Ouch @ Dua. Feel bad for her, she was so excited for this release and seems really proud of the album but the quality just isn't there. Hope she still has strong enough physicals to just nab the #1 officially but with streaming numbers this poor on day 1, I don't think it's happening

The Rolling Stone review summarises my thoughts perfectly: "Moments of greatness can be found on the pop giant's latest album, but it's hard to shake the sense that she is capable of so much better." Nothing stands out for me on the album. I've listened to it end to end 3 times now and there isn't a single song where I've gotten that excitement run through me that you feel when you hear a song you love for the first time. A real shame because I absolutely adored her first two albums, especially FN, I've literally been a fan since 2015 and went to her first gig at Olso in Hackney :lol: but I've not loved any of the singles this go around so I kind of expected it tbh. I hope it does well for her though, and I really hope this one is just a small blip in her discography and she comes back with a banger of an album next go around. I feel a bit bad for her because the reception has been pretty lukewarm and she seems so proud of this album.

Same here.. I've been a fan since 2010 and know her entire music catalogue inside out, seen her live on many occasions and she's been my number 1 artist on spotify for every year she's had her music available on there by quite a big margin. I'm what you would class as a "die hard" fan, could probably recite you any song from any album end to end every single lyric on the spot :lol: the only music of hers that I've ever bought are iTunes copies of every album up until Reputation (pre-streaming era, and then because we couldn't listen to it on streaming when she removed all her music off streaming services so I had no choice lmao). I bought a Midnights vinyl,the Jade green purely because I LOVED the colour, and that was a one off. It has just sat in a drawer ever since so not really sure why I wasted 30 quid on it lol. I have many, many friends who are die hard fans also and they definitely do not buy every variant, 1 at most if any at all. The percentage of the fandom that buy into buying every single variant is nowhere near as big as some think. A lot of the people I come across on TikTok who are showing off their Taylor hauls are vinyl collectors in general and are the same people who are buying every variant of Billies, Olivias, Kylies etc

I feel like this question is only being asked since the AOTY grammy win/this week following the success of TTPD. There was minor talk of overexposure in the Midnights era but the last week in particular, everybody seems to want to make it clear that they either dislike Taylor or that this level of success isn't warranted. I'm seeing people all over tiktok make videos about how terrible they think this new album is and that they don't understand why people like her. I'm not sure why it bothers people so much.. I get this is a chart forum so naturally people are going to talk about it, but I've never seem somebody refer to the success of Ed Sheeran or Drake, for example, as ludicrous and questioned why people enjoy their music so much.. they'll simply state its not their thing and move on. Nobody gave a toss when Drake broke the streaming record. Nobody said the success Ed got with divide was unwarranted or undeserved at the time. Why is it with female artists, that they can be successful, but when they become TOO successful, it makes people feel uncomfortable subconsciously/feel the need to question why? I'll be honest, I don't think TTPD is her best work, and I was a bit disappointed by it as a long term 'Swiftie' - but I wouldn't personally agree that her work is 'slowly deflating'. I think Lover was a slight let down in comparison to 1989/Reputation but Folklore and Evermore were both phenomenal in my opinion, I didn't LOVE Midnights but I've grown to appreciate it over time and I still think its a pretty strong album.

Spotify have confirmed on their insta that TTPD has broken the single-day streaming record. According to Variety it’s done over 200M (Midnights did 185M for reference)

It had 4, then the Target (US)/HMV (UK) exclusive that was available in store only on release week, so 5.. pretty standard (in fact, many big artists have released many more variants of recent albums lol)

I will be gobsmacked if there are no tracks of Taylors over 1m+ on release day - as others have mentioned she's even more famous now than she was when Midnights was released. The ticket buying fiasco for the Eras tour was genuinely like nothing I have ever experienced and even though I knew she had grown in popularity over the previous year, that really highlighted to me how unstoppable she is now. I think this album is going to have an even bigger first week than Midnights did tbh.

Yeah, I agree with this.. I think people forget they aren’t obligated to buy every variant lol. The same people that buy every single variant are the same people that complain that there’s so many. Like, you don’t HAVE to buy them all? And the more you buy, the more variants we’re going to end up with hahaha. If there’s a market for it..

I was literally gobsmacked. I thought she would win something, there was no way they could snub her completely after the year she had. I thought Anti Hero would maybe have a shot at SOTY/ROTY but there was not a single part of me that thought Midnights would even be a contender for AOTY. I thought once she won Best Pop Vocal Album that would be it. Again it sounds like I'm bashing her, I'm not at all, she is my favourite artist in the world, but it does feel a bit like it only won because of how massive of a year she had overall, not because of the quality of the album. In my opinion Midnights is in the bottom 3 of her albums quality wise. Like, I can't get my head around the fact that Red lost its nomination but Midnights won :cry: I guess its down to the competition though (although I do think Lana/SZAs albums were stronger than Midnights). Either way, I will root for her being the first to ever win AOTY 4 times!

Woah I was NOT expecting this to win AOTY! As much as she's my girl, I was kind of rooting for SZA - but I'm glad if SZA lost to anybody, it was Taylor. Kind of bittersweet, my 2 favourite artists! I'm still very happy for her but just was not expecting it. I never really connected with this album like I did with her previous albums that ended up winning AOTY, idk :( it's a weird one. I'm not making any sense here am I? Lol. I'm happy for her, just a bit - meh! (although I was watching live when it was announced and my heart was literally racing and I couldn't stop smiling, so am I just kidding myself? hahaha)

I woke up by complete chance at around 4:15am UK time and saw that she had announced this and naturally got so excited I couldn't get back to sleep so thought I may as well find a livestream as the Grammys was ending in the next 15 mins, turned it on and 30 seconds later she won AOTY. It was a dramatic morning :magic:
