RabbitFurCoat's Top 100 Acts; 2003-2022
I'm going to start with the dozen most successful songs by acts who didn't reach the top 100. 12 Tokyo Police Club - Argentina (Parts I, II, III) Date Charted: 13/01/2014 Chart Run: 24-11-04-01-01-01-01-01-01-01-01-01-03-04-06-08-12-17-24-29-37 (21 weeks) There have been 373 songs reach number one in this almost 20 years, of which just eight of those have spent more than 6 weeks at the top, all but one of them getting just a 7th week, but in February and March of 2014 one song went two weeks further, with Tokyo Police Club spending 9 weeks at the summit with their 8 minute epic Argentina (Parts I, II, III), the lead single from their 5th album. They were a band who I had a bit of familiarity with previous work, this was their fourth chart entry and their previous peak was Tessellate reaching #9 in 2008, but never been that into. As the title suggests, the song is split into three distinct parts which are roughly 4:30, 1:30 and 2:30 in length. The first part is a classic upbeat sing-a-long indie anthem that on its own would almost certainly have been a multi-week number one, the second slows it right down before the third picks it up again. I've always enjoyed a good long song, but they have to keep you entertained for the full length and many don't, but Argentina really does and never feels like it's that long. A complete triumph of a song. At the end of 2014 I ranked this as my number one single of the year, and looking at the list I'd say it's still my favourite of it, and definitely a contender towards the top songs of the last decade. At 8:32 in length, it's the third longest song to hit the top. Tokyo Police Club Overall Rank: 306th 4MG6rKuCfyo

RabbitFurCoat's Top 100 Acts; 2003-2022
Hello and welcome to this countdown. As my Personal Chart is now 20 years old, I thought I’d count down my top 100 acts of this period based on chart success, which is why this somewhat random two-decade period of 2003-2022 has been chosen. Some geeky historical context first… As a kid in the mid-late 90s I became obsessed with the chart and would write down the top 40 each week, hopefully when listening to it but if not, getting it from Ceefax on Monday morning. After a while I started to re-order the top 40 in order of how much I liked the songs, an early version of what was a Personal Chart. This then morphed into my own chart in about 2001 where I only added the songs I liked and recorded them in stolen school textbooks. I'd only kept from 2003 onwards though so my database starts on January 6th 2003. For the first few years my new entries matched the release schedule and, just like the actual chart, the majority of songs peaked in week 1 as I’d been hearing them for a while already. I changed this in 2007 when I started charting songs once I begun to like them. I’ve always only tried to only chart singles but trying to determine what is or isn’t a single has become more difficult in recent years. In total there have been 5,166 charting songs which have featured around 2,185 different acts. Each song that’s ever charted is detailed in this thread. For this countdown a number of points have been given to each song, ranging from 80 (for reaching #1) to 11 (for a #40), as well as a point for each week spent on the chart. The minimum number of points an act can therefore have is 12, an ‘accolade’ shared by three; Ben Folds, Maria Haukaas Storeng and 65daysofstatic. For songs which have more than one featured artist, I have awarded equal full points to each act involved. I have combined some acts totals together where I’ve felt that has made sense (e.g. Kieran Hebden releasing music as Four Tet & KH), although they’re not all quite that clear cut. This will begin properly after I compile my last chart of the year (Saturday December 31st) where I shall post two acts per day, lasting until the middle of February. This target should be feasible a significant chunk is already written, I decided I wanted to do this some time ago so have been prepping since the summer. In the meantime, I will spend December warming up by posting something each day from acts outside the top 100. I hope you enjoy, all contributions welcome so I’m not just talking to myself!

FINAL: End Of Year Number 47 SURVIVOR
I have no real affinity for the Killers or this song, however this is correct so it's one of the easiest finals I'll vote in.

CONCACAF get 6 automatic places + playoffs in the new system, so there'd be very little chance of any of the three hosts not qualifying if they needed to.

Buzzjack's Favourite No 2 of The 90s
I don't really find it particularly surprising that Alice Deejay is top 5, probably more surprised that Manics are there if anything. Unsure what points I've given to these, I know one is my 30 pointer and another I'll have given big points to, the other three are all good but not sure what and how much I gave.

England vs USA
You always get a lot of overreaction to games like this but it's ultimately fine, a fair result and a dull game, that's ok. We're about 97% through after two games, great stuff. I thought England were better and the game less boring than the 0-0 with Scotland last year. England have made the semi final of a tournament five times, only one of those in 2018 (vs. Tunisia and Honduras) have they won both of their opening games. It's been 20 years since the World Cup winners got 9 points in their group.

Group B
A deserved win. Wales persisting with their stars despite being way below par. Taking Ampadu off and not Ramsey a terrible decision.
-
Confidence Man - TILT
I saw them last night, they are an absolutely incredible live band, certainly won't be the last time I see them. They ended the encore with the cover of Heaven, crowd went off as much as it did for Holiday.

Buzzjack's favourite non-top 10 hit of 2009
+12 Noisettes – Never Forget You 10 MGMT – Kids 8 Florence & The Machine – Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up) 7 Girls Aloud – Untouchable 6 Jamie T – Sticks 'N' Stones 5 Pet Shop Boys – Love Etc. 4 All-American Rejects – Gives You Hell 3 Little Boots – New In Town 2 Example – Watch The Sun Come Up 1 Deadmau5 & Kaskade – I Remember - 2 Britney Spears – Circus Without seeing the list, I think 12 of the 13 I voted for must have qualified. We Are The People and Rubber Lover deserved a point too.
-
N-Dubz - Charmer
A few thousand pissed off N-Dubz fans in Nottingham, thank God I was at home last night. I saw this story this morning as it had made local news and was looking at the comments, sounds like there were plenty of photos on social media of Dappy the night before having lots of fun, and they were quick to confirm tonight would go ahead which seemed odd to be so sure given he had 'flu' and 'lost his voice'. Couldn't quite recover from a massive comedown more like.

Round 1: End Of Year Number 48 SURVIVOR
Oooh this is a poor list. I'd rank Same Jeans as one of the worst songs of the landfill indie period and it's still in the top half of this selection.
-
Round 6: End Of Year Number 47 SURVIVOR
I've been voting for DJ Sammy every round so nice to finally move on. Got to be Hollaback Girl next, it's barely any better. Always thought it was terrible and the weak link in that run of singles she had.

Nuggets #15 - Confirmations
Last day for confirmations. Up to 24 entrants now

Group A
I quite liked seeing Qatar be so bad. I was expecting them to be at least ok given the preparations and recent history of the team, but Ecuador looked relatively comfortable all the time at 2-0 up and they let it turn into a borefest of a second half.

2022 Formula One Season
Didn't see any of today's race, and looking at the result it doesn't seem like one to bother catching up with, the only moves in the top 8 due to a retirement

Buzzjack's Favourite No 2 of The 90s
Both great songs, back-to-back in my own votes too Please Stardust out tomorrow! Ideally Wonderwall too, but I can't see that one.

Nuggets #15 - Confirmations
Up to 17 entries now. The rules might have changed to be more harsh than they once were to be honest, I sent The Joy Formidable last year who'd had albums reach 31 & 41, which isn't against these but discouraged. There's at least one entry so far that technically goes against those rules, but I wouldn't veto it. As Iz said, any kind of genre is fine as long as the guitar features prominently, so acoustic type songs are absolutely fine.
