  1. Not me landing in the super pop semi with experimental Guatemalan cello. Hopefully it has some appeal 🤞
  2. Hyped to kick off the semi! Summer Rain was confirmed all the way back in the 9th contest when entry changes were public and then nobody ever sent it in the end I don’t think. It’s a Clubland classic so hope it gets some appreciation! I’m familiar with Moviestar and the song by my former entrant Jude York but don’t know too many here! Really surprised nobody entered anything by Grace!!
  3. 1BF is always different because none of the ‘weaker’ or very niche songs get weeded out so you get some low scorers in the final. And ofc you get songs of the same style splitting the vote between them more than usual as the competition isn’t pared back in the semis. It certainly would be interesting to see it again, although I wouldn’t want it every month.
  4. Switched my vote to semis as it does make the contest more exciting and allows growers to build hype (will many people just listen the once if it's 1BF?) but I do see the arguments for both. And I'd like to see Phil's semis concept.
  5. An extremely dull song that Rod Stewart in the 90s would have turned his nose up at. It would be rock bottom for me actually, I strongly dislike it, a really dull plod. The only thing of interest is Nicky shaving his hair off in the video for some reason.
  6. I don't really mind either way. My song will be relying on not being in a semi with a ton of pop voters so I voted for 1BF, but semis add to the drama/hype each month I guess so it doesn't bother me.
  7. Gosh, 48 is low, although it's summer holiday season. What are the numbers to revert to One Big Final again? Or will it just be a smaller final in this case with fewer qualifiers than normal? I expected to see Super Love Me in the veto list but maybe nobody tried it (or another Grace album track has been sent instead). I've not heard the three songs that were vetoed but will listen to them!
  8. A few more bits out today, albeit it's slim pickings for albums. But gives me a chance to catch up on releases I've missed from the past few weeks. Metro Boomin — A Futuristic Summa (album) $uicideboy$ — Thy Kingdom Come (album) Saweetie — HELLA PRESSURE (EP) Yeat — Dangerous Summer (EP)
  9. What a beautiful track, I agree with the comparisons. The outro especially is very Talk On Corners/Jagged Little Pill, and that final note is perfect. I guess beabadoobee is the most obvious modern reference point in terms of production. It has a timeless (kind of Roxette-esque) melody, great vocals, lovely production, I hope the public take to it! Definitely here for a big ballad hit for Chappell (or really any ballad hit that isn’t by a male troubadour).
  10. It’s Dr Dre for me. I have no memory of this song and it hasn’t stuck in my memory having listened to it three times in the last week.
  11. I like all three about the same. Gone for Good Charlotte as I probably would more likely choose to play the other two.
  12. Staying with Blink.
  13. Nothing more to add on Bob really, quite pointless to cover a song that was only two years old and probably in my bottom three No.1s of the year too. Big Fish Little Fish is far more entertaining and didn’t chart at all! Still, to get two chart singles and both being No.1 is quite a cool record to have.
  14. I'd also have that near the bottom. Everything about it is ok as far as covers go but I far prefer the follow up, Scream If You Wanna Go Faster.
  15. I get why it did so well, I was a 14-year-old boy at the time, and while it wasn't my cup of tea, my classmates were obsessed with it, it went very viral in the way things could back then. It's a simple singalong too which helps. I would rank it in my bottom five I think although one to come is definitely bottom by a mile.
  16. Moslty brilliant songs, of course, but what kind of 60s soul fan won't already own these five times over? Pass.

Despacito (I know it's overplayed and his contribution wasn't exactly the memorable part of the song, but I do love this) Sorry (brilliant track) What Do You Mean (ditto) Love Yourself (pretty good, and a classic - such a strong era) Cold Water (it's fine) I Don't Care (it's crap by both Ed and Justin's standards but is naggingly catchy) Daisies (going to need to get into this one but it doesn't feel like anything remarkable to me) I'm The One (just crap really)
  18. Great to pass the baton on to Wardy for a memorable and pivotal year. Intrigued to see what order they end up in, and it's probably lucky I'm not doing this one for how inexplicably high I'd put Eternal Flame and The Way To Your Love!

It's very dated and generic, kind of enjoyable up to a point but the sort of thing that I hear once in a Eurovision national final and never play again. It's nice to have a simple pop track not chasing any current trends doing well I guess. But I guess give any song the exposure of a huge viral Netflix film and it stands a good chance of taking off regardless of how it sounds, just due to how many people are exposed to it.
  20. Eh. We Are The People is a beauty. Going with Blink again.
  21. Agreed - good track but Kanye.
  22. Lee Mead as it’s karaoke (although I actually love the Jason Donovan version 😂)
  23. Good BBC article about the show and its legacy on reality TV here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cn86892w986o
  24. Thanks Wardy, very entertaining idea and I've heard lots of great (and some hilariously bad) covers I didn't know existed.
  25. Well done on getting to 100 Andrew, it's been great to follow this along and a fitting finish with The Beatles and ABBA. Never thought I'd hear a big band version of Waterloo. Giving it to Andreas just for changing things up but would have voted Slipping Through My Fingers from Mamma Mia, that was a sensational and emotional performance from Meryl and Amanda Seyfried.
