I think I probably voted incorrectly when reading the question about best year for pop music as I was the only one to vote yes.

 

I kinda just jumped at it without thinking because this year has to be my favourite year in music since I can remember. All my favs have released and there have been so many great albums coming out left right and centre but most haven't been the type that would have singles from them in the charts and the pop charts actually have never been staler. Think my excitement at how musically great this year has been for me personally blinded me into forgetting the sorry state of chart music and pop in general.

 

I would say the only two great pop releases this year have been Britney and Ariana and only the latter's singles are doing anything chart-wise.

If 'Change Your Mind' doesn't at least come top 5 I'll be pissed.

This is so much more entertaining than X Factor this year.

 

Everyone is so great, probably the best standard I've ever seen.

Performance rate:

 

1. Relley C - 8.0/10.0 (I'm glad she pulled a good performance out the bag, not perfect but a very strong vocal)

2. Matt Terry - 7.5/10.0 (Sung very well but still unsure if perfect song for him)

3. Honey G - 7.0/10.0 (So wrong it felt so right, especially compared to some of the other boring performances)

4. Freddy Parker - 6.0/10.0 (Don't think this was as bad as people are making out; the piano part was great and he has a lovely tone. Did go a bit downhill but better than most)

5. Saara Alto - 5.0/10.0 (So Eurovision and so cheesy. She sung well but couldn't be less my thing and I find her personality insufferable)

6. Gifty Louise - 4.5/10.0 (Sorry, I think she's very poor vocally and not getting fuss; all one note and she didn't cope well with upbeat song)

7. Samantha Lavery - 4.0/10.0 (Shouting the song doesn't make you good love. No tone at all)

8. 5AM - 3.5/10.0 (Had been reasonably impressed up until now but their vocals, especially at beginning were terrible)

9. Emily Middlemass - 2.5/10.0 (What the hell was this? So wrong and sounded like a school talentshow performer)

10. Ryan Lawrie - 1.0/10.0 (So weak and non-descript it's almost offensive)

11. Bratavio - 0.0/10.0 (No comment. Go home)

 

Overall it was a terrible live show with hardly anyone sounding decent at all. I guess that's what happens when you get rid of the only good people in the rounds previously.

 

Honestly none of them seem deserving of winning X Factor at all.

92 on Metacritic, I am honestly so stoked for her.

 

Same score as 'Lemonade' and the joint 2nd most critically acclaimed album of 2016 thus far. What kind of new Jackson family.

Talent always wins.

 

This is by far and away one of the year's best albums.

I'm in agreement with that. I much prefered Jinkx myself over Alaska and still do. I was merely commenting on what a lot of people said a few years down the line when Alaska's music etc. was taking off and she did seem to be more successful than Jinkx. It did seem like a lot of fans changed to the 'Alaska was robbed' mode.

 

 

At this point I think any win would be questionable. Should Katya really win when she hasn't won any week outright yet? She is the only queen left not to win a lipsync so to have her win compared to Alaska who has won 3 would seem a bit strange.

 

This is feeling so Season 5 it's unreal. Katya will get public love due to them not wanting Rolaskatox to win and be happy that the nicest person won but then maybe question later down the line whether that win was really legitimate (seems like that happened after Season 5, with many people who may have supported Jinkx at the time claiming that Alaska should have been the winner of Season 5).

 

I do think it's a shame Rolaskatox keeping their friends in the competition has made them somewhat disliked by the viewers because all 3 of them have improved so much since their seasons and really are all fierce queens in their own right. It's a shitty situation but they have kind of brought the backlash on themselves.

Musically it's not that similar to 'Uptown Funk' at all. I think it is mainly the vocal delivery of the kind of half-talked quotable verses.

Who on earth is this meant to appeal to?

I love the autotuned parts.

 

This song is as if Bruno, Daft Punk, Mark Ronson and Pharrell made a supergroup. I'm even hearing a bit of TLC 'Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg' in there too.

I'm kind of glad 'Blended Family' is only an instant grat for the moment.

 

The more I listen to it the more I love it, it is so classic Alicia. So beautifully melodic and so well put together. I just kinda want something a bit more punchy for the second single seeing as 'In Common' sounded so fresh and exciting and this sounds fantastic but more in a 'it could have appeared on any of her other albums' kinda way.

Everyone is doing it too much saying it sounds exactly like 'Uptown Funk'. It actually reminds me more of 'Signs' than anything else.

 

It is great fun and sounds classic already. Wasn't expecting it to be this great.

Alaska's behaviour was so off-putting. I never took to her on Season 5 and wondered how she became one of the most popular queens ever.

 

To be fair, if she does win then fair enough because she has been slaying all (apart from this weeks challenges) and is clearly fantastic at what she does. I just can't warm to her on a personal level in the slightest, especially not with that forced speaking voice and her throwing the toys out the pram. Not for me.

 

I would be much happier with a Detox or Katya win. Probably the former for me actually as I find Detox to by far the most likable in the Rolasktox clique and she has had the best runways of the season by a mile. Although Detox made the wrong decision sending Alyssa home I did feel much more remorse from her in her decision than Alaska has shown to any of her shitty elimination decisions. Also she really has proved to be a much fiercer queen than I ever thought she was. This week again her runway was gag worthy and she did fantastically overall with the challenge. Not that it matters as its clearly going to be Alaska vs. Katya.

The amount of times Jessica pretended to drop the antiques was by far the episode highlight. Hysterical.

The label tweeted back a picture of The Joker with the caption 'lol' so clearly they were unimpressed.

Also it is looking like it is actually going to be #1 in the US, would be quite something.
