  1. Garyfeld - The Peter Andre Single may be the only 1 in the wrong place. The OCC did not actually tell me that one was No.106 - I asked which Singles 'just under the Top 100', were closest to 1 Million. I was then given No's 101 to 105. I THEN asked:, 'Is 'Mysterious Girl' close to a Million?' I was told that it was on 950,000 Sales. It is I who have put it in 106th place - forgetting that other Singles may well be above 950,000 Sales, but not - yet - in the Top 105. If we assume that these 5 have barely increased their Sales since November 2002, then these would be from No.106 to 110, I guess - with Peter Andre in 111th place:, 106) UNDER THE MOON OF LOVE - SHOWADDYWADDY (1976) - 985,000 107) THE LION SLEEPS TONIGHT - TIGHT FIT (1982) - 978,000 108) BACHELOR BOY - CLIFF RICHARD & THE SHADOWS (1962) - 976,000 109) TELSTAR - THE TORNADOS (1962) - 967,000 110) AMAZING GRACE - ROYAL SCOTS DRAGOON GUARDS (1972) - 962,000 111) MYSTERIOUS GIRL - PETER ANDRE (1996/2004) - 950,000
  2. NUMBERS 101 TO 106 I managed to get No.1's 101 to 106 off my 'Contact' at The OCC. He tells me that the Radio 2, (August 30th), Top 100, (& 101 to 106), take in Sales to 31st July. 2,000 people have actually Downloaded the awful Jimmy Osmond Single, since 2005! Hence why it is now a Million Seller. (There are some very odd people around!). The OCC 'consulted' with Alan Jones, for the Top 106. 101) LONG HAIRED LOVER FROM LIVERPOOL - LITTLE JIMMY OSMOND (1972) - 1,000,000 102) SAILING - ROD STEWART (1975/1976) - 999,200 103) TIE A YELLOW RIBBON 'ROUND THE OLE OAK TREE - DAWN (1973) - 997,000 104) ESPECIALLY FOR YOU - KYLIE MINOGUE & JASON DONOVAN (1988) - 990,000 105) POKER FACE - LADY GAGA (2009) - 985,000 106) MYSTERIOUS GIRL - PETER ANDRE (1996/2004) - 950,000

I'm working on a massive UK Best Selling Singles of the 1970's List - using the Top 100 - (that we know the Sales of - more or less) - as a basis. I'm up to No.437, at present. I last worked on my List in June..

The Cheryl Cole 'thing' is all nonsense anyhow. The UK Press/Media - some sections - tell us that she's 'The Nation's Sweetheart'. (At no time - ever - will the vast majority of Britons accept that she is any such thing). She is too 'fragile' to take her 'X Factor' Group to an over-seas 'Judge's House' - so hers have ended up in Poole in Dorset. But, she's OK when it comes to going to LA to Record etc. Basically, the whole thing is false. Very manipulative, & taking people to be idiots. Sadly - many - fall for it. And Cheryl & Simon are laughing all the way to the Bank.....She can't even Sing! And her New Single is dreadful!

The trouble with such Polls is that some people Vote for what they'd like to happen, rather than what is most likely to happen. So, it is totally NOT going to be a Flop, & is almost certain to be a No.1. People who Vote for 'Flop', are Voting on the basis of disiking the Song and/or Cheryl Cole - rather what is most likely to happen.
  6. The main difference is that the Elvis Presley, & Michael Jackson Hits had all been Hits before. The Glee 'Singles' were 1st time Hits for the Cast of that TV Series. All were Covers, but they were still first time Hits for the Glee Cast. I'd be more impressed if the Glee Cast could get them all in the Charts again, say in 2015 or 2020. It won't happen, because Glee Chart success depends on the TV Show being popular - and it won't be in 2015, or 2020 etc. (No more so than the obsessive Fans of 'Kids From Fame - in 1982 - were still keen, on that TV Show, in 1985 or 1986). Once such TV Shows end, the Chart success - connected with them - ends too. 'Glee' is a FAD - Elvis Presley, & Michael Jackson are forever......

It will be No.1 because it is by Cheryl Cole. The actual quality is irrelevant. It looks like she will be using a lot of sound effects - distorted vocals etc. - on a lot of her Singles, to hide the fact that she does not actually have a great voice. Another reason why it will be No.1 is because her mate Simon will ensure that she gets to promote it on 'X Factor'. After all, we are all supposed to see her as 'The Nation's Sweetheart'. Umm! I'd like a National Poll on THAT one! I think it is a very mediocre Single. I bet she has about 15 to 25 Dancers with her on stage, ('X Factor'), to try to distract from the fact that she's either miming, or trying to sing 'Live' - or with Autotune! (The joke being that she has the nerve to judge other people's LIVE Singing on the Show! What a farce it all is. LOL!).

Michael Jackson has actually had 9 Hits off 1 Album on 2 occasions. I only looked at his Albums as far as 'Bad', as it never occured to me that he'd had 9 Hits off any other Albums. I now see that he had 9 Hits of 'Dangerous', as well. I've added that to my original Post. The OCC count 'The Fame Monster', (or 'The Fame Deluxe'), as being the same Album as 'The Fame'. They combine their Sales & Chart Positions. As such, any Singles off either of those Albums, will be said to be from the same Album - at least in the UK. Lady GaGa may not release any more Singles off 'The Fame'. We will see. If she does, she may fail to reach the Top 5 with that Single. I'm convinced that 'Alejandro' only got to No.7, (UK), due to her Album Sales holding it back. She will have sold even more Albums by the time another Single was lifted from it - and have even more chance of failing to have a Top 5 Hit. I realise that 'Lovegame' never even made the Top 10, but that was more down to many people not liking it much, than her Album Sales holding it back.
  9. Surprisingly few UK Female Soloists have had 3 - or more - No.1 Singles. Alexandra is only the 5th! And, after Sandie Shaw had her 3rd No.1 (1967), no UK Female Soloist had 3 No.1's until the 2000's! And - as you can see - Geri Halliwell is the only UK Female Solo Artist to have had more than 3. Graham Appleyard published what he calls 'The Real Charts' in his Blog. Believe me - we, ('Chart Fans') - have tried to find out exactly where Graham gets these Charts from - and - more especially - where the Sales Data comes from. We had a big 'Debate' with him here:, (And - are no wiser!) http://www.ukmix.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=2559647 THE 'REAL CHART No.1 SINGLES Now, Mr. Appleyard has added Lists of No.1 Singles to his Blog - allegedly, every No.1 Single in that Chart, from January 1948 to December 1949, & from January 1960 to April 2000 - he intends to add the rest of 'The Noughties' & 2010 No.1's at a later Date. So - Is this Man creating all of this in his own head? Are these Lists of No.1's - and their Weeks at No.1 - simply the Singles that he liked the most in those Years? ABBA do very well - they get 4 extra No.1's, in his Charts. But, at least those 4 Singles were Top 3 Hits. In 1985, he has 'How Soon Is Now', (The Smiths), at No.1, for 3 Weeks. It only got to No.24, in the Gallup Chart! Surely, he has chosen for that Hit to be No.1? It can't have sold enough to be No.1, in any other National Sales Chart - bar the Indie one, I guess. 15. Vibe - You have got some of your Data from the Chart Stats Site. It is notorious for missing out many of the Chart Weeks for a lot of Albums. (It misses out 144 of 'ABBA Gold's Top 100 Weeks - 14 of them in the Top 75). Your Weeks on Chart for these Albums are too low:, 1) 'Tracy Chapman' should have 189 Weeks 2) 'Jagged Little Pill' should have 172 Weeks 3) 'Come On Over' should have 138 Weeks 4) 'Ray Of Light' should have 116 Weeks

  17. The OCC tell me that Alan Jones was consulted about the Million Sellers - for his input. Alan told them that 'Mysterious Girl' is almost at 1 Million UK Sales - but, it has not quite got there - yet. It looks like Alan has given it 652,000 Sales for 1996, rather than the 754,000 that you get if you use different 'Multipliers'. The OCC also tell me that ALL Sales for the Righteous Brothers, 'Unchained Melody', Bryan Adams 1991 No.1, & Whitney's 1992 No.1, were added in - that none are missing. I was also told that the Top 100 will appear - with Sales, ('Rounded' most likely), in the 'Hit Singles' Book, in November. But, the Sales of several Hits will be lower than in the Radio 2 Top 100, as that went up to August, & the 'Hit Singles' Book, ends its Sales in early April. That will give lower Sales to, 'Sex On Fire', 'I Gotta Feeling', & 'Three Lions', to name but 3. In November 2002, 'Don't Cry For Me Argentina', by Julie Covington, (1976), was on 993,000 UK Sales. It has now sold over a Million. The OCC tell me that it was that Hit that became the 1st UK Female Solo Single to sell a UK Million. 'Hallelujah', by Alexandra Burke, sold a UK Million far, far faster, in 2008/2009, but the Julie Covington Single had reached a Million before her. So Alexandra was the 2nd UK Female Solo Act to have a UK Million Selling Single.
  18. Like some other people, I too think that it sounds like Boney M's 1979 No.3 Hit - 'It's A Holi-Holiday'. And the Boney M Hit always reminded me of the 'Popeye The Sailor Man' Song.....As well as 'Hi-Ho - It's Off To Work We Go', from the Disney Film - 'Snow White'.
  19. The OCC make different decisions, (about Hits), as the Years go by. The fellow who worked for them on the November 2002 Top 100, is no longer there, & the fellow who worked on the 2010 Top 100 has chosen to make some different decisions - like combining the Sales of 'Three Lions', from 1996, 1998, & since. It isn't that The OCC are inconsistent. It is that the Guys who worked on the 2002, & 2010 Top 100's, made a few different decisions.
  20. Jackph89 - The OCC could argue - rightly - that the 3 Band Aid No.1's don't, (mostly), have the same Artists Singing on them. 'Three Lions' may be different recordings - but they are by the same Artists. (That is a fact - whether one agrees with The OCC decision or not).
  21. Tony Blackburn said that 'Is This The Way To Amarillo', (No.53), was a 'Re-recording' of the 1971 Hit. In fact, it is 100% the same Hit as in 1971. Peter Kay only appears in the 2005 Video - and even then he only moves his lips to the Song. He does not sing a note on the actual 2005 No.1. For some reason, the 2005 Single credits both him & Tony Christie - making many people think that he Sings on it.

  24. The hype over this rather ordinary Single is already huge. According to 'The Sun', a 'Big single', usually gets 200 - 500 plays, on UK Radio, on the day that DJ's are first allowed to play it. 'Shame' got 694 plays on UK Radio, on Day 1, plus 153 further plays on UK TV. Apparently both are 'unprecedented'. Thus we have a Single that is not special at all, getting treated like it is 'Hey Jude', or 'Bohemian Rhapsody', just because of the novelty of Robbie & Gary duetting on it. The actual quality, (or lack of), of the Single has no bearing on the matter. What next? The 1st Single by Take That - since Robbie rejoined - getting hyped like it is 1975, & The Beatles had decided to reform? The thing is - The Beatles were Globally huge - Take That are only huge in the UK & Ireland. Something which the UK Media never, ever grasp.....The morons in the UK Media, fall over themselves to repeat a Myth - that Take That are Globally huge. Robbie's career is on the skids. He needed to rejoin Take That to, 'Be big again'. It bears no relation to reality - at all. But, the UK Press etc., endlessly repeat it. I cannot respect such lazy, ignorant Journalism.....

The trouble with McFly, is that they have never really expanded their Fan Base. That's why they've had several No.1's, but could not hold onto the No.1 spot for more than 1 Week with most of them. Indeed, there was usually quite a drop - from No.1 - in Week 2. I think that their new Single is better than their usual stuff. They are clearly hoping to appeal to a wider audience. However, they may also alienate many of their older Fans with their 'new sound'. We will see. The truth is that it isn't how high McFly enter the Chart that matters - it is where they are in Week 2 that reveals their real success - or lack of.....
