  2. Wow! Really? :o Never Leave You is my 2nd favourite 2009 song. :D

Never Leave You was about 7th for me, he was my favourite artist for his releases that year :)

Shame he hasn't reproduced anything of similar quality to his catch 22 era

  3. I can see adele breaking into the top 10 best selling albums in the uk definitely and probably top 5, I just can't see it breaking into top 3. I just think that 21 is one of those albums that comes along at exactly the right time and there is so much hype about it, that it sells amazingly in a year. However, with the top 3, all of those artists are legendary tbh, they were highly successful and were the frontrunners of their genre at the time (e.g. Abba during the late 70's era of disco music). That sole fact enables them to shift numerous copies for years and years and years even when they haven't released any new material. While Adele is a very big artist, she isn't yet at the same stage as those 3 in terms of status, so won't be able to shift as many albums in the long run as the top 3. However, there is still the possibility that if she is once again successful with her next album ( in this climate clearing 1.25 million with the album), that 21 will be able to become a catalogue seller in the same vein as sergeant peppers lonely hearts club band is for the beatles in that it is regarded by the public as that particular artists greatest work.
  4. Very few? This week may be a bit sparse but the last three weeks have each seen at least two very high profile new entries in the top five, there's been a lot more movement in the charts lately!

Taste is obviously a different matter, personally I think mainstream music has picked itself up after a dull couple of months.

That is a good point about the previous few weeks although for about a month before it, there were very few releases which for me were very poor in quality (see She makes me wanna and swagger jagger). I will agree with you that in the last few weeks it has picked up, it's just that for me in terms of the two month timescale, July and the beginning of August were unforgivably bad, so if you're wondering how I formed my opinion about it being terrible, the first half of the month has had a big influence on that.

  5. Collide  #8

Use Somebody  #51  Still sounds epic after this long!!

Use Somebody deserves to be King's of Leon's million seller, it is miles better than sex on fire, although hopefully with the increased awareness of the song, it can help the song get to a million at some point in the next year or 2

  6. Yeah. Very strange. I found the top 10 of the decade, and it's true! :o

    1. Mariah Carey - We Belong Together - A deserving song to be #1 of the decade imo.

    2. Usher - Yeah!

    3. Flo Rida ft. T-Pain - Low

    4. Nickelback - How You Remind Me :o

    5. Black Eyed Peas - I Gotta Feeling

    6. Alicia Keys - No One

    7. Black Eyed Peas - Boom Boom Pow

    8. Mario - Let Me Love You

    9. Kanye West ft. Jamie Foxx - Gold Digger

    10. Timbaland ft. One Republic - Apologize

It looks so out of place.

The UK's top 10 of the decade was embarrassing compared to that.

Agreed, that is a great top 10 for a decade that many people think is comfortably the worst since chart music began

  7. Good grief! How on Earth did it get so popular!? It's not exactly the type of song people in the US tend to like. Was there some sort of controversy around the song which made it really popular or something? Or did everyone just happen to like that song, but no other rock songs?

I think it was also the most played song on the radio over the decade which explains it's ridiculously high position on that US end of decade chart

  8. Wow. That'd be amazing if it did it. I don't think we'll ever see a song like that at #1 in the UK ever again tbh.

A bit shocking that the US have only had two of those sorts of songs at #1 in the past 10 years though!! :o :o How You Remind Me was rather big though. It was the year-end #1! Their charts have really been varying up recently. You've got Party Rock Anthem being a hit on one end of the spectrum, a song that would never have got popular even 3 years ago, and then Pumped Up Kicks on the very other end of the spectrum! And RnB music seems practically dead everywhere around the world now.

How You Remind Me i think ended up 4th on the billboard hot 100 end of decade charts!!!!!

  9. Collide #7 :o This has had an itunes run similar to an OA/OS single, with a peak, then falling fast. She should be able to get some good sales though with more promo and airplay

Snow Patrol at #13... This isn't going top 10 then i guess :(

I have a feeling it might make top 10 although I'm not sure when, normally rock groups usually peak on itunes the day after the release of a song, however snow patrol have climbed around 10 places since Monday, so i think with continued airplay from radio 1 where it is A-List, it's got a decent chance as there are very few high profile releases in the next few weeks (apart from One Direction And Dappy).

  10. 71. Example & Skream - Shot Yourself in the Foot Again - Hope this gets top 75 this week!

    221. Maroon 5 - Misery - Glad to see this back. Such a catchy song, that deserved to do better last year.

    233. Leona Lewis - Run

    429. Olly Murs - Busy

    448. Tim Berg - Seek Bromance

    502. Rizzle Kicks - Prophet

    794. Christina Aguilera - Show Me How You Burlesque

    882. Calvin Harris - Flashback

    890. Pixie Lott - Cry Me Out

    985. The Saturdays - Missing You - See, it wasn't that frontloaded. Although Flo Rida and Eminem's songs are still in the top 200.

Seek bromance is such a tune, shame it was released in the same week as promise this, only girl in the world, the flo rida remix of higher and check it out (I'm not sure about the last two) and couldn't break into top ten :(

  11. Perhaps proving 2010 was far from being a vintage year, here is the year breakdown of the remaining 25 songs.

    2010 - 1

    2009 - 2

    2008 - 2

    2007 - 6

    2006 - 0 (highest placed: Who Knew - 29th, 4th in 2006 game)

    2005 - 5

    2004 - 6

    2003 - 1

    2002 - 1

    2001 - 0 (highest placed: Can't Get You Out Of My Head, 53rd, 1st in 2001 game)

So 2004, 2005 and 2007 somewhat classic years then!

There are still five acts who have more than one entry left. Bizarrely, despite plenty of acts having more than two entries, none of the five have had an appearance in the final yet. They are

Jay-Z (both as featured artists), Britney Spears, The Killers, Robyn and even though they've suffered so many falls, Sugababes!

I shocked about how few entries that certain years still have left especially 2006 and how 2005 has the second most entries left when IMO, it was one of the poorer years in this game.

  12. That comment is quite laughable, couldn't be far from the truth, I mean Pixie's debut album has sold over 1million worldwide and over 825,000 in The United Kingdom, when artists struggle to sell 200,000. Pixie's already had 2 number one singles and has had much more success than Maroon 5.

Tbh, that's debatable IMO as Maroon 5 do have an album which has sold nearly 2 million and have had top 5 singles such as this love, makes me wonder and she will be loved all of which have had better longevity than either of pixies no.1's

  13. As far as the lyrics go, All About Tonight is one of the most generic, cliched 'off the time' songs ever made. The only thing missing is a hideous name drop of places including London, Africa and at least one big American city.

You forgot about Ibiza as well :P

  14. 1) Pixie Lott- All About Tonight

    2) Maroon 5- Moves Like Jagger

    3) Saturdays- All Fired Up

    4) Leona Lewis- Collide

    5) Example- Stay Awake

    6) Olly Murs- Heart Skips A Beat

    7) Sean Kingston- Party All Night

    8) Calvin Harris- Feels So Close

    9) Christina Perri- Jar Of Hearts

    10) Ed Sheeran- You Need Me I Don't Need You

    11) Wretch 32- Don't Go

    12) Bruno Mars- Marry You

    13) Adele- Someone Like You

    14) Coverdrive- Lick Ya Down

    15) Will Young- Jealousy

    1) Aloe Blacc- I Need A Dollar

    2) Nicki Minaj- Fly

    3) 7

    4) 5

    5) 2

    6) Dev- The Night The Sun Came Up

  15. Again, 'Like a G6'. There's NO WAY the label would put the artists alphabetically like iTunes did: (The) Cataracs, Dev & Far East Movement, as everyone related the song firstly to Far East Movement, and they got into the shadows because of The Cataracs & Dev before them. That damaged the first week sales for the song quite a lot.

releasing it on a friday didn't help either
