  1. 'The Scientist' is achingly beautiful throughout. Definitely my favourite of the triptych of slow ballads from first 3 albums ('Trouble' and 'Fix You' being the other two. 'Viva la Vida' is a very worthy winner. Light and heavy at the same time, excellent tune throughout verse and chorus and intriguing lyrics, some said about Tony Blair's fall from grace. Thanks so much for this rate Roba. Great commentary and got me listening to a lot of Coldplay and discovering new gems 'Arabesque' and 'Everlast' especially. However, for me, the best Coldplay track ever wasn't a single. Final track of 'A Rush of Blood to the Head' is like a 12/10. Just stunning, especially the climax. kr4DNZz_8zI

ANOTHER by election forthcoming as corrupt, ultra right wing Tory MP with vile views (mind you that's like over 75% of Tories) Scott Benton likely to be suspended - https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/tori...ection-31082177 Blackpool South which is normally a Labour seat but being very Brexity voted Tory in 2019 should be an easy win for Starmer - majority is 3690
  3. Already on ACR - performed respectably but not as well as it fully deserved considering it's the best dance track of the year. :???:
  4. So HS2 leg to Manchester as good as scrapped - announced in, ahem, Manchester. Instead they'll focus on vague improvements to existing rail infrastructure in the North (like why isn't that already been done) Meanwhile Liz Truss - who actually got the Tories under 20% for a while and destroyed the economy, is swanning around like she's the new PM being supported by Nigel Farage. Some are saying that if there was a Tory election tomorrow, he'd be voted as new leader. Oh and lots and lots of transphobia. Just another day in Tory paradise.
  5. White Noise Baby Sleep climbs back to 92 - could there be a new peak for one of this generation's most iconic acts? :cheeseblock:
  6. Excellent top 2. As good as 'Yellow' is I don't think it captures the essence of Coldplay as either of the top 2. I'd hope for VLV slightly. Thought 'Violet Hill' which is bold, menacing and really grabs my attention on every listen could have got this based on a skim of the votes but not meant to be sadly. 4 is a great position as not one of their massive hits.
  7. So Sunak refuses to agree with Braverman's shocking statement that 'Multiculturalism has failed us'. As that's a very clear divisive statement on such an important issue, he should sack her. But of course, he won't because yet again the ultra right hold so much sway.
  8. Ooo these have been coming in fast. 'Lovers in Japan' surprised so high although a fantastic track especially poignant after visiting Osaka! 'Moonlight' - one of my 11s. Such a stunning, unique track with that intriguing video. Love the ending too. Never in a million years expected to see that the highest 'Ghost Stories' track 'Every Teardrop is a Waterfall' - I thought that when this left the top 40 after just 2 weeks (especially with the charts at that point being very rock un-friendly) their imperial phase was over but it rebounded (if not repeaked) after Glasto and of course the follow up was humongous. Brilliant, rousing track where verses are better than chorus 'In My Place' I adored from first listen, so much grander and epic in production than all the 'Parachutes' singles. The chorus especially brought hairs to the back of my neck too. So powerful. I know it has its detractors so pleased it made top 10 here 'Paradise' I really couldn't stand at the time. Thought it was a bit sellout-y and lightweight for them. Would have given 0 or something but have mellowed on it slightly over time - maybe 'Higher Power' and 'My Universe' are my least favourite now. 'Fix You' is divine although thought it'd be a bit lower and be more marmitey. I feel it is the musical equivalent of a therapy/group hug session with lots of tears. Bit churchy too. All of that stuff I love but. 8 is really good. 'Trouble' less to say but a beautiful poignant ballad and love the spiderweb lyric.

Give stupid, backwards people access to the internet and that's what we've got sadly. Must be pretty awful for Fox and Wooton to be so repulsive they can't keep jobs with even the most morally hideous media companies in the world. Karma is a great thing - although they get off much better than many of their victims, mind.

Good news. Branning/Wooton or whatever his name is today has been suspended too. He had already lost 2 of his 3 jobs (poison writer for the Mail/Sun) when the disturbing allegations came out in.the Byline Times. Get rid of the cosplay homophobic vicar (Calvin Robinson) and deranged dangerous arch conspiracy theorist (Neil Oliver) if they even want to have a chance if being mainstream - oh and those Tory MPs too.

Anyone been following this rapidly developing story? Basically, on the channel last night (which I despise with all of my heart but am familiar with as my aged parents unfortunately watch it  ) Dan Wooton (aka Martin Branning) whois under investigation for a lot of dodgy sex scandals himself and is a professional bully (particularly to Caroline Flack RIP and Meghan Markle) interviewed Laurence Fox (occasional presenter and fascist knobhead) last night to discuss comments made by a left wing commentator (Ava Santina) on another channel about men's mental health. Rather than discussing the issue, Fox instead went on a misogynistic rant avout her appearance saying that no one would sleep with her with Dan Wooton being a nodding dog and laughing along. This did not play well with viewers (understandably) and due to fear of Ofcom and other backlash, after an extremely quick investigation, Laurence Fox has been suspended. Dan Wooton has gone down the "It wasn't me" apologising route (although the laughing along with Fox is pretty grotesque). Could this be the scandal that gets BOTH of these evil men off air for good? Couldn't have happened to a nicer pair. In all seriousness, this channel has been churning out complete fascist crap (some presenters worse than others it has to be said) from the get go but increasing rapidly in the last year. Worryingly, there are several current Tory MPs moonlighting as presenters which is a complete conflict of interest.
  12. Roba -FYI Life in Technicolour II peaked at 28 not 90. You're doing great, mind - really enjoying this thread! I'm thinking these are falling in the right kind of order - 'Speed of Sound' despite being one of their biggest hits on paper, was a wee bit turgid for my liking. 'X and Y' album overall was a lot better - in fact I'd put SOS as the weakest track on it! 'A Sky fall of Stars' was euphoric moment although I'm not totally keen on it and not sure why. Tiny bit contrived maybe? 'Life in Technicolour II' was during their imperial phase and adding words to that instrumental (which heavily interpolated the amazing John Hopkins) just worked really well. Graceful, happy song. 'Charlie Brown' has a great riff. Thought it would flop as everyone was still into 'Paradise' when that came out but thanks to loads of big promotional slots it did make the top 40 which was pleasing.
  13. Badenoch is dreadful but not in same league of evil as Braverman. She was a tiniest bit pragmatic about that EU law bonfire crap and marked her cards with the raving Brexiters.
  14. Both probably and our disgusting right wing Press will cheer her to the rafters. Of course when interviewed she sidestepped the obvious "Your parents were refugees" question. Little Facist Britain ahoy
  15. With that Spotify rebound, 'Liquor and Cigarettes' probably doing enough for a small climb on Friday. Hope it's massive as definitely my favourite of the three C+S hits this year!

Yuck at the comments below the article bashing Louise and defending the Bennets. And the Mirror is supposed to be broadly LEFT wing. :manson:
  17. 'Princess of China' is one of their few pop collaborations that really worked. Fantastic, interesting song with very heartfelt singing. 'Shiver' is a bit of a jangly earworm. 'Don't Panic' lovely understated track. Of course there was this rather groovy Fragma-ish cover that just misses the top 40. :music: LxfSCDt-By8
  18. 'Lost' is probably the weakest track on 'Viva La Vida' album and the addition of Jay Z didn't seem to do much to improve it (other than allowing for a few high profile live performances) or stop it flopping. 'Adventures of a Lifetime' I found annoying, a bit too chirpy. And to have monkeys so soon after elephants - no thanks! :hand: But I see it's got a few big fans.
  19. Found 'Magic' a bit dull tbh and was really annoyed that they didn't push the superior 'Midnight' as a proper single. 'Christmas Lights' is pretty divine and one of those festive tracks that deserves to go top 40 each year. Doesn't quite fit the feel of those US biased, more joyful, retro playlists on Spotify to do much better though.
  20. Lol didnt last long - afraid that 'Another Love' is at 40 and 'Black Friday' at 43
  21. Yep just listened to 'Arabesque' again now and pretty amazing especially the French language bit and the ending. 'God put a smile on Your Face' seemed to me to be one of the Coldplay songs non-fans liked most, and I was expecting it to be higher here, although personally not my favourite and way down my ranking of 'A Rush of Blood to the Head' tracks..

I remember back in the 90s (yes old here) that Vernie and maybe Easther were really homophobic in interviewssaying that its "Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve" so was surprised there was a reunion at all with that history. Also, why are they pretending that they are OK with gay people now but not trans. Seems like always bigoted.
  23. Hope Tom Odell avoids doing a Hozier. 'Eat Your Young' also had a surprisingly high Spotify debut (10) but didn't stay long in the charts sadly.
  24. A little factoid - Coldplay are, surprisingly in my view, the second most streamed UK artist on Spotify of all time with over 27 Billion streams, according to kworb (25th biggest worldwide). Ed Sheeran is miles ahead at 5th and Dua is breathing down their necks at 27th (Adele is only at 56 but that's probably due to her delay in getting her catalogue up there).
  25. 'Hymn for the Weekend' was fantastic IMO. It's got double meaning of hedonism but also spirituality too. I loved the ending to it - vaguely Unkle-like sounding with that spacey opera sound. And although I'm pretty woke. I did think (as in the case of Avril Lavigne's 'Hello Kitty' video) that the cultural appropriation charge against the video was a bit ridiculous - a bit naff maybe but not offensive. And the video itself didn't get many dislikes either. 'Orphans' doing fairly well here - considering they were post their imperial phase It's a very rousing, inspiring track and fairly brave, considering they didn't go for the collabs or commercial feel of so many of their other singles during their late period. Don't think I ever watched the video for that so might check it out now.
