And - believe it or not - JLS are the first UK Black Group to have more than 1 No.1 Single! It has taken 1112 No.1 Singles, & 57 Years of Singles Charts for it to happen. Until now, the closest that it came to happening, was in 1976 - Real Thing. Their 'You To Me Are Everything', was a No.1 that Year, & 'Can't Get By Without You', was a No.2 Hit, later in 1976.

007 Chart Commentary
The UK Media are saying that Cheryl is only the 12th Woman to Top both UK Charts at the same time. This is wrong. She's the 37th. (Alan Jones has made the same error, in 'Music Week' - saying she's only the 12th Woman to achieve it). Barbra Streisand was the 1st Solo Female to achieve it - W/E November 8th 1980. However, the 2 Women in ABBA had already managed it 3 times before her - and a 4th time, just after her. (W/E 29th November 1980 to W/E 13th December 1980). It was managed by Females in GROUPS, numerous times:, ABBA - 1976, 1977, 1978, & 1980 (2 Females) BLONDIE - 1979 (1 Female) THE PRETENDERS - 1980 (1 Female) HUMAN LEAGUE - 1982 (2 Females) CULTURE CLUB - 1983 (1 Female) T'PAU - 1987 (1 Female) SOUL II SOUL - 1989 (1 Female) SPICE GIRLS - 1996 & 1997 (5 Females) HEAR'SAY - 2001 (3 Females) ATOMIC KITTEN - 2002 (3 Females) EVANESCENCE - 2003 (1 Female) SUGABABES - 2005 & 2007 (3 Females) SCISSOR SISTERS - 2006 (1 Female) That's 25 Females, in Groups, who've achieved it, plus 12 Solo Females = 37 Female Singers, who've 'Topped' both Charts, in the same Week. Cheryl is the 12th SOLO Female to manage it. It is misleading to say, '12th Female to achieve it' - or '12th Woman to achieve it'..... Cheryl Cole is the 12th Solo Female to have Topped both the UK Singles & Albums Charts, in the same Week. Although the Album Chart started on W/E 28th July 1956, no Solo Female Topped both Charts until W/E 8th November 1980 - Barbra Streisand. CHERYL COLE - 12th SOLO FEMALE DOUBLE CHART TOPPER She has become only the 12th Solo Female to Top BOTH the UK Singles & Albums Chart at the same time. Plus, only the 4th British Solo Female to manage it - Leona Lewis, Duffy, Lily Allen, & Cheryl Cole. 2009 - AND - 2009 becomes the first Year - since the Album Chart began - that more than 2 Solo Females have achieved it - Lily Allen, Lady GaGa, & Cheryl Cole. Barbra Streisand - 1980 Madonna - 1986, 1989, 2005, & 2008 Mariah Carey - 1994 Celine Dion - 1995 Kylie Minogue - 2001 Beyonce - 2003 Rihanna - 2007 Leona Lewis - 2007 Duffy - 2008 Lily Allen - 2009 Lady GaGa - 2009 Cheryl Cole - 2009 NOTE - Some Sites/News Sources are saying that Alexandra Burke achieved it too. She didn't. 'Bad Boys' was No.1 - for 1 Week - on W/E 24th October. Her Album - 'Overcome' - was No.1 - for 1 Week - on W/E 31st October.

007:, 1) Westlife have not had 15 No.1 Singles - they've had 14. And, their 20 weeks at No.1, (Singles Chart), are only good enough for 13th= place, in the 'Most Singles Weeks At No.1' List. Equal 13th place with Slade - who only needed 6 No.1's to get their 20 No.1 Weeks. Add in Westlife's 7 Weeks at No.1 in the Album Chart, & their 27 Weeks at No.1 are only the 27th 'Most UK No.1 Weeks'. So, they may be the Act with the 3rd= Most UK No.1 Singles, (Equal with Cliff Richard, & only behind Elvis Presley & The Beatles), but, their achievements with those 14 No.1's have not been so great. (Hardly any of them were No.1 outside the UK & Ireland, for example). And they have yet to keep an Album at No.1 for more than 1 Week, in the UK..... 2) The Lady Gaga 'Re-issue' is a lot more than 1 or 2 added Tracks. It contains all of 'The Fame' Album - but 2 New Songs are added to that. Plus, there is a 2nd CD with 8 New Songs on it. So, the 'Re-issue' is really 'The Fame' with TEN added New Songs. I'm an ABBA Fan, & I'd haver loved ABBA to have done such 'Re-issues. when they were together. You were lucky to get 10 Songs on most ABBA Albums - & 'The Album', & 'The Visitors' only had 9 Songs each.....Lady GaGa seems to be very prolific. 3) Cheryl Cole is the 12th Solo Female to have Topped both the UK Singles & Albums Charts, in the same Week. Although the Album Chart started on W/E 28th July 1956, no Solo Female Topped both Charts until W/E 8th November 1980 - Barbra Streisand. Barbra Streisand - 1980 Madonna - 1986, 1989, 2005, & 2008 *** Mariah Carey - 1994 Celine Dion - 1995 Kylie Minogue - 2001 Beyonce - 2003 Rihanna - 2007 Leona Lewis - 2007 Duffy - 2008 Lily Allen - 2009 Lady GaGa - 2009 Cheryl Cole - 2009 *** = The only other Female Singers to manage it as many as 4 times, are Agnetha & Frida, as part of ABBA. That Group managed to Top both UK Charts - at the same time - in 1976, 1977, 1978, & 1980.

Longest Top 10 stays in the 00s
We are in a similar situtation to the early 1950's. Then Top 3 Singles often used to stay in the Top 10 for ages - without getting close to even 600,000 Sales, most of the time. It is the same now. Downloads enable Take That, (for example), to hang around the 'Singles' Chart for longer, without Selling as many as their biggest 1990's Hits did. So, if we were to use Points, to work out the All Time UK Singles, you'd find that many 1950's Hits were way up in the List, as well as many Hits from about 2005 to 2009. In neither case is it anything to do with those Hits outselling Hits from other Decades. Overall they are not outselling other Decades Hits.....

UK million-selling singles
The TRUTH is that many 'X Factor' Winner No.1's would have got there no matter what Song was Covered or written. Most of them will never, ever go down as 'Classics', in the Decades to come. Because they were rather ordinary or weak. Like 'That's My Goal' - a Westlife Reject! Even they felt it was naff! It sold over a Million because Shayne Ward had Won the 'X Factor' - had he tried to sell even 100,000 of it - on pure merit - it would have heavily struggled to get there....

Top 20 Singles Acts: 1950's - 1980's Decades?
These Decade Lists are based on the UK Top 10 Singles Chart. They are courtesy of a Poster called Taizu, at CHC Media Forums. Only a few Acts have made the Top 20 List for more than one Decade. And, only Elvis Presley, (1950's - 1970's), & Madonna, (1980's - 2000's), have been Listed for as many as 3 Decades. Notice that in the 1990's & 2000's, the Decade's No.1 Act Scored far less Points, than those from the 1950's to the 1980's. Here is how Taizu introduces his Lists:, This is based on the top 10 singles charts, with one point for each week at number ten, and ten points for each week at number one: 1950s: 20 Eddie Calvert 289 19 Winifred Atwell 305 18 Connie Francis 305 17 Ruby Murray 306 16 Frank Sinatra 340 15 Everly Brothers 343 14 Eddie Fisher 347 13 Nat King Cole 352 12 Dean Martin 353 11 Bill Haley & his Comets 369 10 Mantovani 402 9 Perry Como 419 8 Doris Day 452 7 Jonnie Ray 456 6 Lonnie Donegan 497 5 Pat Boone 504 4 David Whitfield 532 3 Guy Mitchell 681 2 Elvis Presley 861 1 Frankie Laine 1081 1960s: 20 Billy Fury 260 19 Seekers 265 18 Beach Boys 267 17 Del Shannon 276 16 Gerry & the Pacemakers 277 15 Helen Shapiro 278 14 Kinks 291 13 Adam Faith 307 12 Manfred Mann 333 11 Tom Jones 356 10 Frank Ifield 366 9 Hollies 372 8 Everly Brothers 373 7 Engelbert Humperdinck 408 6 Roy Orbison 414 5 Rolling Stones 536 4 Shadows 562 3 Elvis Presley 1022 2 Cliff Richard 1162 1 Beatles 1386 1970s: 20 10CC 255 19 John Travolta 257 18 Bee Gees 260 17 Mud 261 16 David Bowie 271 15 Bay City Rollers 279 14 Wings 282 13 Queen 285 12 Donny Osmond 292 11 New Seekers 303 10 Olivia Newton-John 313 9 Elvis Presley 317 8 Boney M 329 7 Sweet 332 6 Showaddywaddy 345 5 Gary Glitter 413 4 Rod Stewart 480 3 T.Rex 499 2 Slade 502 1 ABBA 666 (!) 1980s: 20 Jam 210 19 George Michael 221 18 Jason Donovan 234 17 UB40 238 16 Adam & the Ants 246 15 Duran Duran 272 14 Paul McCartney 274 13 Culture Club 287 12 Pet Shop Boys 287 11 Stevie Wonder 296 10 Madness 300 9 Cliff Richard 301 8 David Bowie 313 7 Frankie Goes To Hollywood 345 6 Phil Collins 347 5 Michael Jackson 349 4 Kylie Minogue 366 3 Wham! 370 2 Shakin' Stevens 378 1 Madonna 668 1990s: 20 KLF 185 19 All Saints 185 18 Prodigy 203 17 Oasis 225 16 East 17 232 15 2Unlimited 236 14 Snap! 245 13 Cher 247 12 Mariah Carey 254 11 Elton John 254 10 Whitney Houston 261 9 George Michael 277 8 Wet Wet Wet 295 7 Celine Dion 366 6 Bryan Adams 373 5 Spice Girls 377 4 Michael Jackson 382 3 Madonna 394 2 Take That 428 1 Boyzone 445 2000-2008: 20 Atomic Kitten 219 19 Pink 224 18 Take That 224 17 S Club 7 232 16 Kylie Minogue 235 15 Black-Eyed Peas 238 14 Akon 249 13 Robbie Williams 260 12 Nelly 287 11 Sugababes 297 10 Shakira 298 9 Madonna 301 8 Beyonce 305 7 Britney Spears 327 6 Timbaland 350 5 Girls Aloud 352 4 Justin Timberlake 361 3 Eminem 383 2 Westlife 419 1 Rihanna 447

UK million-selling singles
Some 'X Factor' connected Singles & Albums sell better than others. But, few of them would really get to No.1, if it wasn't for the hype & publicity that the Show gives them. Leona Lewis released the best ever 'X Factor' connected Single, with 'Bleeding Love', in my view. But, the fact that she'd Won the Show, a Year earlier, gave that Single an extra boost. (It didn't work for some other 'X Factor' Winners - they, & their Singles, just weren't good enough, to keep giving them big Hits). Kylie was already famous when she had her first UK Hits in 1988, but by the late 1990's she'd not had a truly huge Hit for a while. 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head' got to No.1 on merit. It was her best Single in ages. People realised that, & it sold a UK Million. (Her resurgence really began in 2000 - 2001 was just even better for her). Susan Boyle may well have a Million Selling Album, & maybe a No.1 Single - due to the hype over 'Britain's Got Talent'. However, I don't think that she will be a long term Act. She will have a big 1st Album, maybe a less big 2nd one - but, I think the novelty will have worn off by Album No.3. (The novelty being that looking at her, you don't expect her voice to be as good as it is. But, Acts based on novelty & surprise, never last - they soon become 'Last Year's Thing', to most people). I hope to see more Acts getting Million Sellers, due to merit, in the future - and not just because they got attention & fame via UK Talent Shows..... I'm an ABBA Fan, & they got to No.1 with the 1974 ESC Winner. However, they had to fight to get back into the UK Top 10, (the Top 30, even), & their Singles had to get stronger & better, before 'SOS' got to No.6, 18 Months later. So, ABBA carried on having Hits, due to merit - not because they Won Eurovision in 1974. (Anyhow, 'Waterloo' got to No.6 in the USA - due to merit. The fact that it had Won the ESC meant nothing in the USA).

Top 20 Singles Acts: 1950's - 1980's Decades?
I know that this will be virtually impossible to get right, but I was curious to know what people estimate the Top 20 UK SINGLES ACTS of the 1950's were? Then the Top 20 Acts of the 1960's, 1970's, & 1980's? (Singles Acts only). Can anyone come up with any Lists? I realise that they have to be estimated. (And it may be going a step too far, to see if people can show actual estimated Singles Sales Totals, for the Top 20 Acts of those 4 Decades). For example - would Frankie Laine be the biggest UK Singles Act of the 1950's - or would it be Elvis Presley? Where would Guy Mitchell be? Or Pat Boone? The Beatles were easily THE Singles Act of the 1960's - but who was 2nd? Was it Elvis or Cliff? Or neither? Where would The Shadows be on their own? Where, with the Cliff Richard & The Shadows Sales added to their own? The 1970's? ABBA in first place? But, who would be 2nd? Rod Stewart? Slade? Queen? 1980's - Madonna? Followed by Shakin' Stevens, perhaps? Or would it be Michael Jackson in 1st or 2nd place? Where would Queen be? And Madness? What do YOU think?

UK million-selling singles
The last time 2 UK Singles sold a Million in the UK, because people simply liked them, (rather than hype & publicity, through TV Shows & Charities), was in 2001:, 'It Wasn't Me' - Shaggy Feat. RikRok 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head' - Kylie Minogue

Loudjamesbond - Madonna has released 67 Singles in the UK, not 66. 2 didn't make the Top 20 - 'Miles Away', (No.39 in 2008), & 'Everybody' - which was her first UK Single, & failed to Chart. (October 1982).

The Suedehead Chart Commentary
Remember - Suedehead2 - The Shadows only get 3 Albums in the Top 10, if we count Cliff Richard & The Shadows Albums as Shadows Albums. (As well as being Cliff Richard Albums). They never actually managed it as simply The Shadows. However, Virgin Books, Guinness, & The OCC, count Cliff & The Shadows Albums as Shadows Albums too - so I do also. (Otherwise my Stats would not match theirs). THE SHADOWS 20th July 1963 - 17th August 1963 - 5 WEEKS No.2/No.2/No.2/No.2/No.3 - GREATEST HITS No.3/No.3/No.7/No.8/No.10 - SUMMER HOLIDAY (OST) - (CLIFF RICHARD & THE SHADOWS) No.5/No.5/No.3/No.3/No.2 - CLIFFS HIT ALBUM - (CLIFF RICHARD & THE SHADOWS) 7th September 1963 No.3 - GREATEST HITS No.4 - CLIFFS HIT ALBUM - (CLIFF RICHARD & THE SHADOWS) No.8 - SUMMER HOLIDAY (OST) - (CLIFF RICHARD & THE SHADOWS) 5th October - 19th October 1963 - 3 WEEKS No.3/No.3/No.4 - GREATEST HITS No.8/No.5/No.9 - CLIFFS HIT ALBUM - (CLIFF RICHARD & THE SHADOWS) No.10/No.9/No.8 - WHEN IN SPAIN - (CLIFF RICHARD & THE SHADOWS)

BEATLES UK CHART RECORDS IN THE CHART OF W/E 19th SEPTEMBER:, THE FIRST GROUP TO HAVE 4 TOP 10 ALBUMS IN THE SAME CHART 1) They are the first Group - ever - to have 4 Top 10 Albums, in the same Week. The only other Act to manage 4 - or more - was Michael Jackson - earlier in 2009. He had 5 Top 10 Albums in the Chart of W/E 11th July. Then 6 in the W/E 18th July Chart. Then 5 in the W/E 25th July Chart. (Until 2009, no Act had ever managed more than 3 Top 10 Albums at once). THE FIRST GROUP SINCE 1967 TO HAVE MORE THAN TWO TOP 10 ALBUMS AT ONCE:, 2) The last time, (by a Group), was just over 42 Years ago:, THE MONKEES W/E 15th July 1967 No.2 - HEADQUARTERS No.4 - MORE OF THE MONKEES No.6 - THE MONKEES Only 10 Acts have ever managed it. Until now, The Beatles had yet to achieve it. The only other Groups to manage 3 Top 10 Albums - George Mitchell Minstrels, (3 Weeks - 1962 - 1963), The Shadows, (9 Weeks - 1963), The Beach Boys, (2 Weeks - 1966), & The Monkees, (1 Week - 1967). THE MOST TOP 60 ALBUMS BY THE SAME ACT 3) Elvis Presley had a record 14 Top 60 Albums in the Chart of W/E 10th September 1977. (3 of them in the Top 10). The Beatles have now beaten that. They have 16 Albums in the current Top 60. (Michael Jackson had 9 Top 60 Albums in the Charts of W/E 18th July, (all Top 20), W/E 25th July, (all Top 40), W/E 1st August, (all Top 50), W/E 8th August, (all Top 50), & W/E 15th August, (all Top 60 - 11 in the Top 75, that Week).

Despite ASDA, WH Smith, Tesco, & Sainsbury's ALL haviing Beatles Re-Masters in their In-Store Charts, it turns out that they really are not on Sale until Tomorrow! So, they've put Albums in their Sales Chart that cannot - yet - be bought! (What that says about those In-Store Charts, is another matter!).

Poker Face tops the Top 100 download chart of all time
But - as the 'Physical' Singles Market has died out, it stands to reason that a big Selling Act, (like Lady GaGa), would have massive Download Sales. Just as MANY Hits will overtake 'Poker Face', in Downloads, as the Years go by. There will be 800,000 Selling Download Hits, & 900,000, & 1 Million+..... I'm sure that there was a Hit Single that had the Most Sales on CD at one stage, (when Vinyl was dying out) - but, who recalls which Hit it was now? You always get 'The Biggest Sellers' in a New Format, when an old one dies out.....

17 Re-mastered Beatles Albums
The Beatles Albums are already on Sale in UK Super Markets, & in their In-Store Charts:, TESCO CHART 1 - Sgt Pepper 12 - Revolver 31 - Help 32 - Magical Mystery Tour SAINSBURY'S CHART 1 - Sgt Pepper 2 - Revolver 3 - Abbey Road 4 - Rubber Soul 5 - Help! ASDA & WH SMITH CHARTS 1) Sgt Pepper - 19 in WH Smith Chart - 29 in the ASDA Artist Chart 2) Revolver - 24 in WH Smith - 42 in ASDA 3) Help! - 35 in WH Smith - Not in the ASDA Chart 4) Magical Mystery Tour - 31 in WH Smith - Not in the ASDA Chart 'Abbey Road' is at No.23 in ASDA, but it isn't in the other Stores Charts. (Except for being No.3 in Sainsbury's). 'Rubber Soul' is at 24 in ASDA, but not in the other Stores Charts. (Except for being No.4 in Sainsbury's). 'Past Masters' is at No.47 in ASDA, but not in the other Stores Charts. From BILLBOARD:, The Beatles' "1" is the best-selling album of the decade so far, with 11.5 million copies sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The band has sold 28.2 million albums since 2000, second only to Eminem (with 32 million), who they could well pass before the end of the year. and for Rock Band, The Beatles will allow fans to buy at least a portion of their music in digital form as extra downloadable content for the game, starting with "Abbey Road" Oct. 20 and followed by "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" and "Rubber Soul" in November and December, respectively. Sales expectations are high. Wedbush Morgan Securities videogame analyst Michael Pachter estimates the game will sell 5 million copies by year's end, with the disc-only version moving 3.5 million and the deluxe and standard versions selling 1.5 million between them. Each downloadable Beatles album will cost $17, with individual songs going for $2. MTV typically keeps about 70% of the price of downloadable content purchased through "Rock Band." Although the Beatles are believed to have received a better deal, this is still a very profitable business.
