We need to start being more inspired I fear. -- I've gone retro with a song that I think is pretty well known in one country in a cult kind of way but nowhere else, and certainly not in the UK.

Surprised Devour is so far behind Luna, thought the former sounded like a gold plated smash!

Utterly bizarre to do this in the dying hours of Thursday when it was there very easily for the taking all week, guess the label got yesterday's figures in and panicked. As I said earlier in the week though, no way they were going to sit back and do nothing, just odd it took this long. It's a shame for me because I agree that Dai Dai is unlikely to get another chance, the World Cup is becoming more of a memory each day. It's done very well to hold up as it has but I can't see it doing so for ages.

Madonna. Lovely production on this song but I'm less enamoured by the melody/chorus.

I didn’t actually know that they sampled the same track until just now. Interesting that two songs released within 12 months by very different acts decided to sample that though.

Nice enough yeah. I really liked Gabrielle Aplin and bought the album this came from which was very pleasant too. Her voice sounds lovely in the middle eight. I was never into Heatwave much or really much solo output from Wiley, despite liking most of what he did with Roll Deep. The chorus on this could be stronger for me really.

Shakira, Robyn and Natasha top 40. Artists so good that they succeeded through all of the physical, download and streaming eras ❤️ Willing Dai Dai to stay at No.1 but also surprised Sam and his team aren’t putting up more of a fight here? Maybe the Lewis duet version has some legal reason it can’t be released to download (his label didn’t approve it?), but why is Sam not armed at this point with remixes ready to go or the instrumental or something? Anything? I still wouldn’t be surprised to see him take it though as Shakira’s team don’t seem to be doing anything.

I used minidisc at the time too, to record tracks off the radio and split them up so it was more like listening to a CD than a tape. -- I was always quite fond of Go Let It Out, actually I like it far more than D'you Know What I Mean and I'd have rather heard it on their reuinon tour than that, but it wasn't on the setlist as isn't considered one of their classics. The drum pattern at the start is exactly the same as Roxette's Wish I Could Fly from a year earlier.

Take That seemed pretty unstoppable in the mid 90s, yet album sales wise they bettered those highs in the 00s with three consecutive studio albums that were all gigantic. Also Dido’s Life For Rent more or less matched the sales of No Angel, which I wouldn’t have expected at all. Usual rule of thumb is the second album has a far bigger opening week due to pent up hype and then quickly drops off to a far lower total.

Voted! Some of it got a little samey especially in the second half, but a few nice discoveries and I'm very fond of my top three in particular, hope my 12 does well as it really stood out to me.

5,6,7,8 is my pick too, a line dance novelty being their most played song when they have released some of the best pure pop songs of the last 30 years. I heard Deeper Shade of Blue in McDonald's the other day. It's very rare to hear their songs out in the wild away from the obvious couple so that was fun.

It's kind of laughable, although I saw it coming as soon as Ian was sentenced. Every time I see Gray, I think of the new Gracie Abrams album cover, is it just me???!!

I feel like just a qualifer and joining in with the final would be a novelty at this point. 5th last year to 55th YTD so far is quite the fall from grace. I will definitely not send pop though as it keeps tripping me up this year.

Devour is great, that riff production reminds me of Hello by Stafford Brothers/Christina Milian. Another top five for Rêve surely. I voted for that. However, the other two are really strong too. Mae's best song in a few releases and has a strong top ten shot, and LUNA's I'm sure would be another top ten.

Time for Sam's label to make this remix official, get revellers dancing, and bag another 10 weeks at No.1.

If you are about to break the record for the longest running No.1 ever, and at the midweek stage you are only about 100 copies adrift of your only challenger (with Ariana on the horizon next week so it could be your last chance), I don't think you are going to let that opportunity go. It will be very easy for Sam's label to find some physicals, send out begging emails to fans or release the Capaldi duet version. I just can't see Shakira or her team actively doing anything to make this into a proper battle, so I think Rein Me In has it.

Glad you didn't place this rock bottom, this is another I bought on CD at the time, not just to support the worthy cause but because I enjoy the version. Some very good vocal performances on it by some great singers, and I've always just generally loved He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother. A very warm cover of the song, it's a shame it's not on Spotify actually as every now and then it's a nice one to listen to.

No One Lasts Forever is the one that really hit me outside the singles. Lyrically just makes you reflect, and that outro really is so effective, I'm sure the vinyl outro even moreso where it doesn't end. I've downloaded the b-sides version even though I bought the CD too. iTunes getting more action than it has in a while after I downloaded Dai Dai yesterday to help Shakira's quest for No.1 😂 Liking the whole album a lot though, definitely a lot to go back to and unpack on this.

I definitely knew Twilight was the forgotten song you were talking about, as objectively it was more or less forgotten as soon as it had disappeared from the chart, and was a surprise No.1 to begin with, helped along by mass airplay from the likes of Capital iirc. But it's also by far my favourite to drop out so far and one I bought at the time, I just find it so beautiful melodically and vocally, with lovely production similar to some of Rihanna and Keri Hilson's material at the time. So it was probably already dated sounding by about three years when it surfaced, but it is just so charming. The bridge is my favourite part, the vocal is so warm there and the chords I just love where it goes 'and you know I love to be in control...'. I didn't care for any of their other singles at all, but this was a delightful surprise chart topper, I still listen to it a lot now. No disagreements about any of the others - Ne-Yo - agreed it's autopilot and the chorus is too clunky lyrically; One Direction quite sweet musically but extremely naff lyrics throughout, some of Ed's worst; and Rita's is just '2012 generic party song #23'. Melodic and catchy but ultimately one of those uninspiring songs that wouldn't have existed any other time but that 2011-2012 period so she's like another Pixie Lott/JLS/Taio Cruz empty vessel of releasing whatever music was the 'in sound' at the time for an easy hit.

A definite Justice feel to this, really liking it.
