If they play it they'll be accused of poor taste, if the don't they'll be accused of censorship. Damned if they do and damned if they don't. However they aren't obliged to play anything. If there is a track with offensive lyrics and no radio edit then they won't play it. Same with this, the lyrics are offensive in the context in which the track is being bought, so I don't think they will play it.
  2. Yes really. And that's *my* opinion, just as you have yours......
  3. Whatever you might think of Thatcher, it's in pretty poor taste.
  4. Let's get ready to grumble!
  5. 'Gangnam Style' was never meant to be taken seriously either, but the big difference is that's a really good track (In my opinion of course) In short, it doesn't matter what the intention behind a song is, you either like it or you don't. And that's just personal taste, there's no absolute right or wrong about it.
  6. I wouldn't go quite that far, but it's still rubbish. Of all the 1994 tracks to suddenly do well, why this one? It was awful back then and it hasn't aged well either.
  7. I was really just making a joke there by saying 'Who?' The Who never had a no.1 and they are most certainly a 'legendary' act.

They did have a hit with 'Leeds United' in 1972, however that was under the name of 'Leeds United FC' Coincidentaly that also reached no.10 but spent rather longer than a single week on the chart!
  9. But Peter Kay doesn't sing this song, Tony Christie does.
  10. It's stabilising even now, I expect it to start dropping later today. Most people who were prompted to buy it due to Comic Relief will have bought it on the night or will do so today when the event is still fresh in their minds. I'd say no chance of no.1 next week or anyway near. In fact I expect it to start falling at a 'comical' rate early next week :)
  11. Oh yeah, I forgot you really hate that one!
  12. Who else apart from Jimmy Savile is in that and is required to be airbrushed from history?
  13. You could argue that Cliff's Christmas offerings are Christian, but you'd be on very shaky (see what I did there) ground to claim that Slade, Wizzard, Wham! and the like are of similar sentiment.

And I don't mean predicting it when something is on 700k and still in the top 10, I mean before it even enters the chart. Aside from X-Factor winners (and even that's not guaranteed) I think it's pretty difficult. Two tracks that I thought would do it, 'Born This Way' & 'Skyfall' although big hits of course will probably never come near the million mark. Anybody had any real successes?
  15. 'Albatross' is what I think Fleetwood Mac sound like.
  16. I didn't say or imply you were. I was simply adding to the general opinion that a lot of Fleetwood Mac tracks don't sound like Fleetwood Mac.
  17. 'The Chain' doesn't exactly sound like Fleetwood Mac either.....

Adele can count herself a little unlucky with 3 no. 2s and just one no.1 given how 'massive' a star she is. Still, the no.1 hit she did manage didn't do too badly overall..... Yes, this must be quite a popular misconception. I've heard people say that this was a no.1 hit too. Still, at least I tried to get it to no.1 by buying it at the time :)

And on a slightly different note, what about those current/very recent tracks that in years to come people will think got to no. 1 when they didn't. I'm thinking of Skyfall, the general Bond hype, the awards the song has won, will give the impression of a massive no.1 hit when people look back. And of course it would have made no.1 easily were it not for that Friday release.
  20. Agreed. Charity is no excuse for this abomination.
  21. John Peel will be turning in his grave.....
  22. Band Aid - Do They Know it's Christmas? Frankie Goes to Hollywood - Relax Maroon 5 - Moves LIke Jagger Gotye - Somebody That I Used to Know 'Paradise' will make it within the next 6 months or so.
  23. You know it's funny, I find 'How to save a Life' and 'Chasing Cars' sound very similar, both being desperately gawdawful dirges, yet you hate HTSAL but love CC. No accounting for taste, is there :)
  24. Indeed. A sale is a sale and as such helps the music industry. Whether it's detrimental to the charts is different and is of course a matter of opinion.....
