The Wanted 'Heart Vacancy" and Debut Album
What a sad world we live in, where anyone can get to #1 with a promise to flash their balls. This song is good, but it is by no means a #1 single, just like 'All Time Low', which is more of a... #11. Based on quality alone, 'Heart Vacancy' should hit #8, and no higher. But it most likely will because of their naked photoshoot promise (which is if their album gets to #1, not 'Heart Vacancy'). Roll on Olly Murs' #1 album...

James Blunt "Stay The Night"
Unfortunately, it is released in a week with a lot of competition... it goes up against 'Shame' and 'Just The Way You Are'... I predioct they'll both be duelling for #1, leaving Mr. Blunt for a Top 10 placing should he get good promotion. And Paolo Nutini is the anti-christ. He is a cock-end.

Diana Vickers - My Wicked Heart
Considering 'Insatiable's biggest hook is "Like woah", it's p*** poor. I could write that. I could probably sing it too. Poor, poor Nadine... how does it feel to have Diana walk all up and down your ass before you've even released!?

Alexandra Burke 'Start Without You' [1st/next single]
Not this.

MTV Video Music Awards 2010
'Dog Days Are Over' is #8 on US iTunes. 'Lungs' is #2 on the US Albums Chart. She may have just split America in two.

Diana Vickers - My Wicked Heart
'Insaitable' is awful. I wanted something good. I waited for that? And special mention for idiocy goes out the a 'The Sun' newspaper reporter who claimed it sounded like The Bangles... okay now, sit down and have a cookie before you pass out ite? I'ma go laugh over there, feel free to join me.

Diana Vickers - My Wicked Heart
THAT. IS. TRAGIC. If anyone has seen Diana's missing arm chunk then please do not hesitate to call the girl herself, I hear she desperately wants her arm chunk back.

Can someone post a video of 'Lose Control' please, if there is one?

James Blunt "Stay The Night"
Oh thanks for reminding me about that song, 'Goodbye, My Lover' is brilliant. And yeah I've never understood the hatred for him; as a person, he is hilarious.

James Blunt "Stay The Night"
Okay, here's where I stand: 'You're Beautiful' is one of those songs that never deserved the airplay it got. BUT, it DID deserve it's #1 status and it being one of the best-selling singles of the year. The fact it was overplayed detracted from it's appeal greatly, and by the end of that year I was willing to pull mine and anyone else who listened to it's hair out, in a bid to turn it off whenever it came on. Last year, in an art lesson, we used this song for inspiration for one of our topics (teacher's choice) and I could not believe how welcome it was to my ears, we must've listened to it five times in a row and I could've listened to it even more had I had the chance. Since then, 'High' was a bit naff, 'Wisemen' was his best yet, and '1973' came close, everything else he'd done was rubbish. Then, yesterday I discovered 'Stay The Night', and it's already my most played song in my iPod. It's such a warming tune, something that his other singles tried to do but failed, instead they succeeded in other areas like commerical appeal. This song is a proper summer song, none of that electronic 'Californa Gurls' $h!t I've had to endure. I like the fact he's gone for a song with a lot more body; it's not as wishy washy as his past efforts yet it manages to stamp his flair all over it. I'm in love with this song right now. P.S. PAOLO NUTINI!? Paolo WHO? That over-rated talent-vacuum makes my skin crawl.

The Script 'For The First Time' · 'Science & Faith'
Hmm.. a bit naff, I thought...

The Wanted 'Heart Vacancy" and Debut Album
I do actually like it, it follows the same pattern as 'All Time Low' in that it's lyrics have far more depth than anything JLS spew out. And it doesn't sound anything like a 90's boyband record to me: the electronic, distorted violin over the prepared piano (look it up) hasn't ever been done before in mainstream. And I love how... 'plodding' the beat is; like it's never going to stop. It's almost as if it's dragging it's feet through the production, only it's not at all a bad thing.

Hurts - Happiness
I must admit I was also taken aback at how consistantly dark the theme was, there's really only two lighter song ('Better Than Love' and 'Sunday') and they're strategically placed throughout the album to counter the darker, disco lento tracks. Currently I'm loving the whole thing but the tracks that, if rated by me, would be amazing enough to get a 6th star are: 'Sunday', 'Better Than Love', and 'Evelyn'.

'Teenage Dream' • Second Album Discussion
'Firework', 'The One That Got Away', and 'Pearl' are the best tracks on the album, everything else is mediocre, execpt for 'Peacock', which is plain $h!t.

Hurts - Happiness
HURTS, as we all know, are very much on the rise with the revival on 80's-styled synth-pop but, claiming they're more influenced by an early-90's italian genre called "Disco lento" (literally translating to "slow disco"), it's clear there's more than meets the eye (and a lot actually does meet the eye, for they consider their image as vital as their music). Anyhoo, we've all heard the Pet Shop Boys/Soft Cell-esque 'Better Than Love', and the darker, haunting 'Wonderful Life', plus of course the free non-album track 'Happiness', so what do we think the album will be like? Only a few days before it's released in the UK and with pre-sales figures looking promising, there's a chance they'll go Top 5 with their début effort. If you scour YouTube you may even find the beautifully poignant 'Blood, Tears & Gold'. Of course, the album did leak, but all ways of finding it have been plugged now, but not before I got my hands on it :D and SOZ you can't have it. Tracklisting: 01. 'Silver Lining' 02. 'Wonderful Life' 03. 'Blood, Tears & Gold' 04. 'Sunday' 05. 'Stay' (you can find a live version in the MTV sessions of YouTube) 06. 'Illuminated' (live version also available on YouTube) 07. 'Evelyn' (the DRUMS!) 08. 'Better Than Love' 09. 'Devotion' (duet with Kylie Mingoue) 10. 'Unspoken' 11. 'The Water' (includes hidden track 'Verona') Discuss what you like, what you don't like, about the Mancunian duo here. And if you find a leak, keep it to yourself.

Up to the Top 10 now, nice to see 'Drummer Boy' doing the damage at the top of the charts too. Alexandra has fallen a spot to #5.

Scissor Sisters - 'Any Which Way'
The edit is actually a really good one, and the video is awesome too. It's great to have the Scissor Sisters back at their innuendo-charged best.

The Wanted - All Time Low
Same thing really. Either way it was written by Ed Drewett and bought by The Wanted/Geffen. It's a little obvious he didn't just say "Here you go".

All the songs featured in the poll MUST have charted within the UK Top 40 to even get a look in. Only one song per artist can feature in the poll. If an artist has released two songs between the designated dates, the highest charting of the two will automatically have priority. Only singles which have received an official UK release will qualify. No tracks from a leaked album will be taken into account. If a track has a release date announced after August 17th, yet has managed to peak in the UK Top 40 early, it will be ignored as it will not have received it's offical release before the closing date previously stated. Please do not feel you have to be biased towards your favourite artists should they appear in the poll. Please vote solely on the single and how well it encapsulates the summer vibe. The poll will open on the 21st August, 2010, and close exactly two weeks later, on 6th September, 2010. I do apologise if a sounded a little hostile in this post and so I'd just like to say I'm actually quite nice, so what are you waiting for? (a better cliché obviously). :P

'Teenage Dream' • Second Album Discussion
No Jark I am not crazy. 'Who Am I Living For?' is not the new greatest things she's ever done. It's not mesmerising. The whole album is not spectacular. There's more than one complete filler on the album and yes 'Peacock' is one of them. The rest is not the tits. Production is only good on the songs that shine out. Definitely not the new greatest popstar of the decade right here. Take a minute to think how arrogant I sound in the paragraph above. Well you sounded arrogant to me so I just retaliated similarly: no evidence, just opinion as fact. Now think about how everything I said in that first paragraph can actually be completely true: music is completely subjective Jark, and that was my opinioin, but I don't go around preaching like it's God's will. My point is, in my opinion, there's not one outstanding track on the album after 'Teenage Dream' and 'Firework', 'Hummingbird Heartbeat' and 'The One That Got Away' come close, and they'd both make great singles Slowpoke, but everything else could've been written by a five year old ("I wanna see you peacock-cock-cock") or is just incredibly dull and has nothing besides Katy's voice going for it ('Who Am I Living For?') The album has it's plus points, as does each song, but only rarely do all the plus points needed for a good pop song come together in one song: what some songs succeed in, others fail in; hooks; emotion; catchiness etc, etc. Only few songs have it all. I'm in agreement with J-o-e to some extent, nothing really jumps out and says "Don't change the track! Listen to me in full!" except for tracks 1 and 4. So don't call me crazy, although I could be really arrogant now and say I'd expect it from you as your obviously a fan of Christina. And to conclude... I'd rather go and download track 1 and 4 singularly rather than buy the whole album, and that's the test of a good album for me - whether I'll download the whole thing. The only album I've downloaded wholly in the past two years is the quite frankly AMAZING (in SO many ways) 'The Illusion Of Safety' by The Hoosiers. Now THAT was an album that I was glad to see didn't leak. It's got ten or more outstanding songs, compared to Katy's two. Well done everybody.
