John Redwood seems to have been an MP since the dawn of time and he has been utterly loathsome on every issue ever especially hard Brexit. Really can't stand him. Good effing riddance

Yes noticeably Farage has again chickened out at standing as an MP for Reform - doesn't want yet ANOTHER loss. Reform won't win any seats at all and will flop badly.

I never watch TV on any channel. I don't miss it tbh. If BBC wasn't biased so much may have considered keeping one.

I stopped paying for a licence fee for the reason they are so biased towards the right wing and could use my money on better things than supporting this agenda.

Yep it's all a referendum on the Tories record. Tbh despite being an elections lover, I find the campaigning bit a bit dull - in some cases like May's 2017 disaster we could see a trend towards Labour (I think the good weather helped them as they could do more inspiring campaigning outdoors). But most times it doesn't make a difference - I don't see there being much of a change. Maybe a mini surge to the Greens/Indies if Palestine affects but I think even that is now priced in and the Locals shown it was a noticeable but not overall result affecting factor.

So is MTV the only established broadcast media that actually acknowledges the existence of ACR? :o

What a day and a pitiful announcement. I'm not a huge fan of Starmer's Labour for all the reasons many of you are here but I hope to God that the Tories get knocked out something rotten. Even though I like his policies I personally don't go with the Owen Jones theory of "Shoe-in for Labour", vote for Green or Independent. There's been way too many disappointing evenings where the non Tory parties have knocked each other out to try and play the next move early. A lot of my leftist friends feel differently though. We do have to hope for proper tactical voting for Lib Dems in the posh South and West-country. But can't see anything but Sunak's Tories being toast. Reform under Tice won't do much either. And I wouldn't expect a pre-election stunt that Farage's Brexit party did for Johnson in 2019. That worked well because of the characters involved and the actual prize of Brexit. It'd be interesting to see how the evil right wing press play this - will Murdoch's Sun and Times go (reluctantly) for Starmer? Will Mail and Telegraph so half hearted in on him as well - it's interesting that they really want to trip up the more unpredictable, naturally left wing and popular Angela Rayner instead. I think they'll go ultra hard on Labour after the election so it will be important to enjoy the night itself for what it is! Glad that this is way before the US election so some of the tactics in play there which would be truly horrific won't be in place much for this election (although interesting to see how badly photo ID effects the outcome, I think a lowish turnout may supress that). Israel/Palestine could be significant - both in terms of Muslim voters abandoning Labour for George Galloway's party and independents but also in terms of whether there is lot of Zionist/Israeli propaganda in play a la Eurovision.

Well they can't push through any more hateful legislation then if an election is called. Weren't they going to crackdown further on protests for example?
  9. B-b-but I thought Brexit Britain would lead the world in our exceptionalism! In all seriousness, I think that's a bit of a factor too - the country seems to have lost its confidence, a huge amount of its money, its reputation and also affects ability of British acts to build up a name in touring in Europe. Also talking about the big 2, Adele barely releases anything and Ed Sheeran's music doesn't seem to cut through in the more cynical post pandemic world, although can't write him off completely.

Thanks - I think Florence Welch slightly underperformed in the female rate due to being seen as leading a group (although no way of knowing but think someone said as much) so think they deserve group votes. On wiki they are listed as one.

And does Florence and the Machine count for this rate as well as solo female? Guess Divine Comedy do.
  12. Wow - although hardly ever feel sorry for a Tory MP what an ordeal Craig McKinlay has had to go through. :( And standing for re-elction too. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/articl...d-due-to-sepsis
  13. Although buying a year up front for £99 is definitely more preferable as only £8.25 a month pro rata, just realised via Martin Lewis' moneysavingexpert that with monthly subscriptions, you can dodge the £1 price rise to £11.99 if you don't listen to audiobooks (which I definitely don't intend to) and just switching to a "Basic" account (which is exactly the same as the Premium without Audiobooks) for £10.99 https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/2024...lan-audiobooks/
  14. Love 'Chihiro' and glad that's set to go top 10 this week.

Loads of Oldies and rich people who don't want to pay more tax because they don't like society.. private school fees tax I hear is an issue. My heart bleeds.
  16. Just had the same experience - Espresso autoplay after Billie. It'd make more sense to be Chapelle Roan if anything (or Alanis No Pressure Over Cappuccino if they had to play a coffee related post album track :coffee:
  17. Fake Plastic Trees was one of my favourite songs ever (although Pyramid Song came very close to topping it). That and Street Spirit were best tracks on The Bends but pretty much s great album start ro finish. I actually agree with Thom Yorke though that High and Dry is weak by their standards. Fine but a bit too ordinary.
  18. Depends on definition of one hit wonder. Joan had a no. 33 hit in.the UK a few months after with 'St Teresa' which had similar religious lyrics..didn't chart in her native US and no.further chart hits.

Hmmm I wonder if you're thinking what I'm thinking and with the Power of Pinkfong we can ge the deserved Baby Shark Supremacy at no.1 :magic:

Can't wait for this either! Wasn't around for this last time but my 30 pointer wasn't even top 100. Hope I can help them in....

Apart from As It Was nothing really outstaying its welcome for a change - Artemas and Hozier if anything are fading a bit too fast for my liking
  22. 'One of Us' was very unusual for a top 10 hit, then and now as lyrically it's a theology discussion/contemplation set to music. Can't think of many others - there have of course been worship tracks but nothing that jumps to mind that is more meaning of life. Kate Bush 'Sat in Your Lap', Sam Sparro 'Black and Gold' possibly. Great tune though - and even that style wasn't very typical of the charts. Just a surprise hit all round. So many other great tracks already in year 'Street Spirit' is hauntingly beautiful of course and 'Lifted' is of course radio friendly but very lovely, sunny soul without cynicism.
  23. Slight Return     A surprise that this made no.2 as The Bluetones were fairly unknown but OMG this is just perfect, heartfelt indie pop. One of the best - though I also rated 'If' just as highly from them.
  24. Expected better in the UK tbh. At least it beat Eden Golan though!
  25. Forgot this was out - listening to now. Will be ages till I know if this is her best, especially as her last two are absolutely 10/10 for me but starting the listen after listen party now to find out.
