Official Biggest Selling Singles Of The '80s
No - I'm afraid that The OCC have the Top 300 of the 1980's, & they will decide when/if we can see it. (Or part of it). The Top 400 of the 1970's is almost finished too. I hear. As is the Top 250 of the 1960's. ;)

Sunday Chart Predictions
I imagine that the Carole King Album is 'Tapestry', from 1971. If it is still in the Top 75 on Sunday, it will be its first entry since July 2001.

Official Biggest Selling Singles Of The '80s
The OCC have the Top 50 Singles of each Year of the 1980's - with all their estimated and/or announced Sales. However, I don't know what they plan to do with them. All I know is that they were compiled for them - at their request - in July 2008. No doubt, The OCC will use them - for some purpose - one day. A Top 300 of The 1980's was created from the Year End Top 50's.

Official Biggest Selling Singles Of The '80s
'Walk Like An Egyptian' reached No.3 in 1986. It was the 23rd Best Seller of that Year - around 390,000 Sales. 'Stay' by Shakespears Sister, would only have been the 13th Best Seller of 1986, had it been a Hit that Year. And had The Bangles Hit been a 1992 Single, it would have been the 9th Best Seller of 1992.

Official Biggest Selling Singles Of The '80s
'Stay' was the 4th Best Seller of 1992. Despite 8 Weeks at No.1, it only sold around 490,000 copies!

Ethan’s Chart Commentary: Sunday 8th March 2009
Ah! I get it now! Sorry! Take That have now spent 21 Weeks at No.1 on the UK Album Chart - equal with Queen, & 1 more than Oasis. U2 are on 14 No.1 Album Weeks - 15 if they are still No.1 on Sunday. The Top 3 - The Beatles - 174 Weeks, Elvis Presley - 63 Weeks, & ABBA - 57 Weeks. Madonna is on 28 - the same as Elton John, & Robbie Williams.
-
Ethan’s Chart Commentary: Sunday 8th March 2009
That's what I thought he MIGHT mean - but, it isn't so. Take That released SEVEN UK Singles off 'Take That & Party'. The first failed to Chart, & none of the other 6 reached No.1. "Do What You Like" (1991) - Flop "Promises" (1991) - No.38 "Once You've Tasted Love" (1992) - No.47 "It Only Takes a Minute" (1992) - No.7 "I Found Heaven" (1992) - No.15 "A Million Love Songs" (1992) - No.7 "Could It Be Magic" (1992) - No.3
-
Ethan’s Chart Commentary: Sunday 8th March 2009
Ethan, your Commentary is very interesting, but I'm not sure what this part means:, Highly regarded Mancunian man band Take That fail to reach No1 with the second single (Up All Night) from an album (Circus) since Promises reached No38 in November 1991, which was taken from their debut No2 album Take That And Party.

Singles Chart question
The Official Charts, (UK), are really the Top 75's, as far as Chart Books, & the UK Media are concerned. The OCC would like the Chart to be a Top 100 - but, 'MW' are not interested in that idea. So, as a kind of compromise - to Chart Fans - The OCC puts the Top 100 Singles & Albums on its Site. But, the Virgin Singles & Albums Books, will continue to use the Top 75 only. The 2010 Virgin Singles Book will be based on the Top 75 - not confining its Weeks On Chart to the Top 40 only, as the 2008 Edition did. Virgin seem to have realised that it was a mistake to do that. The June 2009 Album Book is certainly based on the entire Top 75.

Singles Chart question
Thanks for your reply, Robbie. I should have been clearer in my Post. You were referring to the Singles Chart becoming a Top 100 in January 1983. I was referring to the ALBUM Chart becoming a Top 100 in August 1981. So, we are actually both right. As to why the entire Top 100 - Singles & Albums - are not used for Chart Book/Media purposes - I asked someone I know, at The OCC, that very question, last Year. I was told that 'Music Week' does not want to include the Top 100's. They are only prepared to make room for the Top 75's. Until 'MW' changes its mind - if ever - the UK will carry on having Top 75's in that Magazine, & those 'MW' Charts will be used for UK Chart Books. I pointed out to, The OCC, that it seems really silly for the UK - 61 Million people - to have only Top 75's counted by Chart Books & 'Music Week', when Countries with very small Populations have Top 100's as their 'Official' Charts. Ireland, for example - Official Top 100's, but only 4 Million people, & a tiny Record Market - compared to the UK. Anyhow, I know that the Facts & Feats Section in the Virgin Hit Albums Book, is based on the Top 75 only. After the entire Album Top 100 was used for August 1981 to January 1989. It's a shame really.

Amazon offers number one single for 29p
I know someone at The OCC. I asked him about the 29p Downloads at Amazon.uk. (If they'd count towards the 'Singles' Chart on Sunday). Here is what he said:, Yes, Amazon are selling about 10 tracks for just 29p each . All are eligible for the chart. It is their choice to sell them at this price so they still count. So, there you have it - The OCC says, 'Yes'. Zeus555

Singles Chart question
08 Jan 1983 Top 100 begins (now compiled by Gallup) That is wrong. The Top 100 began on August 8th 1981. I've seen Data that The OCC compile, (All Time This, & Most Weeks that), & they certainly add in No.76 to No.100 Data from 1981 onwards - stopping doing so in January 1989. The OCC are helping Virgin with the 'British Hit Albums' Book - due in June. However - all the Data in it - including the Top 100 Acts by Weeks On Chart - will be based on the Top 75. The fact that The OCC has the Singles & Albums Top 100's on their Site does not mean that it will make any difference to Trivia Lists, or Books that they help with. The OCC have come up with several Album Chart Facts & Feats Lists for the Book, & not one of them is based on the Top 100. The only parts of them that include Top 100 Data, are from 8th August 1981 to 14th January 1989, when the Chart actually was published as a Top 100, in the Media. (For example, 'Greatest Hits' by Queen, gained 62 Weeks between No.76 & No.100 for that period, but none of its Positions below No.75 have been counted since). The OCC don't necessarily see the Top 100 as THE Chart - it seems that the Top 75 is still what counts.

U2 Album £6 in Morrisons
Yes, Morrisons have put, (large), Adverts in the UK Press, about the U2 Album & the £6 price. Another Store - I forget which - has also put Adverts for U2 in the Press - saying that their Album is £6.97 there.

The Top 60 Albums of the decade
The OCC have up-dated their 'All Time' UK Album Sales Data. They have taken their Top 100 Albums Chart, (November 2006), & have:, 1) Removed the 6 Film Soundtrack Albums from it. (But have compiled an All Time Top 5 Soundtracks List, instead). 2) Removed all the 'Hits' & 'Best Of' etc. Compilations from it. (But have compiled the All Time Top 40 of such Albums). 3) Leaving the Top 100 as an Artist/Studio Album List, now. 4) The up-dates go up to, (& including), the Sales in the Chart of W/E 3rd January 2009 - as the Sales for that Chart were in 2008. 5) They hope that Virgin will agree to put all 3 Charts in the British Hit Albums Book, in June. Virgin have the final say on this. If they go into the Book, the Sales, (rounded), of each Album, will be shown. 6) And, rather than a Top 100, (Top 110), that we got in November 2006, the 3 new Lists contain 145 Albums between them.

Album & Single long runners
Here's the 'Most Weeks On Chart' Albums List - to W/E 7th March. 'Gold' by ABBA, is on 395 Weeks - counting today's New Chart. It was at No.34 last Week, & it is obviously still going to be in the Top 75 today - perhaps in the Top 30. 'The Sound Of Music' used to be on 382 Weeks. it now loses 8 Weeks, because the 'Melody Maker' Album Charts are used for February 6th to March 27th 1971 - and 'The Sound Of Music' was not in any of those 8 Charts. Position/Weeks On Chart/Title/Act 1) 478 Rumours - Fleetwood Mac 2) 474 Bat Out Of Hell - Meat Loaf 3) 472 Greatest Hits - Queen 4) 395 Gold - ABBA 5) 374 The Sound Of Music - Film Soundtrack 6) 373 Legend - Bob Marley & The Wailers 7) 372 The Dark Side Of The Moon - Pink Floyd 8) 315 South Pacific - Film Soundtrack 9) 307 Bridge Over Troubled Water - Simon And Garfunkel 10) 283 Greatest Hits - Simon And Garfunkel 11) 282 War Of The Worlds - Jeff Wayne / Various Artists 12) 278 Tubular Bells - Mike Oldfield 13) 274 Face Value - Phil Collins 14) 251 Making Movies - Dire Straits 15) 242 The Immaculate Collection - Madonna 16) 231 Brothers In Arms - Dire Straits 17) 219 Thriller/Thriller 25 - Michael Jackson 18) 203 Under A Blood Red Sky - U2 19) 202 Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band - The Beatles 20)=200 Love Over Gold - Dire Straits 20)=200 The King & I - Film Soundtrack 22) 198 Nevermind - Nirvana 23)=189 Tracy Chapman - Tracy Chapman 23)=189 Off The Wall - Michael Jackson

Ethan’s Chart Commentary, Sunday 15th February 2009
Ethan, 'Labour Of Love II' by UB40, was not a Chart Topping Album in 1993. It reached No.3 in 1989. Their last Top 3 Album was 'Promises & Lies' - No.1 in 1993.

Almost Saturday Chart w/k ending 6th Feb 2009
Dave, when you say Cyndi Lauper accidently 'nicked' part of a Dana Single for 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun' - do you mean 'Fairy Tale'? (Dana's 1976 Top 20 Hit). I've never thought of it before, but the 'Riff' in both Singles is quite similar. However, I doubt if Cyndi ever heard the Dana Single, as it did nothing in the USA. They did not even know Dana's 1970 ESC Winner there - 'All Kinds Of Everything'.

Has an artist had three or more albums in top ten
Neil Diamond had 3 Albums in the Top 11 in 2008, at one time. W/E 21st June 2008 No.2 - 'Home Before Dark' No.7 - 'The Best Of' No.11 - 'The Essential''

Has an artist had three or more albums in top ten
Frank, I realised that I'd forgotten to include Prince, so I've now added him. He's the only one, (with 3 Albums in the Top 10), to have all 3 as New Entries to the Chart.
