I think a lot of the trouble lies in people losing their job(or never having had one) and thinking they can just pick up a tool bag and become a painter,plumber,carpenter etc. etc. My husband's a carpenter and joiner and has been in the trade all his working life(48 years), having done a 4 year apprenticeship 'on the job'. He's seen some right horrors in his time, most especially from kitchen firms who tell customers this is what you'll get but have not the slightest idea of what it entails to fit a kitchen. My husband has the knowledge to overcome difficulties but these amateurs/cowboys, whatever, haven't the slightest idea and leave peoeple's lives in tatters and their pockets empty. Unfortuately some people go for the cheapest quote but don't always get the best work.
