Sam Smith has now become the 1st Male Soloist in UK Album Chart History, (since W/E 28th July 1956), to go to No.1 as many as 6 times with the same Album. 3 Film Soundtracks went to No.1 more than 8 times - The Sound Of Music - 12, (70 No.1 Weeks), The King And I - 11, (48 No.1 Weeks), & South Pacific - 9, (115 No.1 Weeks). West Side Story went to No.1 7 times, (13 No.1 Weeks). Sam's Album is also only the 5th Artist Album to manage 6, (or more), Runs at No.1, & only the 3rd by a UK Artist. JAGGED LITTLE PILL - ALANIS MORISSETTE (1995) I see that it is a Re-Entry at No.16. It was last in the Top 20 on W/E 8th February 1997 - at No.19 -- (18 Years ago). @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ SAM SMITH'S 4 RUNS AT NUMBER 1 IN THE UK ALBUM CHART Sam Smith's In The Lonely Hour has its 3rd return to No.1, & its 4th Run at No.1 over all. 1) It is the 6th time, (since the Album Chart began in July 1956), that a Solo Male has had as many as 4 Runs at No.1 with the same Album. 2) Meat Loaf is one of the 6 & he is the only Male Solo Act to have more than 4 Runs at No.1 with the same Album. His Bat Out Of Hell II - Back Into Hell Album was No.1 in 5 Runs in 1993. 3) The 5 Male Solo Acts to have 4 Runs at No.1 with the same Album, are: This Is Sinatra - Frank Sinatra, (all in 1957), Thriller - Michael Jackson, (1983 to 1984), No Parlez - Paul Young, (1983 to 1984), Justified - Justin Timberlake (2002), which had its 4 Runs at No.1 in 2003, & In The Lonely Hour - Sam Smith, (2014 to 2015). 4) So Sam Smith is only the 2nd UK Solo Male to manage it, & the 1st one was Paul Young way back in 1983 & 1984. 5) Sam is the 1st Solo Male to achieve it since Justin Timberlake in 2003. 6) Although no Solo Males have had more than 5 Runs at No.1 with the same Album, it has been beaten by 2 Solo Females. (Both of them British). Adele's 21 Album had 7 Runs at No.1 between 2011 & 2012. The other is Emeli Sande's Our Version Of Events, which also had 7 Runs at No.1 between 2012 & 2013. (The West Side Story Film Soundtrack also had 7 Runs at No.1 - from 1962 to 1963). 7) Only 1 Artist Album has had more than 7 Runs at No.1. That Album was Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel, which had 8 No.1 Runs from 1970 to 1971. That is beaten by only 3 Film Sound Track Albums -- The Sound Of Music - 12 Runs from 1965 to 1968, The King & I - 11 Runs from 1956 to 1958, & South Pacific - 9 Runs at No.1 from 1958 to 1961. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

SAM SMITH'S UK MALE SOLO CHART RECORD Sam Smiths In The Lonely Hour Album has its 37th Top 5 Week in today's UK Album Chart. It is the most by any UK Male Solo Act. QUESTIONS -- Could someone please tell me how many Weeks the Sam Smith Album has spent in the Top 5? And the X Album by Ed Sheeran? How many Top 10 Weeks, (& Top 5), has the George Ezra Album had? Thanks. QUEEN -- The OCC are giving Greatest Hits by Queen 613 Chart Weeks, this Week. Does anyone know how they get that Total? No.1 Single & No.1 Album by 1 act in the same week
Hadji - Thanks for spotting that I'd missed out Rihanna's 1st, (of 3), 'Double Top' Feats. The one from June 2007. I knew that she'd done it 3 times, but I missed it out, when I compiled the List of Acts who've achieved it more than once. I've now added her 2007 'Double Top' to my Post that has that List in it.

The biggest selling X Factor winner's singles revealed
In today's 'The Sun' Simon Cowell said that if he saw Andrea performing in a Club he would not sign him. That he lacks something. He called him 'Too predictable'. He added that he 'Would not be a fit' at his Label. (That Andrea would not fit in there, in other words). As the 'Competition' is still on-going I thought that it was a very inappropriate thing to say. After all, it is supposed to be a 3 way Final Weekend. It is as if Simon already knows that Fleur will win, so he sees no reason why he cannot say negative things about Andrea in the UK Press.

MRIB sad news
I got my Email about Dave going to Australia in November, & I have not looked at it since then. I've just re-read it & I see that it was not Jason Scott who was asked about Dave. It was Richard Todd, a DJ who presents the Classic Retro Countdown. (Dave Produced that Radio 'Show', as well as Jason Scott's Radio 'Show'). Here is what the November 27th Email said. (It is from a 'Contact' of Dave's from the Pop Scene Site). I have no idea how true the 'Australian Story' is. Apparently Dave had/has Family there. (I'm just telling you what I've been told. My real name is Colin). "Hi Colin: I have been in contact with Richard Todd, who presents the online Classic Retro Countdown, that Dave used to produce until last year. According to him, Dave went to Australia about 6 months ago (I know he had family out there) and hasn't been heard of since. I think if something would have happened Richard would know, but it's all very mysterious".

MRIB sad news
It is still not certain if Dave Taylor has actually died. He used to Produce the Ultimate UK Chart, which is presented by Jason Scott, on Wire Radio. Someone who used to know Dave recently made enquiries with Wire Radio as to what became of him. He was told that Dave went to Australia several Months ago & 'Has not been heard from since'. So he may well be alive - in Australia. (Unless he was only pretending to go there). Therefore he might have died in the UK or Australia. Or he may still be alive in the UK or Australia. It is all a big mystery.

OCC: Take That's Best Selling Songs
Robbie - I also think that the 385,000 Sales for 'Babe' is too low. especially as it got a Platinum Disc on 1st January 1994. I contacted The OCC & suggested that they'd missed out some of its 1994 Sales. They are standing by their 385,000 Total, & are saying that nothing has been left out. Their reply to me:, "Those figures for Babe are the latest we have, based on all available sales data". 'Sure' -- I recall that Gary Barlow thought it was as brilliant as 'Back For Good'. He could not understand why it was 'only' no.1 for 2 Weeks. I regard it as the weakest & worst of all 12 of Take That's UK No.1 Singles. No where near as great as 'Back For Good'.

The Suedehead Chart Commentary
I've now added some 'Notes' to my Post about the Acts with the 'Most UK Number 1 Singles'. There is a German fellow, who works out the All Time UK Singles Acts. He actually counts The Jordanaires as being an Act in their own right. He gives them Points for every Elvis Presley Hit that they are on. Making them the 3rd 'All Time Singles Act' in the UK. With The Beatles in 4th place. Beaten only by Cliff Richard, (2nd), & Elvis Presley, (1st). He does the same for the USA Singles Chart, & they are the 4th All Time Act in that List. Beaten only by Rihanna, (3rd), Lil Wayne(!), (2nd), & Elvis Presley, (1st).

BrasselsSprouts - I'm aware that JLS had 5 UK No.1's as JLS & a 6th as a credited Act on the 2011 X Factor Finalists No.1, 'Wishing On A Star'. However, I match my Lists to the 'Rules' that The OCC use. They have decided not to count 'Wishing On A Star' as a JLS No.1. They have also decided that One Direction cannot be credited with it either. Even though they too have a separate credit on it. So The OCC gives JLS 5 UK No.1 Singles & they give One Direction 3 UK No.1 Singles.

The Suedehead Chart Commentary
As 'These Days' by Take That is their 12th UK No.1 Single & their 29th No.1 Singles Week, I've up-dated these 2 Lists. NOTES A)... Although both JLS & One Direction have their own separate credits on the 2011 X Factor Finalists No.1, ('Wishing On A Star'), The OCC do not count it as a 6th No.1 for JLS & a 4th No.1 for One Direction. I have decided to follow the same 'Rule'. B)... The SHADOWS -- They would be 3rd= in List 1 if their 7 No.1 Singles with Cliff Richard were to be added to their 5 No.1 Singles as The Shadows. But The OCC told me a few Years ago that they do not combine their Hits with Cliff Richard with those of The Shadows. So I've followed their 'Rule'. C)... Which is why The Shadows are 11th= in List 2. If their 28 No.1 Weeks with Cliff Richard, were added to their 16 No.1 Weeks as The Shadows, they would be 2nd in List 2 -- with 44 No.1 Weeks. Band Aid
Mango - I doubt if 'The Public' have ordered 250,000 copies of the Band Aid CD from ASDA. But, if they have, then it does not mean that 250,000 different people have done so. The biggest UK Charity CD's often have a lot of people buying several copies, to give as gifts to family & friends. So the 250,000 copies could be 125,000 people ordering it twice, or 50,000 people ordering 5 copies each. And any combination of people buying multiple copies. I'm sure that some people will order as many as 10 or 12 copies of it. Anyhow, the 250,000 Band Aid CD claim is certainly true - Band Aid 30 have acknowledged it, & ASDA's £1 Million donation, in their Twitter account. https://twitter.com/BandAid30/status/537214724568805376 Soon we will see if the CD really will actually sell those 250,000 copies in ASDA stores.
-
Band Aid
According to what I've read around The Internet today, the CD version of the Band Aid 30 Single has 250,000 'Pre-Sales' in ASDA Stores. As a result ASDA has already donated the cash from them - £1 Million - to Band Aid. (At around £4 a copy for the CD). The question is - have people really ordered 250,000 copies of the CD from ASDA, or are 250,000 copies what ASDA thinks it will sell in their stores? The 2 things are not the same. (The first is a more or less guaranteed Sale, & the second is an assumption & an estimate by ASDA).

Singles selling more than 250,000 copies in one week.
The Robson & Jerome version of 'Unchained Melody' sold so well & so fast because they were 2 of the most popular cast members of the ITV Series 'Soldier Soldier', which was on TV at that time. (1995). They sang the Song on the Drama, & a great many people urged them to release it as a Single. They did, & it ended up selling well over a Million, & stayed at No.1 for 7 Weeks. On the back of it all, their 1st Album sold over 2 Million in the UK & they had 2 further No.1 Singles & 1 more No.1 Album.

Songs That Have Been Number One More Than Once
A German guy has worked out the biggest UK Singles, since November 1952 - based on Points in the Top 75. He combines the Points of all 3 previous Band Aid Singles, & has it in 15th place. It will move up to 11th place when he adds in the 4th version's No.1 Points on Sunday. It is silly really. It is OK to say that it has been No.1 in 4 versions, but as the recordings & most of the Artists on them, are not the same, their Points should not be combined. They are not the same record. Technically the latest version is not even, (mostly), the same Song, as the lyrics have been re-written. It is just the same tune. A very tenuous reason to add all the versions together.
