I think it should be talked about more, the charts are representative of what is being listened to, but with Jack Saunders acting shocked when a song falls to ACR the public are clearly not well informed. If more publicity is given to it people will realise it is doing a decent job with an imperfect system. It would be great for more songs to break through - so many which would have been big hits a few years ago, even by artists who are not that long in the tooth - but we are never going to be back in the 90s/2000s position where you had songs entering the top 10 and then a 4 week chart run and out. Still happens occasionally but very rare. Things have changed but the same happened with downloads, it was a sea-change and took a while for people to catch on. Streaming is here to stay and it would be wrong for them to ignore it, and I think despite its faults they are doing a good job of representing what is being listened to.

Been thinking this week, I wonder which songs from 2023 are going to have an extended top 40 run into next year. This year we’ve had Calm Down, Anti-Hero, As It Was etc. which hung around for a long time for numerous reasons (indeed Calm Down is currently number 40!) Guess some released in the next month or so before the Christmas takeover, but wonder if how ACR is generally working at the moment the chart is starting to speed up and songs which would have had 20 week runs are now exiting earlier.

Forgive me if I'm being blind, but I wondered if anywhere on Buzzjack there had been a thread of songs that reached the top 100 but missed the top 40? Or if anyone has a relatively recent resource where this could be found without having to trawl through every week on the OCC website (there needs to be a better search system by chart position)! I'm doing this playlist at the moment and plan to do back to 2000 (maybe 90s), discover some new music!
