A few Weeks ago, I told you that Ed Sheeran had become the 1st Act to manage 3 Albums with a Year - or more - in the UK Top 10. He has now become the 1st Act to have more than 1 Album, to spend a Year - or more - in the UK Top 5. Ed is one of only 6 Acts, to have an Album, with a Year or more, in the Top 5. It has only been achieved by 7 Artist Albums & now Ed has 2 of them. Only 16 Albums - of any Genre - have achieved it. The Suedehead Chart Commentary
As Simon, (Suedehead2), says - 'Divide' has achieved its 52nd UK Top 10 Week. It is his 3rd Album to reach a Year in the UK Top 10. 'Plus' managed 56 Weeks & 'Multiply' has tallied 98 Weeks. He becomes the 1st Act to achieve 3 UK Top 10 Albums, with a Year - or more - in the Top 10. No-one else has more than 2 - The Beatles and Simon & Garfunkel. 'Divide' is also only the 22nd Artist Album to reach a Year, in the UK Top 10, and only the 32nd Album, of any Genre, to achieve it. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ LIST A -- UK ALBUMS -- WITH THE MOST TOP 10 WEEKS (Excluding Film Soundtracks, Original Cast Albums, & TV Cast Albums) (W/E 28th July 1956 to W/E 8th March 2018) 01) BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER - SIMON & GARFUNKEL - 135 (1970) 02) X - ED SHEERAN - 98 (2014) 03) THRILLER - MICHAEL JACKSON - 88 (1982) (Includes 7 Top 10 Weeks with ‘Thriller 25’) 04) 21 – ADELE - 77 (2011) 05) IN THE LONELY HOUR – SAM SMITH - 76 (2014) 06) TUBULAR BELLS - MIKE OLDFIELD - 74 (1973) 07)=BACK TO BLACK - AMY WINEHOUSE - 72 (2006) (Includes 12 Weeks with the ‘Deluxe Edition’) 07)=THE FAME - LADY GAGA - 72 (2009) (Includes the Sales of ‘The Fame Monster’) 09) OUR VERSION OF EVENTS - EMELI SANDE - 67 (2012) 10) BROTHERS IN ARMS - DIRE STRAITS - 66 (1985) 11) THE SINGLES 1969 - 1973 - THE CARPENTERS - 64 (1974) 12) PLEASE PLEASE ME - THE BEATLES - 62 (1963) 13) GREATEST HITS - SIMON & GARFUNKEL - 59 (1972) (Peaked at No.2) 14) GOLD - ABBA - 58 (1992) 15)=TALK ON CORNERS - THE CORRS - 56 (1997) 15)=NO ANGEL - DIDO - 56 (2000) 15)=+ - ED SHEERAN - 56 (2011) 18) BEST OF THE BEACH BOYS VOL.1 - THE BEACH BOYS - 55 (1966) (Peaked at No.2) 19) LED ZEPPELIN II - LED ZEPPELIN - 54 (1970) 20)=SGT PEPPER’S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND - THE BEATLES - 52 (1967) ### 20)=(WHAT’S THE STORY) MORNING GLORY? - OASIS - 52 (1995) 20)=÷ - ED SHEERAN – 52 (2017) ### = The Official Charts Company, have 'Sergeant Pepper' on 49 Top 10 Weeks, as they do not count its 3 Top 10 Weeks in 1987. YTD T40 Albums (with estimated sales) + Singles (pos only)
Since it first entered the UK Charts, (W/E 3rd October 1992), 'ABBA Gold' has sold at least 5,400,000 UK copies. Indeed, Gezza gives it an even bigger UK Sale of 5,594,200, to last Friday - 12th January 2018. It depends how many estimated UK Sales you give it for W/E 3rd October 1992 to W/E 5th February 1994. The OCC have full details of its UK Sales from W/E 12th February 1994 to W/E 18th January 2018.

YTD T40 Albums (with estimated sales) + Singles (pos only)
'ABBA Gold' is given 4,619,500 UK Sales in this W/E 18th January 2018 Thread. It is missing many 100,000 UK Sales. On Monday 11th August 2008 Alan Jones said this: "Gold: Greatest Hits sold 38,161 copies last week, and continues to climb closer to the all-time top three albums list. To close of business on August 2, it had sold 4,191,426 copies". Which only gives it 428,074 UK Sales from August 2008 to January 2018. It has clearly sold far more than that, in that period. It sold 410,119 copies in 2008, 248,500 in 2009, 150,900 in 2010, 95,400 in 2011, 81,300 in 2012, 77,250 in 2013, 70,300 in 2014, 84,000 in 2015, 88,500 in 2016 & 91,000 in 2017. Plus 5,500 - so far - in 2018. With 'Mamma Mia 2' coming out in late July, 'ABBA Gold' is sure to sell over 100,000 UK copies, by the end of 2018. Even though most of the ABBA Songs in the 2nd Film will be from 'More ABBA Gold', & various ABBA Studio Albums.

The Suedehead Chart Commentary
In today's UK Album Chart -- W/E 7th September 2017 - 'ABBA Gold' rises from No.89 to No.76. It sold about 1,370 copies to reach No.76. 1)... It becomes the 1st Album to reach 800 Top 100 Weeks, in the UK. (32 more Weeks and it will have been in the UK Top 100 for 16 Years). 2)... It has spent 526 Weeks in the UK Top 75. That is the 2nd most Weeks by any Album. ALBUMS WITH THE MOST UK TOP 75 WEEKS A)... Legend -- Bob Marley & The Wailers -- 545 Weeks B)... ABBA Gold -- ABBA -- 526 Weeks C)... Greatest Hits (One) -- Queen -- 518 Weeks @@@ @@@ = The OCC say 524 Top 75 Weeks, for the Queen Compilation. They give it 7 Weeks too many. They include the 7 Top 75 Weeks of a Double CD, (Greatest Hits I & II), from 1994. That was a No.37 Hit, but its 7 Top 75 Weeks should not be included in the Chart Run of the 1981 Greatest Hits Album. So, we remove 7 Weeks from The OCC Total = 517 Weeks. Then we add in a No.73 Week, for W/E 9th October 1982 = 518 Weeks. For some reason, The OCC miss out that 1982 No.73 Position. The 7 Top 75 Positions - 1994 Double CD - that The OCC wrongly include with Queen's Greatest Hits (One), are: W/E 19th November 1994 – 37-40-50-43-40-39-44 3)... FURTHER TOP 100 WEEKS -- THAT THE OCC DO NOT HAVE The UK Album Chart has been a Top 100 for many Years. This includes 12th September 1992 to February 5th 1994. However, The OCC only have Top 75's for that, (1992 to 1994), period. A)... The OCC give Greatest Hits (One) by Queen, 788 Top 100 Weeks. That is wrong. You have to remove the 7 Top 100 Weeks of the 1994 Double CD. That gives 781 Weeks. Then you add in the No.73 Top 100 Week that they miss out, from October 1982. That gives 782 Weeks. So, that is its real Top 100 Weeks, from the Charts that The OCC have. The Queen Album loses 32 Top 100 Weeks from September 1992 to W/E 5th February 1994, as The OCC only has Top 75's. So, that's 782 Weeks + 32 = 814 Top 100 Weeks. So, the Queen Album was really the 1st UK Album to reach 800 Top 100 Weeks, 14 Weeks ago. But, The OCC don't have 32 of its Top 100 Positions..... B)... They, (OCC), give 'Legend' 787 Top 100 Weeks. However, they miss out 19 of its Top 100 Positions, from 1993, when they only have Top 75's. Plus 2 further Top 100 Positions from January 1994. That's 21 Top 100 Positions, that 'Legend' loses. It should really have 808 Top 100 Weeks, which means that it too reached 800 UK Top 100 Weeks before 'ABBA Gold'. C)... ABBA Gold is really on 802 Top 100 Weeks. The OCC only have Top 75's for 2 Weeks when it was at No.77 - W/E 22nd May 1993 and W/E 5th February 1994.

As Linkin Park have 3 simultaneous Top 10 Albums, it is the 18th time that an Act has had at least 3. However, it has been achieved by 15 different Acts. This is because 3 of them did it in more than one Year - Elvis Presley, (1957 & 1977), David Bowie, (1973 & 2016), and Prince, (1993 & 2016). Until Linkin Park, the last 'American' Group to manage it, were The Monkees, in August 1967 - 50 Years ago. As Davy Jones was British, the last wholly American Group, to achieve it, were the Beach Boys, in August 1966 - 51 Years ago. In both cases 'Exile On Main Street' by the Rolling Stones has the 2nd longest 'Gap' & the 2nd longest 'Span'. B)... The 2010 No.1 had a 2nd Disk, of 10 'New' Songs, added, so The OCC decided that it was a brand new No.1 Album for the Group. Which is why The OCC counted the 'Blue & Lonesome' No.1, (December 2016), as the Rolling Stones 12th UK No.1 Album & not their 11th. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

The Suedehead Chart Commentary
Ed Sheeran is only the 4th Act, to have 3 simultaneous Singles, in the Top 5 of the UK Singles Chart. Frankie Laine achieved it, for 4 consecutive Weeks, in October & November 1953. Justin Bieber did it, for 9 Weeks, in 2015 to 2016. John Lennon did it, for 2 Weeks, in 1981. If Ed can manage 4 simultaneous Top 10 Singles, in next Week's Chart, he will be only the 2nd Act to do that. Frankie Laine had 4, at the same time, in 1953 - for 3 Weeks. Of course, if Ed ever manages 5 UK Top 10 Singles, in the same Chart, then that will be the 1st time that anyone has ever achieved that. NOTE - Ed Sheeran has now had the UK's No.1 & No.2 Singles for the 4th Week in a row. He is only the 2nd Artist to achieve that - but the 1st to do it with the same 2 Singles. 'Shape Of You' at No.1 and 'Castle On The Hill' at No.2. (Justin Bieber is the only other Act to manage 4 consecutive Weeks at No.1 & No.2, in the UK Singles Chart. But on W/E 3rd December 2015 he had 'Sorry' at No.1 and 'Love Yourself' at No.2. Top 100 Best Selling Albums Of The Decade...So Far!
From a very recent 'Music Week'. "The 16-times platinum album, which is currently the fourth biggest selling British album of all time, achieved the feat six years after its release. The only British albums to have shifted more copies are The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (5.1 millions sales), ABBA’s Gold compilation (5.2m) and Queen’s Greatest Hits (6.1m)". What 'Music Week' said about ABBA Gold was out of Date. In July 2016 The OCC said that ABBA Gold was 'almost' on 5,300,000 UK Sales. It went on to sell at least 50,000 to 60,000 more UK copies by the final Sales Chart of 2016 - W/E 5th January 2017. So, even on The OCC's much lower Total than Gezza's, (5,504,000), ABBA Gold is now on about 5,320,000 to 5,350,000 UK Sales. Its known & estimated UK Sales in the UK's Annual Top 200 Best Selling Albums: 01)... It was 12th for 1992 -- Sales??? -- (525,000 -- Estimated) 02)... ACTS WITH THE No.1 & No.2 SINGLES AT THE SAME TIME Ed Sheeran has become only the 7th Act to have the UK's No.1 Singles, in the same Week. He's also the 1st living UK Solo Act to achieve it. EMELI SANDE Her 1st Album, ('Our Version Of Events'), spent 10 Weeks at No.1 and it was also the debut Album with the most consecutive Weeks in the Top 10 - 66. It beat the 1st Beatles Album, ('Please Please Me'), which had 62 consecutive Top 10 Weeks. Emeli's Album had a 67th Top 10 Week, 2 Weeks after its 66th. Her 1st Album came out in February 2012, but she has left it far too long to release her 2nd Album, ('Long Live the Angels'). That is why it has 'only' entered at No.2, in today's Chart. I doubt if it will hang around the Top 10 very long. From what I hear, it is not as strong as her 1st Album, and she has lost a great many Fans as it is. We'll see if she does a Dido, whose first 2 Albums were huge in the UK, but she took too long to release her 3rd. That entered at No.2 & fell to No.18 in Week 2. Her Career never recovered. Nor did Duffy, who had a gigantic debut Album, only for her 2nd to enter at No.9, & it then dropped like a stone..... @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Due to Emeli's Album entry today being her 68th UK Top 10 Album Week, I've up-dated these Lists. They have both ‘Come Fly With Me’ and ‘Only For The Lonely’ at No.3 – for its 1st & only Top 10 Week. However, there was no such Chart Entry as ‘Only For The Lonely’, so The OCC give him 1 Top 10 Week too many – 316. He was in the same Top 10, (at No.9), with ‘Frank Sinatra Sings Only For The Lonely’ and that Album was a No.5 Hit & spent 13 Weeks in the Top 10. It has the same Capital Label Number as ‘Only For The Lonely’ - LCT 6168. ‘Only For The Lonely’ does not exist in UK Chart Books either. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ MALE SOLO ACTS WITH THE MOST UK TOP 10 ALBUMS WEEKS (W/E 28th July 1956 to W/E 24th November 2016) 01)… ELVIS PRESLEY – 540 Weeks 02)… CLIFF RICHARD – 340 Weeks 03)… FRANK SINATRA – 315 Weeks (Not including 22 Weeks with the 1958 ‘Pal Joey’ OST) 04)… MICHAEL JACKSON – 265 Weeks 05)… ROD STEWART – 259 Weeks 06)… ELTON JOHN – 217 Weeks 07)… BOB DYLAN – 199 Weeks 08)… DAVID BOWIE – 191 Weeks 09)… ROBBIE WILLIAMS – 185 Weeks 10)… PHIL COLLINS – 158 Weeks @@@ 11)… TOM JONES – 153 Weeks 12)… ED SHEERAN – 129 Weeks 13)… ANDY WILLIAMS – 118 Weeks 14)… MIKE OLDFIELD – 115 Weeks 15)… BUDDY HOLLY – 106 Weeks (Includes 1 Week credited with The Crickets in 1958) @@@ = PHIL COLLINS – The OCC has ‘Hello I Must Be Going’ rising from No.23 to No.9 in the Chart of W/E 2nd April 1983. The Suedehead Chart Commentary
Over-all Robbie Williams has sung on 16 UK No.1 Albums. He was on 4 with Take That - Everything Changes, (1993), Nobody Else, (1995), Greatest Hits, (1996), and Progress, (2010). The OCC regards the enhanced version - Progressed - reaching No.1, in 2011, as Progress returning to No.1. Although Robbie left Take That in June 1995 & Greatest Hits was released in March 1996, it is right to say that it is one of his No.1's, as he sang on 17 of the 18 Tracks on it. Only 3 of The Beatles have been on more UK No.1 Albums - Paul McCartney, (22), and John Lennon & George Harrison, (18 each). George's 18 include 1 with The Traveling Wilburys, in 2007. Ringo Starr has had 15 UK No.1 Albums - all with The Beatles.

Simon - No, nothing you, (or anyone else), has said caused me to 'abandon' the 4 Chart Trivia Lists, that I planned to add to your Thread today. I just decided that all 4 of them were not that great & that I'd rather use the 2 No.1's Lists. I will use the other 4 Lists in the future, when I feel they are good enough & relevant enough. Yes, The OCC do make many odd decisions. I tried to find Barbra Streisand in their Artists, ('B'), Section, & she is just not there! You can only see her collaborations. If you want to get to Barbra's full Section, you have to find an old Chart, (say 1977, 1980, or 1982), that she has a Hit Single or Album in, & click on her name in the Chart! The OCC recently did an Article about Barbra having her 7th UK No.1 Album. But, in her Section they only give her 6! They don't count the 1977 'A Star Is Born' Soundtrack as a Barbra No.1. But they do List it as a very low re-entry for her, (No.71), in 1982! (You can only get 7 UK No.1 Albums for her by counting the 1977 Film Soundtrack, as one of her No.1's).

The Suedehead Chart Commentary
I worked on 4 Lists for this Weeks contribution to Suedehead's Thread. In the end I decided not to use any of them. Instead I up-dated the 2 Lists below. NOTE -- As you can see, the fact that Robbie's latest No.1 Album is his 12th & his 35th No.1 Album Week, moves him up in both Lists. He moves into the Top 10 in the Acts with the most No.1 Weeks List. He moves up to No.7 in the List of the Acts with the most UK No.1's. As you can see, he is 7th= in that List - with Take That. But their No.1 Hits are a mirror image of each other - Take That have 12 No.1 Singles & 7 No.1 Albums & Robbie has 7 No.1 Singles & 12 No.1 Albums..... ELTON JOHN -- For some reason The OCC does not count Elton's 2012 Album, with the Australian Duo Pnau, as being a No.1 for him. Even though it is credited to Elton John vs Pnau and all 3 of them are pictured on the cover. So The OCC give Elton 6 UK No.1 Albums & 28 No.1 Album Weeks - giving him 51 UK No.1 Weeks over-all. As you can see, I do count his No.1 with Pnau as being an Elton No.1 & he gets 52 UK No.1 Weeks in my List. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ THE ACTS WITH THE MOST UK NUMBER 1’s (W/E 15th November 1952 to W/E 17th November 2016) (S = No.1 Singles + B = No.1 Albums) 01)… ELVIS PRESLEY – S = 21 + A = 13 = 34 UK No.1’s @@@ 02)… THE BEATLES – S = 17 + A = 15 = 32 UK No.1’s 03)… MADONNA – S = 13 + A = 12 = 25 UK No.1’s 04)= CLIFF RICHARD – S = 14 + A = 7 = 21 UK No.1’s 04)= WESTLIFE – S = 14 + A = 7 = 21 UK No.1’s 06)= TAKE THAT – S = 12 + A = 7 = 19 UK No.1’s 06)= ROBBIE WILLIAMS – S = 7 + A = 12 = 19 UK No.1’s 08)= ROLLING STONES – S = 8 + A = 10 = 18 UK No.1’s 08)= ABBA – S = 9 + A = 9 = 18 UK No.1’s 10)= MICHAEL JACKSON – S = 7 + A = 10 = 17 UK No.1’s 10)= U2 – S = 7 + A = 10 = 17 UK No.1’s 12)= DAVID BOWIE – S = 5 + A = 11 = 16 UK No.1’s 12)= OASIS – S = 8 + A = 8 = 16 UK No.1’s @@@ = ELVIS PRESLEY -- If you count Elvis's 3 No.1's in 2005 as old No.1's returning there, then he's had 18 No.1 Singles. Yes - Robbie may have his 12th No.1 Album in November - but Elvis Presley could have his 13th in October. Then we have David Bowie, who could have his 12th in November & Kate Bush could have her 4th in November. Robbie has also had 11 No.1 Albums in Germany - the same as The Beatles. So, if he gets his 12th in November, he has had more German No.1 Albums than them. However, it would 'only' be his 47th No.1 Album Week there - The Beatles had 119.....
