💦 Mainstream Splashes 💦
The "this technically counts as a hit single" section
Fred Again.. and Anderson .Paak ~ Places To Be (feat. Chika)
Jaxomy, Agatino Romero and Raffaella Carrà ~ Pedro
Lost Frequencies ~ Head Down [feat. Bastille]
Lost Frequencies and Tom Odell ~ Black Friday (Pretty Like The Sun)
Majestic, The Jammin Kid and Céline Dion – Set My Heart On Fire
Fred just misses out on the top 200... again. 'Places To Be' was one of the better songs from his most recent album which was otherwise fairly disappointing (well besides another song yet to appear). Jaxomy had a fun techno tune but with the sheer amount of times the singer says 'Pedro' it only had so much replay value. Lost Frequencies managed some minor hits which were quite decent, although I am surprised he's still at a stage where he can get that. Majestic managed to get another hit the only way possible with a basic dance remake although one of a song I wasn't familiar with so it sounded fairly fresh.

Now for the big UK hits section..
Ariana Grande ~ Yes, and? (Original/The Blessed Madonna Remix)
Ariana Grande ~ We Can't Be Friends (Wait For Your Love)
Artemas ~ I Like the Way You Kiss Me (Original/MRD Remix)
Beyoncé ~ Texas Hold 'Em
Hozier ~ Too Sweet
Ariana deserves a little bit of a shout out again then, mostly for 'Yes, and?' which was a nice little classic house-pop throwback although 'We Can't Be Friends' was also one of the better recent synthpop hits. One of the year's TikTok fads in Artemas had a fairly unique hit although the production was further lifted by the much-less popular MRD remix version for me. Beyoncé going country was better than it sounded on paper... for one song only at least. Hozier also had another massive hit which thankfully was not a TMTC-style dirge so a shout out for that too.

Here comes the 'too recent for top 200 inclusion' section...
Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande ~ Defying Gravity
Lady Gaga ~ Disease
Lola Young ~ Messy
Rosé and Bruno Mars – APT.
Pawsa and The Adventures Of Stevie V ~ Dirty Cash (Money Talks)
No I have not seen the "Wicked" film or listened to the OST beyond this song (yet), but well I did have to hear what the hype for this was all about even if I remember disliking the Glee version that briefly charted over a decade ago. It was surprisingly great with a brilliant vocal performance and interesting song structure and instrumentation. Lady Gaga led her forthcoming album with a song that could easily have been released from her a decade ago but it's another fun song, though hopefully not the very best of what is to come. Breakthrough performer Lola Young could very well be in the list proper next year with 'Messy' which is set to be a huge January smash which I'd be here for as it's one of the more interesting pop smashes we've had. Meanwhile Pawsa could also get a belated UK top 40 appearance with his remake of 'Dirty Cash' which is a good modern update to the late 80s dance hit. And lastly not forgetting Rosé who surprisingly put out a great pop track as I was never keen on anything from Blackpink.

#01. Nicki Minaj ~ Big Foot [158 points]
Most hated: CoolHand501, jimwatts, Michael Bubré [+12]
UK run: {56}->1
Here we have it then, it is "congratulations" to Nicki Minaj for her second Hatechart win and first without the "help" of 6ix9ine. The track was quickly written and recorded as a diss track towards Megan Thee Stallion following her song "Hiss" which included a subtle Nicki diss. However even by standards of a diss track it was rather ugly from lyrics mocking the 2020 incident where Megan was shot in the foot and the recent passing of her mother to the bizarre ending where she just rambles for a minute completely a capella. The instant internet reaction was overwhelming negative with this topping various online lists for the worst song to have come out this year, and as it did chart here for one week presumably from nothing but curiosity streaming it also tops out as Buzzjack's least favourite 'hit' of the year. The track ran away with it too with a 42 point lead over Kygo and it had the joint-most number of haters with Creator Universe.
All three now join the below Hall of Hate...

#02. Kygo and Ava Max ~ Whatever [116 points]
Most hated: CowTzy, rio309 [+12]
UK run: 39-27-28-24-20-17-{15}-20-17-19-21-20-22-68-74R(2)->15
After a run of much-loved releases on Buzzjack, Ava Max unfortunately managed to end up on a hit that left quite the opposite impression with a large majority of the user base. Also acting as Norwegian producer Kygo's first hit in over three years, although sonically he continues to remain firmly within the 2010s when he was more popular as he has seemingly been out of original musical ideas for ages. Of course you know the real reason why this is here as the song's chorus rewrote the lyrics to Shakira's breakout hit 'Wherever, Whenever' with lyrics that weren't quite as well-written or sung, which was bound to be annoying to some. I don't actually dislike this tbh so I'm pleased it didn't manage to top the chart ahead of the travesty that is last to be revealed...

#03. Creator Universe ~ I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday [108 points]
Most hated: …ready for it, Dobbo, JulianT [+12]
UK run: {29}->1
Creator Universe was the ill-attempted Xmas #1 race charity effort for last year, made up of a load of TikTok 'influencers' that most of us had never heard of. They decided to take on one of the most beloved British Christmas songs originally sang by Wizzard in the 70s. As you'd expect it was a badly sung poor cover version (with some attempting a "comedy" angle to it) that thankfully didn't gain half as much traction that LadBaby had done for the five years previous (and not even out-performing the original version that week). Perhaps, spelling the belated death of the ensemble charity single (further proven by this year's Band Aid remix doing f***-all).

Controversial rapper Kanye West collaborated with Ty Dolla $ign for two albums this year which ultimately produced only one lasting chart smash in 'Carnival' which is the song that lands up here. Kanye's verse on this itself got some eyerolls from comparing himself to infamous sex offenders and even that aside the song is quite the sonic mess and further proof of how much he has fell off creatively, ultimately the song just sounds like it's trying to be annoying which is a bit of a theme for this section..
Camila Cabello had not so long ago had one of the biggest hits of her career by duetting with Ed Sheeran on a summery Latin pop song. So naturally the logical next step was to throw away any remaining goodwill she had by attempting to out-brat Charli XCX with a hyper pop comeback single. The general consensus however was that it simply didn't work and just sounded like an annoying mess. Some of those vocals, yikes. And to make it even worse Playboi Carti was invited for no good reason from the 2 minute mark to the end when the song could've just... stopped. Seriously though can the industry just stop endorsing Playboi Carti.
2023's fad rapper of the year Ice Spice attempted to maintain some relevance by, well you did see the title of the song, and naturally that line got rather clowned upon as soon as it premiered and solidified her reputation as just a meme rapper. Besides that, the production had a fairly obnoxious synth line and minimal beat and Ice Spice just spends the whole time bragging about the usual.
Tomorrow evening then we have our medalist reveal... Creator Universe vs. Kygo/Ava Max vs. Nicki Minaj

So I was wrong about 'Merry Christmas', which has been shunted to ACR, and 'The Sound of Silence' which clearly had a narrow avoidance and has gained even further again this week. We lose both pineapples but one will be back in January I expect.

#41-50
41 140 The Prodigy - Firestarter | 87-99-26-09-16-41
42 136 Daft Punk - Around The World | 28-125-x-136-61-42
43 136 Rudimental (feat John Newman) - Feel The Love | 12-18-42-57-85-43
44 134 Galantis - Runaway (U & I) | 55-33-97-44
45 133 The Chemical Brothers - Hey Boy Hey Girl | 55-x-34-48-18-45
46 133 Calvin Harris - I'm Not Alone | 47-35-x-125-24-46
47 132 Black Box - Ride On Time | 87-96-47
48 132 Bicep - Glue | 48
49 128 O-Zone - Dragostea Din Tei | 49
50 128 Adamski (feat Seal) - Killer | 77-x-x-187-50
One of the very early 90s dance hits and launch of Seal's career 'Killer' commences the upper half of the rundown. Finishing just above is one of the last #1s of the 80s from Black Box which brought Italo-house mainstream.
Romanian dance group O-Zone hadn't been considered for inclusion here before but their novelty smash is now at #49. Meanwhile one of the more recent additions comes from Bicep with their biggest hit 'Glue', not a personal favourite of mine but good to see some new blood in here.
The third-highest Calvin Harris track, 'I'm Not Alone' is not the earliest of his inclusions though still came before his commercial peak era.
'Hey Boy Hey Girl' is once more the top rated track from the ChemBros albeit dropping a fair amount this time. Their counterparts The Prodigy likewise are down with 'Firestarter' - no longer their top entry here. Daft Punk's second of four here, 'Around the World' improves on its peak and is the only track here of their 90s output. Two big 2010s hits also improve a fair bit from Galantis and Rudimental.

#51-60
51 126 Culture Beat - Mr Vain | 120-x-x-34-51
52 122 Zombie Nation - Kernkraft 400 | 164-74-114-52
53 121 Felix - Don't You Want Me | 74-184-123-118-53
54 117 Tomcraft - Loneliness | 41-66-122-121-54-54
55 117 Sonique - It Feels So Good | 21-34-106-55
56 116 The Prodigy - Breathe | 130-72-90-95-56
57 114 Lasgo - Something | 84-93-x-55-55-57
58 113 Rui Da Silva (feat Cassandra) - Touch Me | 48-50-16-06-58
59 111 DNA (feat Suzanne Vega) - Tom's Diner | 126-153-110-59
60 111 Avicii (feat Dan Tyminksi) - Hey Brother | 118-136-170-102-60
The third-highest appearance for Avicii here and the top-rated from his debut album, 'Hey Brother' eventually climbed into the top 100 rankings this year. It's the only song from the 2010s in this section however as the classics keep on dropping.
An early 90s dance remix of Suzanne Vega giving her biggest hit also makes a belated top 100 appearance here. Rui Da Silva fared very well five years ago but seems to have lost quite a chunk of his fanbase as 'Touch Me' reaches a new low in the rankings. He is joined by other big trance one hit wonder DJs Zombie Nation and Tomcraft.
Lasgo remain stable with their early 00s eurodance hit and for earlier eurodance we have Culture Beat and Felix. Sonique takes a rebound with her biggest hit which she recently re-recorded for a tech house remake by Matt Sassari/Hugel. The Prodigy remain popular as ever here and 'Breathe' ends up their third-biggest on the list.

#61-70
61 110 Olive - You're Not Alone | 27-32-46-65-34-61
62 110 Livin' Joy - Dreamer | 38-22-115-30-15-62
63 108 Armand Van Helden (feat Duane Harden) - You Don't Know Me | 178-123-63
64 107 Eric Prydz - Call On Me | 14-41-43-46-64
65 107 Porter Robinson (feat Heather Bright) - Language | 100-x-53-126-37-65
66 106 The Chemical Brothers (feat Q-Tip) - Galvanize | 37-31-56-66
67 106 Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar | 54-x-191-x-150-67
68 104 Delerium (feat Sarah McLachlan) - Silence | 186-35-68
69 104 Spiller (feat Sophie Ellis Bextor) - Groovejet (If This Ain't Love) | 08-19-x-64-180-69
70 103 PPK - Resurection | 45-x-x-110-31-70
One of the best trance classics of all time at #70 from Russian one hit wonder production group PPK sadly dropping a fair bit. Some more great trance anthems from Delerium and Energy 52 also take space in this section.
The chart revival for Sophie's biggest hit 'Murder' assists her second-biggest 'Groovejet' up the rankings here albeit far from the top 10 position it held over a decade ago. One of the biggest hits for Chemical Brothers and one of the very best dance/rap combos 'Galvanize' is next up.
Porter Robinson's big mainstream breakthrough came with one of the defining golden era of EDM anthems 'Language' which departs the top 40.
'Call On Me' was one of the biggest dance hits of the 00s and is the only rep here for Eric Prydz as sadly 'Pjanoo' missed the cut. The better-rated of two AvH 90s anthems here tops out at #63 joined by two other #1 hits of the 90s from Livin Joy and Olive.

FAQs
What is streaming? What are the chart rules regarding streaming?
For streaming and chart rules related FAQs read this thread.
How many streams equals one download sale?
100 plays if you are on Spotify Premium, or 600 if you are using the ad-supported free tier. However you cannot simply play a song that many times in one day to give it one sale, you are limited to 10 plays per day in terms of what counts to the chart. The number changes to 200 or 1200 plays when a song moves to ACR. For more information on the rules of ACR see this thread.
How much does streaming contribute to the chart?
Streaming contributes over 90% to the singles chart as a whole. Spotify counts for at least half of this, with Apple Music and Amazon also big contributors. YouTube is also big however most of YouTube's streams are at the free tier so won't count for as much.
Why is my fave not doing well?
Is it being promoted on a major curated playlist, and/or going viral on TikTok? If it isn't, it's unlikely to really take off! Hot Hits UK is the biggest of these playlists on Spotify from a UK standpoint. The playlist usually updates itself to include breaking hits once or twice a week, though there is no guarantee that your fave will get a place on the playlist. Also, the UK Top 50 is a largely followed playlist and that songs often experience a 'top 50 effect', when they enter the top 50 and get the additional exposure of being on the playlist. Often sales hits don't cross over to being streaming hits, this is usually the case for songs with an older target audience, reality or campaign songs. Also keep in mind that it often takes longer for a song to take off on Spotify than it would on iTunes.
My fave didn't debut high and is falling already, does this mean they're flopping?
Not necessarily. Most songs debut relatively low as they aren't instantly well-known, and experience a sharp decline on Day 2 as they no longer have the promoted 'New Music Friday' effect. A lot of songs manage to recover through gaining popularity and additions to playlists. Exceptions to the rule of course come from massively hyped releases, such as the recent album impacts from Drake and Taylor Swift.

How often does the Spotify chart update?
It should update once every day, usually in the early afternoon - although on occasion there will be a delay.
What do the numbers mean?
The streaming figures cited in the daily chart are the number of streams each song received the previous day. Unlike the iTunes chart, Spotify is not a rolling chart so the numbers will only change once per day.

Now this I'll call the "this performer can do a lot better" section
Dua Lipa ~ Illusion
Eliza Rose and Calvin Harris ~ Body Moving
Calvin Harris and Rag'n'Bone Man ~ Lovers In A Past Life
Yes, that's hello to Dua Lipa and Calvin Harris. "Houdini" was such a big smash for me that had me fairly hyped up for the album ahead, ultimately what was more indicative was the follow-up release 'Illusion' which was fairly average for her and had been better done by 'Hallucinate'. Meanwhile Calvin Harris put out a few relative misfires in "Body Moving" (not the worthy successor to BOTA for Eliza Rose we had hoped for) and "Lovers In A Past Life" (which had been done much better 5 years ago as "Giant"). Even his Ellie Goulding collab was quite a step down from when he made it to #2 in last year's rundown with "Miracle", although that did do just about enough to make the list proper. Let's hope for a sound recalibration for Calvin Harris in 2025 now that he has put out his "96 Months" album/compilation.

Starting off the top 10 we have Ella Henderson further extending her chart career by going dance and sample-heavy once again, with help from a drum n bass production from Rudimental and sampling 'Pastime Paradise'/'Gangsta's Paradise'. The song took aim at her cheating man and told us no less than 12 times that he ain't got no, ain't got no, ain't got no alibi. I expect most of its disdain here came from how she used the sample and there'll be another of those a bit later on.
Central Cee has perhaps grown somewhat in Buzzjack's affections, having finished in the top three with 'Doja' and 'Let Go', his big hit of the year 'Band4Band' doesn't quite replicate that level of dislike. Although it was a big Dave-less Cench hit so it's still here. A fairly average UK drill track, it was "assisted" by American rapper Lil Baby who we really could do without although it certainly helped the song commercially.
'Beautiful Things' to much collective groaning (and naturally a few supporters too) became one of the year's monster smashes having entered in February and it taking up to Christmas for it to eventually depart the top 40 (for the time being). As a pop-rock ballad of two halves it manages to be both a rather boring slog and then way over the top with the belting later on. It was a close call for my least fave out of this and 'That's So True' although ultimately they would've placed the same either way.
Meanwhile the "winner" of the infamous rap battle here was Kendrick Lamar, whose 'Not Like Us' places well above Drake's effort but it was also a much bigger chart hit which may've helped. It was praised as one of the greatest diss tracks by critics and had a noticeably negative impact on Drake's reputation, though some here clearly found the whole thing very ugly and annoying to listen to - with four +12s it had the most of any song in competition. Kendrick has since released a surprise album following the nomination period so time will tell if any songs from that will be quite as disliked this time next year (unlikely).

The rap section :rap:
21 Savage ~ Redrum
Hanumankind ~ Big Dawgs (feat. Kalmi)
Megan Thee Stallion ~ Hiss
Not a lot of great rap hits in the year unfortunately but these ones stood out as being fairly interesting for the genre. Firstly 21 Savage who realised you could say murder on the radio if you spell it backwards and had a rather inspired sample choice in the production. A TikTok one hit wonder Hanumankind whose track very much fit the bill of a hype anthem and another standout for his delivery. Then the best diss track of the year, no not by Drake or Kendrick but Megan's less remembered track from earlier in the year which went so hard it inspired one of its targets Nicki to further embarrass herself with her response track.
and last but not least...
Charli XCX ~ Apple
Charli XCX ~ Girl, So Confusing (feat. Lorde)
Charli XCX ~ Guess (feat. Billie Eilish)
Charli XCX ~ Sympathy Is A Knife
Charli XCX ~ Von Dutch
