  1. By my reckoning, 'Gold', by ABBA is now on around 4,800,000 to 4,840,000 UK Sales. UK ‘HITS’ ALBUMS WITH THE MOST TOP 40 WEEKS (To W/E 18th December 2010) (Any Albums that did not reach No.1, are indicated) ‘Gold’, by ABBA, re-enters the UK Top 40 this Week (No.31). It is its 615th Top 100 Week, 434th Top 75 Week - and 215th Top 40 Week. No other ‘Hits’ Album has managed 215 Top 40 Weeks. Previously, it was 1st= with ‘Greatest Hits’ - Simon & Garfunkel. Not only are ABBA the only Act with 2 Albums in this Top 10, but, the only Act, with some Songs that are on more than 1 Album in the List. 'Waterloo', 'SOS', 'Mamma Mia', & 'Fernando', are on both 'Gold', & 'Greatest Hits'. NOTE - ‘Gold’ is already the Album, (any Genre), with the most Top 40 Weeks by a Group. The previous Record Holder was, ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’, by Pink Floyd. That 1973 Album spent 211 Weeks in the Top 40 - Peaking at No.2. However, if you regard Duo’s as ‘Groups’, (I don’t), then Simon & Garfunkel still hold the Chart Record, for the Album with the Most Top 40 Weeks, for a Group. Their ‘Bridge Over Troubled’ Water’ Album, (1970), spent no less than 278 Weeks in the Top 40 1) GOLD - ABBA (1992) - 215 WEEKS 2) GREATEST HITS - SIMON & GARFUNKEL (1972) - 214 WEEKS (No.2 Hit) 3) THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY - BUDDY HOLLY (1959) - 156 WEEKS (No.2 Hit) 4) GREATEST HITS - QUEEN (1981) - 149 WEEKS 5) BEST OF THE BEACH BOYS - BEACH BOYS (1966) - 134 WEEKS (No.2 Hit) 6) GREATEST HITS - ABBA (1976) - 114 WEEKS 7) THE SINGLES 1969 - 1973 - CARPENTERS (1974) - 112 WEEKS 8) GREATEST HITS - ANDY WILLIAMS (1970) - 107 WEEKS 9) LEGEND : THE BEST OF - BOB MARLEY & THE WAILERS (1984) - 102 WEEKS 10) BEST OF THE SEEKERS - SEEKERS (1968) - 101 WEEKS 11) THE BEATLES 1967 - 1970 (BLUE ALBUM) - BEATLES (1973) - 98 WEEKS (No.2 Hit) 12) THE BEATLES 1962 - 1966 (RED ALBUM) - BEATLES (1973) - 96 WEEKS (No.3 Hit) 13) THEIR GREATEST HITS 1971 - 1975 - EAGLES (1976) - 89 WEEKS (No.2 Hit) 14) MANILOW MAGIC - BARRY MANILOW (1979) - 86 WEEKS (No.3 Hit) 15) GLEN CAMPBELL’S GREATEST HITS - GLEN CAMPBELL (1971) - 78 WEEKS (No.8 Hit) 16) IMMACULATE COLLECTION - MADONNA (1990) - 77 WEEKS 17)=THE COLLECTION - BARRY WHITE (1988) - 61 WEEKS (No.5 Hit) 17)=SIMPLY THE BEST - TINA TURNER (1991) - 61 WEEKS (No.2 Hit) 17)=CARRY ON UP THE CHARTS - BEAUTIFUL SOUTH (1994) - 61 WEEKS 20) DIANA ROSS & THE SUPREMES GREATEST HITS - DIANA ROSS & THE SUPREMES (1968) - 60 WEEKS 21)=GREATEST HITS - BOB DYLAN (1967) - 58 WEEKS (No.6 Hit) 21)=FOUR TOPS GREATEST HITS - FOUR TOPS (1968) - 58 WEEKS 21)=GREATEST HITS - EURYTHMICS (1991) - 58 WEEKS 21)=GREATEST HITS II - QUEEN (1991) - 58 WEEKS 21)=HISTORY : PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE, BOOK 1 - MICHAEL JACKSON (1995) - 58 WEEKS *** *** = I was not sure whether to include this Album or not. 3. Dave - Willow would have been the youngest Solo Female with a No.1 Hit - 10 Years & 2 Months old. Little Jimmy Osmond was 9 Years & 8 Months old, when he reached No.1, with 'Long Haired Lover From Liverpool', on W/E 23rd December 1972. However - as you point out - it now looks like the Black Eyed Peas will get their 5th No.1 Single, instead.

Yes - Simon never uses his Shows to promote 'His' Acts. Funny - I could have sworn that he was using 'Safe', by Westlife, as backing 'Music', when they showed his 'Judges House', on 'X Factor. IF he gets his own TV Music Show, of course he will use it as 'Product Placement' for every Act, that he has personal connections with. He's worth over £100 Million, & all he thinks about is making more. Still - he is so talented - all those Hits he's written, all the Record Producing he does in the Studio. All the Singing that he does. Not to mention all the Instruments that he plays. (Oh! I forgot - he does NONE of those things. He gets others to do it all for him. He just creams off his share of the cash!). If he does get his own Pop Show, & tries to use it for his own ends, every Week, then he will be even more hated in the UK Music Industry than he already is - and - believe me - he is despised. Now he's turned on Paul Weller, because Weller criticised 'X Factor'. Cowell says he has not made a decent Record in Years. (At least Weller has made some Records - Cowell just rides on other people's talents! He has none of his own. He just manipulates the naive).

IF such a Show goes ahead, Simon will 100% certainly be planning to use it to promote Acts on the SyCo Label - and any Acts that are his Mates, or connected to his Mates etc. It would just be free advertising - to get his Acts higher in the Charts. I wonder which TV Channel would be stupid enough to pay him, to Advertise his own Acts? Still - if people keep falling for it, then Simon will carry on laughing all the way to the Bank. He's already learned that he can make Millions from 'X Factor' Votes - then ignore them whenever he feels like it. (Making sure to keep the Voters cash, of course!). Simon Cowell with his own Pop TV show, would end up being a disaster for Music. But - if so many people let him get away with it, then who can blame him for manipulating them? Maybe it is their own fault, for being so naive?
  6. QUOTE(zeus555 @ Dec 8 2010, 06:37 PM) Of the 14 Westlife No.1 Singles, only 1 spent more than 2 Weeks at No.1, & only 3 more spent 2 Weeks at No.1. Bray, you said:, (Regarding the 3 No.1's with 2 Weeks):, "I assume you mean '1 week'" Bray - I was saying that Westlife had 3 No.1's that were there for 2 Weeks. That the No.1 Weeks of their 14 No.1 Singles were thus:, 1) 1 No.1 - 4 Weeks 2) 3 No.1's - 2 Weeks = 6 Weeks 3) 10 No.1's - 1 Week = 10 Weeks Total = 14 No.1's - 20 No.1 Weeks (Plus - 7 No.1 Albums - 1 No.1 Week each = 7 Weeks at No.1) Not very impressive for 14 No.1 Singles - Slade 'only' had 6 No.1, Singles, but they also spent 20 Weeks at No.1 Seanster - Yes - you got Cliff on 46 Singles Weeks, at No.1, in your List. (For some reason, Cliff is a tough one to work out. I got 44 Weeks, & another Guy, whom I know, got 42 Weeks. The 46 Weeks - that you showed - is correct).
  7. Yes, the 8 Oasis No.1's each only spent 1 Week on Top. Only 1 of U2's 7 No.1's spent more than a Week at No.1. But, both Acts have had some No.1 Albums that spent more than a Week at No.1. Of the 14 Westlife No.1 Singles, only 1 spent more than 2 Weeks at No.1, & only 3 more spent 2 Weeks at No.1. The other 10 were only No.1 for 1 Weeks. As were the 7 No.1 Albums from that Group. MY CLIFF RICHARD ERROR I gave Cliff Richard 44 Singles Weeks at No.1. It should be 46. I've corrected it now. It gives him 76 No.1 Weeks - not 74.
  8. "This gives Rihanna the distinction of having credits on three singles simultaneously in the Top 10, a feat achieved previously by only other three acts in chart history" Seanster - the source is wrong, anyhow:, Rihanna is the 6th Act to achieve it:, 1) Vera Lynn (1 Week - In the very first UK Singles Chart - W/E 15th November 1952) 2) Frankie Laine (For 8 Weeks in 1953 - 4 Top 10 Hits for 3 of those 8 Weeks) 3) Ruby Murray (For 4 Weeks in 1955) 4) The Shadows (For 1 Week in 1960) 5) John Lennon (For 5 Weeks between December 1980 & January 1981) 6) Rihanna (2010)
  9. Seanster - Well spotted, that I missed out Olivia Newton-John. I've added her in, now. She was in the List, at first - in 24th place - 18 Singles Weeks + 13 Weeks for 'Grease' = 31 No.1 Weeks. John Travolta was originally in 28th= place - 16 Singles Weeks + 13 Weeks for 'Grease' = 29 No.1 Weeks. However, I decided that it was not right to give those 2 Artists the No.1 Weeks, from 'Grease', & I moved John Travolta to 57th= place - 16 No.1 Weeks. But, I forgot to put Olivia back into the List! I've now re-added her - She's 51st= - 18 No.1 Weeks. It all gets very compilacated. If the Bee Gees get 18 No.1 Weeks from 'Saturday Night Fever', in my List, & Whitney gets 9 Weeks from 'The Bodyguard', then why can't Olivia & John have the 13 No.1 Weeks, from 'Grease'? Maybe, it is better, that none of those 3 Acts should get No.1 Weeks from Soundtrack Albums. Madonna gets 1 No.1 Week from 'Evita', (1996 - No.1 in 1997), because that Soundtrack is credited to Madonna & Various Artists. (The Bee Gees, Whitney, & John & Olivia Soundtrack Albums, are just credited as Various Artists OST Albums). Titty - Madonna is way ahead of any other SOLO Lady. Remember - ABBA had 2 Females in that Group.
  10. 6weeksatnumber7 - Leona Lewis is in 41st= place. 11. I'm always impressed by how polite, some of the Posters are here. :P
  12. They may as well go to a Farm. Put gags on about 15 Lambs. Record the silence for 4 minutes, & release it as 'The Silence Of The Lambs'. (Putting 'Ba Ba Black Sheep' on the 'B' Side, would make it all even more of a Novelty Hit! As a special treat, the Lambs can 'Baa' on that one!) :P
  13. Seanster - before 'All Things Must Pass' was given 8 of its No.1 Weeks, (1971), 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' had 41 No.1 Weeks - not 33. The 2009 'Hit Albums' Book mistakenly removed 8 Weeks from the 33 - and said it has 25 No.1 Weeks left. They forgot that the 33 Weeks was what was left, (from 41), after the 8 Weeks had already been removed! So, the Simon & Garfunkel Album had 16 Weeks at No.1 removed, rather than 8. It definitely has 33 No.1 Weeks. Add in 7 Weeks for 'Bookends', & they had 40 Weeks at No.1 in the UK Album Chart - not 32. As regards the Bee Gees, & Whitney Houston. I realise that it is 'controversial' to add 'Saturday Night Fever', to the Bee Gees Total, & 'The Bodyguard', to Whitney's Total. If you disagree, just remove 18 Weeks from the Bee Gees Total, & 9 Weeks from Whitney's Total. (The Bee Gees would no longer be in the List, & Whitney would fall to 36th= position). Suedehead - I've discussed the Cher matter with The OCC, & people who've compiled Chart Books. They say that the decision was taken - long ago - to not add Sonny & Cher's Data to Cher's. Nor Simon & Garfunkels to Paul Simons, or to Art Garfunkels. As I try to reflect UK Chart Books in my Lists, I have followed the same 'Rules'. Personally, I don't think it is fair on Cher - after all, Diana Ross has only spent 2 Weeks at No.1 in the Album Chart on her own - but Chart Books let her have 14 No.1 Album Weeks from Diana Ross & The Supremes, too! (She does not get the 2 No.1 Weeks of 'Baby Love', (1964), as they were only credited as The Supremes, at the time. But, the 1974 Re-Issue, (Top 20 Hit), was credited as Diana Ross & The Supremes, so the 1974 Hit is added to Diana's Chart Data). I hear that 'Billboard', (USA), & USA Chart Books, do count 'Saturday Night Fever' as a Bee Gees Album, & 'The Bodyguard' as a Whitney Houston Album. In the UK, they tend to be simply seen as Soundtrack Albums - credited to 'Various Artists'.

Bray - I can't find any further examples, than the ones that you have pointed out. I've looked at the Charts, 'manually', too.
  15. This 'Silence' Campaign is too stupid for words, (or lack of words!). Even if it made No.1 at Christmas, it would simply make the No.2 Hit, the No.1 Hit. Radio 1 etc. will not play a silent No.1 Single. They will simply play the No.2 Hit, as the final Single in the Top 40, (etc.), & announce what is No.1 - and that's it. (And if it were at No.2, they'd play the No.3 Hit, announce the No.2 Hit, (maybe play a few seconds of it), & then move swiftly on to the No.1 Hit). It is just pointless..... I think that Simon Cowell is dreadful, but campaigns like this are equally awful. Bruce Forsyth said, 'If Simon Cowell had 100 Love Bites, would 99 of them be self inflicted?' (No! - All 100 of them would be self inflicted!).
  16. Seanster - You have missed several Acts out. Plus, you have not added 'Living Doll', (6 No.1 Weeks), to The Shadows Total. It was by Cliff Richard & The Drifters, but, it is still a Shadows No.1, too - The Drifters being their original name. Also, you give Rod Stewart 19 Singles Chart No.1 Weeks. It is definitely 18. And Simon & Garfunkel have 40 No.1 Album Chart Weeks - not 32. 7 with 'Bookends', (in 1968), & 33 with 'Bridge Over Troubled Water'. Also, Chart Books etc. add Paul McCartney's No.1 Weeks to his Wings No.1's - giving him 34 No.1 Weeks. ALL TIME UK CHART ACTS - BY WEEKS AT NO.1 (To W/E 11th December 2010) ACT//SINGLES//ALBUMS//TOTAL 1) BEATLES - 69 + 174 = 243 2) ELVIS PRESLEY - 80 + 63 = 143 3) ABBA - 31 + 57 = 88 4) SHADOWS - 44 + 42 = 86 @@@ 5) CLIFF RICHARD - 46 + 30 = 76 6) ROLLING STONES - 18 + 45 = 63 7) MADONNA - 29 + 29 = 58 8) TAKE THAT - 28 + 24 =52 9) ELTON JOHN - 23 + 28 = 51 10) MICHAEL JACKSON - 16 + 30 = 46 11) ROD STEWART - 18 + 27 = 45 12) SIMON & GARFUNKEL - 3 + 40 = 43 13) QUEEN - 21 + 21 = 42 14) SPICE GIRLS - 22 + 18 = 40 15) ROBBIE WILLIAMS - 9 + 29 = 38 16) DAVID BOWIE - 13 + 22 = 35 17)=PAUL McCARTNEY//WINGS - 17 + 17 = 34 17)=WET WET WET - 23 + 11 = 34 17)=PHIL COLLINS - 8 + 26 = 34 20)=BEE GEES - 13 + 20 = 33 @@@ 20)=WHITNEY HOUSTON - 16 + 17 = 33 @@@ 22)=GEORGE MICHAEL - 17 + 15 = 32 22)=FRANKIE LAINE - 32 + 0 = 32 24)=POLICE - 13 + 17 = 30 24)=SIMPLY RED - 4 + 26 = 30 24)=EMINEM - 7 + 23 = 30 27)=CARPENTERS - 0 + 29 = 29 27)=OASIS - 8 + 21 = 29 29)=T. (Plus, the 6 No.1 Weeks they had with, 'Living Doll', as Cliff Richard & The Drifters). That's 28 Singles No.1 Weeks, & 21 Albums No.1 Weeks. If you remove those 49 No.1 Weeks, (& just count Shadows Weeks), they have 37 No.1 Weeks - & would drop from 4th place to 16th. I’ve added The 18 No.1 Weeks of ‘Saturday Night Fever' to The Bee Gees Total. I've added the 9 No.1 Weeks of ‘The Bodyguard' to Whitney Houston's Total, because it was No.1 in the Combined Chart, for 9 Weeks, in 1993. In other words - it was No.1 for 11 Weeks in the Compilation Chart, & for 9 of those Weeks it was the UK's Best Selling Album. The extra 9 No.1 Weeks moves Whitney from 36th= to 20th= Position. Cher - UK Chart Books do not add Sonny & Cher's Hits, to Cher's Hits. That's why she does not have the 2 No.1 Weeks of 'I Got You Babe', by Sonny & Cher, added in. (1965). If they were added in, she'd move from 34th= to 29th= Position. Diana Ross has 14 No.1 Album Weeks added in from Diana Ross & The Supremes. (4 of the 14 Weeks, were by Diana Ross & The Supremes with The Temptations). Frankie Laine is the only Act to make the Top 30 with Singles Weeks alone - 32 Weeks, & 22=, in the List. The Carpenters are the only Act to make the Top 30 with Albums Weeks alone - 29 Weeks, & 27th= in the List. Britney Spears does not make the List, because - despite 5 No.1 Singles - she's only spent 6 Weeks at No.1 in the UK. She's never had a UK No.1 Album. She's had 4 No.2 Albums.

    Thanks Vidcapper - very interesting.
  18. As Rihanna has 3 Top 10 Hits this Week, I did some research. She's only the 6th Artist to achieve it. She's also the first Female to do so, since 1955. And only the 2nd Artist to have her 3 Top 10 Hits next to each other - Frankie Laine did it in the W/E 17th October 1953 Chart. I do not have a Data Base - I study Charts, & Chart Books - for hours. So, I compile my Lists etc. manually.

22. 'Parallel Lines' is widely regarded as Blondie's best Album, & one of the greatest Pop Albums ever. The UK's 'Mail On Sunday' is giving that CD away - Free Gift - in every copy of tomorrow's, (December 5th), Issue! It will acually be inside - rather than a Token that you have to take to a Store. The 'Paper sells about 2,200,000 each Sunday, so that is how many copies of the Blondie Album are being given away. To me, it cheapens the Music. Turns it into a sort of, 'Free can of peas with every copy'. LINK:, http://smurl.name/4fv7

  24. The ITV Chart Show used to broadcast the 'Official' Top 10 on a Saturday morning. The Sales went up to Friday, (inclusive). If 'Crazy For You' was No.1 in the Chart Show Top 10, on a Saturday in 1991, it was clearly not No.1 by Midnight on the Saturday - The Clash overtook it during that day. It was always wise to look at the Chart Show Top 10 as a sort of 'Friday Mid Week Chart'. It was what happened on the Saturday, that finally decided what would be No.1 in Sunday's Top 40.
