Unluckiest #2's?
Spice Girls - Stop Geri Halliwell - Look At Me (#2 in the UK charts, with 142,153 copies sold in its first week, just 700 copies behind Boyzone at #1). Victoria Beckham - Out Of Your Mind (The single was tipped to be #1 after a military promotional campaign and a series of record signings. Although the single was midweek #1 until Saturday, Spiller's "Groovejet" (midweek #2) outsold "Out Of Your Mind" by 20,000 copies by Sunday. "Out Of Your Mind" remains the solo-Spice single with biggest sales in its first week, selling 180,584 copies.) Emma Bunton - What I Am (Emma faced strong competition from her former bandmate Geri and her third single, "Lift Me Up". Both sides denied that the clash was deliberate, and they both wished each other well in the battle. However, they were both aiming for the top spot, and Geri was determined to get it, involving herself in a publicity stunt with Chris Evans. On the first day of sales, Geri was ahead by just 200 copies, but managed to achieve the #1 by the end of the week, outselling Emma by 33,000 copies. "What I Am" sold 106,000 copies to get to #2 in its first week and around).

Most #1 Singles by British Female Solo Artist?
"Look At Me" was Geri's first ever solo single, and it was hyped to the limit. When released on 10th May 1999, the single went straight to #2 in the UK charts, with 142,153 copies sold in its first week, just 700 copies behind Boyzone at #1. Geri had only released one CD single, whereas Boyzone had released two - more transactions were actually made with her single than Boyzone's, but their fans bought both copies of their single to elevate them to #1.
