she is really 89 Years old - not 87 Years old.....(Apparently, Terry Savalas was also born in 1922, but told everyone it was 1924....). Shirley Bassey was older than that, when she had a No.6 Studio Album, in the W/E 7th July 2007 Chart. She was 70 Years & 6 Months old, when Get The Party Started reached the Top 10, in that Chart. (We can say that Barbra was very likely the previous oldest American Female, to have a Top 10 UK Studio Album.....). DORIS DAY - THE LONGEST CHART SPAN IN UK CHART HISTORY..... Incidently, Doris & Frankie Lane, were at No.8, in the very first UK Singles Chart, with Sugarbush (Mid November 1952). Frankie was also at No.7, with High Noon. He had a No.16 'Hits' Album, in June, of this Year. Giving him a Span, in the UK Charts, of 58 Years & 7 Months. He's only held that Record since June. Doris has now taken it off him. November 1952 to September 2011, gives her a UK Chart Span of 58 Years & 10 Months..... 1945 Doris Day's First USA Hit Single..... The USA Record Charts go back to the 1940's. Doris's first Hit Single there was, My Dreams Are Getting Better All The Time. It went to No.1 in April 1945, & stayed there for 7 Weeks.
  22. The OCC tell me that they realise, (now), that they made a mistake in the Press Release. '21' is not the UK's 3rd Best Selling Album, by a UK Female. It is 4th. They forgot about 'No Angel', by Dido, which is currently on 3,063,000 UK Sales. However, they expect Adele's Album to move into 2nd place, in the next Week, or so. Overtaking 'No Angel', & 'Spirit'. That will just leave 'Back To Black' ahead of it.

    Bre - I have checked, & I believe that Adele has yet another UK Chart Record. Set Fire To The Rain, does seem to have spent the most time in the Top 15, without reaching the Top 10. Since the UK Singles Chart began - November 1952 - I can only find one previous non-Top 10 Single, that has even reached 7 Top 15 Weeks. (Unless I've missed another Hit, that managed it). I'M SORRY - BRENDA LEE (1960) 49-42-20-13-16-18-13-12-15-12-13-12-16-22-27-36 = 7 Top 15 Weeks SET FIRE TO THE RAIN - ADELE (So far - 2011) 44-69-0-0-0-46-25-23-21-12-11-11-12-13-13-14-17-15 = 8 Top 15 Weeks
