What are the chart rules regarding streaming? For streaming and chart rules related FAQs read this thread. How many streams equals one download sale? 100 plays if you are on Spotify Premium, or 600 if you are using the ad-supported free tier. However you cannot simply play a song that many times in one day to give it one sale, you are limited to 10 plays per day in terms of what counts to the chart. The number changes to 200 or 1200 plays when a song moves to ACR. For more information on the rules of ACR see this thread. How much does streaming contribute to the chart? Streaming contributes over 90% to the singles chart as a whole. Spotify counts for at least half of this, with Apple Music and Amazon also big contributors. YouTube is also big however most of YouTube's streams are at the free tier so won't count for as much. Why is my fave not doing well? Is it being promoted on a major curated playlist, and/or going viral on TikTok? If it isn't, it's unlikely to really take off! Hot Hits UK is the biggest of these playlists on Spotify from a UK standpoint. The playlist usually updates itself to include breaking hits once or twice a week, though there is no guarantee that your fave will get a place on the playlist. Also, the UK Top 50 is a largely followed playlist and that songs often experience a 'top 50 effect', when they enter the top 50 and get the additional exposure of being on the playlist. Often sales hits don't cross over to being streaming hits, this is usually the case for songs with an older target audience, reality or campaign songs. Also keep in mind that it often takes longer for a song to take off on Spotify than it would on iTunes. My fave didn't debut high and is falling already, does this mean they're flopping? Not necessarily. Most songs debut relatively low as they aren't instantly well-known, and experience a sharp decline on Day 2 as they no longer have the promoted 'New Music Friday' effect. A lot of songs manage to recover through gaining popularity and additions to playlists. Exceptions to the rule of course come from massively hyped releases, such as the recent album impacts from Drake and Taylor Swift. Spotify How do I see today's Spotify chart? To see the daily top 50 update on desktop, log in to Spotify, click 'Browse', then click 'Charts', then click 'United Kingdom Top 50', or click the link below. For the full top 200, use the link below to go to Spotify's website. You can also use the Kworb website which displays the data in an easier to read format and also contains additional information, however this is often out of date. #25. Kendrick Lamar - Euphoria UK chart run: 50-{11}-22-35-45-63->6 Points: 70 #24. With the focus being put on the latter effort this fell out fairly quickly afterwards but clearly did the job it needed to from Kendrick's pov. Christmas time again and as ever in this rate we get a belated entry or two from a slow riser, the first of these being from Sia who had her previous top 20 'Santa's Coming For Us' fairly quickly rotated out in favour of 'Snowman' a few years back and now it belatedly gains a top 20 peak itself. It's a lovely song anyhow that certainly looks set to be a modern day festive favourite. Tyler, the Creator's surprise album drop was given a brief warning with the track 'Noid' that came out midweek prior to the full album assisting it to a brief top 20 peak before more popular album tracks overtook. However it was the favourite for three voters here accounting for over half its points total. Meanwhile the controversial Kygo 'Whatever' is next to appear, despite placing 2nd in the Buzzjack Hate Chart it of course had a fair few supporters as well so it was never going to feature in the bottom section. Five sets of negative points does deny it a top 20 placing however. Getting a second run in the chart after their Brits performance was Jungle with 'Back On 74' gaining a top 20 peak this year. The song placed 18th in last year's non-top 20 ranking so the year gap since hasn't seen it gain or lose any supporters.

Another TikTok one hit wonder rapper appears next albeit one of the more interesting of them in recent times, Hanumankind is also one of a very few from India to have had a chart hit and the song deserved more of a run that it eventually got as the vitality faded rather quickly. French rapper Stromae got a belated second hit thanks to featuring prominently in the Netflix show Arcane albeit the song also fell off rather fast due to Christmas so is unlikely to surpass the sales of the better 'Alors on Danse'. Another media tie-in song next up coming from the most "popular" film of the year Wicked - with it being a musical starring chart superstar Ariana Grande she unsurprisingly got her three hits out of it although the one solo effort is the lower of the two eligible for this contest. Calvin Harris had a bit of an off-year releasing only two singles neither of which made the top 10. The bigger hit of the two which was his second collab with Rag'n'Bone Man was seen as rather mid and indeed it appears at the midpoint of the countdown here.

#01 Charli XCX - Von Dutch cwZ1L_0QLjw However if there's one word that described commercial dance in the summer of 2024 that was BRAT and so it is congratulations to Charli XCX who tops the poll with 'Von Dutch' your Dance Track of the Year. The song was the first track to be released from the album when little did we know how big the era would turn out to be. It was also awarded a Grammy for best dance-pop recording of the year. The song is a brash electro-house effort which was produced by Finn Keane aka Easyfun who reportedly produced this and Charli's 2023 hit 'Speed Drive' in one day. The music video filmed at Thee Airport was also very highly rated by fans. It was rated the top track of the year by bluemonday and Roba whilst placing in 2nd for Kath, JulianT, Brer and seven.

#02 Disclosure - She's Gone, Dance On QZrcXTHqQ_c Following their self-released album in 2023, 'She's Gone, Dance On' saw Disclosure's return to the majors and became their biggest hit in years (ignoring an afro house remix of 'You & Me'). Being a brilliant summer anthem with a retro sample it reminded us of the good old Disclosure albeit still sounding fresh as ever. The song was originally intended just as a bootleg for club play but the very positive fan reception prompted them to clear the sample for official release. It was Brer's personal favourite in the list and the second-favourite for bluemonday.

#03 Chase & Status x Stormzy – BACKBONE Ye5QXjqTDqE What a great last couple of years it has been for Chase & Status. With 'Disconnect' and 'Baddadan' having been huge hits in 2023, hype for an eventual 2024 release was clearly there which we got in August with 'Backbone'. Assisted by Stormzy who proved to be a perfect fit for this sort of energetic heavy drum n' bass, it not only was a very clear DTotW winner but also entered at UK #1 being the much deserved first for the veteran duo. The song was awardinary's favourite of the selection.

#04 Porter Robinson - Cheerleader CzJbz9qSsd0 Taking 4th place we have 'Cheerleader' which was the comeback release in 2024 for Porter Robinson, acting as the lead single for his third album release. The track and subsequent album saw a bit of sound recalibration being more influenced by emo and electropop, with its lyrics written about the relationship he has with his fans. Despite being less traditionally 'EDM' it expectedly had a very positive fan reception and most here would agree it was ultimately the best he had to offer on the whole album. ElectroBoy and seven. rated it their top pick of the year.

#05 Peggy Gou - 1+1=11 qTSadqfWeDw Recommencing in the top five we have Peggy Gou who tied with Calvin Harris last year to be Buzzjack's favourite dance hit of 2023 with the infectious 'Nanana'. Her summer anthem for 2024 wasn't ever going to be a commercial hit being an instrumental effort however it was widely considered her best follow-up release since with its trance-influenced melody and production. The song also acted as the launch for her debut album release. The song was my 2nd favourite in the poll and the personal favourite for Kath.

Sailor Song, APT and That's So True are all on ACR next week so this'll be in prime position for UK #2 :dance:

Middling rap one hit wonders no longer being limited to just the men, we also had Flo Milli and Lay Bankz this year who scored a handful of votes each. Bryson Tiller managed his biggest hit in a few years coming up close to a decade since his feature on the #1 DJ Khaled hit. The lowest-scoring dance hit of the year came from Irish one hit wonder act NewEra, a fair position for them given it was one of the least interesting dance hits we've had recently. Coldplay came back same as they ever was though it clearly helped them sell a boat-load of albums, their more interesting follow-up will appear later on. Another TikTok 1HW from Paul Russell here which wasn't so much a sample as it was taking the entire instrumental of 'Best of My Love' and rapping over it, had more fans than perhaps expected.
