007 Chart Commentary
The OCC tell me that they regard the Stones No.1 as their 1972 No.1 returning there. They do not count it as their 11th No.1 - they are still on 10. Of course, they do count its Week at No.1 as additional to the Stones statistics - so they are now on 45 No.1 Album Weeks - not 44. The 3 Elvis No.1 Singles, (2005), are counted as extra No.1's for him. So, there is one Rule for No.1 Albums that go back to the Top - Decades later - and another if No.1 Singles do it. Bray, you said:, "I don't consider those 3 as unique #1s at all. Why should they be? They're the exact same song". The point is that both The OCC, & UK Chart Books etc. do regard the 2005 Elvis No.1's as New No.1's for him. I was told that this is because they have different Catalogue Numbers, then when they originally went to No.1. The 2005 CD's also had a Bonus Track - not just the original 'B' sides. The different Catalogue Numbers, & Bonus Tracks, makes them 'different releases', apparently. Meaning they are additional Elvis No.1's, as far as The OCC etc. are concerned. The problem is that you can use exactly the same arguments to say that the Stones Album should be their 11th No.1. 1) In 1972 its Catalogue Number was:, Rolling Stones COC 69100 2) The Catalogue Number of the 2010 'Deluxe' Edition is:, BOO39TD7RC 3) The Catalogue Number of the 2010 'Remastered' Edition is:, BOO39TD826 4) The 'Deluxe' Edition has an extra Disk added - 10 'New' Tracks. I suspect that it is mainly the Sales of that version that has caused it to go to No.1. So there we have it - the Stones No.1 Album fits exactly the same criteria - to be counted as a New No.1 for them - as the 2005 Elvis No.1 Singles did for him.....

007 Chart Commentary
In 2005, 3 of the 18 Re-Issued Elvis Presley No.1's returned to No.1. Chart Books, & The OCC, say they were his 19th, 20th, & 21st No.1 Singles. So - now that 'Exile On Main Street', has returned to No.1, for the Rolling Stones, surely it should be counted as their 11th No.1 Album - and not just their 7th No.1, (from 1972), going back to No.1? After all - it is not exactly the same as the 1972 No.1. It has an added Disk, with 10 extra Tracks on it. Here is how I think the 'Most UK No.1 Albums' List should look now. (Weeks AT No.1 in Brackets). 1) BEATLES - 15 (174W) 2)=ELVIS PRESLEY - 11 (63W) 2)=ROLLING STONES - 11 (45W) 2)=MADONNA - 11 (29W) 5) U2 - 10 (15W) 6)=ABBA - 9 (57W) 6)=MICHAEL JACKSON - 9 (30W) 6)=QUEEN - 9 (21W) 9)=ROBBIE WILLIAMS - 8 (28W) 9)=DAVID BOWIE - 8 (22W) 9)=LED ZEPPELIN - 8 (14W) 9)=BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN - 8 (14W) 9)=REM - 8 (13W)

The Suedehead Chart Commentary
My point is that the 3 Elvis No.1 Singles in 2005, were counted as his 19th, 20th, & 21st UK No.1 Singles - even though even their 'B' Sides were not New Music. As such - as the Stones Album has 10 added Tracks, it must surely be counted as their 11th No.1 Album? It is really an 'Enhanced' version of their 1972 No.1 Album. If it isn't their 11th No.1 Album, then Elvis cannot have the 3 2005 No.1 Singles added to his No.1 Singles Total. He has to remain on 18 No.1 Singles - just as he was before 2005 began...

Top 500 Number 2 Singles (based on chart runs)
I think that 'Holiday' by Madonna, should have its 3 Top 10 'Runs' added together - No.6 in 1984, No.2 in 1985, & No.5 in 1991. It should count as a No.2 Hit - and have the Points of its 3 Chart Runs combined. And 'Crazy For You', by Madonna, should have both its 1985 No.2 Points, & 1991 No.2 Points, combined.
-
Top 500 Number 2 Singles (based on chart runs)
'Stranger On The Shore' - Mr. Acker Bilk, should be very high in the List. It spent ages on the Chart in 1961 & 1962. As should 'Honey' - Bobby Goldsboro, which was No.2 in both 1968 & 1975. And, then there is 'Fairytale Of New York', by The Pogues featuring Kirsty MacColl. Which is the only Single to reach the Top 10 in 4 entirely different Chart Runs.

Songs which have now probably sold over a million copies
GrAmii - The OCC are up-dating the Million-Sellers List. When it is ready, they will let us see what it is. Be it on their Site, in the next 'Hit Singles' Book, (November), or both.

The Suedehead Chart Commentary
Bray - You said:, "it's the fourth #3 hit for an album containing only remixes (MJ doesn't count as it had new songs)". No - it is the 3rd top 3 Remix Album - if we leave out the Michael Jackson one. 'Love And Dancing' - League Unlimited Orchestra, (Human League) - No.3 (1982) 'Love' - The Beatles - No.3 (2006) 'The Remix' - Lady GaGa - No.3 (So far) (2010) Notice that hers is the first one not to have the word 'Love' in the Title!
-
The Suedehead Chart Commentary
Bray - By entering at No.3, 'Remix', by Lady GaGa, is the highest Charting 'Remix' Album by a Solo Female. In 1981, 'Love & Dancing', by the League Unlimited Orchestra, reached No.3. It was really a Human League Album. It had 7 Remixes off 'Dare' on it, plus, a Remix of 'Hard Times' - which had previously been the 'B' Side of 'Love Action (I Believe In Love)', in 1981. ('Hard Times' was not on 'Dare'). In 1997, 'Blood On The Dance Floor - History In The Mix', by Michael Jackson, was No.1 for 2 Weeks. That had 8 Remixes of Songs from 'HIStory', (1995), on it - plus 5 New Songs. The 'Love' Album, was a UK No.3 Hit in 2006, & that consisted of 26 Tracks that were Remixes of Beatles songs. So - Lady GaGa is the first person, to reach the Top 3, with a Remix Album, that is soley made up of Remixed Tracks from her previous Album. (Or Albums - if you count 'The Fame' & 'The Fame Monster' as 2 Albums).

KEANE - ONLY THE 5TH ACT TO..... By going to No.1 with 'Night Train', Keane are only the 5th Act - and 3rd Group - to reach No.1 here with their first 4 Albums. 'Night Train' is actually an 8 Track EP. The only Acts to reach No.1 with their first 4 - or more - Albums are:, 1) BEATLES - First 7 at No.1 (1963 - 1966) 2) ROBBIE WILLIAMS - First 5 at No.1 (1998 - 2002) ('Life Thru A Lens' was released in 1997, but it did not reach No.1 until 1998). (He'd previously had 3 No.1 Albums in Take That. (1993 - 1996). He left Take That in 1995, but sang on most of the Tracks on their 1996 No.1 'Greatest Hits' Album). 3) GEORGE MICHAEL - First 4 at No.1 (1987 - 1998) (He'd previously had 2 No.1 Albums in Wham!) (1983 - 1984) 4) BOYZONE - First 4 at No.1 (1995 - 1999) 5) KEANE - First 4 at No.1 (2004 - 2010) (I was surprised to see that they formed in 1995, but did not release their Debut Album - 'Hopes & Fears' - until 2004 ). NOTE - COLDPLAY - They'd have achieved it, (4 No.1's - 2000 - 2008), had not a 'Live 2003' Album been released, in 2008, & reached No.46. Its No.46 Peak came between their 3rd & 4th No.1 Albums. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ LADY GAGA - THE 1st SOLO FEMALE TO HAVE 2 UK TOP 5 ALBUMS AT THE SAME TIME By having the No.3, ('Remix'), & No.4, ('The Fame'), Albums this Week, Lady GaGa becomes the first Female Solo Act to manage 2 simultaneous Top 5 Albums, in the UK. LADY GAGA - ONLY THE 6th SOLO FEMALE ACT TO..... She's also only the 6th Female Solo Act with 2 simultaneous UK Top 10 Albums. 1) MADONNA (1985) In 1985 she was in the Top 10, with 2 simultaneous Albums, from W/E 17th August to W/E 19th October. (10 Weeks/Charts). They were, 'Like A Virgin' & 'The First Album' - formerly called 'Madonna'. During the 10 Weeks, they did this in the Top 10:, 'Like a Virgin' - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 1 - 2 - 2 - 1 - 3 'The First Album' - 10 - 6 - 6 - 9 - 8 - 8 - 9 - 7 - 8 - 9 2) SHANIA TWAIN (2000) She had 2 Top 10 Albums, from W/E 18th March 2000 to W/E 15th April 2000. During that 5 Week/Chart period, they did this in the Top 10:, 'Come On Over' - 8 - 8 - 6 - 5 - 8 'The Woman In Me' - 9 - 10 - 7 - 9 - 9 Then she managed it for a 6th Week - also in 2000. W/E 29th April 2000 'Come On Over' - 7 'The Woman In Me' - 10 3) DIDO (2004) She achieved it for 3 Weeks - W/E 10th January 2004 to W/E 24th January 2004 'Life For Rent' - 2 - 1 - 1 'No Angel' - 9 - 8 - 9 4) AMY WINEHOUSE (2007) She managed it for 1 Week - W/E 29th December 2007 'Back To Black Deluxe' - 9 'Back To Black' - 10 NOTE - The OCC has changed its Chart Rules since then, & they'd now combine the 2 Albums in the Chart - giving it higher Positions - but only 1 Chart Entry. So, Amy Winehouse would not have achieved it under current Chart Rules. 5) P!NK (2009) She achieved it in 2009 - but, one of her 2 Top 10 Albums was a 4 CD Box Set, of her 4 Albums prior to 'Funhouse'. So - in a way - she had 5 Albums in the Top 10, at the same time. However, as 4 were in a Box Set, it only counts as 1 Top 10 Entry. (At the time, some P!nk Fans wanted her to be credited with 5 Top 10 Albums that Week - meaning that 4 of them would have been shown as ALL being at No.7! ) This post has been edited by zeus555: Today, 09:17 PM

The OCC told me, (a few Months ago), that 'Don't Cry For Me Argentina' - Julie Covington - has also now reached a UK Million Sale.
-
Songs which have now probably sold over a million copies
I know that 'Dancing Queen', has now sold over a Million UK copies. It sold 935,000 in 1976 + 1992, & has now had 99,000 UK Downloads added in. It is on 1,034,000 Sales. (Some say 1,039,000 - saying it sold 940,000 before the 99,000 Downloads were added). 'Sugar Sugar', by The Archies, has also now sold a UK Million. It sold about 979,000 between 1969 & 1970, & it sold enough on Downloads to reach 1 Million UK Sales this Year - 2010. It did it a few Months ago. The OCC will reveal the up-dated UK Million Sellers before too long.

The OCC combine the Sales of 'The Fame' & 'The Fame Monster', & regard them as the same Album. This makes Lady GaGa only the 2nd Solo Female, to have as many as 4 'Runs' at No.1, with the same Album. SOLO FEMALE ALBUMS - 3 (OR MORE) ‘RUNS’ AT NO.1 (The Year, (in Brackets), is the Year of release - which is not necessarily the Year in which an Album first Charted) (Total Weeks AT No.1 in Brackets) ‘LIFE FOR RENT’ - DIDO (2003) - FOUR ‘Runs’ = 2003 - 2004 (10) ‘THE FAME’ - LADY GAGA (2008) - FOUR ‘Runs’ = 2009 - 2010 (7) *** ‘JAGGED LITTLE PILL’ - ALANIS MORISSETTE (1995) - THREE ‘Runs’ = 1996 (11) ‘LET’S TALK ABOUT LOVE’ - CELINE DION (1997) - THREE ‘Runs’ = 1997 - 1998 (5) ‘COME ON OVER’ - SHANIA TWAIN (1998) - THREE ‘Runs’ = 1999 (11) ‘BACK TO BLACK’ - AMY WINEHOUSE (2006) - THREE ‘Runs’ = 2007 - 2008 (4) ### *** = ‘Runs’, 2, 3, & 4, include the Sales of the extended Edition of ‘The Fame’ - ‘The Fame Monster’ ### = ‘Run’ 3 is the ‘Back To Black Deluxe Edition’

Check out the new OCC page
The OCC tell me that they are still working on the New Site. That's why Sales figures are changing, & why errors are being corrected. They hope to be able to show the Top 100's again. They seem to want to do so. Also, they hope to show Data from the 1950's Singles & Albums Charts again. They are responding to the 'Feed Back' that they are getting. They aren't going to ignore us. So, our views - about their Site - do matter to them.

Check out the new OCC page
I've just realised - The OCC Site no longer goes back as far as November 1952, with its No.1 Singles. Or back as far as July 1956 with its No.1 Albums. It only goes back as far as the first 'Record Retailer' Charts - March 1960. Top 50 Most Played Artists Of The Decade - Madonna #1
Here is an Article from today's 'The Sun', about the UK's Decade 'Most Played' List. As happens often, their 'Journalists' are so stupid, that they make an illogical mistake in the Article. They say that The Beatles were previously thought to be the most played BAND in the UK, but that this is now shown not to be the case - because Madonna is. Since when has Madonna been a Band?! The Beatles are STILL the most played Band in the UK. How many 'Journalists' get their jobs has always been a mystery to me. How they keep them is an even bigger one..... THE ARTICLE:, Madge beats Beatles to No1 By RYAN SABEY and VIRGINIA WHEELER MADONNA is the most-played artist of the past decade - ahead of THE BEATLES, it was revealed last night. The Queen of Pop topped a list of acts based on airplay and public performances in the UK between 2000 and 2009. The Fab Four were previously accepted to have been the most-played band in the country. But they are now second to Madge, 51 - whose hits include Material Girl and Ray Of Light. ROBBIE WILLIAMS came third in a top five dominated by Brits, ahead of QUEEN and TAKE THAT. The list was drawn up by royalties body PPL after counting radio and TV airplay - along with songs being played in pubs, clubs and shops. The most modern act in the top ten was girl group SUGABABES. PPL chairman Fran Nevrkla said: "It is an accurate and democratic reflection of the most popular artists of the last decade." End of Article.

VH1 - Top 40 Best Selling UK Singles Acts (Up-Dated List)
Regarding the up-dated Top 40 Singles Acts Chart - The OCC tell me that:, 1) They now realise that they'd missed Take That out - who should be about No.20, or No.21, in the List. (Over 7,000,000 UK Singles Sales). 2) ABBA - They ignored most of ABBA's Download Sales. Only around 32,000 - 33,000 Downloads of 'Mamma Mia' were added in. It is the only ABBA Download to reach the Top 75, since 2004. (No.56 in 2008). The vast bulk of ABBA's 2005 - 2009 Downloads were not added to ABBA's Total. 3) QUEEN - However - clearly - ALL of Queen's Post 2004 Downloads have been added in. Otherwise, you would not see their Total rise by a massive 1,565,000. Since 2004, they've only had 5 'Singles' in the Top 75, & they Peaked at:, No.31, No.47, No.33, No.63, & No.32. Even if we give each one 50,000 Sales, (whilst they were in the Top 75), you only get 250,000. And it is very unlikely that they all sold as many as 50,000. (Whilst in the Top 75). The OCC have clearly added every Queen Download in - whether they were in the Top 75 or not. Odd, that ABBA were not treated the same.....

And Boyzone become only the 8th Act to have 3, (or more), No.1 Albums that returned to No.1. Only 3 Acts have had 4 such No.1 Albums:, Elvis Presley, (1957, 1961, & 2 in 1962), The Beatles, (1965, 1967-1968, & 2 in 1969), & ABBA, (1976, 1977, 1980, & 1999-2008). The 5 Acts who've had 3 No.1 Albums that returned to the Top are:, Rod Stewart, (1971, 1974, & 1975) The Carpenters, (1974, 1975, & 1990) Simply Red, (1989, 1991-1992, & 1998) Robbie Williams, (1999, 2003, & 2004) *** Boyzone, (1998, 1999, & 2010) *** = Robbie Williams has managed 4 such Albums, if we count 'Everything Changes', (Take That), in 1994. Paul McCartney has had 5 such No.1's, if you add the 4 in The Beatles, to 'Venus & Mars', (Wings), in 1975. (He's the only Act to appear on 5 Albums, that returned to No.1). Paul Simon has had 3 - if you add his 2 with Simon & Garfunkel, (1968, & to 1970-1971), to 'Graceland', (1987). And, this one does not count, but Marni Nixon Sang on 3 Film Soundtrack Albums that returned to No.1:, 'The King & I' (1956 - 1958 - returned to No.1 10 times) 'West Side Story' (1962-1963 - returned to No.1 6 times) 'The Sound Of Music' (1965 - 1968 - returned to No.1 11 times)

The Beatles have 0 singles sales since 2004, which is obviously correct as they haven't been available digitally, and haven't released any new physicals. Michael Jackson shows as +2,719k since 2004. Given that he sold 2,798k in 2009 alone, there is either an error in the latest list, or his pre-2004 sales have been downgraded. Abba shows as +36k since 2004. Given that they sold 289k in 2008 alone, there is either an error here, or their pre-2004 sales have also been downgraded. Boney M's sales have been reduced since 2004. Given that "Mary's Boy Child / Oh My Lord" has sold at least 35k over that period, their other singles must have been reduced by over 50k. 4 artists in the Top 40, who weren't in the Top 50 in 2004:- Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, Prince and Eminem. Prince is a surprise, because it suggests that he has sold over 1,100k in the last 6 years. This seems implausible, suggesting his pre-2004 sales have been recalculated upwards. 2 artists climb into the Top 40 - U2 [from 47] and Westlife [44]. 6 artists drop out of the Top 40 - Adam & Ants [34], the Jam [35], Frankie Goes To Hollywood [36], Pet Shop Boys [38], Phil Collins [39] and Wet Wet Wet [40]. There is one obvious error - the complete omission of Take That. Music Week put them on 6,250k on 1/12/08. They sold 834k in 2009. So they should be around 7,250k now, and about number 20 on the list, up from 52 in 2004. My observations:, The OCC simply may not have added Downloads in for some Acts. They told me that 'Waterloo' had sold over 11,000 in 2004, (No.20), & that ABBA's 289,000 Download Sales in 2008, were really 300,000 - as they'd missed some Sales out. So, that's 311,000 Sales since 2004 - and that is not even counting any Download Sales from 2005, 2006, 2007, & 2009. Despite it all, they are shown with only 36,000 extra Sales since 2004..... Or - The OCC may simply have removed about 500,000 Sales from ABBA's 2004 Total, & then added in the 2005 to 2009 Downloads. They are not infallible - as someone has pointed out - Take That ought to be in the List, (No.20), & The OCC has not put them in it.

Songs which have now probably sold over a million copies
'Don't Cry For Me Argentina', by Julie Covington, has definitely sold over a UK Million now. It was on 993,000 7 inch Vinyl Sales. With Downloads added in, it has sold over the Million. She joins Alexandra Burke, as the only 2 British Women to have UK Million Selling Singles. However - how many has 'Bleeding Love', by Leona Lewis sold - so far, in the UK? What about 'A Moment Like This', also by Leona?

UK Million Selling Singles Before 1994?
'Don't Cry For Me Argentina', by Julie Covington, has definitely sold over a UK Million now. It was on 993,000 7 inch Vinyl Sales. With Downloads added in, it has sold over the Million. She joins Alexandra Burke, as the only 2 British Women to have UK Million Selling Singles. However - how many has 'Bleeding Love', by Leona Lewis sold - so far, in the UK? What about 'A Moment Like This', also by Leona? I've added 'Night Fever', by the Bee Gees - and its 760,000 Sales, to the above List.
