How many streams equals one download sale?
100 plays if you are on Spotify Premium, or 600 if you are using the ad-supported free tier. However you cannot simply play a song that many times in one day to give it one sale, you are limited to 10 plays per day in terms of what counts to the chart. The number changes to 200 or 1200 plays when a song moves to ACR. For more information on the rules of ACR see this thread.
How much does streaming contribute to the chart?
Streaming contributes over 90% to the singles chart as a whole. Spotify counts for at least half of this, with Apple Music and Amazon also big contributors. YouTube is also big however most of YouTube's streams are at the free tier so won't count for as much.
Why is my fave not doing well?
Is it being promoted on a major curated playlist, and/or going viral on TikTok? If it isn't, it's unlikely to really take off! Hot Hits UK is the biggest of these playlists on Spotify from a UK standpoint. The playlist usually updates itself to include breaking hits once or twice a week, though there is no guarantee that your fave will get a place on the playlist. Also, the UK Top 50 is a largely followed playlist and that songs often experience a 'top 50 effect', when they enter the top 50 and get the additional exposure of being on the playlist. Often sales hits don't cross over to being streaming hits, this is usually the case for songs with an older target audience, reality or campaign songs. Also keep in mind that it often takes longer for a song to take off on Spotify than it would on iTunes.
My fave didn't debut high and is falling already, does this mean they're flopping?
Not necessarily. Most songs debut relatively low as they aren't instantly well-known, and experience a sharp decline on Day 2 as they no longer have the promoted 'New Music Friday' effect. A lot of songs manage to recover through gaining popularity and additions to playlists. Exceptions to the rule of course come from massively hyped releases, such as the recent album impacts from Drake and Taylor Swift.

For the full top 200, use the link below to go to Spotify's website. You can also use the Kworb website which displays the data in an easier to read format and also contains additional information, however this is often out of date.

interesting chart concept here that I'm also going to try and follow/listen to
Quite liking 'Temptation', which I see now that I have heard before in its original mix version. This version doesn't do a whole lot to improve it really but can't go wrong with a track being housed up. Have to agree with 'Out of Space' being better though.
Barenaked Ladies making an appearance means I'm contractually obliged to remind y'all that besides having one hit they sang the theme tune to The Big Bang Theory also. :magic: 'One Week' is fairly decent anyhow.
I don't think I've ever heard any Smash Mouth song before that isn't 'All Star', even though I see that 'Walking On The Sun' was technically a bigger UK chart hit - it's certainly not quite as memorable though if at all.
as for 'Made It Back', yeah it doesn't really have much going for it beyond the Chic sample, so it being fairly low here makes a lot of sense. I would've much preferred 'Turn Around'!
then 'Africa Shox' and 'King of Snake' both seem to fit into the category of crazy electronica that I can kinda get behind but wouldn't necessarily give a lot of plays to.

So this year it seemed the latest dance genre to get major traction was "drift phonk", often characterised by the use of cowbells and heavy distortion. The first song from this trend to get some UK chart action, albeit fairly minor, was this one by one of the genre's leading producers Kordhell. It does stand out a fair bit in its field which assisted it to also becoming a sizeable hit in my chart, I really enjoy the masses of energy the track has.

It's not quite to be for Becky Hill this year as she gets this year's unlucky #101 position, after 'Remember' landed at #80 last year. Collaborating with Galantis for deluxe edition track 'Run' it sadly couldn't quite reach the UK top 20 but in my chart it was her biggest hit of the year. Generic as it may be, she puts in another great vocal performance and the string backing and lively production do a good deal of help too.

After a fairly long wait following the big success of 'Talk About', Rain Radio put out their follow-up in '079' which was a bit of an unexpected change of direction being a bit more bass-driven and clearly not intended as a chart hit. I quickly got into it anyhow for the bop that it is, assisted by the rap hook which is rather catchy even if I've no idea why he's trying to give a phone call to various animals (namely cats, snakes and rats).

Grandbrothers will make one further appearance.Which means we now reach the very end of the rundown with Grandbrothers' "What We See", the song you may have expected to be #1 if you followed my mid-year rundown where it was also at the top spot. It means that for the second year now my EOY #1 is a non-mainstream hit and for the first time it is an entirely instrumental piece. The German duo who make electronic music largely by sampling their grand piano came on my radar through the Spotify algorithm with "All the Unknown" but it was only after checking their page and hearing this song I knew they had something special. This was one of the very few moments of the year I was truly wowed on first listen at a song and it duly went straight in at #1 and would later serve as a BJSC entry for me. It's not electronic dance music in the traditional sense, nor really neo-classical music either. The arrangement consists of a mix of organic percussive elements, the lush piano sound and various pads all effortlessly ebb-and-flowing throughout a 5:32 runtime, with plenty of variation to keep it interesting. It's just so impressive on a compositional level for me and as a piano player myself this piece was absolutely catered to my niche musical interest. But don't let that put you off, it is certainly worth a listen even if just as a few minutes of pleasant background music. I really hope to hear more from Grandbrothers in the not too distant future and see if they're able to make something as gorgeous as this again. This is BT's only appearance for the year.Put out last year as part of the album, it had passed me by as I was giving attention to 'No Warning Lights'. It was however given a single release with a couple of remixes this year but neither of those compared to the original cut, best heard in its full length 7:39 version. It ended up being the unluckiest #2 ever spending 7 weeks there behind the year's longest #1 runner, it would've been a #1 in almost any other time of the year. Another song caught right in the middle of years then. Chris Lorenzo couldn't quite manage to follow it up with another top 40 this year with 'Mami'.A tech house cover of the 60s classic which big fans of the original probably aren't that keen on as it removes all the strings and whatnot for a pounding beat and pretty much nothing in the way of synths, but this is Thermo's hot hits! Originally sang by Liam Payne and reaching #73 in 2019, German singer Zoe Wees managed her first "hit" with this cover version promoted as part of the Amazon Original series - although the song is also available on YouTube. It's a rather unimpressive end to this series - even putting aside the controversial aspect of Amazon exclusives charting primarily through passive listening - as the song is rather boring and her voice not particularly palatable to my taste.

The self-proclaimed Queen of Christmas may have never had a Christmas #1 but she eventually got herself at the opposite end of the chart for Christmas with 'Oh Santa'. Originally taken from her 2010 Christmas album, it was given a remix for its 10th anniversary with guest vocals from Ariana & Jennifer, also to promote her Apple TV Christmas special, allowing the song to chart for the first time. Having peaked at #67 in 2020, it re-entered at the all-important #100 on its second year. It now sits at a new peak of #60 and may even climb in tonight's chart. The song doesn't live up to "All I Want..." of course, but is another great addition to the recent Christmas cannon.
