Are the Tuesday updates not part of the service for which Music Week subscribers are paying? Are subscribers (and the wider industry) going to accept a reduction in service, while paying the same? It seems to run counter to the way every other industry is moving, where they are trying to improve levels of customer service, not make the service worse.
  2. Out of fairness to First Choice, I should correct myself. It's their ad, not Thomas Cook's.
  3. There's a TV ad (Thomas Cook?) which has obviously benefited Good Feeling, and probably had a knock-on effect with Levels too.
  4. Quite effectively, I presume? Thanks.
  5. Why did Earthquake sell so well at the start of the week? I saw a reference to it being used in the BBC's NYE coverage. Can someone explain how it was used?
  6. Chart Run: 1-1-1-3-2-1-1-1-3-4-5-10-5-9 [14 wks] Rihanna and Calvin popping back up to cover the top ten positions they haven't visited yet. Just 6, 7 and 8 to cover now.
  7. In most other cases of charity singles, I would agree with you, but not in this one. 'Wherever You Are' is an original tune with a truly meaningful lyric (compiled from the messages of the partners and service personnel themselves). It has a tremendous emotional pull with millions of people. There aren't many people in this country who don't know someone in the forces either, so the appeal is incredibly widespread.
  8. It's even held on to its Wednesday update position (as have Little Mix).
  9. Such a shame for JLS, as this would have been their tenth top ten single*, but if they will (properly) release a Christmas tune in January, it's perhaps not surprising... * They've already had more, on X Factor singles, obv.
  10. So, the big chart news is that Beyonce ISN'T #22. :-)

There's certainly only one version in the iTunes top 200 at the moment. (Currently at #4.) It's not how they're following up 'Down With The Trumpets' though; that was 'When I Was A Youngster', which also made #8.

It's bizarre how JLS decided on January for the full release of their song, which is heavily based on a Christmas song! Perhaps they're hoping people don't know? Come to think of it, perhaps THEY don't know...
  13. Blimey! Alex Day has disappeared from the top 100 (from #4 last week). That's quite an achievement, albeit unwanted. On the other hand, it was close with Lou Monte, who has 'only' fallen to #41 (from #3).
  14. So, we have a top 40 which doesn't include last week's #3 or#4. Astonishing. (Also missing last week's #11, #13 and #17, unsurprisingly.) Have we ever had TWO top ten singles disappear from the top 40 at the same time before?
  15. That's wrong, unless you have a different print of the CD and cover to my copy. There's no mention of the word 'choir' anywhere. It's 'Military Wives with Gareth Malone'. And Paul Mealor's name is the lead name in the small print that you mention, and also on the spine, so it's debatable what the real listing should be.
  16. Yes, he did say that, didn't he? Rihanna & Calvin were only #7 in the chart broadcast yesterday. The gap to climb above Bruno Mars and Pitbull was about 22k, so I guess they've done it this week.
  17. Coldplay's album hasn't FALLEN to #3; it has climbed one place to #3.
  18. Katie Price? Seems a bit harsh.
  19. What has poor old Nayer done to offend you? :)
  20. The top ten singles have seriously pulled away from the rest, haven't they? There's a massive gap between Ed Sheeran at #10 and Christina Perri at #11: 773k vs. 643k. It also looks like half a million could be the cut-off point for the year end top 20, as 1D at #20 will have made the 500k this week. Neat.
  21. Some things I'm really enjoying about this countdown: 1) The fact that it's not Reggie presenting it. Frankly, anyone else would be better, but I do like Tom Deacon, so this is a massive improvement. 2) The fact that it's actually on NYE (even though it's not the full year's sales). 3) Gezza76's rundown on here. Thank you, especially as the Radio 1 website isn't doing an ongoing update. (Unless they are and I haven't spotted it?)
  22. Military Wives were #144 the week before, but I'm amazed that you can sell nearly 2,000 copies and only be #144!
  23. That list is quite astonishing. I remember in 'the olden days' when I used to write down the end-of-year chart and put the chart peak next to the songs. It's not so long ago that almost the entire Top 40 was made up of number ones, with maybe a couple of #2s and very occasionally a number 3. This chart today shows how big sales can be achieved over a longer period of time with downloads, and how reaching #1 doesn't necessarily mean having a hit with longevity.
  24. Not brother, but half-brother. They have different mothers. Not son-in-law, but he could have been a stepson if Berry Gordy Jr. and Diana Ross had married. A son-in-law would be a man who married a child of Diana Ross. You seem a bit confused!

In which hmv is it £12? I've seen it in hmv's Birmingham shops this week at £9.99, which is £1 more than they're selling it at hmv.com.
