It's no wonder that Google and Apple is trying to get into the game. Amazon won't be too far behind. http://www.billboard.com/biz/articles/1550...iption-services Warner Music Inks Deal With Google for Music Subscription Services Right now, subscription music mostly relies on word of mouth. When Google/Apple launch their own, there will be a big marketing push for it (in order to gain market share). It will only make subscription music more popular. Both Itunes/AmazonMP3 pays 70% to the right holders. Subscription music also pay 70% to the right holders (per Spotify). 8. Someone fact checked my "prediction" and the top 10 work out perfectly. Quoting MusicTalker on ATRL So, here's how points worked out. My scale is the same, I just multiplied everything by 12 so that download #s were the base. I prefer it that way. 1 Harlem Shake 262000 + 3000 + 2747000 = 3012000 2 Thrift Shop 412000 + 179000 + 269000 = 860000 3 Stay 306000 + 40000 + 104000 = 450000 4 Scream & Shout 158000 + 158000 + 128000 = 444000 5 I Knew You Were Trouble 149000 + 219000 + 75000 = 443000 6 Ho Hey 7 Locked Out of Heaven 8 When I Was Your Man 217000 + 88000 + 69000 = 374000 9 Suit & Tie 201000 + 117000 + 53000 = 371000 10 Started from the Bottom 168000 + 48000 + 147000 = 363000 Works perfectly! Will be fixing my thread soon. :wooparty: The new formula is Sales / 12 Airplay / 7500 Overall Streaming / 450 Which mean 1 sales = 625 radio airplay = 37.5 stream 200,000 sales = 125 million AI = 7,500,000 stream 300,000 sales = 187.5 million AI = 11,250,000 stream #10 in streaming last week was "I Knew You Were Trouble with 2.8 million. 2.8 million streams is the equivalent of 74,666 SALES or 46.7 million AI
  9. Remember this? 10. http://www.billboard.com/biz/articles/news...sic-market-down In France, subscription increased 50.1% from last year compare to 11.8% for digital downloads. Subscription: 33.8 million euro (trade value) ---50.1% increase from 2011 Digital downloads: 63 million euro (trade value) --11.8% increase from 2011 I wouldn't be surprised if in 2-3 years, subscription surpasses Itunes/AmazonMP3 in France.
  11. Record labels want to sign them. They said no. Why settle for 10% of revenue when you can get 70% of revenue?
  12. Itunes/Amazon MP3 pays the right holders 70% of the revenue. They keep 30%. This is very common knowledge for those that follow the music biz. Spotify recently said they pay 70% of their revenue as royalties. As for what an artist get from signing with a major label: http://www.musicbizacademy.com/articles/dl_newmedia.htm Artist iTunes Royalty (with wholesale markup) $0.99 download single song price to the consumer less $0.29 to Apple left $0.70 x 130% (wholesale markup) x 12% (net artist net rate) = $0.1092 cents per download Artist iTunes Royalty (without wholesale markup) $0.99 download single song price to the consumer less $0.29 to Apple left $0.70 x 12% (net artist net rate) = $0.084 cents per download I use 10% since that's about the average
  13. http://www.collegiatetimes.com/stories/212...dustry-standard Advantage of owning your song/your own label: You get 70% of the revenue from Itunes/Amazon/Spotify. If you sign to a major label: You get around 10% of the revenue from Itunes/Amazon/Spotify. The major label gets 60%. If MACKLEMORE & RYAN LEWIS get #1 in the UK Singles Chart, when was the last time that an unsigned artist achieve this? Before 2013, the last time that happened in the USA was in 1994 with this song. ka9mCmx9Jhs
  14. http://www.digitalmusicnews.com/permalink/2012/120604youtube If Spotify doesn't have the "FREE USERS" like Rhapsody, it would pay at around Rhapsody rate. But the free user is Spotify best way to convert more users to paid (1 out of 4 will convert) even though it is losing money on each free user.
