When I made that last comment in the early hours of Thursday, I wasn't entirely serious, but on the evidence of the two hmvs in Birmingham yesterday (Friday), it might actually be happening! The displays of Military Wives singles from earlier this week were gone, with just a small pile left on the desk in one shop. I'm wondering if they weren't able to press enough copies to keep up with demand? Does anyone know if the Military Wives have recorded a performance in the TOTP studio which will be edited into Sunday's programme? Or will we get the Albert Hall performance?

As if the Military Wives' sales weren't stratospheric enough already, don't forget they're performing the song on Graham Norton's TV show on Friday night. Remember what it did for Coldplay! On top of that, the whole three-part series about the choir gets another airing tonight (Thu), edited together as one 90 minute programme. I wouldn't be surprised if some hmv stores run out of the single on Saturday!
  3. Blimey, there have been some turnarounds, haven't there?! Our first week leader is down to 22nd, and 8 of the top ten have climbed consistently in weeks 2 AND 3. I'm happy to be one of them and scrape into the top ten. You're missing today's position (17 again) for Florence, by the way.

I'm sure I read that it was 59p if bought from a Pogues compilation album, but not from the Christmas compilations.
  5. Wahey! I was 20th last week and 7th this week? That's quite a change in fortunes. I think that nine place LEAP (I'm going to call it a leap) from 20th to 11th makes me the biggest climber, does it not? Well chuffed. Cheers. More importantly, I have overtaken Tom. ;-)
  6. I'm really pleased that Olly's made #1 in his third week, especially with the album out. It's a great song. Funny to see him deposing the show on which he's working! That Lloyd song really surprised me as well; it sounds pretty damn good.
  7. It would have been incredibly mean of Manilow as well, because I think George Michael also gave the 1984 profits from Last Christmas to the Band Aid Trust, so the charity had the proceeds from two million-selling singles, both with George's voice on.
  8. Thanks. Why was it deleted for a while?
  9. What deletion is that? Flo Rida is still #10 on iTunes right now.
  10. It's a good point actually. Both Slade and Wizzard had already had two #1 singles each in 1973 before Christmas came around, so they were both on the crest of a wave. As a 7-year old at the time, I can tell you one thing which may have been a factor; Roy Wood (of Wizzard) frightened the life out of me! There was something really creepy about his massive hair, massive beard and big glasses, which meant you couldn't see any of his face. He was like Father Christmas after an explosion in a paint factory. Slade seemed much more fun...
  11. I prefer her jelly. But she doesn't think I'm ready for it. :w00t:
  12. Jonjo and Tom have officially lost it.
  13. Agreed. It's brilliant, isn't it? I'm determined to play that track to my friends on Christmas Day.
  14. Oh, you've spoilt it now. 38 years of listening pleasure, ruined. ;)
  15. Pipes of Peace or We All Stand Together? (Or the other one?)
  16. I've just realised that this is wrong. It was #39 in the Wed update. I'm looking at the printout.
  17. Really?? Crikey, I feel like I'm having 'false memory syndrome' from my childhood!
  18. Tom's a big fan of Cliff Richard....
  19. Reggie didn't even play the "It's CHRIIIIIIIIIIISTMAAAAAAAAAS" intro of the Slade song. Pah. (Yes, I am listening. I lied.)
  20. I think the advert probably has unpleasant associations with the song. It's not nice seeing that boy present his missing Grandma's head in a box to his parents on Christmas morning. Oh, sorry, have I spoilt the lovely imagery for you?
  21. Hurrah for that. Bostin'! (As Roy Wood would probably say.)
  22. Wow! Didn't expect to get to this so soon. It's dropped TEN places from the Wednesday update, so the march of the 'traditional' Christmas songs must be pretty impressive. Brace yourselves!
  23. ...which the iTunes chart wrongly thinks is spelt 'In Dulci...' for some reason. (It's the Now... Xmas version.) It was #134 on iTunes on Thursday, but it has barely moved. Currently #128.
  24. Of course, what I'm looking forward to most is hearing Reggie Wrong read out the full artist credit for 'I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday'. For the benefit of our younger audience, it's by: Wizzard, featuring vocal backing by The Suedettes, plus the Stockland Green Bilateral School First Year Choir, with additional noises by Miss Snob & Class 3C Here in Birmingham, we've taken a peculiar pride in that line-up for the last 38 years. And before you ask, the school no longer exists under that name. It won't happen of course, because; (a) It's not listed like that on iTunes (b) Reggie isn't remotely interested in any aspect of the charts, except having his pretend showbiz friends in the studio © I won't be listening
  25. You're probably right, but as Saturday shoppers seem to be having quite an effect, plus the Coldplay effect from Friday night, it's still interesting.
