Well, the thing is......CD's are worth nothing really, unless they are rare in some way. I place more value on something made from 1960 than the recent past. I did replace all my fav. non-Elvis vinyl with CD's in the 1990's. This recent EP collecting craze of mine is about music, but still about collectable "objects". Except for the 2 out of about 30 EP records I bought with "skips"(Love Me Tender 45 and GI Blues LP), you would be amazed at the digitalized versions I made. De-click software is now amazing. And the version I bought was from 3 years ago. There is something to be said by getting around 30 records of Elvis and only 2 had minor skips: People -OBVIOUSLY- placed more emphasis on their storage and cleanliness than say...the Beatles or Stones, etc. I've bought them from many sellers and it's been 95% positive. I'd say folks really cared for their Elvis music. Says a lot for Mr. Presley. If he were here now he'd probably say, "you better take care of my records kids!"

I've still been buying Elvis vinyl. Most of it, 45's or LP's, has been good. "GI Blues" had 3 skips on side 2 which bugs me. But I got much more stuff of fine quality. I've got a pretty nice EP collection now but I think I'll give it a rest. Christmas-time is a bad time to do mail transactions.......and as I said, it's an addiction! Some of his LP's now are my favs! I mean...as in, listening to regularly for pleasure. The digitalized versions I made of course. Once played, they are sealed. I'm liking him mostly from 1955 to 1965. But......Moody Blue, I love that album. Some of the French and Canadian offerings are fine compilations. I've definately changed. Elvis was bad to the bone. We all know that. I remember once.....in the mid to late 70's, my best high school buddies(two brothers) had a mom who adored Elvis. She dated an older man who was working on an oil painting of Elvis(the dude painted quite well).....as I watched. I wonder if that painting is hanging famously somewhere. It was quite good.

Well, now the problem is: payday has come. I want a -nice- copy of Kissin' Cousins LP. I need to slow down on my Vinyl spending. But I suppose I won't!

Not bad! I am collecting vintage vinyl still.(budget permitting!) I would enjoy hearing about vinyl collections. Whatcha got on vinyl? Jim A footnote: I find myself liking to listen to my fav. artists on vinyl lately(not just Elvis). De-click software is so good now(I use Acoustica Spin It Again). I'll play an LP while in real time the software removes the noise and my PC line out goes to a 12ch mixer to my reciever. Anyone else prefer the sound of vinyl to CD's? Things just sound FATTER with vinyl. Jim

Wow! It's amazing he(EP) could even speak after all that! My vocal cords get tired after just humming "Just Tell Her Jim Said Hello"! One question: Does anyone on here actually own a copy of -EVERY- song on that list? That would be something......

Duh! Sorry. That movie ended with EP in 1969. Hence no drug use. Sorry for my lack of research. Jim

Favourite Elvis Song Of The Day
Hey man, don't throw your PC out the window! PC's are fun! Imagine this: I bought my first(8088 IBM compatible with monochrome monitor) around 1989. All for music, not long after I bought a PC-MIDI card from 12-tone(Cakewalk), installed it and was recording songs in no time! That beloved PC is long gone RIP. What was my topic? Oh yeah....I mentioned I work night shift in a dorm for visually impaired kids(some mentally challenged). Which means I "wake them up" at 6am. After being on this site for a week or so, I figured what the heck. There's a PC with speakers near their rooms(they all play MP3's when they wake anyway). I had a 4 day weekend(during which I watched all those EP movies) then returned to work and woke them at 6AM with "Devil in Disguise"-link generously provided by another fan here. One guy yelled "Play Houndog Jim!". Next morning, 6AM I wake them with Jailhouse Rock. Then the previously requested Hound Dog. "Play Jailhouse Rock again Jim!" 40 or more years later....these dudes want to hear EP. Okay......what next? Heartbreak Hotel I am thinkin'......just in good fun......It is a great way to end my shift and make them happy. Although I think some of the guys want the dorm to open up to ACDC or Ozzy. I am obviously having fun with this..... Jim

Elvis: The flicks.
Hello. I finally got a copy of Elvis:The Movie 1979. I'm convinced no one could have done the job other than Kurt Russell. It was very good, although I saw it in "the day"once(I love it when he shoots the TV). I found it interesting that EP talked to his twin brother even towards the end. The only thing was, there was no mention of the pills. In 1979 they could have at least shown a shot of some pill bottles on a shelf without any network controversy. It was a fine 2.5 hour movie that documented his life and Kurt was fandamtastic. There was only one scene with him cuddling his daughter at the piano, other than that, his child was absent in the story(except birth). Well, I enjoyed it, I hope my new "Preslarian" freinds all have this movie on DVD, VHS etc....It's good. Highly reccommended.........A fine visual of "the King's" life. Jim

Elvis: The flicks.
Hmm. Interesting. I managed to make it thru all of EP's movies. I did skip/browse thru some of the weaker ones-Charro comes to mind(bad!). Change of Habit I watched all the way thru since it was his last film(as an actor). And also because I remember my mother took me to see it in '69 or '70. I was around 9. Why it was just her and me I can't remember. Why it was an Elvis movie I can't remember either, he wasn't spoken of much in my home as a kid. I guess it was a random happening. All I remember was it was more serious of a role for him than I was used to hearing about at the time, and I saw it with my mom. Now having watched it in the future, it was a little more intense for 1969 than I remembered. With references and words involving sex, racism and drug abuse. For '69 and with Elvis(and MT Moore), that was pushing "Easy Rider" territory for both of them. I guess my fav. will be "Love me Tender" since he acted so well.....pretty much as good as Sean Penn or whoever in recent times. But the "fun" ones: the racing movies. Whether cars or boats. "Kissin' Cousins" bordered on X rated for that era. Well, fun stuff......about half of it. My 2 pesos worth. Jim

"Devil In Disguise". Just got the original 45 in the mail. Put it thru my software. A great copy BTW. Good sleeve and all. I love the ABAB structure of the song. It's like two songs in one! There's nothing like taking something old, getting your turntable mat dirty, then having a cleaned result! Jim

Thank you for that Tilly! I have that exact record(as of a week ago)! But when I want to hear it, I'll come here! Jim

PS: It's funny how I'm quickly picking up on Elvis' history. I heard 2 songs on an LP of movie hits and quickly found them in the "Double Trouble" and "Frankie and Johnnie" movies. But I'll tell ya, I visited 2 or more "lyric" websites for EP and his "song-ography" is HUNDREDS long.......a lot more to enjoy and compile. Could take years.....But fun. Perhaps I'll polish up/restring my stratocaster and maybe get some tabs of EP songs. Better keep the FX on the strat pretty clean, they were back then, except for a little cheezy tremolo. I've enjoyed seeing some now-worth-$75,000 guitars in these movies. Gibson, Danelectro, etc......I wonder who owns them now...... Jim

Yes indeedy, I just spotted Shelley in Clambake along with "The Incredible Hulk". So he(Bixby) has 2 Elvis movies. I was sad to see Bixby's end from cancer, the tabloids made his end terrible in one youtube interview I saw. He said something along the lines of "You can't even die in peace." I've had more records roll in. More of the late 50's early 60's 45 rpm EP's(with picture sleeves) and a cupla singles. The most awaited one, Love Me Tender EP 1956, has a NEAR MINT cover. Superb condition. Unfortunately the vinyl was in pretty bad shape. But as we know, the cover is the main attraction now. I'll take a rest from my new addiction but one day get a Love Me Tender EP with a bad picture sleeve and a near mint record, then make "one good one". Still 6 on my list have not arrived yet(out of 30, I got dog nuts in late Sept.). No more for a while. Got a couple of the Camden label 1970's (still in shrink wrap) 33rpm LP's. Almost CD quality even without declick software. I'm finding LP's sound a lot better than 45's even if 45's are more "collectable". It's also a pain to discwash 45's compared to LP's. So far my needle is holding up(on the turntable). 45's leave a dirty residue on the turntable mat, so I have to rinse it periodically. Have fun Presley fans.....I am. Jim

Man, did I score. Before I registered here I bought a -bunch- of rare Elvis 45's on Ebay. They just got here. The picture sleeves are in FINE condition for 40 to 50 years old! Fans must have been asleep when I won these bids. I'd say they were only about 7 dollars each including shipping. I have not played the records but they look fine. I'll get to it soon. I got the EPA-4114 "Jailhouse Rock" with -5- songs. The only other EPA 45 I have has 4 songs. I have the 47-7777 "It's Now Or Never" and 4 others.......I put them all in outer plastic sleeves awaiting ONE play only. This is so cool and fun. I've made a vow tho, to stay off Ebay till November. It's like an addiction! Gotta pay the light bill first, right? Anyway.......thats my EP moment for today. I'll keep these safe and as I don't know any Elvis fans I should make a will(I'm 50 BTW), and name one of you fine people as the recipient of these "goods" if I croak! Just kidding but true as I would like a real EP fan to have these. I watched "Spinout-1966" last night. So retro and fun. Shelly Fabrey(sp?) must have been in at least 2 Elvis movies before her demise on 70's and later sitcoms. Wasn't she the wife on the show "Coach"? There were several sitcoms prior, all short lived. She was a cutie tho. Have a nice day Elvis fans. I am. Jim

That was really cool, thanks! So much to explore, so much to see.......I seem to be drawn more to the early Rock 'n Roll music. But that's just me, always into rock 'n roll. My 2 pesos worth. Jim

Oh man, I'd love to get my hands on some of the Sun originals. Good luck Jim, yes I know......but the RCA Victor 1955 and up will do fine! What -IS- funny....I see some "Elvis paraphernalia" going around on Ebay. A tie and cufflinks(with a picture of the King wearing them), or a sweater he wore, etc......all with a letter(s) of authenticity. His hair dresser or his secretary said this or that.... I really don't think you could rely on any documentation like that. How could you? It's cloth and metal. But records have serial numbers/meticulous proven documentation. And since EP was about MUSIC, I'll stick to that. Vinyl....and film....that was what he was about. I saw paper folder scripts from 2 movies Johnny Cash did(one film I had seen a dozen times) go up, up, up in value on Ebay(if they were the real deal) then sell at a high price. I'd like a script copy from Speedway, you know the movie where EP and Bill Bixby(Incredible Hulk) go to the IRS office and dance as they wait to see the tax guy. That would be good, Bixby's copy would do fine. I'm sure Elvis' copy is at Graceland under lock and key. There is so much more for me to learn and explore. Don't think for a minute this is about making a buck. Anything I buy is mine forever.....even the white pressing of "Moody Blue", if I find one!! But the music is the real thing. That's what EP was all about. Once I record an LP or 45 to my hard drive, I only listen to the WAV file. Jim

Hello again. Yes it was his last. I googled around some since my last post. "Moody Blue" included several new studio tracks EP had done in late '76, but not enough to fill an LP. So some live songs were added. I liked the new trax. They sounded like.....Elvis said several times the music business changes very fast and you have to change with it(and he did, he was extremely adaptable). The instrumentation sounded very much like in keeping with the hits of the time to me. A little Lynyrd Skynyrd and other influences going on. The live stuff was not unlike "Aloha from Hawaii" 1973(which is a great live LP I bought and digitalized, I want the video!). The album was released a month or 2 prior to his death on black vinyl sometime in the summer of '77. Then switched to blue vinyl. Whether the switch to blue was before or after his death I don't know. Then later re-issues went back to black viinyl. What -IS- something of note: there were a scant few "promo" pressings made in white vinyl that are like the holy grail if you find one! I saw one for sale on an Elvis record site, and the bidding was up to $1500!! I'm loving this. Now I'm going after the EP's, 45RPM records that had 4 songs on each released on RCA from his movies, with picture sleeves. An EP from "Love me Tender" is on it's way. I'll never part with them. Jim

Hi. You need to hear the Moody Blues version of "This is the Moment"(from the 1994 Time Traveller". Excellent. Currently listening to EP "Moody Blue" LP. Jim

Hi freinds. EP came up twice today. I took my GF to a certain thrift store she likes since she wanted the halloween items(outfits/wigs/etc) they sell every Oct. While she was doing her thing I thumbed thru some racks of vinyl and found a copy of "Moody Blue". In pretty good condition, the blue vinyl pressing. Both the black and the blue vinyls were released in 1977, but I'm unsure as to whether the blue pressing was posthumous. Still I'm a little sad as I looked this up on Ebay before I became a member here(and tonight on Wikipedia), only to find out it was his last record(perhaps while still alive). Can anyone confirm this? Anyway I'm enjoying it and have to remark that EP had incredible dynamic range! I actually had to turn my PC's recording levels down to accomodate his range. Funny how I now get into vinyl so much again. I always kept mine thru the decades. Very heavy to move but worth it. What's fun is to take a 1960 45rpm single or "Moody Blue" and run it thru de-click software. Sounds better than a CD. Fatter, more "punch". Anyone else do this for fun? The 2nd EP occurance....we came home, the UT Texas Longhorns lost for the 2nd week in a row (to Oklahoma), then I surfed to the movie "3000 Miles to Graceland" where several Elvis impersonators rob a Las Vegas Casino. You know the flick. A fun day. Jim

I would love to. I LOVE THAT AVATAR! That is so cool and funny. I guess I'm working my way up to which-ever movie it is from(prob. a concert tho), I'm up to 1962(Follow That Dream). This is extremely fun and I think I know why. It's like a time machine. Getting these songs/albums and movies takes me back actually before my birth(1960). Songs and scripts that have no apocalyptic messages or mentions of current world enigmas. EP was an incredibly perfect representative of fun, simple pastimes, simple pleasures, simple losses, no complex issues.....mainly joy. Most of what I've listened to in the last 30+ years is now called "Prog-Rock". Very dark but arty and mostly from England. Genesis, Mike Oldfield, Pink Floyd etc...music that didn't really convey a lot of Joy, mainly thought provoking but mostly bleak and dark. With so many instruments and arty changes that you forgot joy altogether. EP makes me relax. Tony Banks of Genesis was not "Bad to the Bone" because he could superbly manipulate $20,000 worth of keyboards at a hockey arena sitting behind Phil Collins in 1980. I never hear his name spoken.......anywhere. Although he was/is a hero of mine. I work in a school and today I heard a 14 YO kid spontaniously do an Elvis impersonation for no reason. This is what makes EP "Bad to the Bone". 33 years gone now.....and kids still want to be like him. Jim
