  1. Okay, now the tour has officially been announced down under - what does everyone want to hear? B Side Say the Word, I'll Be There Rarity Made of Glass Demo Again (only because it was penned by Madge and I want to know her reaction)
  2. 1980s Turn it into Love - Kylie album - huge missed opportunity in the UK. At the very least, it should have been released as a single in the US and Aus instead of the very average It's No Secret. 1990s Time Will Pass You By - KM 94 - the MPeople sound would have appealed more as a third single than Where Is The Feeling. I also love Dangerous Game, but don't think it would've excited the masses at the time, though it wouldn't be out if place on an Adele album today. 2000s The One - X - I have to agree with everyone else. This should've been the lead single, with a sexy video to match. I can't stand 2 Hearts or the art work / imagery of this era. Speakerphone a lost opportunity too. 2010s Cupid Boy - Aphrodite - instead of Better Than Today. That said, I absolutely adore GOOMW, so I'm at a loss to know why she lost momentum in this era.
  3. I stand by my comments. It's not a jab at Kylie, or a dig at her accomplishments, because I absolutely adore her. Any artist of her longevity is going to face challenges. Aphrodite was heavily promoted. Yet despite all this, it underperformed. I would say the same of All The Lovers. It might look good against her past singles sales, but it in the digital age, it was only a moderate hit. And that's just the UK - Australia was a disaster (despite her first proper promo tour in 10 years). Personally, I was really surprised by this, because I thought it was a brilliant album. I loved GOOMY. So yeah, I think there is a danger that Kylie - or specifically, her record company - will see more start to see more value in mining her back catalogue than investing in the future. Does this make sense? Very, very excited about a new song, though worried this might just be a rumour!!
  4. I'm not surprised or excited by this, though I do understand the logic. An acoustic album will be cheap to make and easy to market, given the whole 25 years angle. It will give EMI and Kylie what they need, in these difficult industry times - a low risk project that turns a decent profit. I can't see Kylie releasing an original album at the same time, as the two concepts would be in competition with each other. However, I hope she follows it up with new material in the next 12 months. If she wants to surprise and reward fans, that's the only way to do it, as I think we're all expecting a long hiatus. For me, she's a little in danger of becoming an artist that survives on past glories. That's a shame, because Aphrodite - while not a big seller, by anyone's calculations - was a creative high point. She needs to capitalize on that, as she did between 'Light Years' and Fever'.
  5. I have underestimated the Dannii love here. Sorry - I'm American - that's my excuse ( though I did live in the UK for many years, so I like to think I know a little about the Minogues) To clarify, I don't actually want to hear a Christmas album from her. I just think she's running out of options and this is a good, safe bet. It's hard to sell anything nowadays. I'd like to see her succeed at something. Re Kylie and Parlaphone, I don't think they would drop her either. She's still a big name. But I don't think the label made a hash of Aphrodite. They hooked her up with great songwriters. It was well promoted. Times change, she's simply lost popularity. The ducks dont have to be lined up any more. Many artists can get to number one prior to even releasing a video.
  6. My idea is based on economic reality. Dannii has never sold well - hence the number of times she has been dropped from labels. And those were the good old days - now even major artists are struggling. Look at Kylie - has Aphrodite turned a profit yet? I doubt her label will be rushing to invest in a follow- up. If Dannii were to get another traditional deal it would have happened in the past four years. So, on the topic of how she could make a great comeback, I say go with something cheap and foolproof and the rest may follow. It hasn't harmed Mariah's career.
  7. Deadly serious. Fact - at this point in time, no record company is going to give her money to make an original album. Fact - she's on the biggest show in the country which happens to air at the end of the year. It's an opportunity to do something, at least. Fact - Christmas albums sell. Nobody has really done a fun, dance floor one (have they lately?). She can re-release it every year. Fact - if she prove can make somebody money - even at Xmas - then she might get one more chance at an actual recording career.
  8. I think Dannii should make a cool, dance-pop Christmas album! Seriously. Half original songs, half dance floor updates of established updates. Maybe a Kylie duet. Maybe a duet with an act she has mentored. Released mid-November, promoted with a big yuletide medley on The X-Factor. Yes, it's a sell out, but I can see it selling loads. She can say she's doing it for baby Ethan. From that she can parlay her way into a new record deal in 2012.
  9. I don't know how I feel about this. I guess it would be nice for it to be available, but it's unlikely it will do any chart business - thus time will record it as another flop. In any case, if she's going to do it, she should do it soon. It feels like all momentum for the album has long died and the tour, for all its good reviews, hasn't done much to reinvigorate her global standing. That said, I think she should definitely release another song to the clubs in the US, as she might score another dance #1 ( which of course mean very little, but at least the media will pick up on it). I'd go with Cupid Boy.
  10. I would argue that Kylie did decent Stateside promotion for Aphrodite. Dancing With The Stars is huge. She also did some late night shows, plus a lot of Internet. The result wasn't great in terms of sales - but it's kept her profile alive. She is famous here - if only for the fact that she's more famous elsewhere. Realistically, I'm not sure if Kylie will ever have more hit records here but I can see her having a successful Vegas show, which she has been quoted as saying she's interested in.
  11. I live in LA and thought I'd start this topic! Kylie has a great little profile here, but her bottom line is not good - ie record sales and touring receipts. And let's be real - unless that situation turns around, we won't see the level of promotion she received for Aphrodite again. So what can she do? My first random thought is this - get onto the Bravo cable network. She's a perfect fit for their sizable young-ish, liberal (and yes, somewhat gay) audience. Why haven't we seen her as a guest judge on The Fashion Show, trading quips with Kathy Griffin, or chewing the fat with Andy on Watch What Happens Live? Secondly, if she hasn't tried already, throw her hat in the ring at Glee (before that particular bubble bursts - and it could be within the next year). For the record, Billboard disclosed the following data about her Soundscan era sales this week: Albums 1,159,000, "Fever," 2002 177,000, "Body Language," 2004 50,000, "Aphrodite," 2010 50,000, "Ultimate Kylie," 2004 42,000, "X," 2008 Songs 531,000, "Can't Get You Out of My Head" 134,000, "Love at First Sight" 66,000, "Get Outta My Way" 63,000, "Slow" 56,000, "Come Into My World"
  12. This is a great stat for her to boast about, but at the end of the day, it doesn't mean much. Latoya Jackson could probably top the US dance charts, if set her mind to it. That said, it's great that Kylie is touring and pressing her advantage.
  13. I've heard the Taio/Kylie version a number of times on KissFM, here in LA - and I'm sure other stations around the country are spinning it now and then too. I have to wonder - what is the real story behind this collaboration? She's doesn't seem to have done any PR anywhere. I get that she's on tour, but that can't be the excuse. Is she pissed at the handling of it - ie that Travie McCoy was brought in for another version, after her? Love him or hate him, Taio is hot right now. This is an opportunity for Kylie that's mostly going begging. That said, I think it will hang around the lower reaches of the UK top 20 for some weeks to come and end up being her highest digital seller.
  14. I agree that it's refreshing to see her speak honestly about the singles failings, but hang on - isn't she the one who flubbed a golden PR opportunity and told the X-Factor audience that Better Than Today wasn't available yet, when it was? It seems she had her own 1989 moment. That said, I doubt it would've made a huge difference. BTT is a shocking third single. Should've been Cupid Boy or a remix of Aphrodite. Can you feel me on your stereo - what a brilliant hook. I disagree that the landscape is swamped with urban music. Kylie's brand of pop is bang on for 2011, especially here in the US. Her PR need to get her on the Bravo network. She's a perfect fit. They have so many shows that she could be doing PR on.
  15. Indeed, the Britney joke was implicit!!! I generally commend Kylie on her live performances. I just think GOOMW is such a hard key for anyone to sing well. Certainly here in the US, the 22 million viewers who saw her do it on Dancing With The Stars didn't flock to their itunes accounts. They would've been better served with ATL, which she can perform well. Did you see this info on billboard, about her top selling US efforts? (Sorry if this is elsewhere on the forum) Albums 1,159,000, "Fever," 2002 177,000, "Body Language," 2004 50,000, "Aphrodite," 2010 50,000, "Ultimate Kylie," 2004 42,000, "X," 2008 Songs 531,000, "Can't Get You Out of My Head" 134,000, "Love at First Sight" 66,000, "Get Outta My Way" 63,000, "Slow" 56,000, "Come Into My World"
  16. I couldn't disagree more on GOOMW. I think it's the best thing she's done since CGYOMH. If Britney had of recorded it, it would have been a number one smash (plus no danger of Brit failing to hit those high notes on her, err, live performances). I agree that all the cover images for Aphrodite are fantastic, but I don't like the two later videos. GOOMW had a great opportunity with the light technology, but it wasted it. She gets too caught up in reference boards and imagery. You see that in all the behind-the-scenes stuff. You just wanna say, love ya Kylie, now get everyone around you to take the polls out of their asses and do something fun. The lyrics to GOOMW tell a story. Why not make a simple fun video that does the same?
  17. I agree that 2 Hearts was a disastrous first single choice from X. I agree that All The Lovers was a great first single choice from Aphrodite. However, I want to point to something that ultimately harmed both albums - dreadful styling and ill-fated promotion. Die hard fans aside, Kylie, for a younger generation, works best when she trades on sex appeal. The bleach-blonde styling and artwork for X were hideous - she came off like a bad Christina copy. People were turned off. Sexy Kylie returned for ATL, which was great and it payed off. However, in the case of GOOMW, the video was boring and we had a song that should have been a giant hit. Unfortunately, it's nearly impossible to sing live, and Kylie's promotion (of which there was a lot) didn't do it justice.
