  1. One great track 'Green Onions' - don't actually know it but sounds lovely and surprised it's as old as 1962. Would have placed it late 60s. That Dr Hook I didn't know either but sounds pleasant like most of their tracks. I don't think we needed a cover of 'I Wanna Hold Your Hand' and especially not this version! Styx 'Babe' is cheesy slush with no redeeming features whatsoever.

UN Security council now finally (because of US changing their Veto to an abstention) demands an immediate ceasefire from Israel. Even Donald Trump is now saying that Israel should stop the war. But we know that Israel will only stop their genocide at the very last opportunity sadly.

Teddy Swims doesn't have an official video just a live performance.

Well TikTok is getting banned in the USA and probably UK won't follow on too far behind....

Well if they're not making any money and since there's financial costs involved then I'm saying not needed. Rarely do I find a music video essential nowadays.
  6. Very contrasting top 2 but both great tracks. I agree with TheSnake that Pretenders sounds very ahead of its time whereas Billy Preston/Syreeta sounds very 70s with its haunting, flowing orchestral feel. Reminds me a bit of the late 70s ballads from Minnie Riperton (Loving You) and Rose Royce ('Wishing on a Star', 'Love Don't Live Here Anymore'). Madness - don't think I ever loved a song by then but neither really disliked one - 'My Girl' was okay. The Nolans - 'I'm in the Mood For Dancing' was an excellent track - a bop as they would say now. Of course we were lumbered with one of the band members who became a reactionary presenter on daytime Television but hey ho!
  7. I'm a massive Pink Floyd fan and could write a thesis about 'The Wall' album. I won't but this was a very unexpected no.1 as they had been an albums band only once Syd Barrett left the band in the late 60s. 'The Wall' album overall is an acquired taste - very vast, deep and depressing in places (I love it though) but was a stroke of inspired genius to put a disco beat behind this track and release as a single An iconic animation by Gerald Scarfe of teacher putting children through meat grinders and hey presto a million seller. The Police 'Walking on.the Moon' was a very atmospheric, moody track too. Great when I finally got into it. I didn't actually know 'Day Trip to Bangor' so am listening to it for first (and probably) last time. Hmmm, maybe you had to be there to get the joke or something.... Not massively fan of KC and Sunshine's band's 'Please Dont Go' but a million times better than the KWS monstrosity in 1992!
  8. As working from home I spent a LOT of time listening to the end of year top UK 100s starting from 1978 onwards so will know all these hits extremely well. 1980-1982 are easily the most interesting years of the 80s IMO as top 10 music was rawer, less formed back then and became more and more polished and commercial as the decade went on (although 88 and 89 appeal to me as love dance music from that time). There's lots of big stars and very well known hits this year though so something for everyone
  9. I only know 'Bad Moon Rising' but it is fantastic.

Thanks. That completely passed me - pleasant tune!

Bumping this thread. Have there been any instrumental top 40 hits since Ten Walls 'Walking with Elephants' back in Sept 2014 apart from Mark Knopfler likely to get one this Friday? Before I even bumped this thread the last one I could definitely remember was Ten Walls. They really seemed to have died a death in streaming era. But maybe I've missed some.
  12. Such a shame that nothing has taken Twitter's place. Even Zuckerberg's Threads would be preferable.
  13. No-one will share a tear at ACR's disappearance? Bit of a sweeping statement and certainly doesn't reflect many on the forums. Charts will be much duller without it especially around Christmas.
  14. I want to start replying to these - I would love it if we did 78 and 79 as they had amazing tracks (78 especially) but guess 80 makes sense. Lots of great tracks from 80-82 to comment on - some very adventurous! Thanks

Oi leave those sharks alone! Nothing is stopping other YouTube videos getting higher streams and people are loving the song which is fairly good objectively...
  16. Holly's been back in the media recently and she's joined Reform, said that Trump is a lovely person and also says she thinks that concern about the climate is alarmism. I'm so relieved that we have the wisdom of the singer of 'Down Boy' to correct virtually the whole scientific community and can relax about all the unprecedented, damaging weather incidents over the last year. :cheer:
  17. Anyone catch Stephen Flynn, Westminster SNP leader, on Question Time yesterday? They had the Anders Breivik idol, deranged racist Melanie Phillips on claiming that there was no famine in Gaza because she had seen YouTube videos of food on shelves! :manson: (Even Tory stooge Fiona Bruce had to call out that bs) and he completely destroyed her., Plus he was excellent on the Diana Abbot racism affair too. Got morals and strength and freedom to say that. So we get the best opposition from within the UK, not from our mealy mouthed official opposition leader who wants to suppress what his MPs say on the big issues affecting us but from someone who wants to break up the UK. Ironic but badly needed. And Scots show up England yet again.
  18. I really wouldn't rule out Farage becoming leader of the Tories possibly after Badenoch does it for a while but fails to impress as although she's undeniably awful is not quite as nasty or the right colour for the Tory voters. She'll be painted as "woke" before too long like Sunak has often become. Mind you they have to be an MP don't they - I'm not even sure if he'd win the most comfortable by election they can find so maybe not.
  19. Yes Starmer inexplicably fails to give her the whip back - she made a very public point of wanting it back when Starmer approached her out of "concern". Now would be the perfect time to do so. Is he really scared of tabloid headlines to do so? Weak if so.
  20. Didn't Kanye have this big Jesus album like 4 years ago - and since then he's gone full Nazi and atrocious misogynistic crude lyrics. And gets a US no.1 out of it. The track has a good atmosphere about it, I grant you but just ewwww!
  21. In a shockingly but sadly unsurprisingly burst of hypocrisy The Sun has on their front page a plea for people on the internet to not speculate and to leave Kate Middleton alone. Meghan Markle/Princess Diana anyone? :manson:

Another Sunday, another European country veers far right - this time Portugal with the Chega party on 18% of the votes. The socialists will lose power and likely a centre right coalition will take hold with Chega potentially kingmakers. :(
  23. Pope says Ukraine has to compromise with Russia....oh dear.
  24. Talking to American friends in London tonight and they think Trump has it in the bag. I hope to God they're wrong but that's what they're saying - mainly due to Biden being old and ineffectual

Yes it was a very fawning interview. Tbh it was for the most part pretty standard hard right stuff and she didn't make a complete embarrassment of herself when she's interviewed by a slightly more challenging interviewer The worst thing she said, albeit unsurprising, was the complete Israel 100% right, conflict all started 10/7, Israel only democratic country in middle east garbage.
