The Who must be up there as well.

Sarcasm, as I'm sure everyone well knows, doesn't always translate well over the internet :) Beside I read some daft things on here from time tyo time, why shouldn't I take it at face value? I voted no.2 this week, no.1 next week. I think that's still do-able. It's a great Bond theme, reminiscent of 'Diamonds are Forever' of course but also has that 'edginess', that air of tension about it that makes a classic Bond theme.

It's selling more than twice what the no.2 track is selling on iTunes at the moment. How could it possibly *not* be in the top 40 come Sunday? Even if it failed to sell one single copy more it would still be top 40.
  4. Here's one to watch: 496 Beatles - Love Me Do It's the second highest of The Beatles 4 entries in the top 1000. I have no idea where it normally is but it has been on the news a lot today as we are approaching it's 50th anniversary as their first chart single. I wouldn't be completely shocked if this made the top 10 overall in the next couple of weeks. If you think that sounds daft, well the track has 'form' in this respect. On the 20th anniversary in 1982 it made no.4, far higher than it's original peak of no.17. If there is more publicity or perhaps more importantly a campaign springs up to get it to no.1 then it might just happen....
  5. People usually quote what amounts to an opinion on music as if it was a 'fact'. For example I might say 'Moves Like Jagger is a fantastic track' as if it was a fact, well it is a fact as far as I'm concerned. I'm not compelled to say 'In my opinion Moves Like Jagger is a fantastic track'. I am well aware that there are those who detest it. To them *that* is a 'fact'.
  6. Considering that this week last year Rihanna releasing midweek denied Maroon 5 no.1, it would be ironic indeed if Adele managed to do the same thing to her!
  7. But the point is they might be forced to sell as part of the takeover deal. And in that case it's the brand name that makes it such a lucrative buy, so whoever bought it would keep it. Let's face it, the Now! series is practially a licence to print money.
  8. Oh *much* worse. SYL was just a silly semi-novelty track, something that could only ever have been a hit at Christmas. I don't like it but have no particular hared for it either. 'How to save a Life' and 'Chasing cars' on the other hand are just abominations, music to slit your wrists to!
  9. It's a lot worse than that. It's down there with my most hated tracks of all time, almost as bad as 'Chasing Cars'. Both are abysmal dirges!
  10. Same here. Sales would put it in context. For all we know they could all be selling in trivial amounts, with 'Get it on' just happening to be the highest.
  11. It wasn't a novelty track, but hard-core ravers turned their noses up at it, considering it far too commercial. Only many years later did they admit that it was about ecstacy, which was strenuously denied at the time.
  12. Voted 'Like it'. It's good fun. And pop music should never try to be anything more than that. I hate it when it gets all pompous and 'up itself'. Don't know about anyone else but I'm getting shades of 'Pump up the Jam' by Technotronic in that.
  13. Gerry no up to no.5 and increased on Kworb from 0.5625 to 0.65 in just 1.7 hours. It's still 99p. That's far too high an increase to be just some random movement. Must have got a boost from somewhere.
  14. No, I had to look up 'You'll Never Walk Alone' by Robson & Jerome to find that it was associated with 'What Becomes of the Broken Hearted'. I vaguely recall that track reaching no.1 (as the lead track on that silly triple A-side) but for obvious reasons my mind has tried to blank out Robson & Jerome tracks. There is no reason why I would remember that YNWA was part of that.
  15. Along with 'What becomes of the Broken Hearted' and 'Saturday Night at the Movies' I had to look it up! No wonder I didn't recall it.....
  16. Fourth? 'The Crowd' made no.1 with the track in 1985 (Bradford Fire) but the 1989 Hillsborough charity record was 'Ferry Cross the Mersey'.
  17. Gerry & The Pacemakers just made no.1!
  18. I was thinking exactly the same thing. Hardly surprising to see it make a entry in the lower reaches of the top 100. But this is far more than just people individually seing coverage of Hillsborough on the news and being reminded of the Liverpool anthem. There must be some kind of internet campaign behind this. Somebody posted a link to a YouTube video suggesting that might well be the case.
  19. You have to seriously hate a track to buy something else specifically to prevent it making no.1. I don't see how Bom Bom can fail to be no.1 next week, it's miles ahead.
  20. I really like it, it's good fun! Normally I don't like tracks crashing straight in at no.1, but I am prepared to make an exception in this case :)

What's wrong with that? It's just somebody venting off a little steam about a pet peeve.

As a 'chart veteran' I would like to see them combined. An album is an album as long as it satisfies the criteria for length/price, if it does then it should be included. It seems completely artificial to make a distinction along the lines of whether one or many artists happen to be featured on the included tracks. If there are a lot of compliations at the top of the chart, well too bad. That's what's selling. The charts primary function isn't to be exciting to follow, it is to accurately track what is selling.
  24. Not an official song, or even about The Olympics but 'Gold' by Spandau Ballet is currently no.132 & 530.
  25. By one measure you would imagine STIUTK would easily overtake SLY. SLY passed the million mark when somewhere in the 30s (no jokes about it being around since before the war) and STIUTK passed it when it was still in the top 10. So there should be no contest. It all depends on whether Gotye has the same sheer staying power as Adele, which I'm not sure it will. I'm still waiting for MLJ to overtake SLY, I still think it will, though probably not this year now.
