  1. Although it's commonplace to send nude pictures on these apps, most people aren't MPs for God's sake. Doesn't he have any brains or was he hi when he did it? Plus, sending out colleagues numbers too?
  2. Haven't had time to do many replies to this excellent thread but gave to say that I adore 'Dance Yourself Dizzy' - absolutely burst of joy and so so catchy. Didn't really like the Yomanda 'Synth and Strings' track from 1998 which sampled it mind. UB40 first top 10 hit and what a couple of corkers. Prefer 'King' ever do slightly although know 'Food for Thought' got more airplay.

Well, the tragic thing is the USA are still selling billions of dollars of weaponry to Israel, despite criticising them. It's like telling an arsonist off for burning down buildings but quietly slipping them matches and lighter fluid the next day. Biden, especially, seems to have no real interest in stopping the conflict despite his protestations. Scumbag (and I don't use that lightly and have previously praised his record overall).

And she's been splashed on the front page of the Daily Heil approvingly as a hero. So depressing for trans people.
  5. 'Games without Frontiers' was epic indeed. Def in my top 5 of the year and that's not even including the fact it's got the divine Kate Bush on vocals.
  6. Yes, plus 'Eyes Closed' the lead from Subtract was produced by Max Martin! It had a sad topic but that isn't a bar to commercial success - see P Diddy/George Michael/Elton John etc...
  7. I don't think Blondie are overrated or anything but I merely like than truly love any of their songs for some reason. However, 'Atomic' is by far an exception. Truly amazing masterpiece and must have sounded so futuristic and exciting back in 1980 - the US only had it only peaking at 39. Make it make sense!
  8. 'Captain Beaky' is definitely one of the most unusual top 10 hits ever. Maybe Baz Luhrmann's 'Everybody's Free (to wear sunscreem)' is the most similar. Do like the brass bits though. 'And the Beat Goes On' is a track thought would be covered many times but according to Polyhex it hasn't been a hit. Was heavily sampled by Will Smith in 'Miami' 'I hear you now' is atmospheric and mesmerising. Love these early electronic hits so so much.
  9. Well like many cases when comparing UK and US charts I think we got it right with 'Pina Colada' (or even better if flopped completely) Didn't know it but it's awful on first play. :puke2: Great having the non top 10 tracks too - great stuff both Gezza and TheSnake!
  10. I absolutely love Boomtown Rats breakthrough in 1978 'Like Clockwork' and,of course, the legendary 'I Don't Like Mondays'. This track isn't quite as good as those two but still a corker.
  11. Best new song musically is definitely The Special's 'Too Much Too Young' (and wow at how fast it got to no.1) BUT the lyrics are incredibly misogynistic with the singer blaming an ex (presumably) for having a child instead of being with him with lyrics such as 'Haven't you heard of contraception' and 'Try wearing a cap'. Slightly shocking The Joe Jackson track is pleasant enough but don't quite get the hype. Kenny Rogers track is boring but not as offended as others here are. Don't think I can be bothered to listen to the lyrics closely of this one.

Talking of Chainsmokers, their collaboration with Coldplay 'Something Just Like This' (which is Coldplay's biggest hit of all time on Spotify) never had an official video either.
  13. One great track 'Green Onions' - don't actually know it but sounds lovely and surprised it's as old as 1962. Would have placed it late 60s. That Dr Hook I didn't know either but sounds pleasant like most of their tracks. I don't think we needed a cover of 'I Wanna Hold Your Hand' and especially not this version! Styx 'Babe' is cheesy slush with no redeeming features whatsoever.

UN Security council now finally (because of US changing their Veto to an abstention) demands an immediate ceasefire from Israel. Even Donald Trump is now saying that Israel should stop the war. But we know that Israel will only stop their genocide at the very last opportunity sadly.

Teddy Swims doesn't have an official video just a live performance.

Well TikTok is getting banned in the USA and probably UK won't follow on too far behind....

Well if they're not making any money and since there's financial costs involved then I'm saying not needed. Rarely do I find a music video essential nowadays.
  18. Very contrasting top 2 but both great tracks. I agree with TheSnake that Pretenders sounds very ahead of its time whereas Billy Preston/Syreeta sounds very 70s with its haunting, flowing orchestral feel. Reminds me a bit of the late 70s ballads from Minnie Riperton (Loving You) and Rose Royce ('Wishing on a Star', 'Love Don't Live Here Anymore'). Madness - don't think I ever loved a song by then but neither really disliked one - 'My Girl' was okay. The Nolans - 'I'm in the Mood For Dancing' was an excellent track - a bop as they would say now. Of course we were lumbered with one of the band members who became a reactionary presenter on daytime Television but hey ho!
  19. I'm a massive Pink Floyd fan and could write a thesis about 'The Wall' album. I won't but this was a very unexpected no.1 as they had been an albums band only once Syd Barrett left the band in the late 60s. 'The Wall' album overall is an acquired taste - very vast, deep and depressing in places (I love it though) but was a stroke of inspired genius to put a disco beat behind this track and release as a single An iconic animation by Gerald Scarfe of teacher putting children through meat grinders and hey presto a million seller. The Police 'Walking on.the Moon' was a very atmospheric, moody track too. Great when I finally got into it. I didn't actually know 'Day Trip to Bangor' so am listening to it for first (and probably) last time. Hmmm, maybe you had to be there to get the joke or something.... Not massively fan of KC and Sunshine's band's 'Please Dont Go' but a million times better than the KWS monstrosity in 1992!
  20. As working from home I spent a LOT of time listening to the end of year top UK 100s starting from 1978 onwards so will know all these hits extremely well. 1980-1982 are easily the most interesting years of the 80s IMO as top 10 music was rawer, less formed back then and became more and more polished and commercial as the decade went on (although 88 and 89 appeal to me as love dance music from that time). There's lots of big stars and very well known hits this year though so something for everyone
  21. 2024 music is really interesting - especially this explosion in folk/country/indie music and what is especially refreshing is that despite majority of these artists being from the US we aren't slavishly following US trends. Examples are how UK put 'Stick Season' as a multi week no.1 where it has only just made the US top 10. Dasha and Michael Macargi are top 20 here have only peaked at 74 and 67 there so far (Macargi's video is even set in London) On the other hand their biggest star the awful Morgan Wallen whose 'Last Night' was 2023's biggest hit by miles in the US didn't make EOY top 100 here and he has had loads of other massive hits lasting ages there which haven't charted in the UK
  22. I only know 'Bad Moon Rising' but it is fantastic.

Thanks. That completely passed me - pleasant tune!

Bumping this thread. Have there been any instrumental top 40 hits since Ten Walls 'Walking with Elephants' back in Sept 2014 apart from Mark Knopfler likely to get one this Friday? Before I even bumped this thread the last one I could definitely remember was Ten Walls. They really seemed to have died a death in streaming era. But maybe I've missed some.
  25. Such a shame that nothing has taken Twitter's place. Even Zuckerberg's Threads would be preferable.
