The charts for the vast majority of their lifetime was never about most listened to was about sales and in my opinion made for a more interesting, diverse chart. Also the majority of "albums" outside the top spots nowadays tend to be Greatest Hits based on people streaming individual tracks from the artists but rarely consuming the album. If it wasn't for these new albums you'd have the same Greatest Hits by Weeknd, Abba, Eminem etc clogging up the top end of the chart week after week.

Yep Johnson (who is actually more to the left than Sunak on some issues) would cause carnage in the party if returned but doubt he will there, he's lost his mojo (oh dear!) Do Lib Dems want to rejoin the EU nowadays, I've now lost track. That would go down well in the non-red wall seats in the General Election. Wish Labour and Lib Dems did some kind of agreement (unlike in 2019 people won't mind) - makes me nervous that they don't.

Nice that the Tory tree killers there were voted out. Overall though (and I again expect with very minimal hype whatsoever for the Lib Dems to smash it out of the park tomorrow with some juicy results), these aren't brilliant for Labour considering how much of a shitshow the Tories are.

So there's going to be a lot of tactical voting which will cost the Tories dearly I hope! Interestingly Rehman Chisti (Tory MP for Gillingham) has bravely gone right out and said Suella Braverman's rhetoric is harming them and playing to the Far Right. Could be a very interesting couple of days!

My dad is standing as a Tory councillor in Surrey (:puke2:) - as a paper candidate as not expected to be elected in his ward. Weirdly we get on vast majority of the time. I hope he does lose though as he's not in the best health anyway so wouldn't be suitable to do so.

So the anti trans laws now being put through in Republican states like Texas means that Schools can't take pupils to see 'James and the Giant Peach' as some male actors play female characters and vice versa even if that's common in ensemble productions to reduce the numbers of actors. https://www.thepinknews.com/2023/05/04/texa...-peach-houston/ I mean there's horrifically bad anti LGBT hate crime done every day but this is a bonkers and sinister consequence of legislation passed in state after state. Sad times.

I don't get a vote as in London but hope Tories do atrociously obviously. I had a discussion with a good friend who we broadly have very similar views politically. He refuses to vote Labour point blank under Starmer as leader as doesn't trust him (rightly) and think he's too right wing (correct) Luckily he lives in an ultra safe Labour seat like I do so his vote won't matter but I still think that this evil Tory government have to be taken out of ALL costs - a decent PM would be a 'nice to have'. Just hope his views aren't copied too much in the General Election.
  8. Zach Bryan not going to recurrent (outside top 25, >52 weeks) although country stars especially seem to avoid that rule because it's still gaining somewhere? Still it's an excellent track so no bother there.
  9. Why understandable as matter of interest? I don't think she's any good but she wasn't any good back then personally.
  10. Love Katy B especially 'Katy on a Mission' and 'Crying for No Reason', probably my favourite singles in their respective years.
  11. I've checked a few posts of his on Twitter and he's absolutely vile and can tell he's consumed by anger, self hatred and completely f***ed up. Looks like he's about to cry everytime he opens his mouth. He makes Andrew Tate seem subtle (although Tate is more dangerous surely because more intelligent).

Yep both Outhere Brothers no.1 were offensive puerile trash although the one you mention did have a remix which stripped out the smut and was a half decent banger (and played on radio) Can't seem to post the link but it's here. Called the Townhouse radio edit.

Love this thread. I recently heard a no.1 that I have no idea if it was controversial at the time (maybe some of our ahem seasoned Buzzjackers would know) but just can't imagine the lyrics being played on daytime radio today. That one is 'Suicide is Painless' the theme to MASH which was no.1 in 1980 which has lyrics that could be interpreted as encouraging suicide. What is darkly prophetic is that the Manic Street Preachers took a cover of the song to the top 10 in 1992 with the then guitarist and lyricist Richey Edwards still a member. A few years later he disappeared- widely believed to be suicide.
  14. Thought Zara would be much bigger as she recently had her own Buzzjack forums. Love Sophie's 'Whaler' album
  15. It's a bit sad that despite being American, Lizzie McAlpine's 'Ceilings' is only a minor hit in the USA compared with UK. And David Kushner's debut is far lower in his home country (48) then UK (3). This Regional Mexican trend is very prominent and I took a peak at next week predictions and its force is increasing!
  16. Absolute banger - can't wait till the Ice Spice remix is out and it starts a Tik Tok dance craze before it crashes Spotify. :music: In all seriousness, very uncommercial lead, even by her standards. Possibly only 'When Under Ether' from 'White Chalk' was less instant. That said sounds atmospheric and probably fit in well in context of album. Let's hope she still has it after all these years off.

Yep these puns are Driving me mad!
  18. Thanks so much for this Julian. The no.1 was never in doubt but thrilled about 'The Show Must Go On" being no.2
  19. Lol thats what bloody Donald Trump said about his "charity single" beating Taylor and Miley went it didn't even make the US Hot 100 at all officially

Joe Biden with the horrendously difficult in-tray- Covid, Ukraine, horrific right wing opponents has done incredibly well. Love his sass as well as he sees through the UK Brexit bullshit and snubbing the Coronation nonsense. And he stands up for abortion and trans rights publicly. Such a contrast to Starmer his UK equivalent.
  21. Yay excellent news. And she's collaborating with John Parish and Flood. I thought her last album 'Hope Six Demolition Project' was OK but not worth the huge wait and my least favourite of her albums. So hope this is a return to form. Hope it's very challenging but in a good way!
  22. 'Hollywood' by Marina was absolutely amazing song - should have been massive. Loved 'Family Jewels' album.
  23. No-one comes out of this well. Abbot's comments were bad and to use a "first-draft" nonsense as an excuse is like me going yo a manager and saying my dog ate the report I didn't write.Be an adult and admit to it. But people are purely focusing on the antisemitism part of the letter but ignoring Gypsy, Roma, Travellers whose experience of racism she marginalised. And huge number of MPs make anti trans comments or demonise refugees on a daily basis and they are celebrated by the media and no chance of them losing the whip. She won't come back to Labour as the media will go ape but the whole situation and hypocrisy around her treatment stinks a bit.
  24. Surprising that a megastar like Gloria Estefan never had a top 5 hit although several of her songs came mighty close. Also that three of her biggest UK hits ('Anything for You', 'Can't stay away from you' and 'Don't wanna lose you') were MOR ballads all ending with 'You' and extremely similar reflective lyrics about relationships which aren't going well where although she doesn't want it to end she will accept it if that is his wish. :(
  25. Point taken - I was largely going by my personal opinion (and of my friends). Forgot about Lady Gaga - very strong contender but Madonna probably would have slightly more overall appeal of all ages.
