However you cannot simply play a song that many times in one day to give it one sale, you are limited to 10 plays per day in terms of what counts to the chart. Is it being promoted on a major curated playlist, and/or going viral on TikTok? If it isn't, it's unlikely to really take off! Hot Hits UK is the biggest of these playlists on Spotify from a UK standpoint. The playlist usually updates itself to include breaking hits once or twice a week, though there is no guarantee that your fave will get a place on the playlist. Also, the UK Top 50 is a largely followed playlist and that songs often experience a 'top 50 effect', when they enter the top 50 and get the additional exposure of being on the playlist. Often sales hits don't cross over to being streaming hits, this is usually the case for songs with an older target audience, reality or campaign songs. Also keep in mind that it often takes longer for a song to take off on Spotify than it would on iTunes. My fave didn't debut high and is falling already, does this mean they're flopping? Not necessarily. Most songs debut relatively low as they aren't instantly well-known, and experience a sharp decline on Day 2 as they no longer have the promoted 'New Music Friday' effect. #02 Klangphonics - Ghost (Find Me Again) (feat. [52 weeks {65+ total}] What a journey this song has had, I think in all my time of doing these EOY charts this is the only song that spent all 52 weeks of the tracking period in the weekly top 100. Alas, it's not quite enough for #1 of the year. Released shortly into the run-up to their second album release, though first since I discovered them, it hit #1 and was a BJSC entry of mine towards the end of 2024. Klangphonics are a German techno trio who are fairly unique in the genre for the use of real instruments in their songs and live performances. Indeed, I did see them live during the year which further extended the run this song had in the upper region of the chart. It just refuses to get old because well, what a masterclass of a song it is! Featuring a lovely vocal and additional backing vocal textures, it also gradually builds into a club-ready EDM drop, so it's a song that has it all for me and cemented Klangphonics as one of the most interesting acts in the genre. #01 The Yagas - The Crying Room {13-8-8-2}-2-2-1-1-1-1-1-1-3-1-2-6-8-10-13-17-21-18-20-12-16-20-22-29-32-37-40-52-50-53-51-68-84-84-98-91-99-87-76-71-70-88-70-81-77-70-98-96-x-61-69-... [50 weeks {54+ total}] However, this year makes history in the Daan's hot hits year-end chart. It is congratulations to The Yagas who have the year's biggest song and the first EVER rock song to achieve this accolade, with what was amazingly only their DEBUT single in 'The Crying Room'. Whilst the band were not established before this, their frontwoman Vera Farmiga had already made a name for herself as an actress most famous for starring in The Conjuring (a series of films I have never seen). The band's music is a mix of metal and gothic rock with synthesised elements. This song in particularly has a brilliant instrumental lead-in before further slowly building before we get to hear the full extent of Vera's power vocals and then the final payoff of an epic breakdown section which really does feel like an emotional breakdown - one to let everything out to. A truly outstanding piece that was a very fortunate YouTube algorithm find shortly after its release at the back end of 2024, later a BJSC hit and now, the #1 song of 2025.

I'll look into them, I don't recall the BJSC one without listening to it. Certainly agreed for Blessings, Calvin didn't make it to my 2024 year-end top 100 as he had an unusually poor year for releases. 2023 'Miracle' was EOY #2 like I said, and 'Desire' was EOY #44. Even 2025 for him was quite hit and miss, Smoke the Pain Away was certainly an odd single choice.

yeah a shame I eventually went to see if Argo had any other great tunes but nothing. I didn't want to drop the bombshell in the BJSC thread and create drama as there's no way of telling for sure, in any case I have kept 'Korku' on my playlist

[36+ weeks] Polo & Pan are a French electronic duo who had seen some minor success on my chart however this was the clear standout of their work for me, much assisted by Beth Ditto of Gossip providing the vocal however all the twinkly bits in the production really add to the vibe. A song made for an outer space adventure perhaps. The song was also a much successful BJSC pick! #04 LSR/City [Gareth Emery and Annabel] - Without U {14-10-11-5}-6-6-4-4-4-4-3-3-6-8-19-30-32-19-19-24-34-31-35-36-39-43-40-35-30-35-30-40-42-41-36-40-20-24-31-34-56-59-49-40-43-57-75-80-90-84-x-97-x-86-x [48 weeks {52 total}] One would think it's only a matter of time before my favourite dance producer alive in Gareth Emery gets a year-end #1. It's not to be this year however this song is his first to join the very exclusive club of titles spending a full year in the chart. Once again working with Annabel this track had more of a classic Emery vibe to it than much of what he'd been putting out, making this one a special addition to the LSR/CITY live show I eventually got to see when it made its final stop in London. Pop-trance at its absolute finest. #03 Anamē - Hopeful (feat. Lydmor) 12-6-4-4-4-1-2-2-2-2-3-5-6-7-5-5-5-5-5-7-8-11-12-21-25-20-18-20-38-46-39-39-60-65-79-70-64-90-61-67-33-47-42-... [43+ weeks] Whilst not #1 in the rundown, we can congratulate Anamē & Lydmor who have the highest title that was released within the year 2025. In these times we're living in, hope is a very much needed thing to have, so an uplifting dance song that encapsulates that by one of my faves was clearly a recipe for a humongous hit - spending longer in the top 10 than any other title this year with 20 weeks despite only a solitary one at the very top. If you only know them from BJSC for 'Anywhere' and enjoyed that then I highly recommend this. Klangphonics vs. The Yagas for #1...

#10 Valtos - Etive 8-5-5-4-2-4-5-5-8-9-13-30-48-59-56-56-72-78-61-72-42-42-46-49-73-52-57-76-99-x [29 weeks] Commencing the top 10 we have a majorly-instrumental piece that merges Scottish folk and drum n' bass, with a brilliant violin line being the center-point of it. I did consider this one for BJSC however they had been sent not too long ago and didn't perform very well. #09 Calvin Harris and Clementine Douglas - Blessings 2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-6-6-7-7-9-8-10-27-24-31-35-55-90-97-x-94-x [24 weeks] We now reach the highest-charting UK hit of the year, and the second time in three years Calvin had this honour as 'Miracle' was the EOY #02 in 2023. It also broke the record for most weeks stuck at #2, held behind 'Ocean's Voice' and 'Arreter le temps' but narrowly outperforming both by the year-end. This was a proper summer dance anthem assisted by Clementine doing a brilliant vocal performance as ever. Calvin continuing to throw in 90s trance vibes was appreciated in the current landscape of UK dance, even if Chicane thought it was a rip off one of his songs. #08 Paul Webster and Bo Bruce - Holding The Light 10-8-5-3-3-2-6-12-12-20-22-30-33-32-28-33-28-38-37-38-38-45-64-74-66-70-95-86-93-99-x [31 weeks] We now move on to some indisputable trance, this one being an uplifting remix of a 2013 Bo Bruce album track - the same album that gave us 'Alive' which was remixed by Gareth Emery (and re-titled 'U'). Paul Webster is an established trance producer having been active for almost 20 years, however success in my chart had eluded him until this release. This one's an undeniable anthem anyhow and more proof Bo's vocal is best suited to this genre. #07 Above & Beyond - Quicksand (Don't Go) (feat. Zoë Johnston) 25-26-30-21-14-16-19-23-38-69-87-78-61-88-79-94-97-17-12-14-16-23-42-46-70-80-61-83-94-94-95-73-x-100-x-81-x [34 weeks] Another one now - this was the song that launched the campaign for Above & Beyond's long-awaited new album; their first within the current decade. Although ultimately the album didn't have as many big highlights as their previous, this one followed the classic A&B formula best with its euphoric drop section and lovely vocal. #06 The Yagas - Life of a Widow 28-32-20-11-2-4-9-13-10-11-11-14-21-19-19-23-28-53-66-65-72-88-77-73-69-76-92-78-86-92-63-93-94-x-79-68-85-... [36+ weeks] The sole performer to have two entries in the top 10 are The Yagas, undoubtedly the breakthrough act of the year. This was the third single release of theirs, which the debut album shortly followed. Quite simply a rock epic, but more on them later...

This one had a bit more commercial traction but ended up stalling at the very bottom end of the UK 100. #14 Vendredi sur Mer - Arrèter le temps (feat. Sofiane Pamart) 23-25-25-2-4-3-3-3-3-3-3-1-1-3-3-5-8-11-19-22-50-66-77-x [23 weeks] Sofiane Pamart comes up with some beautiful piano compositions though really assisting with the replay value on this one is a suitably lush French vocal to complement it. #13 Ummet Ozcan - Ocean's Voice 10-6-8-8-6-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-5-7-10-13-22-32-39-41-61-71-85-86-x [25 weeks] An unexpectedly great find here and later another BJSC hit. Ummet Ozcan whose music I typically don't care for, wrote this piece as a tribute to the oceans. It's 5 minutes of slow progression build to a classic EDM drop being the glimmer of hope. #12 The Marías - No One Noticed 86-37-46-39-41-47-50-70-79-60-34-29-24-20-24-30-30-24-23-24-36-40-44-47-51-65-75-90-78-89-83-97-91-x [33 weeks] We reach the second-highest real-world hit now, this being such a slow-burner that it appears 8 places above its weekly chart peak. A beautiful bit of subdued dreampop. #11 Clann - Arise [EOY #40, 2024] {76-85-x-32-21-13-4-3-3-2-1-1-1-1-1-1}-1-1-2-2-7-10-12-17-29-29-28-39-44-48-56-78-69-61-69-78-70-86-78-91-96-x-20-19-25-39-52-... [30 weeks {45+ total}] Although when it comes to works of beauty this can't be topped. A 7-minute vocal cinematic piece that more than anything else here gets me emotional.

#20 High Beam - Just What I Said (Everything In Its Right Place) 35-42-45-47-33-27-14-16-5-4-4-5-7-12-15-25-45-66-99-79-x-90-x-94-77-91-... [24+ weeks] What we can all agree on is what Radiohead needed was a modern EDM uplift. Ok maybe just me then but it's an inspired sample use for a commercial house track. #19 Anamē - Astronauts (feat. Lydmor) 9-9-6-5-8-10-14-17-26-27-28-32-46-47-51-52-69-87-80-75-54-75-79-96-x [24 weeks] A bit of mid-tempo synthpop-adjacent EDM here then - a little different for Anamē which quickly grew into an album highlight (not hurt at all by Lydmor being the guest vocalist once again too) #18 Rathbone Place - Sunshine On A Rainy Day 53-11-3-4-4-4-5-7-10-15-13-16-17-18-28-27-28-40-49-78-78-67-66-78-80-98-x [26 weeks] A great uplifting bit of piano house, which as it turned out was a cover version of a substantial 90s hit that I'd not been familiar with. #17 LSR/City [Gareth Emery and Annabel] - Out of the Sky 14-11-7-3-3-1-2-2-3-4-7-9-24-16-23-27-38-57-65-69-65-94-76-78-68-78-97-... [27+ weeks] Another synthpop-inspired Emery & Annabel number written for their live shows and a big highlight of their recent work together. #16 XiJaro & Pitch and Jkult - United in Dreams 17-10-11-6-9-12-27-37-32-36-44-43-46-35-33-33-38-27-39-41-45-46-64-83-89-91-89-x [27 weeks] An outstanding trance instrumental piece now, which after a short lovely orchestral section goes all-out for the song's remainder.

#25 Matt Guy - Jaded Memory 44-24-28-28-26-14-11-15-13-15-22-23-23-28-35-54-68-62-69-94-93-x [21 weeks] You may recall the name from 'Every Little Time' which I sent to BJSC. This one's the strongest of his follow-ups being an energetic pop-house track with what I appears to be an uncredited Hayley May vocal. #24 Sparkbird - Atlantisia 6-4-1-3-3-6-15-17-22-56-68-86-90-x [18 weeks] The clear sonic outlier in this section being a... singer-songwriter ballad. [19+ weeks] One of this year's breakthrough acts here being a German pianist/producer, with this song giving a modern uplift to Chopin/Rachmaninoff. An instant standout, it later was also a BJSC entry for me which to humble-brag a little was the year's "worst" performance finishing in... a still very respectable 13th.
