  1. Sued over what? It was just a parody, he could hardly complain he was being unfairly portrayed. Besides Spitting Image were far more vicious in their representations of people and I don't think they were ever sued. My God, you *didn't* did you? Though to be fair there are worse novelty records but the bar isn't exac tly set very high.... I don't suppose you still have your copy, do you? When I was looking for that link I came across somebody selling one on Amazon for 10 pounds. Are old 7 inch singles really worth a tenner each?? If so I've got a small fortune sitting on the top of my wardrobe!
  2. Let's face it, it going to be either 'Bohemian Rhapsody' or 'Imagine'. It always is in these type of 'best of' lists. Both tracks are horribly overrrated. Yawn.
  3. You had to ask.... One of the most bizzare TOTP appearances of all time. This reached no.19 in 1982.
  4. Is there a specific definition for 'bubbling under'? OK, it's tracks which are just below the chart and show potential to enter, but which chart, top 40, top 75, top 100, what exactly?
  5. I see, but it wasn't clear that's what you were doing. In that case 'Sexy and I Know it' should be excluded because it had a week at no.60 on 30/7/11, some time before it's main chart run!
  6. Ah, a cunnnig way to get 'Moves Like Jagger' to no.1 :) Where is 'Someone Like You'? ISTR it got past the million in July last year and last I heard it was on 1.3m+, so should easily be included here.
  7. Remember that 99.99% of iTunes uses aren't Buzzjack members, they don't follow every twist & turn of the iTunes chart. They may well be casual music buyers who hear a song on the radio called 'Payphone' (perhaps not even knowing the group) and look it up on iTunes. It doesn't seem unreasonable to assume that track called 'Payphone' sitting in the top 10 there is what they've heard on the radio. Not everybody has the knowledge you do, you wouldn't expect them to, so you shouldn't dismiss it as being 'their own fault'. Everybody should be able to buy music without the risk of them being duped.
  8. Whilst I don't agree with said statement, I can't see anything wrong with expressing it. It wasn't rude or agressive. Don't really see how Chris Brown could be reasonably be 'banned' though. Glitter wasn't a major recording artist when he was convicted though. There was little of his music being played, let alone sold. Besides Brown's career did take a substantial dip after the whole thing came out.
  9. They're obviously not fans of 'Moves Like Jagger' then.....
  10. Well it was there on the 7.3 hours ago Kworb update, i.e. just before midnight so the number of sales it would have lost in the overnight period will be minimal. If it's re-added in the next few hours then I can't see it making much difference. What is it with these iTunes deletions anyway? It has happened to several big tracks in the last few months.

I prefer slow charts but what I really mean by that is tracks that climb up the chart over a period of several weeks, with hardly anything debuting at no.1 and even relatively few going straight in the top 10, as in the 80s. The descent down the chart today is *much* slower than in the 80s of course. For example, this is 'Come on Eileen', one of the biggest selling tracks of the 80s, well over a million copies sold and it's all done and dusted in 17 weeks, which was quite a long chart run back then, even for a no.1 single. 63-41-31-9-2-{1}-1-1-1-2-3-9-14-20-36-52-63 I suspect a TOTP appearance on week 3 :)
  12. I predict year end sales of 750k for Payphone. Perhaps sticking my neck out a bit after it's only been released for 11 hours, but there you go :)
  13. Payphone just sounds very average to me. Nothing really jumps out at you (good or bad). It's one of those songs that are just kind of 'there'.
  14. Now the top 10 effect is kicking in, this should see the fake Payphone start dropping.
  15. Yes, it really is becoming farcical. There have been fakes before of course but I don't think there's ever been anything remotely like this. Payphone has been out for ages elsewhere in the world, so why hold it back here? Somebody else said that this might make record companies re-think the whole OAOS strategy. In general, that would be a good thing.
  16. Possibly. It could look rather 'busy'. But I was thinking of just say no.1 to no.5 in decreasing font size, not the whole top 40! And also in quite small, faint lettering, like the current banner. There's a lot more words on there than I was envisaging, and it dosen't look cluttered.
  17. I wouldn't have a clue how to actually start designing this, but I think what is needed is to emphasise what in essence the chart actually *is*. And that is a list, and movement within that list. So I'd have 'no.1', 'no.2, 'no.3' etc in diminishing size fonts. The words (perhaps with the appropriate arrow) 'climber', 'faller' and 'non-mover'. Also 'new-entry' & 're-entry'. Well, there's a few ideas if anybody wants to run with them :)

Says someone who thought Fun had no chance of no.1 after their sales started dropping :) But then neither did I, and I don't think many on here thought so either.

Or if Payphone has anything like the staying power of MLJ, a return to no.1 on July 9th.
  20. Yes, expect your pop bars to be seriously squeeeeeezed in the near future!
  21. A run of 11-1-11-111(!) would be interesting....
  22. Yes, one track from each year and as far as I can tell, only one track per artist. Rather limited you might think but there are well over 1000 no1s, to ask people to select from those would be rather unwieldy.
  23. It's not a bad song for a charity release, I've heard a lot worse. Video is cringeworthy though.
  24. Since 2009 Cliff has added just 0.2m. This is presumably from sales of his Christmas songs, he hasn't charted with a new track in that period. Trickle sales of his other tracks must be practically non-existent. The Beatles as you say, 1.1m. I know that there was a flurry of interest when when they first appeared on iTunes but have they *really* sold over a million singles in 3 years? I guess it's spread over a huge number of tracks, but even so it sounds an awful lot. Elvis is even more baffling. Where does he get 0.9m sales from?? Must trickle-sell far better than Cliff.....
  25. Very tight for the top 3. If Cliff had a big Christmas single (don't laugh, it could happen) then perhaps he could return to no.1?
