  1. 2020: Eminem feat. Skylar Grey - Black Magic

    Peak position: #100

    Weeks in chart: 01

Christmas Number One: LadBaby - Don't Stop Me Eatin'

2020 saw Eminem release what remains his latest studio album in Music To Be Murdered By, giving him a #1 single in Godzilla in January. Just in time for Christmas saw the deluxe edition released scoring him two minor top 100 hits. The second of these was 'Black Magic' with guest vocals from semi-regular collaborator Skylar Grey. Assisted by being the first track on the deluxe edition. It's no Eminem classic but fairly good on a re-listen.

  2. 2019: Khalid - Up All Night

    Peak position: #55

    Weeks in chart: 08

Christmas Number One: LadBaby - I Love Sausage Rolls

Khalid was a fairly big name in RnB toward the end of the 2010s, having had two #1 hits, although he seemed to lose his chart relevance just as quickly as he gained it, having not reached the chart this or last year. 'Up All Night' was thrown out toward the end of 2019 but could only manage a #55 peak and couldn't do much recovery post-Christmas. The song is nothing special anyhow.

  3. 2018: DJ Snake feat. Selena Gomez, Cardi B & Ozuna - Taki Taki

    Peak position: #15

    Weeks in chart: 15

Christmas Number One: LadBaby - We Built This City

During the big craze for Latin pop crossovers we had DJ Snake team up with Ozuna (Puerto Rican rapper) for 'Taki Taki', also featuring verses from Selena Gomez & Cardi B. The song was a huge global hit amassing 2.3bn YouTube streams and 1.3bn Spotify streams. It wasn't quite so big in the UK however just managing five weeks in the top 20, peaking in November before ACR and Christmas music pushed it down to the very bottom of the chart for this week. The song title supposedly has no meaning and was just used in the song because it sounded catchy.

  4. 2017: Gwen Stefani feat. Blake Shelton - You Make It Feel Like Christmas

    Peak position: #71

    Weeks in chart: 05

Christmas Number One: Ed Sheeran - Perfect

Having taken a lengthy hiatus after her mid-00s success, Gwen Stefani returned with a new album in 2016. The following year it was decided to put out a Christmas album from which this was taken as the lead single. Blake Shelton (US country singer and Gwen's hubby) was featured giving him his first UK "hit". It is one of my favourites of the recent batch of Christmas pop actually being a jolly upbeat tune. However it only managed to scrape the top 100 for Christmas, climbing to #98 the following week. It then peaked at #71 in 2018.

  9. In My Mind sneaking in

Huge Quismoiss takeover I can't comment much on oop. Poor Nia taking a tumble. I hope she rebounds in the new year

Nia should at least manage to re-enter top 40 post-Christmas!

    thanks Kath~

    Hi there!

Nice to see the christmas songs returning your chart.

    Great chart!

    thanks Sergej~

    Hey Dan!

Ooo look at driving home for Christmas repeaking at the same position as last year. Good stuff. It is a good song and maybe next year I'll go for some songs I don't usually chart because this year it's all felt a bit stale for me.

It's good to see you're a fan of one more sleep but that's definitely one I'll be cutting next year. It just isn't as good as half the others that chart

I do love cascadas version of last Christmas and that may get a chart enzt year. That was the first version I properly loved of this song as well. I just went down a rabbit hole on YouTube of cascada music there, I forgot how much I used tomlobe their music.

Good chart this week, have a very merry Christmas! ^_^

DHFC has become one of my proper favourites as it has such a homely timeless feeling to it

as for OMS it's the first year since 2014 it's not made my top 10 but it's still a great song

Cascada's version may end up not doing so well in future now that we've got another dance version of the song form Eden Prince/Karen Harding but we'll have to see.

    thanks James~

f*** THE TORIES THE BEST QUISMOIS SONG THIS YEAR YOU CANNOT DENY THE FACT!!!!

    :cheeseblock: :cheeseblock: :cheeseblock:

    Merry Quismois Dan! :cheer:

yes it really has more of the spirit of christmas than LadBaby and Sidemen!!

    thanks uhsting~

    hey dan,

Some fab BJSC Entries from 'O.B.I.C.', 'In My Mind', 'Fall To Pieces', 'One Night' and 'Hawt' plus Grum still reigning supreme. Love a lot of those Christmas classics too. Cascada's version of 'Last Christmas' topped my chart in 2007. A great version despite the haters for them in general!

    good chart!

yeah, shame that most people here who know of Cascada's version seem to hate it, but I still enjoy it.

glad you enjoy my BJSC picks as well.

    thanks Rob~

and btw tbh I'm going to freeze the chart this week to focus on the EOY so WD Grum on a free 3rd #1 week (he'd have been #1 anyway)

99 37 Leona Lewis - One More Sleep

  11. here's my faves from your top 100

1 1 14 195 Harry Styles - As It Was – easily the best Harry Styles song for me, fair play to it being such a huge hit

2 1 12 191 LF System - Afraid To Feel – this was my absolute favourite hit single of the year, though that won't necessarily translate into an EOY #1 position for me as my taste lies fairly non-commercial - amazing dance record

3 1 12 190 Cornelia Jakobs - Hold Me Closer – this was my fave from Eurovision this year also

    5 1 9 144 The Weeknd - Sacrifice

    7 1 10 131 Beyoncé - Break My Soul – her best song in a good while

    8 1 10 126 Jessie Ware - Free Yourself

    9 3 10 120 Tove Lo - No One Dies From Love

10 2 10 118 Eliza Rose - B.O.T.A. (Baddest of them all) – another song I was very pleased to see be such a big hit

    11 1 12 118 Sam Smith / Kim Petras - Unholy

    16 2 8 110 Rain Radio - He Goes Down – I much preferred Talk About, and even 079

    19 4 8 102 Beyoncé - Cuff it

    21 1 12 100 Adele - I Drink Wine

    22 4 13 97 Peggy Gou - I Go

    27 6 8 88 Tiesto, Charlie XCX - Hot In In

    28 1 6 87 Taylor Swift - Anti-Hero – her best song in a good while

    31 3 10 87 Shygirl - Cleo

    34 1 7 84 Rihanna - Lift Me Up

    40 3 9 77 Purple Disco Machine - In The Dark

    42 1 6 75 Lizzo - About Damn Time

    46 1 7 75 Calvin Harris, Dua Lipa, Young Thug - Potion

    48 6 9 72 Southstar - Miss You

    56 3 6 65 Purple Disco Machine feat. Kaleta - Wake Up

    58 1 4 63 venbee & goddard. - messy in heaven

    61 2 6 62 LF System - Hungry (For Love)

    64 4 5 60 Disclosure x Raye – Waterfall

    69 5 6 59 Sickick - I Can Feel It

    73 5 5 56 Calvin Harris - New To You

    78 10 8 54 Chanel - SloMo

    81 1 4 53 Tensnake - How Will I Know

    82 4 5 52 Raye - Escapism.

    88 1 3 50 The Blessed Madonna - Serotonin Moonbeam

92 5 5 49 Elton John & Britney Spears - Hold Me Closer (Purple Disco Machine Remix)

    94 2 3 48 Kalush Orchestra - Stefania

  12. Oh I completely forgot about "So Good" as I think I was in the opposite semi, shame and surprised that it happened to DNQ as it sounds very Purple Disco Machine.

I think the vocal must come from some kind of sample bank because EDX's latest uses the exact same vocal.

I also enjoyed the Icelandic Eurovision entry as well as Regard "Signals" and Sam Fender "Getting Started" (although I playlisted the Chase & Status remix)

  13. 128 Acraze & Cherish - Do It To It | 92 points – loved this being such a big UK hit

126 Swedish House Mafia & Connie Constance - Heaven Takes You Home | 93 points

119 Harry Styles - As It Was | 108 points – a surprisingly great effort from Harry Styles here so no issue with it being the year's biggest selling song

115 David Guetta & Benny Benassi - Satisfaction | 115 points – you know already though I much prefer the original version! :P

111 Joel Corry & Tom Grennan - Lionheart (Fearless) | 122 Points – not quite up with his best for me still, mind

    110 Joel Corry & Mabel - I Wish | 122 points – same goes for this one!

    109 Beyoncé - Cuff It | 124 points

102 Marf & Wulf - Somebody To Love | 137 points – shame this had to DNQ

101 Nicki Minaj - Super Freaky Girl | 141 points

100 Jax Jones, Martin Solveig & Gracey - Lonely Heart | 144 points – this was very weak effort for Jax Jones sadly, no surprise it didn't manage to be much of a hit for him, though oops at it having made little of a lasting impression with you long-term

98 SG Lewis - Missing You | 145 points – I quite liked this although it couldn't quite crack my top 40

95 Adele - I Drink Wine | 152 points – I did enjoy this around this time last year but couldn't make myself get back into it when it got the single release given how delayed it was

90 Eliza Rose & Interplanetary Criminal - B.O.T.A. (Baddest Of Them All) | 161 points – love this! I doubt they'll ever manage another hit though

89 Sigala - Melody | 164 points – this was decent but Sigala for me isn't nearly good as he used to be

82 Luude & Mattafix - Big City Life | 172 points – I did prefer this out of the Luude releases

  14. hi Rob, here's my faves from your chart so far:

    199. Calvin Harris ft Dua Lipa & Young Thug - Potion – although I really wish Young Thug wasn't on it

    197. Cornelia Jakobs - Hold Me Closer – this was the best in Eurovision this year!

    195. Galantis Ft Becky Hill - Run – poor Becky Hill being demoted to featured artist here

    194. Take Van - Buzzkill

    183. Michael Canitrot - Oracle – one of my top discoveries of the year from BJSC

    181. Aamouraocean - Parmi Les Mortals

    179. Grum - Look To The Light – yay! glad you got a discovery out of this. it will certainly be very high up my EOY.

    177. Sigala, Sam Ryder and Sigala - Living Without You

    175. BLACKBOOK - Emergency Room

    173. The Weeknd - Sacrifice

    170. Joshua Amour - In My Mind

    168. Cassie Raptor (feat. Rebeka Warrior) - O.B.I.C

    165. DJ Reiz – Dance Machine 96

    163. Fred Again.. - Delilah (pull me out of this) – great track though I did prefer a few of his others this year

    161. Tove Lo - No One Dies From Love

    159. Lost Frequencies Ft Calum Scott - Where Are You Now

    157. Overmono - Bby

    155. Sam Smith Ft Kim Petras - Unholy

    153. KSI Ft Tom Grennan - Not Over Yet

    152. Tiesto Ft Charli XCX - Hot In It

  15. hi Sergej, here's my faves since my last comment:

    177. MEDUZA & James Carter featuring Elley Duhé – “Bad Memories”

    176. Luude & Mattafix - “Big City Life”

    170. Swedish House Mafia & The Weeknd - “Moth To A Flame” – has to be their best track since their comeback, I'm just glad we got at least one hit out of it

    163. Elton John & Britney Spears – “Hold Me Closer”

    162. Ana Mena – “Mezzanotte”

    158. Kungs – “Lipstick”

    146. KALUSH - “Stefania (Kalush Orchestra)”

    144. Joel Corry featuring Mabel – “I Wish”

    143. Beyoncé – “BREAK MY SOUL”

    141. Sigala, David Guetta & Sam Ryder – “Living Without You”

    131. Adele – “Oh My God”

    112. Alok, Sigala and Ellie Goulding – “All By Myself”

    109. RAYE - “Black Mascara.” – didn't quite make my hottest 200 this year but was great to hear from her

    100. YouNotUs featuring Louis III - “Samba” – not heard this one before but sounds intriguing given what song it samples

    99. Tiësto & Ava Max - “The Motto”

    94. Nancy Ajram & Marshmello – “Sah Sah” – didn't notice Marshmello was collabing with Arabic pop singers now, sounds more interesting than his usual recent stuff already

    83. Jax Jones featuring MNEK – “Where Did You Go?”

  16. hi Conor, my faves from your top 200 so far:

#195: I Wish - Joel Corry feat. Mabel – I do feel like they could've done a lot better but this was fairly decent

#192: Calm Down - Rema & Selena Gomez – certainly is a bop, it does more for me than most of the afrobeats hits we get and Selena is surprisingly a great addition to it

#182: Hypnotized - Sophie Ellis-Bextor & Wuh-Oh – sounded quite catchy although her mispronunciation of the song title did put me off a little Lol

  17. What About Us – certainly deserved as their biggest hit in your chart and the UK (also highest peaking for them in mine going to #15)

    Fancy – iconic track!

Something New – ultimately not my fave of theirs ever but it was great that their brief reunion did produce at least one good song

Alone Again – I enjoyed this a fair bit too, obviously not to the extent you did but it made #2 in my chart - shame the song seemed to get quickly forgot about despite being a sizeable UK hit

AIWFCIY – always a fave at Christmas, it's entered my top 40 in most years even despite all the overplay it gets

Stay - not surprising in the least of course but can't argue with this being the top pick (particularly for it being my fave of what I've heard of The Kid Laroi's)

  18. 2016: The Killers - Mr Brightside

    Peak position: #10

    Weeks in chart: 342

Christmas Number One: Clean Bandit - Rockabye

With the least eventful Xmas #1 race ever leading to Clean Bandit getting their 7th week at #1 with low sales by default, we had another inevitability at the bottom end of the chart, yes it is finally time that 'Mr Brightside' landed in this position at Christmas. The longest chart runner of all time was "only" on its 152nd week then, but this week marked the 8th that it sat at the very bottom of the chart (out of 15, so far). The song won't be appearing in this list twice, mind. Not yet, at least.

  19. 2015: Years & Years - King

    Peak position: #01

    Weeks in chart: 59

Christmas Number One: Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Choir - A Bridge Over You

A #1 hit in March 2015, electro/synthpop track 'King' became the major breakthrough hit for then-group Years & Years (now a solo project by singer Olly Alexander) - it remains their biggest hit. Having not left the chart since, it descended right to the bottom of the chart just in time for Christmas before going on to spend another quarter-year in the chart.

  20. 2014: Dean Martin - Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow

    Peak position: #27

    Weeks in chart: 33+

Christmas Number One: Ben Haenow - Something I Need

Well it was only a matter of time before we'd get some Christmas music cropping up in this list. "Let It Snow..." was written by Sammy Cahn & Jule Styne in 1945, and its most popular version by Dean Martin recorded in 1959. It first appeared in the UK Top 100 in 2007 thanks to the inclusion of download sales to the chart, having presumably been a popular song for many years beforehand. It made a few more appearances in the 2010s before eventually going top 40 in the last week of 2019 - it has now made the top 40 every year since.

  21. 2013: Swedish House Mafia feat. John Martin - Don't You Worry Child

    Peak position: #01

    Weeks in chart: 60

Christmas Number One: Sam Bailey - Skyscraper

What was marketed as the last ever release from Swedish House Mafia ended up giving them their biggest ever hit, entering at #1 in October 2012. It of course kept lingering around the chart for most of the following year, and re-entered at #100 in time for Christmas. They did indeed take a lengthy hiatus before returning to touring a few years ago and eventually putting out new music last year.

  22. 2012: Of Monsters And Men - Little Talks

    Peak position: #12

    Weeks in chart: 40

Christmas Number One: Justice Collective - He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother

Another year where X Factor released a week early to avoid competition with a charidee release. We got a much better song at the bottom end of the chart again though with 'Little Talks' having re-entered at #100. It peaked at #12 in September and spent 18 weeks on the chart but 2013 would see the song get another big chart revival. The song is perhaps the biggest hit to ever come from an Icelandic band.
