  1. The presenters said - several times - that it did. I'm still unclear if it was just streaming from the date on which streaming points counted for the chart, or since 1 January, which would make more sense. If what we've listened to today changed the rules part way through the year, then it's a pretty meaningless chart, as well as not counting today's NYE sales, which famously changed the #1 album of the year (from Keane to Scissor Sisters?) a few years ago. I'll wait for the official sales lists... Thanks to all who have made this much more interesting than just listening to the radio. Not so many thanks to those who just feel compelled to tell us whether they love/hate a song, with nothing else interesting to say. I don't care, and neither does anyone else. It just clogs up a very busy discussion. Happy new year!
  2. You guys are doing a great job (and I'm just catching up). You might want to correct this though, back at #88. 'Roar' was definitely #1 in 2013, not 2014!
  3. I don't think running a chart for 365 consecutive days is entirely practical... (Perhaps you meant the other way round.) ;)

As survey designs go, having three positive outcomes and two negative is pretty poor and won't give you a valid result. (One option is neutral. That's okay.) This is how you design bias into a survey if you want to produce a more positive outcome. It would be better to start again and either add 'bad' to counterbalance the 'good' option, or remove one of the positive options.
  5. <<2005 998 Steve Brookstein Against All Odds 999 Elvis Presley Jailhouse Rock 1000 Elvis Presley One Night >> You're missing 50% of the 1,000th #1's double A side. It's 'One Night'/'I Got Stung'.
  6. You can get that from everyhit.com, where this numbered list has been available for many years: http://everyhit.com/number.html They stopped updating it a year ago though, but since then the numbers have also been added to the Wikipedia list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_numbe..._the_2010s_(UK)
  7. Blimey, there have been some turnarounds, haven't there?! Our first week leader is down to 22nd, and 8 of the top ten have climbed consistently in weeks 2 AND 3. I'm happy to be one of them and scrape into the top ten. You're missing today's position (17 again) for Florence, by the way.
  8. Wahey! I was 20th last week and 7th this week? That's quite a change in fortunes. I think that nine place LEAP (I'm going to call it a leap) from 20th to 11th makes me the biggest climber, does it not? Well chuffed. Cheers. More importantly, I have overtaken Tom. ;-)
  9. This is great to see. (The list itself, not my position in it.) Thanks. It has confirmed my role in life as 'distinctly average'. The presence of so much blue at the bottom of the list seems to show that those of us who entered early may live to regret our impatience! We shall see. At least your average figures seemed to vaguely reflect my own guesses. None of them seem wildly out from the pack. Good turnout too. Just out of interest, how many of the 35 are female? It looks very male dominated, from the names that are obvious! Chig
  10. They have a poor credit rating as well? Strewth. Is nothing going right for The X Factor?
  11. Who is 'they'? The production company? If Gary Barlow writes a new song, he gets the writer's royalties. The X Factor may also give him a fee for writing it. If a Damien Rice song is used, Damien Rice gets the writer's royalties. Same with any other cover version. So, the possible fee is the only thing affecting the production company. They're not affected by the royalties, one way or the other.
  12. That WAS the previously announced deal. Until this week, it seems...
  13. Can we just freeze the competition now? I've got three of the first four albums EXACTLY right, as of today's chart update. I am gobsmacked. :cheer: (They will all slide by Sunday!)
  14. Exactly. I thought the deal was done and Gary was writing, or has written, the winner's song. (Not to be confused with The Winner's Song, which he wrote before. Perhaps he felt he couldn't better it?!)
  15. Oh yeah, of course. Good point. I hadn't sent a private msg on here until I did my entry yesterday, but luckily I did tick that box!
  16. No need, surely? Your messages should be in your 'Sent Items'.
  17. I've just sent you my entry, as I'm sure I'll need the 15% discount! I'm already regretting some of my choices... Fun though, so thanks.

"due to post xmas stocking filler purchases" They will still be PRE-Christmas purchases in the single's second week; that's the point. I'm sure that's what you meant...

It's probably worth mentioning that Take That's Babe single initially came in a rather splendid, spiral-bound 1994 calendar, which fans such as myself made sure they bought on the first day of release. That probably helped to spike sales even more in week one than their previous singles and let them drop enough in week two. (It had more to do with Mr. Blobby's ridiculous popularity at the time though, sadly.) Chig
  21. The X Factor's statement includes this Orwellian line: "He is going to take some time out before continuing his career as a singer." The words "continuing", "career" and "singer" have been instantly redefined.
  22. I saw it too and commented on their mistake. They'll probably delete my comment, just like they did with many people's comments last week on other chart news. The OCC encourages commenting, but they don't seem to like it when people actually do it.
  23. They didn't 'get it wrong' on any of these occasions. The situation changed. The chart is a sales report, not a prediction competition.

    Thanks Robbie. That's very informative.
