The original 'When You Believe didn't even have that great a chart run entering at 4 then falling to 14 the next week. And I don't recall it being played much on the radio. Did even worse in US - only peaked at 15 there despite the artists involved!

Finally heard this track today as not been in a rush as not rrally a Sam Smith fan but loving this - that drop is unexpected and quite beautiful really. Probably too subtle to be as big as 'Miracle'

Wow having to wait 70 years of the charts for an all female top 5 seems wrong! I remember (old fart) in February 1990, much was made in the press about 9 of the top 10 having female vocalists, in fact all of the top 6 were, with Phil Collins being the only male vocalist. True - and this whole story is another example of the culture wars. I have to care for my elderly parents and they have GB News on all day every effin day so am around it ( :banghead: ). To be fair, not absolutely everything they have is dreadful - but a lot of it is evil, divisive, far right propaganda. One habit they have is to take relatively minor stories like this and go on about it all day ad-nauseum with panels of ghastly right wing journos. This was a massive focus on "Police should be out catching criminals" "Police shouldn't be worried about hate crime" " Police should have thicker skin" - this poor child etc etc Not saying that there isn't legitimacy in the police being wrong on this occasion but why are they making such a fuss about this and not about everything else that is going on. I'm sorry (well I'm not) but I always have to think "Which media outlets" are pushing this and "Why"? Thanks spiceboy for the extra context to this.

It's not as good as 'Vampire' - which is probably the best single of the year so far for me but this is quirky yet quality. I'd be very pleased if it got to no.1 - it's funny but has the elements of relationship tragedy we're used to with Olivia. Reminds me a little bit of the band Garbage in places too. Good she's not afraid to take risks and express herself like this.

Good that Tom MacDonald's 'American Flags' failed to make the Hot 100 - probably due to releasing same week as Travis and Post Malone but really don't need something so horrible that makes 'Try this in a Small Town' seem like 'We Are The World' getting chart success.

'Don't Play' deserves to be no.1 - to be honest thought it be higher than 7. Obviously 'Rockabye' great too but really sad that Anne Marie took Ina Wrolsden's place on it :no:

I completely agree with that. Yes the Taliban are a horrific, authoritarian , violent misogynistic, homophobic organisation but they do exist. At least in the UK, they're not a presence but progressives (including the young) in Afghanistan have to live under their regime. To ban even the word being mentioned on UK radio is so airbrushing the world and mollycoddling listeners it's ridiculous and almost trivialises the Afgan victims of them * And I know the track isn't directly about the organisation but the point still stands.
