Boys & Girls was one of my very early BJSC entries in September 2008, finishing third. I didn't expect Pixie to take off commercially though, let alone for this song to become a No.1 hit a year later. The original (demo I guess) I sent is more in keeping with the soul pop sound that dominated 2008, but I can see why they made it more sparkly and poppy for the UK release, as the soul pop vibe was fading out a bit by 2009. I still like the track though, moreso than Mama Do as well, but most of her stuff has aged quite poorly overall and is in keeping with the pop production of the time.

This was my vote, with the (many) commiserations.

Ooh, we got the top three correct! Just 2nd and 3rd the wrong way round, but congrats Dandy*, sounded like the winner the first time I heard it. I know spoken word hasn't really won a lot (apart from Nabihah Iqbal?) but this was so unique that it just had to. Well done Jonjo and Phil, the rest of the board is very close together! The pop bloc did make its presence felt in the end (voting later than usual? they usually dictate the front half of the voting). Delighted that Greenfroze held onto a top five place, that is a wonderful result for such a unique entry. I voted for all of the top five too. I'm really happy with 18th, had no real expectations of qualifying, especially after a trio of DNQ predix, so to then come top 20 with a couple of gold medals is great. Thanks for hosting Qween, very slick and efficient and lovely looking presentation.

I think FLJ would have won comfortably anyway but those opening odds really drew immediate attention its way, and obviously quick hype from people jumping to its defence. Maybe without that it wouldn't have been discussed until the listenthrough, and then wouldn't have the redemption arc behind it either. No such thing as bad publicity! 😂

Growing from 3 points in the semi to 15 in the final, Cheiron’s apparently marmite entry was a big hit for us and gets a silver, while we welcome Mothertopia to the all-time leaderboard as they become the 177th country to receive Rontvian points in a final, and 13 of them at that for horsegiirL – not bad for a first haul! Greenfroze climb the top 20 after scoring 12 points for a wonderful piece, while a fun entry from Cor Lupus gives them 11 points as they move from 8th to 6th in the all-time chart. Top three nations, leader République d'Áskorza and third placed Aeroche are the only others in our all-time top ten to score this month, receiving 2 and 3 points respectively.

Thanks Juranamo. I'm certainly noticing patterns that where somebody has predicted a song to do very badly against the tide (or much worse than others have), it then wasn't in their votes. Which does show how personal taste affects predictions. This works the other way round too, when a song gets one big prediction out of the blue, you'll often find it in that predictor's vote in the end.

If I was able to spread my total 124 points out as I wished then Fljótavik would have had about 80 of them. Thank you Dandy for sending! And Scene’s song was stuck in my head all week, growing from 3 in the semi. The instrumentation is amazing. Thanks Jonjo for the points too.
