Spending a second year in the top 20 we have 'Levitating' as Dua Lipa's second-highest entry. The song remains as her biggest ever streaming hit across the rent-a-rapper version with DaBaby and the original solo album mix. After having taken a year out to recover from 'Radical Optimism' rumour has it we will get some new material around April of next year. Meanwhile the gap between Loreen and Kaarija has narrowed as 'Cha Cha Cha' remains at a very respectable 14th. He has the highest foreign language entry and is also the second-best performing male artist in this countdown. He recently made a re-appearance at Eurovision duetting with Baby Lasagna (whose similar hit hadn't quite so well with the forum). We say goodbye to a former winner in Carly Rae Jepsen. She ran away with the competition in her second year and continued a successful run after that never departing the top 40. The song now takes a small dip from last year's top 10 and now completes its decade. It was infamously not a UK top 40 hit despite following up a top 3 smash and receiving much critical acclaim, though ultimately helped her secure a loyal fanbase. RAYE also departs the top 10, although there has been significantly more competition this year in the upper region with three songs from 2024 still to come. 'Escapism' remains a big pop fave of recent times particularly with her more recent big smash 'Where Is My Husband' giving it a chart resurgence by association. I still wouldn't rule it out being a top contender in years to come. Just outside the top 10 we have the big comeback hit for Kylie, which provided her first UK top 10 in a decade much to Buzzjack's amazement and excitement. What are the chart rules regarding streaming? For streaming and chart rules related FAQs read the pinned thread regarding this. How many streams equals one download sale? 100 plays if you are on Spotify Premium, or 600 if you are using the ad-supported free tier. However you cannot simply play a song that many times in one day to give it one sale, you are limited to 10 plays per day in terms of what counts to the chart. The number changes to 200 or 1200 plays when a song moves to ACR. For more information on the rules of ACR see this thread. How much does streaming contribute to the chart? Streaming contributes over 90% to the singles chart as a whole. Spotify counts for at least half of this, with Apple Music and Amazon also big contributors. YouTube is also big however most of YouTube's streams are at the free tier so won't count for as much. Why is my fave not doing well? Is it being promoted on a major curated playlist, and/or going viral on TikTok? If it isn't, it's unlikely to really take off! Hot Hits UK is the biggest of these playlists on Spotify from a UK standpoint. The playlist usually updates itself to include breaking hits once or twice a week, though there is no guarantee that your fave will get a place on the playlist. Also, the UK Top 50 is a largely followed playlist and that songs often experience a 'top 50 effect', when they enter the top 50 and get the additional exposure of being on the playlist. Often sales hits don't cross over to being streaming hits, this is usually the case for songs with an older target audience, reality or campaign songs. Also keep in mind that it often takes longer for a song to take off on Spotify than it would on iTunes. My fave didn't debut high and is falling already, does this mean they're flopping? Not necessarily. Most songs debut relatively low as they aren't instantly well-known, and experience a sharp decline on Day 2 as they no longer have the promoted 'New Music Friday' effect. A lot of songs manage to recover through gaining popularity and additions to playlists. How about another big tumble from the top five to start off with? Losing a fair amount of support this year we have The Weeknd & Ariana's duet 'Save Your Tears' which is down to 30th after spending three straight years as a contender. It doesn't help that more recent material from Abel hasn't been quite so well received perhaps. We have quite a few gains in this section to make up for it however. Firstly completing their decade we have Mark & Bruno with one of the biggest hit singles of all time in 'Uptown Funk', a song that like with Hozier's in the last section really should've been placed in 2014 but precedent had allowed it to be delayed a year. It is the third year it has placed in the top 40 so pleasingly leaves out on a high. An indie fan fave is up next being the major breakthrough hit for Irish band Fontaines D.C. - 'Starburster' led their fourth and most successful album to date and was influenced by 90s trip-hop. Even more impressively up next we have a huge rebound for Avicii & Rita Ora - it is the first top 40 appearance for 'Lonely Together' which was the last hit Avicii had in his lifetime, leading his self-titled EP originally to be the first in a series of three before the idea was canned after his untimely passing. Perhaps a similar boost could be to come for Rita's other hit of 2017? Meanwhile Buzzjack has a new favourite Taylor Swift song. It's 'Anti-Hero', hi. The Zara Larsson new album effect gave 'Lush Life' a boost earlier on and this now extends to Clean Bandit collab 'Symphony', now spending a third year in the top 40. Likewise, Sam Fender's album impact gives 'Seventeen Going Under' a huge boost, now reaching a new peak in the top 40 for the first time. Some more dance efforts appear in this section with David Guetta's 'I'm Good' holding up well after its big second-year boost plus Gaga's 'Rain On Me' remaining her top hit.
