Michael Jackson becomes only the 8th Act to have as many as 10, (or more), UK No.1 Albums. He is also be only the 5th Solo Artist to achieve it - & the 4th Male Solo Artist to do so. THE ARTISTS WITH THE MOST UK No.1 ALBUMS (To W/E 24th May 2014) (Weeks At No.1 in Brackets) 1) BEATLES - 15 (174W) 2) MADONNA - 12 (30W) 3)=ELVIS PRESLEY - 11 (63W) 3)=ROBBIE WILLIAMS - 11 (34W) 5)=THE ROLLING STONES - 10 (45W) 5)=MICHAEL JACKSON - 10 (31W) 5)=BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN - 10 (16W) 5)=U2 - 10 (15W) @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ THE ACTS WITH THE MOST UK No.1 WEEKS (Singles & Albums Combined) (To W/E 24th May 2014) ( S = Singles No.1 Weeks & A = Albums No.1 Weeks) 01) BEATLES - 69 (S) + 174 (A) = 243 Weeks 02) ELVIS PRESLEY - 80 (S) + 63 (A) = 143 Weeks 03) ABBA - 31 (S) + 57 (A) = 88 Weeks 04) CLIFF RICHARD - 46 (S) + 30 (A) = 76 Weeks 05) ROLLING STONES - 18 (S) + 45 (A) = 63 Weeks 06) MADONNA - 29 (S) + 30 (A) = 59 Weeks 07) TAKE THAT - 28 (S) + 28 (A) = 56 Weeks 08) ELTON JOHN - 23 (S) + 29 (A) = 52 Weeks 09) MICHAEL JACKSON - 16 (S) + 31 (A) = 47 Weeks 10) ROD STEWART - 18 (S) + 28 (A) = 46 Weeks NOTE - THE SHADOWS would be in 4th place if we add their credited No.1 Weeks with Cliff Richard to their No.1 Weeks as The Shadows. They had 28 No.1 Singles Weeks with Cliff, & 21 No.1 Albums Weeks with him. Giving them 44 No.1 Singles Weeks & 42 No.1 Albums Weeks = 86 No.1 Weeks. If we remove their No.1 Weeks with Cliff, we get them on 16 No.1 Singles Weeks & 21 No.1 Albums Weeks = 37 No.1 Weeks. Which puts them in 15th place. (I keep 2 Sets of Lists. One Set I call Non-Contentious, where The Shadows do not get any No.1 Weeks with Cliff Richard, & the Bee Gees do not get the 18 No.1 Weeks from the 'Saturday Night Fever' Soundtrack. The other Set I call Contentious, as I do add the Cliff Richard & The Shadows No.1 Weeks to The Shadows No.1 Weeks, & I do add the 18 No.1 Weeks from 'Saturday Night Fever',(1978), to the Bee Gees No.1 Weeks). @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ And Rita Ora equals the 4 UK No.1 Singles of Geri Halliwell, & they are the UK Female 'Solo' Artists with the most No.1 Singles. The Suedehead Chart Commentary
A) THE FIRST TIME - 2 DIFFERENT SCOTTISH ACTS AT No.1 IN BOTH UK CHARTS IN THE SAME WEEK As we see, Calvin Harris has the No.1 Single, & Paolo Nutini is still has the No.1 Album. It is the first time that 2 different Scottish Acts have simultaneously been at No.1 in both Charts. WET WET WET - The UK Double Top has been achieved by the same Scottish Act 3 times. That Scottish Act is Wet Wet Wet. 08/02/1992 (2) Wet Wet Wet - High On The Happy Side // Goodnight Girl 30/07/1994 (4) Wet Wet Wet - End Of Part One (Their Greatest Hits) // Love Is All Around 03/09/1994 (1) Wet Wet Wet - End Of Part One (Their Greatest Hits) // Love Is All Around @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Here is some Summer, (& other Seasons), UK No.1 Singles Chart Trivia for you. B) BECAUSE 'SUMMER' BY CALVIN HARRIS IS AT No.1..... 1) It is the 1,260th UK No.1 Single since Mid November 1952 2) But only the 6th No.1 to have 'Summer' in its Title. The other 5 are:, W/E 10th October 1959 - Here Comes Summer - Jerry Keller (1 Week) W/E 16th March 1963 - Summer Holiday - Cliff Richard & The Shadows (2 Weeks) W/E 6th April 1963 - Summer Holiday - Cliff Richard & The Shadows (1 Week) W/E 13th June 1970 - In The Summertime - Mungo Jerry (7 Weeks) W/E 30th September 1978 - Summer Nights - John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John (7 Weeks) W/E 9th August 2008 - All Summer Long - Kid Rock (1 Week) C) OTHER SEASONS NAMED IN UK No.1 HIT SINGLES A) Autumn - There have been Zero No.1's with 'Autumn' in their Titles. The closest was 'Autumn Almanac' - The Kinks - No.3 in 1967 B) Winter - There have been Zero No.1's with 'Winter' in their Title. The closest was 'A Winter's Tale' by David Essex - No.2 in 1982 C) Spring - There have been Zero No.1 Hits, (or even Top 10 Hits), with 'Spring' in their Titles. The closest was 'It May Be Winter Outside (But In My Heart It's Spring)' - Love Unlimited - No.11 in 1975 (Which is also a Hit with 'Winter' in the Title, of course. Love Unlimited were Barry White's Female backing vocalists). D) Seasons - There have been just 2 No.1 Hits with a reference to 'Seasons' in their Title - both were the same Song W/E 6th April 1974 - Seasons In The Sun - Terry Jacks (4 Weeks) W/E 25th December 1999 - I Have A Dream / Seasons In The Sun - Westlife (4 Weeks) @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

The Suedehead Chart Commentary
As George Michael has gone in at No.1 with 'Symphonica', & Kylie has entered at No.2 with 'Kiss Me Once', I've compiled some Lists to show where this puts both of them as regards their Top 2 Album Chart Entries in the W/E 29th March Charts. A) UK SOLO ACTS WITH THE MOST No.1 ALBUMS (To W/E 29th March 2014) (Weeks At No.1 In Brackets) 1) ROBBIE WILLIAMS - 11 (34W) 2) DAVID BOWIE - 9 (23W) 3) ROD STEWART - 8 (28W) 4)=CLIFF RICHARD - 7 (30W) 4)=ELTON JOHN - 7 (29W) 4)=GEORGE MICHAEL - 7 (16W) B) SOLO ACTS WITH THE MOST No.1 ALBUMS (To W/E 29th March 2014) (Weeks At No.1 In Brackets) 1) MADONNA - 12 (30W) 2)=ELVIS PRESLEY - 11 (63W) 2)=ROBBIE WILLIAMS - 11 (34W) 4) BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN - 10 (16W) 5)=MICHAEL JACKSON - 9 (30W) 5)=DAVID BOWIE - 9 (23W) 7) ROD STEWART - 8 (28W) 8)=CLIFF RICHARD - 7 (30W) 8)=ELTON JOHN - 7 (29W) 8)=BOB DYLAN - 7 (24W) 8)=EMINEM - 7 (24W) 8)=GEORGE MICHAEL - 7 (16W) C) FEMALE SOLO ACTS WITH THE MOST TOP 10 ALBUMS (To W/E 29th March 2014) 1) MADONNA - 20 (21 if we include the ‘Who’s That Girl’ OST - No.4 in 1987) 2) KYLIE MINOGUE - 15 3)=BARBRA STREISAND - 12 3)=MARIAH CAREY - 12 5)=KATE BUSH - 11 5)=CELINE DION - 11 7) DIANA ROSS - 10 D) FEMALE SOLO ACTS WITH THE MOST TOP 5 ALBUMS (To W/E 29th March 2014) 1) MADONNA - 18 (19 if we include the ‘Who’s That Girl’ OST - No.4 in 1987) 2) KYLIE MINOGUE - 11 3)=KATE BUSH - 10 3)=CELINE DION - 10 Anyhow - This also means that George Michael is now bnly the 3rd Solo Act to have more than 1 'Run' of 3, (or more), consecutive No.1 Albums in the UK. As you can see, Robbie Williams is the only Act, (including Groups), to manage it as many as 3 times. SOLO ACTS WITH MORE THAN 1 'RUN' OF 3 (OR MORE) CONSECUTIVE UK No.1 ALBUMS 1) ROD STEWART - 3 (1971 - 1973) ROD STEWART - 3 (1974 - 1976) 2) GEORGE MICHAEL - 4 (1987 - 1998) GEORGE MICHAEL - 3 (2004 - 2014) 3) ROBBIE WILLIAMS - 5 (1998 - 2002) ROBBIE WILLIAMS - 3 (2004 - 2006) ROBBIE WILLIAMS - 3 (2010 - 2013)

The multiple version issue
I recall the early 1990's, when, (for example), Take That would release as many as 4 versions of each Single. Each one was either a different mix, or had a different B-Side & cover. With the 4th version being on Cassette. It was clearly done to get obsessive Fans buying more than one copy of each Single. As a contrast, with earlier huge Acts, (Beatles, Rolling Stones, ABBA, Queen, Bee Gees), you had a choice of one 7" Single, & 1 B-Side. If your Fans did not like your Single, you had a smaller Hit than usual. There were no gimmicks to get multiple Sales from the same Fans.....

Queen's Greatest Hits passes 6 million!
From things that I've read at both the Daily Telegraph & Daily Mail Sites, several people seem to think that the UK Sales for 'Sgt Pepper' are vastly under-estimated. They work that out by the fact that it was released in 1967, & The BPI did not start giving out UK Sales Awards until 1973. So they have decided that its OCC estimated Sales of 5,100,000 do not include any 1967 to 1972 Sales. Therefore, they give it an extra 2 Million to 3 Million Sales for that period. And they say that makes it the UK's Biggest Selling Album, with over 7 Million to 8 Million Sales. In fact, when The OCC compiled the UK's Top 100 Best Selling Albums, (published in 2006), they estimated the UK Sales of Sgt Pepper, from 1967 onwards. They have carried on adding to their 2006 estimate ever since. So its 5.1 Million UK Sales already include its estimated 1967 to 1972 Sales. By giving it over 7 to 8 Million UK Sales, a lot of people are adding in its estimated 1967 to 1972 Sales twice..... Here is what someone at The OCC Site has said about 'Sgt Pepper', in a comment. (He calls himself Dan Gerous). Like many, he does not realise that the 'missing' Sgt Pepper Sales have already been estimated in its 5.1 Million UK Total..... "I believe that accurate sales figures were not stored before 1976. If this is the case then Sgt. Pepper is most probably the biggest selling album of all time (In fact it still is anyway - both ABBA Gold and Queen Greatest Hits are both compilation albums! - The Beatles 'Sgt. Pepper's...' is the highest selling Studio Album.) No data before 1976 is, I am assuming, explanation for the lack of massive albums from the early 70's when the LP became the dominant format (Singles in the 60's and before had the lead due to them being cheaper - It took weeks to save up for an album back in the 60's!)."

Queen's Greatest Hits passes 6 million!
The Queen Album has not sold 6 Million, (UK), as a stand-a-lone Album. It has really sold 5,374,000. The other 626,000 Sales came from a 1994 Double CD, & the 2000 Triple CD, 'The Platinum Collection'. Here is what Alan Jones said in September 2009:, (His first 6 words refer to 'Sgt Pepper', by The Beatles). "As vast as that tally is, there is one album which has sold more copies – Queen’s Greatest Hits. It is an album which was first released in 1981, cherry-picking their most successful singles, from their introductory 1974 smash Seven Seas Of Rhye to 1980’s Flash. Released on October 26 1981, it debuted at number two behind Shakin’ Stevens’ Shaky album, and started a four-week run at number one the following week. It sold enough copies in the final few weeks of 1981 to finish second to Adam & The Ants’ Kings Of The Wild Frontier in the annual rankings, and has continued to sell at an impressive rate ever since. In 1994, it was issued in a slipcase with Greatest Hits II and in 2000 with Greatest Hits II and Greatest Hits III. As these packages contain the original albums, the decision was made, right or wrong, to share out the sales pro rata. As Greatest Hits I, II and III together have sold 1,680,000, individual tallies for all three have been allocated an extra 560,000 sales. By the same token, Greatest Hits I and II’s combined sales of 132,000 have been split, with an extra 66,000 being added to each. Taking all this into consideration, Greatest Hits has sold a massive 5,780,000 copies. Greatest Hits II, eighth on the list, has sold 3,840,000 copies".

Vote For ABBA's Japanese Album Tracks
Universal in Japan are releasing an ABBA Compilation called '40/40'. It will have 40 Tracks & is for the 40th Anniversary of ABBA's 1974 ESC Win. The 'gimmick' is that they want 'The Fans' to Vote for the Track List. I'm not sure if it will be released outside Japan, but Fans from other Countries can certainly Vote for the Tracks:, Link:, http://www.universal-music.co.jp/abba/news...0_40_selection/

The Suedehead Chart Commentary
As 'High Hopes' by Bruce Springsteen is at No.1 I've prepared these 2 Chart Lists. ROLLING STONES - They have 11 No.1 Albums, if you count the 'Exile On Main St' that went to No.1 in 2010, as being a different Album to their 1972 No.1 Album. I regard it as being a 'Deluxe' version of the 1972 Album, so I regard it as a return to No.1 rather than their 11th No.1 Album. The Book of British Hit Singles returns
So, Leona Lewis has the most Top 5 Singles, (for a British/UK Solo Female), since November 1952 - 8. She does not, if you go back to January 1940. Counting each Top 5 Hit once, (even if it was Top 5 as a Re-Entry), Vera Lynn has 27, including 7 No.1's. Only one of the Top 5 Hits was since November 1952 - 'My Son, My Son', which was No.1 in 1954. Anne Shelton has 9 - only 1 of which was since November 1952 - 'Lay Down Your Arms' - a No.1 Hit for her in 1956.

Pentatonix - An Excellent Vocal Group
PENTATONIX I think they are the best 'Pop' vocal Group that I've ever seen. Here is a brief Biog:, Pentatonix is an American acapella group of five vocalists, Scott Hoying, Kirstie Maldonado, Mitch Grassi, Avi Kaplan and Kevin Olusola, originating from Arlington, Texas. The group won the 2011 series of 'The Sing Off', in the USA. Mitch, (short black hair), & Scott, (tall blond guy), are openly Gay. THE LITTLE DRUMMER BOY - PENTATONIX Originally a 1941 Song, ('The Carol Of The Drum'), made famous as 'The Little Drummer Boy', by The Harry Simeone Chorale, in 1958. I thought that no-one to better the 1958 version - this Group have. It is currently a big USA Hit. But, Pentatonix are not known in the UK. It has almost 20.5 Million views in just 3 Weeks. The harmonies in it just get more & more complex.....They rise to new heights after the 'Then he smiled at me...' line. So up-lifting. LINK:, CAROL OF THE BELLS - PENTATONIX This is based on a 1916 Ukrainian Song. It was introduced to 'The West' as 'Carol Of The Bells' in the 1940's. Pentatonix use such unbelievable harmonies in it, that many think that they are using electronic trickery. But they aren't - it is all their vocals. It comes from hours & hours of practice. It is like their voices are 3 Dimensional in this. LINK;, THE EVOLUTION OF MUSIC - PENTATONIX In which they start off 100's of Years ago, in a Medley that goes through the 1920's, right up until now. And I found myself wanting them to perform all of many of the Hits - like 'I Want To Hold Your Hand', for example. They make it all look so effortless. AND THEIR VERSIONS OF 2 GLOBAL HITS - RECENT UK No.1's SOMEBODY THAT I USED TO KNOW (The Gotye Feat. Kimbra Hit) ROYALS (The Lorde Hit)

Leona Lewis sets new Official Singles Chart record!
Yesterday The OCC told me that they could not get 7 Top 5 Hits for Olivia. They got 6. They asked me if I was counting 'You're The One That I Want' twice - I was. They were not. They obviously changed their minds when they wrote the Article. It still means that she has only had 2 truly Solo Top 5 Hits.
-
Leona Lewis sets new Official Singles Chart record!
Regarding Olivia Newton-John - The OCC are not counting the 1998 Re-Issue, (No.4), of 'You're The One That I Want', as one of her Top 5 Hits. They count it in 1978 only. If we only count a Solo Female's completely Solo Hits, then Olivia has only had 2 of those. Jessie J has had 6 Top 5 Hits, but only 3 were completely Solo. Emeli Sande has had 6, but 2 were collaborations. Although Leona's 8 Top 5 Hits is a UK Solo Female Chart Record, if we take the Charts back to 1940, then Anne Shelton had 7 Top 5 Hits by October 1952, & a 1956 No.1 Hit. So she has had 8. Vera Lynn's only had 1 Top 5 Hit, since November 1952 - a 1954 No.1. But, between January 1940 & October 1952 she had 26 Top 5 Hits - 6 of them at No.1. So she has had 27 Top 5 Hits, & 7 of them were No.1's.

The Suedehead Chart Commentary
As with all Chart Records, it is a matter of what to count & not count, that decides the Facts & Feats. The OCC do not count re-issued Hits, as extra Top 5, or Top 10 Hits. Some people count Remixes as a new Hit. Others see them as a slightly different version of an old Hit, & do not count it as a new one. As a result of people looking at things in different ways, I keep 2 'Sets' of many of my Lists. One 'Set' adds Cliff Richard & The Shadows Hits to those of The Shadows. So they do very well in those Lists. The 2nd Set has only Cliff getting credited with Cliff & The Shadows Singles & Albums. The Shadows get only Hits by The Shadows. They do not do anywhere near as well in those 2nd Lists. There is always opposing views on these matters. But, it matters not - we are all free to decide what we think is 'right', & make our own statistics, if we like.

The Suedehead Chart Commentary
Fchd - thanks for your observations. Suedehead2 - I found this British Females in the Top 5 'Trivia' to be a nightmare. I first started work on it at 1pm today, & I made mistake after mistake, & omission after omission. I don't know why it was so hard for me to do. I've re-written parts of my initial Post on the matter.

The Suedehead Chart Commentary
LEONA LEWIS Leona is now the British Female Soloist with the most Top 5 Hits. Her 8 takes the record. Only 3 other British Female 'Solo' Singers have even 7. Dusty Springfield, but only 4 were Solo. 2 were with The Springfields, & 1 was with the Pet Shop Boys. Olivia Newton-John - She is not Australian, she was born in Cambridge.. But, you have to count her 4 Top 5 Hits with John Travolta, & 1 with ELO, to get 7 for her. So she's only really had 2 Solo Top Hits. HOWEVER - If you count Dusty's 2 Top 5 Hits with The Springfields, then you would also have to add the Spice Girls 10 Top 5 Hits to Geri Halliwell's 6. So, I guess Dusty is really on 5. These UK Females have had 6 Top 5 Hits each - Petula Clark, Shirley Bassey, Cilla Black, Louise, Geri Halliwell, Cheryl Cole, & Ellie Goulding. Billie Piper has had 7 Top 5 Hits, but one was a multi Artist collaboration, so she's had 6 Solo. Although Jessie J & Emeli Sande have each had 6 Top 5 Hits, 3 of Jessie's were collaborations, & 2 of Emeli's were. VERA LYNN - Of course, if we take the Singles Chart from November 1952 to January 1940, then Vera Lynn has far more Top 5 Hits than any other UK Female Soloist - but, The OCC still starts the Singles Chart in November 1952. Vera Lynn has only had 1 Top 5 Hit since 1952 - a 1954 No.1. But, if we go back to 1940, she's had by far the most Top 5 Hits by a British woman - 27. Seven of them were No.1 Hits. Anne Shelton's had 1 Top 5 Hit since November 1952 - a 1956 No.1. But, she had 7 Top 5 Hits before then, so she's had 8.

The Suedehead Chart Commentary
I compile a List of the Acts with the most No.1 Weeks in the UK Charts. It can be any combination of Singles No.1 Weeks & Albums No.1 Weeks. The List shows which Acts really dominated the Charts - rather than just the ones that get the most Media Hype. My List consists of 188 Acts, & an Act needs at least 8 No.1 Weeks to make the List. So 188 Acts have managed it. Despite all the hype, One Direction have yet to make the List. They have had 4 No.1 Weeks from 4 No.1 Singles, & 3 No.1 Weeks from 2 No.1 Albums. That's adding in their 2011, (credited No.1), with the 2011 X Factor Finalists. If you don't add that in, One Direction have spent 6 Weeks at No.1 in the UK. If an Act reaches 8 No.1 Weeks they add to the 23 Acts who have exactly 8 Weeks at No.1. The 23 Acts are 166= in my List..... As a contrast, by getting back to No.1 in the UK Album Chart, Robbie Williams reaches 32 No.1 Weeks in that Chart. Added to his 11 Singles Chart No.1 Weeks, it gives him 43 No.1 Weeks. This enables him to rise above Queen, to 11th= place in the All Time List. He is 11th= with Simon & Garfunkel, who get their 43 No.1 Weeks from 3 Weeks in the Singles Chart, & 40 Weeks in the Albums Chart. (Queen are 13th - 42 No.1 Weeks. 21 No.1 Weeks in both the Singles & Albums Charts).

The Battle for the 1,000th Official #1 Album
Here are the Best Selling Compilations, by Year, in the UK. (Although the List does count Film Soundtracks as Compilations). LINK:, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-..._United_Kingdom I think that Multi Artist Compilations really took off in 1972. The Top 2 Best Sellers of the Year were Compilations, & there were 4 in the Top 10 of the Year. 20 Dynamic Hits was 1st, 20 All Time Hits Of The 50's was 2nd, 20 Fantastic Hits was 5th, & 25 Rockin' And Rollin' Greats was 9th. In 1973 the That'll Be The Day Soundtrack went in at No.2. Then it climbed to No.1 for 7 Weeks, & then it was removed from the Chart, (from No.1!), because it was being advertised on TV, & new Chart Rules banned such Albums from the Chart. By coincidence, today is the 30th Anniversary of the Now.... Albums being launched. The BBC have done an Article about it:, LINK:, http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-magazine-monitor-25109482 In late 1974, early 1975, 40 Greatest Hits, by Elvis Presley, was No.1 for several Weeks in the UK. This was shown in the Record Mirror Charts at that time. But, it was removed from Chart History, when TV advertised Albums were banned from the Charts. Greatest Hits, by Elton John, was given those No.1 Weeks. The Elvis Album had to wait until September 1977 to be given an Official No.1 Position again.....

Todays Sun has done a double page Article about the No.1 Albums. There are quite a few errors. They use a photo of Gold to illustrate ABBA's 1976 Greatest Hits Album. (The 2 Albums only have 4 Songs in common - Waterloo, SOS, Mamma Mia, & Fernando). They say that ABBA had 57 No.1 Albums - when they mean 57 Weeks at No.1. And that Never Forever by Kate Bush, (September 1980), was the first No.1 Album by a Female Soloist. In fact, Kate was the first UK Solo Female to have a No.1 Album. Connie Francis had a No.1, (20 All Time Greats), in August 1977. (Barbra Streisand was No.1 with a Star Is Born, earlier in 1977, but she did not sing everything on that Film Soundtrack). The Guardian has done an Article about the 1,000 Number Albums. The writer(s) claims that of 4 Beatles only George Harrison had a UK No.1 Album after that Group split. In fact Paul McCartney had 7 - 4 Solo, 2 with Wings, & 1 with Linda. John Lennon had 3. Only Ringo had none at all. His 2 biggest Albums both Peaked at No.7. The writer(s) also says that the Beach Boys never had any UK No.1 Albums. They did. One in 1976, & one in 1983..... LINK:, http://goo.gl/c3V8QI

The Book of British Hit Singles returns
ChartManiac - I've not included W/B 24th December 1945 because that was not a 'missing' No.1 Week for White Christmas. White Christmas was at No.2 on W/B 17th December 1945. That means it was still at No.2 in the 'missing' Week of W/B 24th December. You Belong To My Heart, (again by Bing Crosby), was No.1 on W/B 17th December, so it is that which gets an 'extra' No.1 Week on W/B 24th December. Giving it a 4th Week at No.1. White Christmas did not reach No.1 until W/B 31st December in 1945. It was one of about 17 times, that Bing replaced himself at No.1, between February 1940 & December 1946.
