  1. And yet the biggest selling single in recent years, 'Someone Like You' managed a mere 9 weeks top 10, not very impressive at all in comparison. 1-1-1-1-2-1-2-3-6 It drops out pretty quickly and judging by that top 10 run alone you wouldn't think it's sold almost 1.5 million copies.
  2. Yes, and you keep going on about it too.....
  3. I was thinking that RT would shift around 70k this week and that on average it would be selling at 0.25 of Avicii this week, so that would put Avicii on 280k. 280k!?! is that even possible? That's getting well into sales territory that only charity singles & X-Factor winners venture.
  4. The 1982 Eurvision winner Nicole followed up her no.1 single 'A Little Peace' with a no.75 hit, 'Give me more Time'. An interesting piece of chart symmetry as no.75 was the lowest official position at the time.
  5. I knew somebody was going to point that out :) But as an openly gay person having a no.1, it still counts.
  6. That's what I went for at first, then realised that I (along with everybody else) had missed the most obvious one of all, The Village People!
  7. Already have done. I keep 'em on either side of my head, very handy they are too. I guess my ears are just better tuned to identifying good music than yours!
  8. I don't get the fuss over John Newman. It's a decent enough track for sure, but certainly nothing worth looning over!
  9. Yeah, and never got anywhere near no.1. That was only because of the pre-orders being dumped in all at once. It's no guide to how it will perform long term.
  10. But with guaranteed sales of several tens of thousands every year, the well known Christmas songs are something of a special case and over the years sales will obviously mount up. Aerosmith's 'I don't want to miss a Thing' only sold around 600k when first released but has now sold a million. I've heard it's something to do with Father's Day but 400k?? I don't recall the track ever charting significantly at that time of year.
  11. By 'pushing towards 2m' I meant say 1.8m or so, perhaps by this time next year.
  12. I think 'Blurred Lines' will eventually push towards the 2m mark though, becoming one of the monster hits of all time.

Just looked that up. Ugh. Definately something that the anonymity of internet shopping was made for!

I didn't before but I think 'Blurred Lines' will hang on. Icona Pop simply aren't increasing enough at the moment to overhaul Mr Thicke. And even if they do overtake on iTunes they have to stay there and make up the ground they have already lost, and not be too front-loaded and let Blurred Lines re-overtake later in the week.
  15. Same here. Hoping that it can make 5 consecutive weeks at no.1, a feat that has proved so elusive in recent years.
  16. Well there were the Spotnicks from Sweden. I tried to post a a Youtube link but it wouldn't let me. Very strange, what's with the space suits?
  17. But at the moment it's simply adding on sales due to the fact that it's a rolling 48hr chart and there are no sales dropping out from 48hrs ago (apart from pre-orders) The way it's made progress this morning I can't see it *not* getting to iTunes no.1. I hope to be proved wrong though :)
  18. Unfortunately that looks like being the case. It will be a few hours yet of course but it will be iTunes no.1 by late afternoon. Robin Thicke has 2 other versions currently at no.75 & 129, so Blurred Lines will hang on a little while longer combined but Derulo looks unstoppable. It's a pity as a track that is selling as massively as Blurred Lines is really should have more than a mere 3 weeks at no.1 although it could always return there if 'The Other Side' turns out to be front loaded. At the moment I'm just hoping it's so frontloaded that Robin Thicke can hang on for the coming week.
  19. I like the track but it always did strike me as being rather 'un-ABBA like'. £3 is the equivalent of £10.91 today, that's outrageous for a single! But if the regular price of a 7" single was £1.50 back then that's still over a fiver in today's money. Makes you think just how cheap our 99p downloads are.
  20. I'm going to stick my neck out and say that it will sell 202k this week.
  21. I'd forgotten about downloads, was merely thinking of sales 'at the time'. That said, this is hardly one of ABBA's better known tracks, in fact I think it's relatively obscure. I wonder how many downloads it's sold. The early 80s were good for sales, a lot better than the late 80s, but the late 70s (78/79) were surely a lot better.
  22. I didn't know that was only a 12" single and regarded as 'poor value for money'. I always thought that it did badly (by their standards) because it felt very different from the normal ABBA sound and probably scared away many of their regular fans. I must admit sales of 208k for a track that went 17-{7}-9-14-24-28-66->7 (yes, copied from Polyhex!) seems incredibly high.
  23. Robin Thicke is even further ahead than that, given that he has versions at no. 63 (1.97%) no. 103 & no.853. Naughty Boy has fewer sales from other versions at no.160, no.509, no.824, no.893 and no.1408. I don't think even Daft Punk at their height ever had quite this lead.
  24. <Gasp> at the two people who think that there will be no million sellers released this year. The world would have to end in the next few weeks to stop Daft Punk making it.
  25. Absolutely no chance of making it. It's currently at no.33 and this week's no.29 sold 11.3k.
