When will Chasing Cars pass 1 million?
You know it's funny, I find 'How to save a Life' and 'Chasing Cars' sound very similar, both being desperately gawdawful dirges, yet you hate HTSAL but love CC. No accounting for taste, is there :)

Indeed. A sale is a sale and as such helps the music industry. Whether it's detrimental to the charts is different and is of course a matter of opinion.....

Thank you for providing that final option on the poll!

Indeed. 'Wild Thing' at least is such a well known track that I wouldn't have been surpreised to see it even under normal circumstances but it's not even top 1500. Still it's early yet and if people are only just finding out now about the death then it won't have registered yet.

I really rather like it, it's very 'reflective'. But I never expected a 'Life on Mars'. I also didn't expect it to be no.1 on iTunes either, considering that a small but loyal fanbase would give him a top 75 entry overall. Although the general consensus here is that it's chart ineligible anyway.

There was a 52 week limit at one stage some years ago. A sale is a sale, it's no less legitimate for an old song than for a new release. If people are buying it, then it should be reflected in the chart, simple as that.

Even my 70 year old Dad has heard of 'Gangnam Style'. And when that happens you know it's not just got a degree of cultural impact but a true *phenomenon*.

Some sales figures from OCC Twitter
It was only a minor hit, unlike 'Mr Blobby, and should long since have passed into obscurity. I suspect those two sales were by mistake, people thinking they were downloading 'Mr Blobby'

I've just youtubed this. I can't make up my mind whether it's brilliant or terrible. Hope it makes the T40 overall, so Radio One have to play it!

The End Of HMV
£5 is what I recall albums costing 30 years ago, so in real terms they are incrediably cheap compared to then.

First no1 of 2013
At last somebody who agrees with me! By gift card week it will have sold around 800k. Would there really be around 60 thousand people who haven't already got it willing to buy it in that first chart week of the year? Yes, there will be a sales increase, a New Year boost, people who danced Gangnam Style at a New Year's Eve party. This coupled with almost everything else falling (and no significant new releases) it will rise a fair few places. But as you say, perhaps no.5 at best.

First no1 of 2013
Gangnam style no chance. I think people are grossly exaggerating the potential for this track to somehow reach no.1 again in the New Year. It's already been no.1, selling consistently for weeks and sold almost 700k and it's likely to drop out of the top 10 this week. Yes, there will be a New Year party boost that week and coupled with the general collapse in sales should see it rise a fair few places, but no.1? No chance.

And still selling more than the rest of the top 21 tracks combined. And we've not even had the physicals yet! OK the competition was relatively weak and there is the charity effect as well, but even so sales are going to be *massive*.

XF Winners Song...
The world is ending, haven't you heard? Something to do with the Mayan calender coming to the end of one of it's cycles. But look on the bright side, at least you won't have to bother buying any Christmas presents......

I'm going for Xmas #1 again
I don't think he's got a chance of no.1 overall, but I don't mean that in a disparaging way. The Hillsborough thing has got Christmas no.1 sewn up this year, it's inevitable, nothing else will come even remotely close. Getting to no.1 on the iTunes chart is a far more realistic target.

This year's new year effect
Indeed. How do you think I managed to complete my Gary Glitter collection?

What albums will sell 100k+ in a week this December?
That is pretty meaningless to be honest, you could say that about *any* track. No.1 on iTunes with one version or combined? Even combined I'd say highly unlikely. It will get something of a boost from gift card week but that's about it. I think it will hang around the 5-10 positions overall until that week then plummet. If it was in contention for no.1 in the New Year it would be on course to be a million seller, given that it has sold 620k to date. I think that is correct, 7 weeks. However it's already been 8 weeks since Gangnam style was at no.1, so if it did make in in the New Year it would smash that record.

- What albums will sell 100k+ in a week this December?
Plus wan't it also reduced to 59p?- What albums will sell 100k+ in a week this December?
I know it's hanging around at the moment and it's something of a party record that obviously suits the festive season, but I very much doubt it will have the 'legs' to still be in contention for that week. You're still talking 50-60k in sales. Edit: The 50-60k in sales is actually for the second chart week of the year, not the first. You'd need substantially more than that to make no.1 in that week.- Sunday music stats
I doubt it. And I suspect it has always been the case. The pre rock 'n' roll era charts (prior to 1955) probably had a somewhat higher age though.- Sunday music stats
Top 40 in 'dominated by young people' shocker.- Christmas #1 chart battle
My understanding is that it will fund legal expenses of some sort. That's not the normal kind of cause for a charity single and I think it might put some people off. - What albums will sell 100k+ in a week this December?
