Coldplay - Rate Results
Love love 'The Hardest Part' to bits. I should have given it a 10. The 'X and Y' album was a massive comfort to me in a very difficult period of my life and that track along with album tracks such as 'A Message', 'Swallowed by the Sea' and the title track helped especially. It was played enough on the radio to be a single I thought. 'Strawberry Swing' although clearly not commercial enough to be a hit (song structure isn't exactly radio friendly) is divine/heavenly.Sort of thing they would put as a closing scene in a movie with a happy ending after a lot of hardship. 'Something Just Like This' was a great catchy Coldplay track. I think.the Chainsmokers ruined it slightly with that choppy, tropical sound (mind you I absolutely hated 'Closer' to bits). 'Hurts Like Heaven' doesn't deserve to beat those three IMO as nothing special.

The UK and transphobia
The increase in transphobic opinion is depressing, although I like to remind myself it isn't an issue that the majority of people wake up in the morning worrying about compared to say cost of living, health or even immigration. The Tories' obsession with it (helped all the way by our disgusting media) isn't exactly giving them a big lead in the polls. That's of no consolidation to the trans people, their allies (and let's not forget trans appearing people) who suffer abuse and discrimination on a more frequent basis.

Was going to ask why does it take until 21st for 'September' to chart? Then I read the lyrics- d'oh! Mind you we get Christmas songs charting way way way before the correct date unfortunately. Poor old Jack's going to get depressed very soon. :(

Thought 'Up & Up' was slightly cheesy. 'Everglow' pleasant but nothing ground-breaking. Definitely thinking that these are coming out in the right kind of order. There's no massive hit that everyone hates appearing.

Interesting. What are the theories (or is there an article you referencing?) Lots of very different sounding new entries to the top 40 this week. Like when that happens.

Friday Chart Predictions
One thing to note re female vocal domination is that it seems to be much prominent in the UK due to how massive dance and pop is but in the US Billboard Hot 100 it's still overwhelmingly male dominated - especially if you consider the whole chart and not just the top. That's mainly due to genres such as country (which is more popular than ever) the regional Mexican trend and hip hop being far more male friendly. Note that this week is probably a rare one of female dominance in the Billboard Hot 100 with the entirety of the Olivia Rodrigo album going top 40 although 'Vampire' excepted the singles aren't doing as well there as in the UK.

I don't really think Coldplay do bad songs just ones less good than their best. The last album I properly listened to was Mylo Xytolo (or whatever it was called) so anything after, unless it was a hit, would struggle in my rate. That said 'Ink' sounded very nice on first listen.

The Tory fibs and fabrishications thread, Mk III
Well the foreign owned by billionaires media wanted Trussism and they've now got it. Only without Truss itself. They would never have got there anyway so at least they're being honest. The really mad thing is that almost all these top politician have children - I would have thought that they would have wanted a decent future for them but clearly not.

Olivia Rodrigo - GUTS
'Vampire' back to no.1 on Billboard Hot 100 and 'bad idea right' gets a new peak at 7.

Russell Brand: In Plain Sight
Anyway Brand has been cancelled from his comedy shows - he had 3 left on his current tour. Apparently on his show at Wembley during weekend he got a standing ovation from the crowd. Just vile considering the circumstances :manson:

Russell Brand: In Plain Sight
It's noticeable that so many of the commentators who go on about "protecting women" to justify their horrific transphobia are the ones who are protecting Russell Brand - saying that it's because he speaks truth against the mainstream media aren't at all bothered about the sexual assault allegations against women in the slightest. And the idea that the media companies (Which includes the right wing Murdoch press in this instance) would go to all that trouble of making up these sexual abuse investigations to bring him down based on his current output is absolutely laughable. Yes he has lots of followers, but he's just one of many many useful idiots and far from being the most influential. Plus he changes his stance like the weather in any case. Wonder if Katy Perry will make a statement too.

Didn't think ArrDee would get another top 40 but 'Liquor and Cigarettes' has had a promising start and it's sounding really good on first listen!

Russell Brand: In Plain Sight
That's why hes coming out with the "Mainatream media trying to cancel me because I speak Truth' crap  And a certain proportion of people certainly will to be fair. No regards for the victims.

Russell Brand: In Plain Sight
Lots of articles about it such as https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2...ndroidApp_Other He poses as a "I'm just asking questions" type of presenter but this year only amplifies right and far right voices. The fact he was left wing (and doesn't explicitly say he's not nowadays) means he's valuable to the alt right as they can say "Even Russell Brand thinks the left have gone too woke nowadays"

Russell Brand: In Plain Sight
Well he gushed over Ron de Santis who has applied a horrific homophobic policy of LGBT erasure in schools. He's definitely gone to the dark side with his interviews - whether it's because of the money or he's brainwashed due to the fact he's a dry drunk/addict not getting treatment. Luckily in the UK we see very little of him nowadays thankfully.

Russell Brand: In Plain Sight
Russell Brand whether he is guilty of this or not is a 100% A grade Nazi promoting tosspot!

Love 'Marea' and 'Delilah' but glad Fred Again got a top 5. Even though he seems to get stick in some areas because he's posh.

Very good track although I think it's a bit too similar to 'bad idea right' for single no.3. She's not gone for a 'Driver's License' type ballad as a single yet - guess that's her choice. And best 'Get Him Back' track is still by Fiona Apple.
