Streaming Services Chart Discussion
Could you categorise 'Take Me Back to London' as UK rap? - that had 5 weeks at no.1. The regular version had Stormzy and of course the remix had a couple more rappers.

Businesses can discriminate against LGBTQ+ Americans
The Republicans would undoubtedly pack the courts too but that's a worry for the future, and FWIW think they have no chance to win in 2024. But in the here and now, for such regressive, authoritarian crap being passed by Supreme Court during a Democrat presidency must be stopped any way how.

The Tory fibs and fabrishications thread, Mk III
Agreed but blue on blue violence is great. Plus Goldsmith is correct about our current Government betraying future generations by not giving a crap about the planet.

But why do the Dems always play nice? - they should have packed the courts with friendly judges when they had the chance. Now it's a hard right majority in the court for a minority of views. Incredibly undemocratic.

US Hot 100 – 07/01/2023
Well it's kinda ironic that the no.2 Luke Combs sings a song as a checkout girl given the madness they have about gender roles in the US currently. Didn't have 'Eyes Closed' being higher in the US chart than the UK chart 13 weeks on - I know it's suffered from ACR in UK but holding up pretty well here.

Yay! The economy!
Agreed, I'm no economist but anyone thinking that big corporations do things out of the good of their hearts is in la la land. Sadly rampant capitalism is destroying society and the planet. But it's too entrenched in people's DNA to turn back sadly.

Buzzjack's Favourite Female Solo Singer
Thanks so much for this rate Gezza. Really great fun to read and certainly lead to me reconnecting with a few blasts from the past and discovering new music. Great that a lot of my fave alternative artists climbed so much (although slightly sad Kate Bush didn't make top 10). Of the top 10, Madonna was my favourite, although having nothing decent since 'Confessions of a Dancefloor' surely means that she is sure to lose her crown next time unless she pulls something amazing out of the bag!

Buzzjack's Favourite Female Solo Singer
Was wondering whether there would be a male version - hadn't started posting by then . Thought possibly not bearing in mind Buzzjack. :P Genuinely shocked MJ won though based on the extra curricular activities as although never found officially guilty, by 2020 the tide was definitely against him and then Leaving Neverland had been released. Ed Sheeran very very low at 19 - thought he'd pick up more casual votes (as not a negative poll). Anyhow, digress. Gags vs Madge it is - I think the latter should just take it but happy with either outcome.

Elon Musk's descent into insanity
Oh is he actually still stepping down? Anyway he's turned it into such a far right hell hole that actual Right wing equivalents such as Parler have had to close as there's no need for them. Recently of course we've had Musk's blatant partnership with the terrifyingly homophobic Ron de Santis, bullying scientists unless they "debate" Covid with shock jocks and conspiracy theorists, raising fake accounts of leftwingers (AOC) etc etc And yet the progressives haven't yet found a platform that they can move too en masse - a bit depressing.

Yep Pink way too high- I personally find her style a bit brash but more importantly cannot think of a single thing she's done musically which has covered new ground. Very standard pop. Hope Madonna and Gaga are the top 2.

Oh apart from making jokes about trans people during Pride Month. https://www.thepinknews.com/2023/06/18/rish...n-leaked-video/ He's so brave and really punches up you see!

Yay! The economy!
It's a horrible situation but it would be extremely unfair if homeowners got subsidies when they have considerable advantages over renters anyhow. That said, I understand how finely balanced these things are.

Britney has had some fantastic singles love 'Circus', 'To the World Ends' and 'Everytime' most) but prob deserved a fall on the basis of that 'Hold Me Closer' monstrosity alone! :kink:

Taylor is an artist that does nothing for me. Just kind of there. I mean "Shake it Off" and "LoveStory" are kind of iconic but the rest is so so average. There's singer songwriters who go far deeper and pop/dance singers who produce better bangers.

How long will Boris last as PM?
Oh quelle surprise! He's getting paid a very high 6 figure salary to write a weekly column for the Daily Heil! :mansoncheer:

How long will Boris last as PM?
Yes Cameron and Osbourne claimed they were caring, co-opted a principle free narcissist (Clegg) and went on a project to make the poorest and vulnerable suffer most whilst ensuring their wealthy friends and backers earned even more. All whilst saying "We are in this together". Oh and pretending to be green one day and then saying "let's cut the green crap" from their manifesto in private.

US Hot 100 – 06/17/2023
I would have thought in the early chart it would be more likely as covers/standards were a big thing. Can't immediately recall an exact match to your situation although 'The Boy From New York City' originally made no.8 in the US for the Ad Libs in 1965 (but not charted in the UK). However, a cover by The Darts made no.2 in the UK 1978 and Manhattan Transfer made no.7 in the US in 1981.

How long will Boris last as PM?
Despite all of the horsecrap we have about his honours list (and won't Liz Truss get her resignation list despite screwing up the country during the few hours she was at the helm) what is pleasing is that so called drip drip of resignations of Tory MPs supposedly happening over the weekend stopped after Nadine Dorries and that other one I can't even remember. I mean the runctions would have been fun but please no more of this ghastly thing.

I absolutely love 'Hometown Glory' with that haunting piano but not a big Adele fan. It's like that song is from a different artist - it's more early Fiona Applesque/Tori I would say.

Theoretical Streaming & charts pre 2000
Thank God that they didn't have streaming back then as a lot of my favourite artists (the likes of Tori Amos, Bjork, PJ Harvey etc) would have hardly have any top 40 hits at all! Plus the likes of Savage Garden ('To The Moon and Back' excepted) having MORE weeks in the charts.... :puke2: Guess it depends if you are talking about the period where streaming had just started being counted and sales were still relevant or now where they really aren't apart from the odd charity/novelty single.

Yep really thought Kate would go top 10 - and with her position revealed all of my top 12 artists gone. Top 3 albums for her are The Dreaming, The Red Shoes and The Kick Inside. Favourite songs - Leave it Open, Wuthering Heights (new vocal), Moments of Pleasure Although RUTH is an absolute classic, I never was fully on board with the Stranger Things resurgence, partly because I never watched it and partly I kind of wished another song got a revival as that had already had its time in the sun (and the Olympic renaissance). But still very pleased for her (and to get top 3 in the USA after never going above no.30 during her whole career meant a grave injustice was partially redeemed).

Oh I thought it would be Sonia, she hasn't been mentioned yet and no way that Buzzjack would ignore such a musical Eurovision queen and late 80s colossus. :cheeseblock:

It's more her music I find very meh and unmemorable - especially after 'Music Box'. She was great until then.

How long will Boris last as PM?
Well he's completely gone as MP now let alone PM! What a disastrous road that this man put our country down and the utter waste of finance for a Brexit project he didn't believe in that could have been used for about a million better things. The sad thing is that our institutions and services will continue to crumble and our most vulnerable people will suffer and die as a result. I personally doubt he'll do a comeback in a meaningful way. He's not got the strength of character (albeit in a horrific evil version) or popularity that Trump has. Plus his support for Ukraine means that he won't be considered a Trump ally. Just like most things about the little Britain he made happen, we are increasingly irrelevant on the world stage. He'll make money on the speakers' circuit for God known reasons but, in a way, that doesn't matter. To most people he'll become synonymous with failure and deceit.

By-elections 2024
Ewww at Jacob Rees Mogg Knighted and Andrea Jenkyns and Priti Patel becoming dames. At least nothing for Dorries and his wandering hands father!
