    I did 2 Chart Trivia Lists for the latest UK Album Chart. Both were based on Bruce Springsteen having his 11th UK No.1 Album & 17th Week at No.1. In the end I could use neither List, as Passenger had the No.1 Album & Bruce entered at No.2. I guess that is just how it goes sometimes..... :(

She is the 2nd Artist, within a few Weeks, to reach 40 UK No.1 Weeks. In the Album Chart of W/E 11th February, David Bowie had his 40th No.1 Week. It becomes the 1st Album to reach 500 Weeks in the UK Top 75. It also has the most Top 100 Weeks - 736. It really has 738 Top 200 Weeks, but The OCC only have Top 75 Charts for the period of W/E 12th September 1992 to W/E 5th February 1994. The ABBA Gold Album had 2 No.77 Weeks during that period. But, The OCC only have Top 75's & don't count those 2 Weeks. Greatest Hits (One) by Queen loses out on 32 Top 100 Weeks for that period. The OCC give it 706 Top 100 Weeks & 475 Top 75 Weeks. Both Totals are wrong. 1)... The OCC miss out a No.73 Week for it in the early 1980's. So that gives it 476 Top 75 Weeks. 2)... But, they give it 7 Top 75 Weeks too many, as well.     Popchartfreak - I know that it is far easier for a big Act to sell a lot of 'Singles' now, than in the past. Unfortunately, people who write Chart Trivia can only comment on how the Charts are each Week. The fact that some Chart Feats are easier for today's big Acts, is not really an issue. I just write about what goes on in the Charts - as does Simon, (Suedehead), & Alan Jones etc. As you say, there is 24/7, 365 Days a Year availability of Downloads. In the 1960's, 1970's, 1980's etc. an Act could only Chart if a Single was still in the Shops. Now a 'Single' can Chart forever - as long as people want to buy it. Streaming is also helping today's big Acts stay in the Singles Charts for longer. That's why we see Adele, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith etc. stay in the 'Singles' Chart for longer than Acts from previous Decades As a result, if we give 75 Points for No.1 down to 1 Point for No.75, to every Hit from the Download Era, we are already seeing more & more of the UK's All Time Singles - based on Points - taking over the All Time Top 100. The UK's Top 30 All Time Singles (Points Based) is already filling up with Hits from the past few Years. Ed Sheeran's Thinking Out Loud is the 2nd All Time UK Single, based on Points - beaten only by My Way by Frank Sinatra, that scored so many due to Charting for 124 Weeks.     An Original Cast Recording is allowed into the main, (Artist), Album Chart. But a Film Soundtrack is not - unless it is credited to an Artist. Or an Artist & Various Artists. If it is just credited to Various Artists then it has to go into the Soundtrack Chart. (They used to be put into the Compilation Chart). This can be best illustrated by Mamma Mia! The 1999 Original Cast Recording was allowed into the Artist Chart. It eventually Peaked at No.12, in 2008. However, the 2008 Mamma Mia! Film Soundtrack was only allowed into the Compilation Chart. It was No.1, in that Chart, for 11 non-consecutive Weeks. Evita is usually credited to Madonna & Various Artists - which is why it was allowed into the Artist Chart, & why several UK Chart Books regard it as one of Madonna's No.1 Albums - giving her 12 UK No.1 Albums. The Bodyguard is regarded as a Film Soundtrack by Various Artists & it was only allowed into the Compilation Chart. It is not regarded as a Whitney Houston No.1 in the UK. But, in the USA it is credited to Whitney Houston & Various Artists, & it is regarded as a Whitney No.1 there. Saturday Night Fever is counted as a Bee Gees No.1 Album in the USA, as it is credited to the Bee Gees & Various Artists. In the UK it is counted only as a Film Soundtrack, by Various Artists, & the Bee Gees do not have it counted as a UK No.1 for them. It was allowed into the main UK Album Chart in 1978, because there was no Compilation Chart at that time. The same for the Grease Soundtrack, which was also No.1 in 1978.

So, it is up to 'the individual' if you regard it as a Madonna No.1.     As Elvis Presley has his 12th UK No.1 Album I thought that I'd add these 2 Lists here. NOTE -- Whilst the UK is the biggest Record Market in Europe, the biggest on the Continent of Europe is Germany. It is interesting to note that Elvis Presley only had 1 No.1 Single in Germany. That was In The Ghetto, in 1969. Ironically that was not a UK No.1 Hit, (No.2). He only had 1 No.1 Album there - The King, in 2007.     It looks like Sam Smith's Album will soon have a new burst of life. He is re-issuing it as the 'Drowning Sorrows Edition' on Friday 6th November. It's had a 2nd CD added to it, with 9 Tracks. The Tracks include Duets with John Legend & Mary J Blige. One of the added tracks is his cover of Whitney's How Will I Know, & another is his cover of Amy Winehouse's Love Is A Losing Game. The OCC will combine its Sales with those of the original version.

  23. They are obviously not counting the UK Sales of 'Hits' Albums, when they show each Act's best selling 21st Century Album. 'All Over The World - The Very Best Of' is - by far - E.L.O.'s biggest selling UK Album of this Century. It was released in 2005, when it peaked at No.6. From June 2005 to April 2015 it has spent 52 Weeks in the Top 75 & 87 Weeks in the Top 100. The BPI have given it 2 Platinum Awards. As a contrast, the 2007 re-issue of Out Of The Blue was a No.18 Hit & it spent 4 Weeks in the Top 75//Top 100.

  25. The Hit Parade - Twist And Shout by The Beatles is excellent. It was originally by the Top Notes, in 1961. The Isley Brothers covered it in 1962, & reached No.17 in the USA & No.42 in the UK. The Beatles did not release it as a UK Single. They released it as a 4 Track EP here, & was No.1 in the UK EP Chart, for 21 Weeks, from 1963 to 1964. It was a No.2 Single in the USA Billboard Charts, & No.1 in the USA Cashbox Charts. The Tremeloes had a UK No.4 Single with it in 1963.
